  • ‘Rosaline:’ Sean Teale on Dario’s Relationship with Rosaline

‘Rosaline:’ Sean Teale on Dario’s Relationship with Rosaline

This Friday, Hulu is set to debut a new take on the Romeo and Juliet tale with Rosaline. Focusing on Juliet’s cousin – and Romeo’s ex – Rosaline tells the story of Rosaline Capulet and her rocky relationship with Romeo Montague. While she knows the two could never truly be together due to their warring families, Rosaline can’t help but fall in love with Romeo. Unfortunately, though, she soon learns her love has since fallen for another – more specifically, her cousin, Juliet. While Rosaline goes on a journey to try and destroy the relationship between Romeo and Juliet, in hopes of winning him back, she finds what she originally wanted isn’t what she wants in the end. Instead, she learns the one she should be with has been under her nose the entire time. It’s a cute romance filled with plenty of chaotic moments, which proved to be enjoyable for some of the cast members.

Last week, Disney hosted a virtual press conference for the film, and actor Sean Teale was asked why he believes Rosaline and Dario were the superior couple in the film. The actor noted that, while the character of Rosaline is charming, leading lady Kaitlyn Dever helps to sell her charm. “Like, she’s incredibly charming, Kaitlyn and Rosaline.  And also, sort of, there’s so much to her, you would not want to do anything other than find out more,” he explained. “But I think Dario, the thing that drew me to Dario is that something that I didn’t have, which is that he just doesn’t mind what anyone thinks of him or how he appears.  He is a certain way. And I do not possess that trait at all.  I’m scared about everyone’s opinion.  But Dario sort of manages to be a lot more progressive than a man would be in that time.”

The differences between the two characters are great, but it’s these differences between them that help to pull them together. As Teale further explains, while Dario is a Renaissance man, he’s also incredibly progressive for his time. “And so of course he’s completely drawn to this, like, brilliant, funny, charismatic-driven, diligent, independent woman at a time where, you know, where that was not as easy to be or do,” he said. “So, it sort of becomes very obvious to him. They also wind each other up to no end. Which is super-fun.”

Viewers can watch the relationship between Rosaline and Dario grow when Rosaline debuts on Hulu this Friday, Oct. 14th.

  • Producer Dany Garcia on the Long Journey to ‘Black Adam’

Producer Dany Garcia on the Long Journey to ‘Black Adam’

In 2007, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was announced as Black Adam for Warner Bros. and DC Comics. At the time, it was expected that he would first pop up in Shazam! but the plan eventually changed with Johnson and his team opting instead to give the anti-hero a solo film first. Now, after what feels like forever, Black Adam is finally set to hit the big screen later this month.

While at the film’s premiere, producer Dany Garcia briefly talked about the film’s long journey to the big screen and Johnson’s commitment to the character. “A decade and a half ago, we knew that character was a character that Dwayne should play… it’s been pushing a boulder every day forward, but believing in the vision.”

Starring alongside Johnson in Black Adam are Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script by Adam SztykielRory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Black Adam is set to hit theaters on Oct. 21st. It is currently on track to earn between $70 million and $75 million.

  • ‘Black Adam:’ Aldis Hodge is Ready for Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl to Board the DCEU

‘Black Adam:’ Aldis Hodge is Ready for Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl to Board the DCEU

On Wednesday evening, Warner Bros. Discovery held the world premiere of its latest offering: Black Adam. The film has long been expected to usher in a new era for DC Comics on the big screen. And while currently tracking for an impressive opening, it remains to be seen when or if a sequel eventually happens. Still, one cast member is already dreaming of where this new take on the DC Extended Universe could go, and he’s hoping it includes Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl.

While walking the red carpet for Black Adam, Hawkman actor Aldis Hodge was asked which characters from the comics he’d like to see join the DCEU. Hodge, of course, noted he had two characters in particular on his mind. “Two people. I want to bring in Mr. Terrific – his backstory is amazing – and also Hawkgirl.”

It’s of note that Hawkgirl was originally meant to appear in Black Adam along with Stargirl. Which would’ve given the actor part of his wish. However, throughout the years, changes were made to the script and Hawkgirl was unfortunately cut. With DC’s slate currently up in the air, it’s unknown if Hawkgirl (or Mr. Terrific) will appear in any forthcoming project, but should Black Adam perform well, one has to think Hawkgirl’s big screen debut can’t be too far off.

Black Adam hits theaters on Oct. 21st, 2022.

  • 20-Year Old ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Pilot Animatic Released Online

20-Year Old ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Pilot Animatic Released Online

Seth Kearsley has recently opened up about the Kingdom Hearts animated series that never was. It has been 20 years since he worked on the project and it was something he held quite dearly, which is why he no longer wanted to keep it a secret from the world. In a surprising twist, however, instead of just talking about the project he went on to release the entire animatic for the world to see online, which you can check out here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Iyg6gQZFhc

It’s definitely a bold move, as he highlights that he doesn’t own the right to publish this. Disney holds onto the rights even with Square-Enix being the creator of this Disney-Final Fantasy mashup. Many have long wondered why we never got an adaptation of any kind, but it’s great to get a look at what could have been after all these years. Kingdom Hearts has lived on as a massive franchise spanning books, multiple consoles, and ongoing musical concerts but still no cinematic or TV adaptation.

While this move won’t lead to the series getting a renewal after all these years, there is still the potential for them to consider an adaptation. Disney+ may unshackle them to explore many different types of stories and such a massive IP would definitely be the perfect touch, no matter if they go an animated or even live-action route. Kingdom Hearts still remains as one of Square Enix’s popular entries and we’ll see if the upcoming fourth entry alongside this leak potentially reviving interest to explore a project based on it after all.

