  • ‘The Flight Attendant’ Star Colin Woodell Reportedly Joins ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

‘The Flight Attendant’ Star Colin Woodell Reportedly Joins ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Things are starting to heat up ahead of the holidays for Daredevil: Born Again. Following the news that Michael Gandolfini’s role in the upcoming streaming series was confirmed, insider Daniel RPK has shared word that Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant, The Purge) has joined the series as a yet unidentified villain.

Woodell’s character looks to be set for just a portion of the 18-episode series but is also set to play a fairly significant role. Described as “intense and inscrutable”, it’s possible that Woodell could be portraying Muse, a serial killer who uses his victims’ blood and body parts to create art. The character was first introduced in Charles Soule’s run on Daredevil, which is believed to be one source of inspiration for Daredevil: Born Again.

Muse would make for a fascinating villain in Born Again should they do a little maneuvering with the origins of his powers. In the comics, Muse is a bit of a sensory black hole and thus becomes incredibly hard for Daredevil to pinpoint early on. Should Marvel Studios be so inclined, they could potentially tie the origin of Muse’s powers to Daredevil’s. Star Charlie Cox has teased the potential for Born Again to retell the origin story of the hero and tying Muse’s origin to it might be one reason to do so.

Daredevil: Born Again is tentatively set to stream on Disney Plus in 2024.

  • Star Wars Reveals Hidden Easter Eggs in ‘Andor’

Star Wars Reveals Hidden Easter Eggs in ‘Andor’

Luthen Rael’s Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest was a key location in the first season of Andor, serving as a front for Rael’s work with the Rebellion. Though its true purpose was to serve as a meeting place for fellow Rebels like Mon Mothma, Rael was all about keeping up appearances and had some incredible and rare pieces in his gallery. During the season, fans believed they peeped quite a few interesting artifacts in Rael’s collection and now the official Star Wars Twitter account has unveiled some of the goodies stashed away in the store!

    Lord Starkiller’s Helmet

One of two pieces in Rael’s shop that aren’t from a canon project, this appears to be similar to the helmet worn by Sith assassin Galen Marek, the secret apprentice of Darth Vader! Marek wore the helmet as the Sith known as Lord Starkiller in the video game The Force Unleashed.

    Gungan Shield

A Gungan energy shield as seen in The Phantom Menace! Given Rael’s shop is on Coruscant, maybe this one belonged to Senator and Sith Lord Jar Jar Binks!

    Beskar Armor

This beauty might get Rael in some trouble someday unless he bought it and had proof of purchase. Mandalorians aren’t big on being separated from their Beskar armor; hopefully nobody comes looking for it and makes a mess of the shop!

    Padme’s Headpiece

Whether or not the elaborate headpiece actually once belonged to Padme Amidala isn’t revealed, but given its similarity to the ornate pieces she wore and the fact that Rael has it in his collection, it’s a fair conclusion. Afterall, Rael isn’t in the business of having the used headgear of some normie cluttering up his gallery.

    Jedi Temple Guard Mask

The unmistakable and ornate facemask of a guard of the Jedi Temple rests among Rael’s collection. Given that Andor takes place about 15 years after Order 66 was issued and the Jedi Temple was raided, the mask would probably be a rare piece!

    Holocrons

Holocrons first appeared in The Clone Wars animated series and have since become a staple in canon literature such as novels and comic books. Used to store knowledge and accessible only by Force users, both the Jedi and Sith were fond of holocrons. Rael must be a bit of a completist because he has one of each.

    Sankara Stones

The central MacGuffin of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, the stones were gifted to Sankara from Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and one of three principal deities of the religion. Used to battle evil, the five stones had some pretty interesting powers and two of them were left in the mine that was a central location to the plot of the film…it’s all connected! Nope, it’s just an Easter egg.

Head over to Star Wars official site for more Easter eggs from the shop!

  • CCXP: Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Gets an Official Release Date

CCXP: Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Gets an Official Release Date

As part of Disney’s presentation at Brazil’s CCXP, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau revealed that Season 3 of The Mandalorian will debut on Disney Plus on March 1st!

As the teaser trailer for the third season revealed, Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin will have to deal with the consequences of his choices and finds himself stripped of his identity as a Mandalorian.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to spend quite a bit of time on Mandalore and continue to follow up on storylines begun told during the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels. At CCXP, Favreau claimed the upcoming season will be the biggest yet.

