Misha Green Offers Updates on ‘Black Canary’ and Teases Comic Accurate Costume

Over a year ago, Birds of Prey and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn hit theaters worldwide. The film brought back Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn alongside some new additions to the DCEU. The most popular introduction was Jurnee Smollet as Black Canary, who fans immediately championed to get a spinoff. It took quite some time, but it finally got announced that she’ll reprise the role of Dinah Lance for a solo project. Lovecraft Country‘s Misha Green set to write the film as an HBO Max exclusive.

Writer Misha Green recently took to Twitter for an impromptu Q&A and fans immediately jumped at the chance to get a bit more details on the upcoming Black Canary film. She naturally doesn’t give away any details but did offer some small glimpses behind the scenes. What may have caught many fans’ eyes is her teasing the classic costume from the comics. So, it adds some hope that she’ll wear the iconic biker jacket and fishnets.

She is currently actively researching for the project but doesn’t give away what might become the series’ main influence, but there was a hint at Gail Simone‘s work. The writer remains tight-lipped on what the series might dive into, but she did confirm that she’s going solo on this project in one of her tweets.

We got a tease that Dinah’s mother had a similar ability in the 2020 film, which could become an important part of the upcoming HBO Max film. While it is still probably some time until it releases, it’s exciting to see such passion behind the project. Smollet has also been very vocal about her love for the character and project. So, here’s hoping we’ll get to see their creative vision soon.

‘Peacemaker’ Will Feature Dance Number Opening Credits

The Suicide Squad was quite the hit with fans and critics alike, with many praising Gunns writing and character work. With so many memorable moments and characters, fans are eager to get more of the newest characters within the DCEU. Well, many fans will get their wish, just not as they expect. Peacemaker is the first spinoff series for the DCEU, centering around John Cenas Christopher Smith, a character whose quest for peace will continue on in an eight-episode-long first season.

Virtually nothing is known about the first season of Peacemaker, aside from that he’s gotta save the world, alongside John Economos and Emilia Harcourt. The cast and crew recently made an appearance at the Television Critics Association. The panel showcased some of the series first footage along with the opening credits, which definitely aren’t what many expected them to be. Each episode of Peacemaker will open with a Dance Number for the opening sequence, a sequence that act actor Robert Patrick reportedly had the most fun with.

While this seems a bit unorthodox for the genre, it’s certainly something out of the left field for Gunn to pull. This will definitely set the tone for what how you can expect the season to go, especially with such an eccentric patriot like Peacemaker, and let’s hope he works better with this team than the last one.

All eight episodes of Peacemaker were written by James Gunn, who directed five of the episodes. Gunn will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside both John Cena and Peter Safran.

  • RUMOR: ‘Ms.Marvel’ Eying February Release

    RUMOR: ‘Ms.Marvel’ Eying February Release

Ms. Marvel is set to make her highly anticipated debut in the upcoming eponymous solo series. The series was initially planned to release at some point in 2021 but with Hawkeye occupying the rest of the year, it looks as if Ms.Marvel could be shifting into an early 2022 release date.

It seems Ms.Marvel has an intended window of release in the new year, as a new rumor from VFX artist Amit Chaudhari is saying the series is set to release in February. Obviously, this has yet to be confirmed by any official source but with Disney+ day coming up in November, we can most likely expect some sort of announcement. This news would line up well with what we previously heard about the series moving to 2022.

A February release may be the most likely scenario when you take into mind that Hawkeye wraps up its six-episode run around the end of the year. A February release would give enough time for Hawkeye to wrap up its run and not feel overshadowed by Ms. Marvel’s impending release and the press coverage that will surround the series in the coming days of its debut.

  • Andy Muschietti Teases an Unconventional ‘THE FLASH’ Suit

Andy Muschietti Teases an Unconventional ‘THE FLASH’ Suit

Batman is all the rage right now. Next year will see not one but three live-action Batmen on the big screen. The interesting part is that two of them will star in the same movie. Since production on The Flash began, director Andy Muschietti has been dropping emblem reveals for his film’s protagonist. Many fans are eager to see the return of Ben Affleck as Batman and assumed Batman Day would be the day, but to not avail. To catch us off-guard, Muschietti did indeed share a tease, just a day late.

In a new Instagram post, the director revealed another look at a costume for the upcoming film, but this time it’s sending some mixed signals. What we’ve got this time around is a Batsuit belonging to Keaton but seems to have been spray-painted red with a yellow lightning bolt over the bat. It seems this could be a look at one of Barry’s possible suits in the film. There are also some noticeable differences from previous teases.

