Gamescom: ‘Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond’s VR Story Trailer Released

Respawn Entertainment has been hard at work on the next entry in the Medal of Honor franchise. The classic icon will make a grand return as a VR experience. A new trailer was released during Gamescom that confirmed the return to the world of WW2 with Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. You will go on an adventure to play a member of what would one day become CIA. The best part of the trailer is how much interactivity they are teasing. Just standing near a piano and able to play the keys is a great way to create immersion. They also confirmed that it will consist of three acts with unique missions to keep things interesting.

  • Production on ‘THE BATMAN’ Seemingly Resuming Soon

Production on ‘THE BATMAN’ Seemingly Resuming Soon

Months after production was brought to a screeching halt in March over the growing concerns of the Covid-19 epidemic, it seems that reports of The Batman resuming production in early September are accurate as actors and those behind the cameras seem to be prepping on all fronts to get filming rolling again. The film reportedly only has three months worth of material left to film and they hope to be down by the end of the year to meet their October 1st, 2021 release date.

Crews seem to be back at the Cardington Airfield where within one of the sheds is a Cathedral set that was built for the film and can be seen in the recent trailer. Outside along the airfield, crews were spotted unloading vehicles resembling the newest Batmobile out of a van. The crew was seemingly test driving the vehicles near set probably to assess if any disrepair had come to them after months in storage and make sure they were ready to film.

Matt Reeves recently made an appearance at the highly anticipated Fandome Event, where he got into the what inspired him in this project and what he saw in these characters that made him want to dig deep and really flesh them out and the city around them, almost one living thing. The panel was by far one of, if not the most well received with the teaser released at the event racking up a stunning 19 million views.

    UPDATE

Reports of The Batman resuming filming in early September have seemingly come true and it seems they’re ready to finish work on the first installment on Pattinson‘s debut as the caped crusader. Actor Alex Ferns, who will portray Commissioner Pete Savage in the film, recently tweeted out about how good it felt to finally get back to set. This lead to speculation on what set he is referring to. With the film having abruptly shutdown production in March, it’s unlikely that Ferns finished filming his scenes. Ferns can be seen in the recent teaser trailer to the film at the 0:55 mark, next to Gordon seemingly addressing the press on the incidents that transpired at the same funeral shown in the teaser.

The Batman will be directed by Matt Reeves and is set to release on October 1st, 2021, the film will star Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrel, and Andy Serkis.

Sebastian Stan Shares a BTS Image from ‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’

It may be from filming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2019, but the image shared via Sebastian Stan’s Instagram below still gets me excited. Here’s hoping Sebastian’s added activities on Instagram lately means we’ll get a heads up from the Bucky Barnes actor when they do resume behind the cameras.

How do I know it’s a picture from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, you may ask? Note the dog tag, which Sebastian also showed off in an Instagram stories in November, shortly after they began filming.

  • Obi-Wan to Face Commander Cody in Upcoming Series

Obi-Wan to Face Commander Cody in Upcoming Series

There have been rumblings for quite some time, but now, and according to Corey and Noah over at the Kessel Run Transmissions, Hayden Christensen is indeed returning to the Star Wars universe to play Anakin Skywalker in the yet-untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Christensen has been very involved in Star Wars fan events in the past few years, so it comes as no surprise that the next step would be to bring him back to the iconic role that he first played almost 20 years ago. And even though this piece of news alone allows for a lot of speculation on what the plot of the series is concerned, it’s the confirmation that Clone Commander Cody (and his 212th) is also set to come back to live-action that seems to bring it all together.

Even since the series was officially confirmed back in August 2019 (and even before that) that fans have been wondering what could an Obi-Wan centered production, set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, as this one is, be about. The last time we saw the character in Episode III he was delivering baby Luke to his uncles on Tatooine, and at the beginning of Episode IV he was still there, having spent almost two full (earth) decades looking out for young Luke, making sure the wrong people didn’t get to him. So would a Kenobi series have to be set in Tatooine since it’s plausible Obi-Wan didn’t leave the planet during that extended period? Yes and no.

    Obi-Wan-and-Anakin

Having Anakin Skywalker in the series will mean that the show, while set between the previously mentioned theatrical releases, will likely feature several flashbacks to a time before Obi-Wan settled down in Tatooine, before Luke was born and before Anakin turned into Darth Vader. Events in the series’ present-day may serve as the catalyst to these flashbacks, mirroring past events and allowing us to go deeper into Obi-Wan’s memories. But for those events to trigger Kenobi’s memories they would have to be pretty meaningful. And this is where someone familiar to him, from his past, would come into play.

Anakin, now Darth Vader, would probably be choice number one. But even though Vader is also set to show up in the series (and there’s ‘probably a 50/50 chance of having Christensen in the role – either he will or he won’t), them coming together probably wouldn’t fit into the overarching storyline. When they both met in A New Hope, Vader said “When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.” And it’s doubtful Anakin doesn’t see his transformation into Darth Vader as the moment he finally became more than Kenobi was.

    twin-suns-kenobi-maul-tall

Darth Maul would also be an interesting choice. Since we found out he didn’t die in Episode I, we’ve learned of his obsession with Kenobi, and how he sees as his destiny to finally overcome him in battle. But his appearance would undermine everything Star Wars Rebels achieved when addressing their conflict. And, as Vader, we have already seen the way he dies. This could remove most of the tension that should be integral to such confrontations.

But Commander Cody could be it. We last saw him turning against the Jedi in the final act of Episode III, when Cody was Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi’s subordinate. They lead the 212th Legion, a military battalion of the Grand Army of the Republic, during the Clone Wars, having developed a friendly relationship being the implementation of Order 66 (that commanded all clone troopers to kill their Jedi officers) what turned them into enemies. This means that there would be some personal feelings involved if these two would even come face to face in the series, making it all the more meaningful.