We want to keep the surprises in, so that each week is an unexpected discovery […] But I will say that the scope is bigger than ever: space battles, and more Mandalorians

  • ‘Ironheart’ Star Teases Riri Williams Post-‘Wakanda Forever’ Journey

‘Ironheart’ Star Teases Riri Williams Post-‘Wakanda Forever’ Journey

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has introduced the world to Dominique Thorne‘s Riri Williams. A young, talented engineer that develops her own version of the iconic Iron Man armor and becomes the hero known as Ironheart. Not only did she have a major part in the latest Black Panther movie, but she’ll also get her own Disney+ series.

In a new interview with Collider, Thorne shares what will make the character stand out from her introduction, we’ll actually get to meet her in her own element. It’s a great sentiment as we meet her while being threatened by Talocan’s god-like leader and dragged along by Wakandans, or as she points it out as “when life is leading her.”

And also we’re getting to see her in her element, which is quite literally the opposite of what we saw of her in Wakanda Forever. We’ll get more time to see what the other colors are and to see how she leads her life, rather than how she is when life is leading her.

    Dominique Thorne

The series will also see her continue her work on her new armor. Even while she built a comic-accureate design in Wakanda Forever, she couldn’t just run around with a Vibranium-infused suit of armor. So, she’ll be back to where she started and forced to build upon to create her dream project. Now, she just has more experience and with an unlikely threat on the horizon, she’ll have to figure out something fast.

  • ‘Dune’ Prequel Series Adds Mark Strong, Chris Mason, and Jade Anouka

‘Dune’ Prequel Series Adds Mark Strong, Chris Mason, and Jade Anouka

Director Denis Villeneuve has been quite busy on the sequel to last year’s Dune. Yet, they have many more plans for this franchise as the upcoming HBO Max series has been busy working on the prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood. It’s based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson which takes place 10,000 years before the original novels and film. Now, the story has seemingly found its next batch of actors.

Acting legend Mark Strong is joining the project as Emperor Javicco Corrino, who is “a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.” Jade Anouka has also joined the project as Sister Theodosia, who “harbors a dangerous secret about her past.” while Chris Mason will take on the role of Keiran Atreides, “a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.”

The serise already has an impressive cast that consists of Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Aoife Hinds, Chloe Lea, and many more. Diane Ademu-John is working on the project as an executive producer, but passed on the showrunner duties to Alison Schapker. With the introduction of a member of the Atreides family, it’ll be interesting if they still want to set up seeds that connect the project to the original films even if 10,000 years set it apart.

  • ‘The Boys’ Casts Rosemarie DeWitt as Hughie’s Mom, Simon Pegg to Return

‘The Boys’ Casts Rosemarie DeWitt as Hughie’s Mom, Simon Pegg to Return

The Boys remains one of Amazon’s biggest shows and remains as the big counter offering for those that have reached a certain limit with current superhero fare. While it revels in the mockery of DC and Marvel’s ongoing history alongside an unsubtle political mockery, the show also has a lot of heart with its many characters trying to just survive in a confusing world. Back in August, many were excited when the show announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to join the cast in an unknown role for Season 4. That wasn’t all, as we now have even more casting news.

The biggest reveal is that Rosemarie DeWitt will be playing the mother of Jack Quaid‘s Hughie. Simon Pegg is also set to return to reprise the role of his dad, which was a fun in-joke given that Hughie in the original The Boys comics looked quite a bit like the famous Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz actor. They’ve also added Elliot Knight and Rob Benedict in unknown roles, but there’s always a good chance they are some of the new superheroes joining the fray of Eric Kripke‘s superhero satire.

It’ll be exciting to see what the new season has to offer, especially after everything that unraveled with Soldier Boy. Jensen Ackles was a fan-favorite last season and the series will definitely continue on that with this season. DeWiitt‘s addition as Hughie’s mother opens some interesting storytelling potential and perhaps we get to spend more time with the character.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Reportedly Adds Michael Gandolfini

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Reportedly Adds Michael Gandolfini

Daredevil: Born Again is preparing to head into production in February and amid rumors of street-level heroes such as White Tiger appearing in the show, comes a very interesting addition to the cast. According to insider Daniel RPK, Michael Gandolfini has landed a role in the streaming series.

The 23-year-old Gandolfini made a name for himself by playing a young Tony Soprano, a role previously held by his later father, James, in HBO’s The Many Saints of Newark. Gandolfini doesn’t have many credits to his name as his acting career only began in earnest following his father’s death in 2013. He recently had a role in the Jodie Turner-Smith and John Cena film The Independent and will next be seen in the Joaquin Phoenix film, Disappointment Blvd.