  • Russo Brothers’ Italian ‘Citadel’ Entry Adds Matilda De Angelis as its Lead

Russo Brothers’ Italian ‘Citadel’ Entry Adds Matilda De Angelis as its Lead

Russo Brothers have been quite busy with their various projects and it looks like they are already eyeing to kick off their Amazon Prime Video series, Citadel. Once again taking a step into the world of spies and thrillers, they have cast the rising Italian star, Matilda De Angelis, as its lead, who recently made her name with her work on Susanne Bier‘s The Undoing. The project has now started production and was announced by Amazon Studios at Rome’s MIA content market.

For those wondering, Citadel is part of a wider event series with a U.S.-based main series and various spinoffs. Currently, Prime Video plans to expand it into India and Mexico as well with Arnaldo Catinari spearheading this project based on head writer Alessandro Fabbri‘s scripts. ITV Studios’ Cattleya is also currently producing the series with Gina Gardini set as its showrunner and executive producer alongside Marco Chimenz, Giovanni Stabilini, and Riccardo Tozzi.

The series has already cast Bernhard Schütz, Lorenzo Cervasio, Thekla Reuten, Julia Piaton, Filippo Nigro, and Maurizio Lombardi in undisclosed roles. This is the first local production to start and the U.S.-based series has already added Stanley Tucci, Richard Madden, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. It’s unclear if they will all be under the same title of Citadel or potentially each get their own titles moving forward but the project is certainly ambitios.

  • Skybound Developing Video Games Based on Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’

Skybound Developing Video Games Based on Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’

Invincible has grown as a franchise in the last few years. Robert Kirkman‘s comic series about a young teenager uncovering his true heritage and joining the unlikely world of superheroes just recently became a hit animated Amazon series with a live-action film still in some form of development. While we’re still anxiously awaiting a second season and an update on the adaptation, it does seem like they have added one more to the project.

In a new report, Skybound Entertainment has unveiled that they plan to adapt the series as a game. As Invincible celebrates 20 years, it’s the perfect time to highlight how it is about to expand beyond what we already know. There’s no word on if they already have a developer attached, but it seems like they are definitely interested in bringing this franchise to the next step.

They have done similar projects in the past, such as their rapid expansion of The Walking Dead franchise throughout the years. The game has quite a set of characters o there are many directions they could take it. Ironically, the heroic Mark Grayson may have the name Invincible but he gets beat up repeatedly throughout the comic’s run. So, it seems unlikely they’ll go down a story route with boss fights you have to overcome, but as ComicBook.com’s Logan Moore points out, its vast cast of characters would be perfect for a fighting game. We’ll have to see which direction they take with this project.

  • Heather Langenkamp Wants a ‘Halloween’ Style Legacy Sequel for ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’

Heather Langenkamp Wants a ‘Halloween’ Style Legacy Sequel for ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’

Halloween and Scream have recently made quite a big splash in theaters with their grand return. Not only did they revive the franchise but also acted as direct sequels to previous entries. So, it raised some eyebrows if this is the start of a new trend for other projects making a similar return. As it turns out, it seems that Nancy herself, Heather Langenkamp, is excited to potentially face off against Freddy Krueger one last time in a legacy sequel for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Gosh, I’d love to see a future in that. I’ve been really watching the Halloween saga that’s been out, and I love watching Jamie Lee Curtis get to play that part. You know, this age, where I think we have so much to give to those storylines, but yeah, I wish I was in control of that, but, unfortunately, it’s one of those Hollywood very complicated things.

    Heather Langenkamp

In the age of remakes, it’s crazy to think that the concept of killing someone in their dream has not been truly explored since the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake back in 2010. While Jackie Earle Haley gave a chilling performance as Krueger, it still didn’t scratch the same itch that the original did.

A legacy sequel with Robert Englund would definitely be a dream project and there are hopefully already some discussions happening behind the scenes with the recent resurgence. If the latest season of Stranger Things can pay tribute to the iconic franchise, it just makes sense for the project to make a grand return.

  • ‘Black Panther’ Director Reveals When ‘Wakanda Forever’ Takes Place

‘Black Panther’ Director Reveals When ‘Wakanda Forever’ Takes Place

Many have wondered when exactly the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Especially this project had many wondering as we know the project will act as a tribute to Chadwick Boseman with T’Challa also having died in this universe. Many assumed the project would start off with the direct aftermath of that event, but it seems that the film actually explores the aftermath a year after his in-universe passing according to director Ryan Coogler.

Ramonda realizes that it’s been a year since T’Challa’s passing and Shuri’s still not healing—she’s not taking steps to move forward in a healthy way. They take a retreat—stepping away from the city, from the technology—to sit with no distractions and perform what is essentially a grief ritual. That’s when Namor shows up.

    Ryan Coogler

This statement was released as part of a new press release and it highlights the overall themes of this story. Just as the family is finally trying to overcome the loss, Wakanda faces its biggest threat yet. It doesn’t give away the full story but it definitely seems like the legacy of T’Challa–especially that of Chadwick Boseman–will fuel the story and the characters living through that grief.

It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle those themes with an invasion by Namor. While the character is more of an anti-hero, he’ll take on a villainous role in this entry and grief will likely also be one of the motivators for his place in this story. For now, we’ll have to wait just one more month for it to finally release in theaters.