In Justice League, it is revealed that Barry’s suit is made out of the same materials Nasa uses to protect its spaceships from burning up once they re-entered Earth’s atmosphere. To keep it from falling apart, it is held together with wiring. Barry used this suit to run around in as it’s the only material that can withstand his abilities. There’s a chance that his suit cannot withstand whatever leads him into the multiverse and is destroyed upon arrival. This old Batsuit acts as a replacement until he eventually gets his new suit revealed at last year’s Fandome, which we saw in some set photos. It’ll be interesting to see if we get a closer look at this year’s DC FanDome.

  • ‘STARGIRL’ Season 3 Start Date Revealed

‘STARGIRL’ Season 3 Start Date Revealed

The sophomore season of Stargirl made its move to the CW following DC Universe’s transition from streaming service to a strictly digital library. Stargirl was one of the few originals that was picked up by a channel with Titans, Doom Patrol, and Young Justice becoming HBO Max exclusives. Before the second season of Stargirl even dropped, it was renewed early on for a third season at the CW. Now we have word on when it’s scheduled to begin production

Star Joy Osmanski has confirmed via an Instagram story that Season 3 is set to begin filming on October 4th. Both Osmanski and Neil Hopkins, who play Tigress and Sportsmaster respectively, were previously confirmed to be returning to the show as series regulars following their brief appearance in season two.

It’ll be interesting to see what the overarching plan for the series is as the third season was green-lit so quickly. The team is still reeling with the arrival of Eclipso whose recently made his escape from the black diamond by Shiv. This season has continued to improve upon its first and with the return of both Tigress and Sportsmaster, things can only get more intense.

Stargirl season 2 is currently airing on the CW network every Tuesday. The third season has yet to set a tentative release date but could release as early as late 2021.

  • Connecting Imaginary Dots: Shuma-Gorath May Appear in ‘SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME’

Connecting Imaginary Dots: Shuma-Gorath May Appear in ‘SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME’

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next threat seems to be emerging from within the multiverse. The ending of WandaVision kicked off a new era that saw its expansion in Loki. While all eyes were on the newly introduced Kang, it seems the rumored foe of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might have an early appearance. In the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, eagle-eyed fans may have spotted the first glimpse of Shuma-Gorath.

In the trailer, Doctor Strange creates a spell to wipe everyone’s memory of Peter Parker being Spider-Man. As it usually does, something goes wrong and it unleashes something from the multiverse. Eagle-eyed Twitter user @MSpector_JM noticed that in the rift you can spot a rather strange and familiar eyeball with what seems like tentacles. The design is very reminiscent of Shuma-Gorath and continues to tease his presence.

    https://twitter.com/mspector_jm/status/1438175666457890816?s=21

Rumors point to the multiversal being as the main threat in the upcoming sequel and it is after America Chavez’s abilities, who is confirmed to make her live-action debut in Multiverse of Madness. As such, Strange’s actions in No Way Home may break a hole in the newly established multiverse, which gives Shuma the power to finally find the source of power he requires to dominate every reality.

Yet, this brief tease may not be his actual debut within the MCU. Giant green tentacles can briefly be seen in the premiere episode of What If…?, as they try to break through a portal opened by Red Skull before being pushed back in by Captain Carter. He even has a showdown with a Variant of Doctor Strange in a later episode, where he fuses with him. As the show deals with the multiverse and the fact that tentacles are the only connective tissue besides the Watcher, it may be Shuma-Gorath.

Shuma Gorath is Reportedly After America Chavez in 'Doctor Strange' Sequel - MCUExchange

Marvel Studios is building up to his full debut in next year’s Doctor Strange sequel. The various teases and this small detail in the Spider-Man trailer could hint at a post-credit sequence involving Strange facing the creature. While the trailer implies it was Peter’s nerves unleashing the multiversal villains, there’s a chance that this small glimpse builds up to the first confrontation as we learn the true reason why the multiverse broke in the first place.

  • First Look at ‘PEACEMAKER’s New Team

First Look at ‘PEACEMAKER’s New Team

Many fans are ecstatic to see John Cena’s return to the DCEU in Peacemaker, a series that’ll continue the man on a quest for peace following the events of The Suicide Squad. Many thought Peacemaker’s fate was sealed upon a fatal gunshot wound from Bloodsport to the throat alongside the debris of Jotunheim. It seemingly ended any possibility of his return. The end credits of the film tell a different story, with Christopher Smith pulled from the rubble and now tasked with saving the world from who knows what.

The series is set to debut in January 2022 exclusively on HBO Max, and while no exact date has been set for its debut, we’re going to be getting our first real good look at the series just next month at DC Fandome. To tide us over until then, Entertainment Weekly has released a new still featuring Peacemaker alongside returning stars Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland alongside some new faces.

For those who may have missed the post credit scene for The Suicide Squad. We learn that Amanda Waller has reassigned John Economos and Emilia Harcourt to Peacemaker as punishment for knocking her out and helping Task Force X kill Starro, which led to the saving of Corto Maltese. Joining the team is Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. It’ll be interesting to see how the events in Corto Maltese and the murder of Colonel Rick Flag may affect Smith’s second lease on life.