Gandolfini’s role in Daredevil: Born Again has not been revealed but we can add that his character is described as an ambitious and earnest risk-taker with a very Staten Island-esque persona. Given that description, it’s possible Gandolfini is playing an up-and-coming mafioso, given the island’s ongoing reputation as a home for organized crime. Should that be the case, one intriguing possibility for the role could be Richard Fisk, the son of Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. Richard has often been a thorn in his father’s side and has often tried to take his place atop organized crime.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Downward Facing Twerk Will Leave You Saying Namaste, Bitches

EXCLUSIVE: Downward Facing Twerk Will Leave You Saying Namaste, Bitches

Ready for some well-being and re-centering? Try yoga! Want a snarky, scathing criticism of the commercialization of yoga and its devolution into a mainstream social media contest for followers? Watch season 2 of Namaste, Bitches, a comedic web series from Creator and Director, Summer Chastant.

Chastant stars in the series as yoga instructor Sabine, who’s been teaching at What Up Dog Yoga Studio for six years and is eager to for a promotion to Senior Teacher. Tania Verafield reprises her role as Gina, now an unemployed yoga instructor crashing on Sabine’s couch, who’s beginning to spiral down a rabbit hole of wild conspiracy theories. When yoga studio owner Beth (Christina Piazza) asks Sabine to mentor her young niece and help her become a better instructor, Sabine accepts the role despite misgivings with Holly (Rebekah Kennedy), who will clearly stop at nothing to gain her own following of yoga enthusiasts.

Rebekah Kennedy as Holly and Summer Chastant as Sabine in Namaste, Bitches.

Sabine confronts Gina about her conspiracy theories and finally gets news about the Senior Teacher position she’s been longing for. But she’s in for a wicked surprise! Murphy’s Multiverse has an exclusive look at episode 4, “Downward Facing Twerk” here first.

Chastant launched season one of Namaste, Bitches in 2015, showcasing the underbelly of the yoga scene in Los Angeles. The story is close to home for Chastant, who taught yoga for over a decade in New York, but was forced to adapt her yoga practice after moving to California to pursue her acting and directing career. In a phone discussion earlier this month, Chastant said she had a more alignment-focused practice valued by a population who moved more. New Yorkers walk, take the stairs, walk to the subway, and valued that slower, aligning-focused practice. Vehicle-bound Californians, however, were looking for a workout. She found yoga practices attached to crystal meditation rooms and sound baths—with a much bigger focus on “energy” healing. When I asked her what she thought about those practices, Chastant laughed and explained “I appreciate people who appreciate them.”

Chastant, a certified yoga teacher, was concerned with the yoga community’s embrace of certain conspiracy theories during the pandemic—particularly with QAnon and its anti-vaccination movements which seemed to resonate among a subset of yoga’s cult-like followers looking for nontraditional healing. She confronts those trends and cancel culture in season two of the series. Guru Seasonal (Katarina Morhacova) serves as a sort of stand-in for the god-like yogis who are no longer questioned by their followers but blindly followed to dire ends. When someone dares to speak out? They’re canceled, never to be mentioned again amongst yoga practitioners. This worried Chastant, who urges people to be wary of any situations where people stop asking questions of their leaders. “Do your research!” she says playfully, parroting the QAnon catchphrase.

The yoga instructors of What Up Dog embrace Guru Seasonal’s conspiracies as cult-like followers.

With season two, Chastant took on directing and producing duties in addition to starring in the series. She says it was definitely more work, but directing allowed her to execute the vision she had for the show while writing it. She hopes the series can continue to evolve, perhaps even into a feature-length film. Chastant’s recent project, Plug, placed in the Austin Film Festival. Plug tells the story of a teenage girl who, after the death of Kurt Cobain, must confront her own tragic past in order to fulfill her dream of being the lead singer in a band.

You can catch up on Namaste, Bitches on YouTube now. All six episodes of season one are available now, as well as episodes 1-3 of season 2. Episodes 4-6 of season 2 will be available on December 2.

  • What to Expect TODAY from Disney’s CCXP ’22 Panel

What to Expect TODAY from Disney’s CCXP ’22 Panel

This afternoon at 2:30 PM ET, Disney will begin a 3-hour and 20-minute long panel at CCXP ’22 in Brazil where it is expected to show off a significant amount of its 2023 slate from across its major brands. 20th Century Studios, Disney, Disney Animation, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios and Pixar are all expected to have a presence during the panel. Here’s an idea of what to expect.

    20th Century Studios

The only question here is if Fox will show off anything other than Avatar: The Way of Water. The film is just 2 weeks away from release and press screenings begin early next week. Star Zoë Saldaña and producer Jon Landau are scheduled to be at the event and are likely to show off some footage from the film.

    Disney

    Image from Collider.com

Thanks to Collider, we know that Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid will be front and center during their portion of the studio’s portion of the panel. The film, headed to theaters on May 26, 2023, stars Halle Bailey as Ariel and looked to be a visual spectacle when a teaser trailer of it was shown at D23. Given the May release, it’s possible a new trailer might be unveiled at CCXP.

