  • Former ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Star Directing Episode of ‘Superman & Lois’

Former ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Star Directing Episode of ‘Superman & Lois’

Production on the latest season of the CW’s Superman & Lois is underway, and it looks like fans will be treated to an unlikely Marvel crossover when new episodes begin hitting their screens.

Former Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Elizabeth Henstridge has revealed via her Instagram that she was behind the camera on the season’s seventh episode. The effort will mark her second foray into directing after she previously helmed a seventh season episode of S.H.I.E.L.D. titled “As I Have Always Been.”

Henstridge portrayed one of the brains of Phil Coulson’s operation in the Marvel series, as one half of the science duo known as “FitzSimmons.” Her character, Agent Gemma Simmons, quickly became a fan favorite on the show. While British actress hasn’t appeared in much since her time on Agents came to an end, fans can next see her in the Apple+ TV series, Suspicion, which released its first trailer a couple of days ago. While it remains to be seen what else the actress has on deck, it seems she may begin getting steady work behind the scenes as well as on camera.

All seven seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are now available to stream on Disney+, while the first season of Superman & Lois is now streaming on HBO Max.

  • ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Added New Characters During Reshoots

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Added New Characters During Reshoots

Much was made about the extensive additional photography on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While most people understood it was part of the process, others concocted elaborate fictions about how the extra work on the film spelt doom for the sequel. Over time, however, more and more evidence has surfaced to indicate that the extra time on the film was necessary to accommodate actors who couldn’t work in the UK during the original production time. With the additional work nearing an end, as first reported by Aaron Couch earlier this week, new details about it have surfaced.

According to THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, part of the reason for the reshoots, which wrap up this week, was to include new characters to the film. Inspired by the interactions of multiversal characters and Variants in Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the creative team behind the Strange sequel took the opportunity to lean heavily into the multiverse angle and include “more cameos and character introductions.”

Given how much the opening up of the MCU multiverse changes the game, there’s no telling what prior iterations of characters might show up. It would seem the Fox X-Men (maybe even Deadpool) and Fantastic Four films, Marvel Studios animated series What If…?, Netflix’s Defenders-verse series and Sony’s Spider-Man films would be ripe for the picking, along with pretty much any and every Marvel property ever put to screen, animated or live-action. True believers, it’s a great time to be alive.

  • BREAKING: Kevin Feige Confirms Active Development on a Fourth Spider-Man Film

BREAKING: Kevin Feige Confirms Active Development on a Fourth Spider-Man Film

Marvel Studios and Sony are in active development on a fourth Spider-Man collaboration, according to Kevin Feige. Speaking with the New York Times about the future of the character, Feige said the following:

Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after “Far From Home

We also know that Holland’s Spidey is due another appearance in a Marvel Studios solo film, which Feige also addressed:

He is going to show up sometime. The when and where, of course, is the fun part-and the part that we don’t talk about.

Charlie Cox To Star in Netflix Spy Drama Series ‘TREASON’

Charlie Cox is readying another project for Netflix. The Daredevil actor has signed on to the spy series, Treason, for Netflix alongside Game of ThronesOona Chaplin and acclaimed action star Olga Kurylenko. The 6-episode spy drama hails from Matt Charman, who has penned titles such as Bridge of Spies and the forthcoming Netflix title Mothership starring Halle Berry.

The premise is as follows according to Deadline:

The drama follows Adam Lawrence, trained and groomed by MI6, whose career seems set. But when the past catches up with him in the form of Kara, a Russian spy with whom he shares a complicated past, he is forced to question everything and everyone in his life. A triangular relationship forms between Kara, Adam and his wife, Maddy; three people who are trying to expose each other’s secrets, navigate political and diplomatic relationships, whilst hanging onto their personal lives, and those they love most.

Treason marks Cox’s 2nd major rodeo with Netflix, having been the star of the company’s flagship superhero show for 3 years. • ‘X-Men: First Class’ Director Wants Taron Egerton or Aaron Taylor-Johnson as MCU Wolverine

‘X-Men: First Class’ Director Wants Taron Egerton or Aaron Taylor-Johnson as MCU Wolverine

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is wide open for the debut of the mutants, an event every fan is waiting for. Alongside the debut of the very concept, fans are also anxiously awaiting who Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios cast to play the most iconic mutants. X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has some ideas for Wolverine, a character so definitively played by Hugh Jackman.

Well, he’s got older now, but I would say Tom Hardy would have…been awesome. I think Taron [Egerton] could do it in his sleep.  Aaron Taylor-Johnson could do it as well.  I mean, I think Aaron or Taron would be my first two choices could do it really well.

Vaughn has some interesting choices for sure. Egerton was once rumored to play Scott Summers in the latter X-Men films, a choice that would be perfect for the MCU version of Cyclops. Egerton is no stranger to comic book movies, having starred in the Kingsman franchise for a few years now. The same can be said for Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played Quicksilver in the MCU and is onboard for a Sony Kraven spin-off film. Neither actors seem popular in Wolverine fancasts though it would be undeniably fascinating to see either actor take on the role.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Scores Third Highest Thursday Previews Take Ever

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Scores Third Highest Thursday Previews Take Ever

Box office forecasts for Spider-Man: No Way Home have predicted a sense-shattering opening weekend for the film. Now that the numbers from the film’s domestic Thursday night previews are starting to come in, it looks like the weekend total may exceed even the most generous of guesses.