  • Gavin O’Connor Opens Up on His Scrapped ‘SUICIDE SQUAD’ Sequel

Gavin O’Connor Opens Up on His Scrapped ‘SUICIDE SQUAD’ Sequel

The first Suicide Squad film wasn’t exactly a fan-favorite, but it was able to bring a ton of money at the box office with $700M+ in total. With money like that, how could you not greenlight a sequel and try to duplicate that success?. While we did eventually get a sequel with James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, there was a very different sequel in development early on.

Before Gunn was brought onto the project, director Gavin O’Connor was originally going to be picking up the reigns from David Ayer, as he moved onto a Gotham City Sirens film, which has still yet to make any movement. After a long silence, the director recently went onto the Playlist podcast where he opened up about his sequel that never was.

What happened there was I wrote a deal to write a script, and they knew what I was writing. At that level, with those kinds of movies, with that budget, no one’s just going off and writing something without walking them through what the movie’s gonna be, and everyone was cool with it.

    Gavin O’Connor

O’Connor also went into how the project ended up scrapped and how a managerial shake-up affected his film. He even goes on to highlight the direction he was taking with his project.

What happened was during the latter part of writing the script there was a whole regime change at DC, and when that happened, they wanted it to be a comedy. And I’m like, ‘i’m not writing a comedy.‘ I mean, It [was] fun, but it’s not a yuk-fest. And the new regime wanted a different movie than I was writing.

    Gavin O’Connor

While it would’ve been neat to see what he had in store for viewers, audiences and critics alike seemed pretty satisfied with Gunn‘s vision. It seems that the comedic direction did help win some viewers over. It’ll be interesting to see if a third installment finds its way into the franchise, or DC moves on to exploring the stories from the individual members, as Peacemaker gets his own HBO Max series.

  • Connecting Imaginary Dots: Mohan Kapur Reprising Role as A Yusuf Khan in ‘The Marvels’

Connecting Imaginary Dots: Mohan Kapur Reprising Role as A Yusuf Khan in ‘The Marvels’

The upcoming sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel will bring together the Marvel family. Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani will reprise their roles as Monica Rambeau and Kamala Kahn, respectively, joining Brie Larson Unlike Parris, Vellani has yet to make her live-action debut and will do so in Ms. Marvel, an upcoming Disney+ original series that will explore the origins of Kamala Khan as she becomes the titular hero. However, it seems Kamala may not be the only returning character from the Disney+ series.

A recent listing on IMDB may hint that actor Mohan Kapur will return as Yusuf Khan, Kamala’s father. Kapur’s stunt double, Sonny Louis, is currently listed as his stunt double on the upcoming film. While IMDB listings are never confirmation, Kapur’s return seems likely as Kamala Khan takes on a larger role.

Although Sonny Louis is not currently listed as a stunt double for Mohan Kapur on Ms. Marvel, he appears to be taking on the stunt double role for The Marvels. Kapur’s return as Yusuf Khan could suggest some danger may be coming for Kamala’s family – potentially explaining what ends up bringing Captain Marvel and Kamala Khan together.

Ms. Marvel currently has no set release date but should debut sometime early next year on Disney+. The Marvels will hit theaters on November 11th, 2022. The film was written by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell and will be directed by Nia DaCosta, picking up the reigns from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

  • Jason Momoa Reveals New Stealth Suit for ‘AQUAMAN’ Sequel

Jason Momoa Reveals New Stealth Suit for ‘AQUAMAN’ Sequel

The first Aquaman film was quite the hit, bringing in over a billion dollars at the box offices with praise from critics and fans alike. It wasn’t long before a sequel was announced and that Jason Momoa and James Wan would be back. Now, with filming underway on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Momoa and Wan took to Instagram to reveal Arthur Curry’s brand new suit for the upcoming sequel.

In a new post on Instagram, Momoa showcases the armor of Atlan that appeared in the first film, but alongside that was a new look at the stealth suit. The new suit is quite the vast departure from the other with a dark blue look with silver armor plating.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CTcibM2sBii/

In Wan’s post to Instagram revealing the stealth suit, he went into further details explaining how the suit works and what inspired them to make the suit. The suit is Atlantean tech is based on a Cephalopod’s ability to camouflage with its surrounding area. Wan stated that he and writer David Leslie Johnson were inspired by the Aquaman mini-series from the 80’s, written by Neal Pozner and Craig Hamilton.

Plot details for the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom remain under wraps but it seems likely that Arthur would be using a suit such as this to sneak around in said kingdom, without the bright orange and green giving him away like a construction worker on a busy road. The reveal of this suit may also mean we may see some filming take place outside and get us a better look at what’s going on in the film.