    Disney Animation

As of publication, not much about the animation panel has trickled out. It’s possible, however, that the animation studio might show off the upcoming Disney Plus film, Iwájú, and its next theatrical release, Wish.

    Lucasfilm

It looks like Lucasfilm will be showing off at least 3 projects from its slate: Willow, which just launched this week on Disney Plus, The Mandalorian Season 3 and Indiana Jones 5. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are set to join the panel virtually and discuss Mando S3, which is reportedly streaming in February. A trailer for the third season was unveiled about 2 months ago, so it’s possible a new trailer, complete with an expected release date, might emerge from CCXP. As exciting as that will be, expect Indy 5 to take up a big chunk of Lucasfilm’s time. A trailer for the new film, complete with the title, has been cut and is waiting to roll out. Is today the day?

    Marvel Studios

Kevin Feige does not do panels unless he can bring something special to the mix. He’ll be on stage in Brazil and will be joined by Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Jonathan Majors, whose Kang the Conqueror, a major piece of the Multiverse Saga plans, will be introduced in the film. The film comes out in just over two months on February 17, 2023, and a new trailer for it was just screened at an event in Singapore. Feige is bringing it with him and the only question is whether or not it’ll leave the screens at CCXP or be exclusive to the event. It’s very likely it’ll be playing in front of Avatar: The Way of Water, so even if it doesn’t get into the wild today, we’ll all see it soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also get some attention at the panel, especially with Saldaña already in Brazil. Like Quantumania, new footage of it was shown in Singapore, so a trailer or some footage will be shown. The public has yet to see anything from the film, which is now just 6 months away from its May 5, 2023 release. While Marvel’s marketing window has been shorter recently, the same logic from above applies: they probably want this trailer in theaters with Avatar: The Way of Water.

Loki Season 2 was also part of the panel in Singpore and the footage shown there featured Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. Fortunately, Majors is already there, so expect him to give an update on Loki and perhaps introduce a new trailer. The series comes out after Quantumania, sometime in the Summer of 2023, so its unlikely an exact release date will be given.

Marvel Studios is also likely to at least talk about Secret Invasion and The Marvels, both of which are set for 2023 releases. At this point, it doesn’t seem likely that any major new announcements should be expected but rather just a showcase of 2023’s projects.

    Pixar

Pixar will absolutely be showing off Elemental, the Peter Sohn-helmed film which is slated for a June 16, 2023 release. Here’s the official synopsis from Disney.com:

Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental” is an all-new, original feature film set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.

Of course, there could always be surprises rolled out during such a long panel and Murphy’s Multiverse will be doing out best to share everything with you as it happens!

  • James Cameron Can’t Imagine an ‘Avatar’ Streaming Series for Another 10 Years

James Cameron Can’t Imagine an ‘Avatar’ Streaming Series for Another 10 Years

If you’ve ever wondered just how ambitious the plans are of James Cameron, he recently revealed that he could make up to six sequels of the 2009 box office breakout. Yet, that isn’t all as we’re also getting a graphic novel by Sherri L. Smith that’ll be published by Dark Horse Comics. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, they sat down with James Cameron to talk about his ambitious plans and the discussion of a potential streaming series. In it, he reveals that he’s open to the idea of exploring Pandora in a series, but it’ll take at least ten years to get to that point.

The problem with these CG characters is that they’re so cost- and labor-intensive that it really doesn’t work for TV. Now, come back in 10 years, with a lot of machine deep learning. Insert it into our pipeline, which we hope to do, over time. We might be able to get to a TV schedule, but it doesn’t interest me right now

    James Cameron

It makes sense that it’ll take quite a bit of time for these types of CG characters in a fully digital world to be able to work in a live-action series. Eeven as impressive as She-Hulk was with their work, the budget for a series of the scale of an entire species being digitally rendered would push any show beyond its budget. Even Avatar: The Way of Water reportedly has a budget upwards of $400M. So, it’ll already take quite a bit to make this film get its money back and that’s already a big undertaking for a more lucrative business model that isn’t dependent on subscriber growth.

Of course, there’s always alternatives that could be taken. Avatar as an animated series would offer a way for him to tell more stories without the restraints of fully rendered CG in live-action. Though, it also depends on if James Cameron is a fan of his project being showcased in that format. No matter what direction an Avatar series might go, it’ll very likely make its home on Disney+ given these films are now under Disney’s watchful eye since the 20th Century Fox purchase. For now, we’ll have to wait another decade before we might truly find out.