Deadline is reporting that No Way Home took in $50 million yesterday, making it the third-largest Thursday previews take ever behind only Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The $50M ranks as the biggest preview night take of the pandemic, dusting the $13.2M made by Black Widow and now stands as the best preview night take for a Spider-Man film, more than tripling what Spider-Man: Homecoming took in back in 2017.

No Way Home, which currently holds the highest Rotten Tomatoes ranking of any live-action Spider-Man movie, now looks to be on pace for a $100 million Friday and some forecasts predict the domestic opening weekend totals could exceed $250 million and push $1B in global profits.

  • Tom Holland Ready to “Take a Break”, Feels Like “We Might Be Ready to Say Goodbye to Spider-Man”

Tom Holland Ready to “Take a Break”, Feels Like “We Might Be Ready to Say Goodbye to Spider-Man”

Tom Holland has spent a lot of time in spandex over the past 6 years. Since filming for Captain America: Civil War began in 2015, Holland has appeared in 2 Avengers films and 3 solo Spider-Man films, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, out in theaters now. If anyone would have superhero fatigue, it’ Holland, given that he’s been filming something for the character every year for 6 years while also working on other films.

With No Way Home wrapping up a trilogy worth of stories for the character, Holland is looking forward to some time away from Spidey. But how much time? In a conversation with People, Holland shed some light on the subject. “I’ve spent the last six years being so focused on my career,” Holland says. “I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.

As Holland looked forward to the time off, he reflected on his time as Spidey and had some interesting thoughts about his future in the role:

I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve been so grateful to Marvel and Sony for giving us the opportunity and keeping us on and allowing our characters to progress. It’s been amazing. And that’s why for me, I don’t want to say goodbye to Spider-Man — but I feel like we might be ready to say goodbye to Spider-Man.

While in the past, Holland has said he’d love to play the character forever, he’s recently been a bit more open to seeing someone else suit up in the role. He told People that the shift in his thinking is about giving other people a stab at the character:

I don’t want to be responsible for holding back the next young person that comes in who deserves it just as much so. I would love to see a future of Spider-Man that’s more diverse — maybe you have a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman. We’ve had three Spider-Mans in a row; we’ve all been the same. It’d be nice to see something different.

Will Holland walk away from the character? Probably not if Sony producer Amy Pascal, who recently indicated that more Spidey collabs with Marvel Studios were on the way, has anything to say about it. Sony exec Tom Rothman tempered those expectations recently, but in reality it’s hard to foresee an immediate future where the two studios aren’t making more Spidey films and Holland isn’t back in the spandex.

  • ‘Hawkeye’ Directors on the Episode 5 Reveal and What to Expect from Kingpin

‘Hawkeye’ Directors on the Episode 5 Reveal and What to Expect from Kingpin

After briefly teasing him in Episode 3, directing duo Bert and Bertie brought Kingpin into the mix in last week’s episode of Hawkeye. The big boss made a brief appearance in the episode’s closing moments when it was revealed that Kate’s mom was acquainted with him (it was also revealed that she hired Yelena to kill Clint, which seems like something we all should have known by then).

Now that Kingpin, played once again by Vincent D’Onofrio, is actually in the picture, things look like they’ll get even more complicated for the Hawkeyes. Bert and Bertie talked to Insider about the reveal and what Kingpin’s presence means as the series prepares to wrap up in Episode 6.

The “how” of the reveal, the grainy still frame from a video sent to Kate by Yelena, was a major point of conversation following the episode. Bertie addressed the intro and its fulfillment of all the theories fans shared online leading up to it:

We kinda loved that it was this grainy, grainy impression of him and just confirms everyone’s suspicions because there have been lots of theories and that one’s been the outstanding theory about who this was. It’s Marvel. There’ve been different iterations of how Kingpin was revealed and this is the one that served the story, to hold him back to the very end of five.

Bert expounded on Bertie’s thoughts, saying, “There’s something about the simplicity of the simple tease,” said Bert about revealing the connection between Kingpin and Eleanor before cutting away at the end of Episode 5. “It was an interesting twist that she was there in the room with Kingpin,” she added, before teasing that the “possibilities are endless.”

Of course, now that Kingpin has finally been revealed, the big question is whether or not this character is the same one fans met on the the Netflix’s Daredevil. Turns out Marvel is in no hurry to answer that question for fans. When asked by Insider if Fisk was the same Fisk from Daredevil, Bertie replied, “Tune in on Wednesday for episode six.” And so we wait one more week.

In a surprising move, Warner Bros. and DC have switched the release for the forthcoming Blue Beetle film. Originally announced as an HBO Max exclusive, joining the likes of Black Canary and Batgirl, Blue Beetle is now heading to the big screen.

Late Thursday evening, the studio revealed Blue Beetle will hit theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.