The plot for the series, as the guys at Kessel Run Transmissions confirmed, seems to focus on a hunt for Obi-Wan Kenobi. If making Darth Vader lead such an endeavor would probably feel like overkill, having someone that fought alongside Kenobi, that earned his confidence and respect, that probably knows him better than most, makes the most sense. So being, we will probably witness a search for the former Jedi Knight, orchestrated by Vader but led by Commander Cody. And having to face such an old ally may lead Obi-Wan to relive some moments from The Clone Wars where both Anakin and Cody were beside him, and this is where he might end up finding the answers he needs to overcome the ordeal facing him in the present.

In the past year, Fortnite has began partnering with companies to offer licensed skins from properties such as Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and even Stranger Things. With the release of a Captain America skin in July, many fans began to analyze the video and realize that there was more to what seemed to be a simple 4th of July release with a many fans catching Thor’s bifrost pattern.

Today, Fortnite announced that their next battlepass would be based around Marvel and would introduce many new cosmetics from the companies wide variety of characters. A year later before the release of Avengers: Endgame, the gamemode was rereleased with some changes such as Chitauri ai, and weapons such as Stormbreaker, Cap’s Shield, Iron Man’s repulsors, and Hawkeye’s bow to fight back against Thanos and the Chitauri invaders. • RECAP: Nintendo Direct Mini August 2020

RECAP: Nintendo Direct Mini August 2020

A few years ago, Nintendo started their own digital event series titled Nintendo Direct. They’ve pioneered the approach and started to expand on it. We saw the addition of Indie World to focus on Indie releases. As the current pandemic has delayed quite a few projects, they added the Mini version to showcase some producing partners. We just recently got one focused on Atlus’ games like Shin Megami Tensei. Suddenly, Nintendo decided to drop another one today. As there were quite a few announcements, here is a quick recap from the Direct Mini:

    • Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is confirmed for a November 13th release date. It was leaked a few weeks ago by an Austrian retailer.
    • Fuser will allow multiple players to mix up songs and compete for who gets the most reactions. It will release this Fall.
    • Taiko No Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack is an adventure game based on the popular drumming franchise. This will consist of two separate adventures similar to Pokémon Sword and Shield. Game is confirmed for Winter 2020.
    • World of Tanks Blitz was released the same day for Switch players
    • Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions is a tie-in game for the Rocky and Creed films. The boxing game will let you fight iconic characters like Adonis Creed, Rocky Balboa, Clubber Lang and many more. It will also include local mutliplayer
    • Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legends is a re-release of the original Gameboy trilogy. It is the first time it will be made available in Europe. Game will be made available as of December 15th.
    • Just Dance 2021 will release with 40 tracks on November 12th.
    • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 has also been confirmed. This will once again let players play competitively by seeing if Puyo Puyo or Tetris is the ultimate puzzle game. It also includes an adventure mode that will be playable once it releases December 8th.

The August Mini ended with a few reminders for the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons DLC; Jump Force‘s Switch release, a new entry in the Captain Tsubasa franchise and this month’s release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. At first, I thought this Direct Mini was going to focus on rhythm games but the World of Tanks announcement was a surprise curveball. One thing is for sure though, did not expect a game based on Creed two years after the last film was released.

Also, to accompany the Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory announcement, series creator Tetsuya Nomura also shared a brand-new key art.

  • ‘Making The Witcher’ Special Released on Netflix

‘Making The Witcher’ Special Released on Netflix

Making of-Series are all the rage right now. Disney+ created Disney Gallery to show how they made their originals. Currently, the first season only showcases the making of behind The Mandalorian. They even released an exclusive Frozen 2 BTS series titled Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2. Looks like Netflix wants a part of this BTS pie. They have now officially released Making The Witcher that offers a look into Lauren Schmidt Hissrich‘s adaptation of the iconic book series. They also released a trailer to let everyone know what they can expect.

The Witcher was a great addition to Netflix’s ever-expanding media library. It was a bit confusing in how often it jumped between different time periods but it still was quite a fun ride. Henry Cavill was a perfect choice as Geralt of Rivia. He certainly has a talent for grunting at people. I cannot wait to see how they got a lot of those creature effects done. Some of them looked outstanding and the blend of practical with CGI is always a major plus. The special will be around 32 minutes long with interviews of the cast.

The series is already renewed for a second season. As the first focused on short stories that took place before the main storyline, we do not know what will be the focus in the next eight episodes. A prequel is currently in the works under the title The Witcher: Blood Origin. They even announced an anime spin-off as well. Series was one of Netflix’s most-watched debut shows so they will milk it as much as they can. Production has already resumed for the second season so maybe we will get some teases in this special feature on what we can expect moving forward.

  • ‘Gotham Knights’ Producers Reveal Game Mechanics & Tease Franchise’s Future

‘Gotham Knights’ Producers Reveal Game Mechanics & Tease Franchise’s Future

DC FanDome has brought us some amazing surprises. We finally got our first look at Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad. The event even started with WB Games Montreal’s reveal of Gotham Knights. We still had a lot of open questions after the event. Luckily, IGN got a chance to interview Gotham Knights’ creative director Patrick Redding and senior producer Fleur Marty. They offered more insight into the game. Here’s a quick summary of what we learned from the interview:

    • This will potentially kickstart a new franchise. Redding teased something may already be development.
    • Gamestyle will be similar to third-person action-adventure brawlers.
    • Special abilities will be linked to an ability tree.
    • Characters play different and offer unique modifications and upgrade options. They point out Red Hood as a very unique character.
    • Gear is confirmed for the game. This is connected to melee and ranged weapons, as well as suit characteristics.
    • The city is open from the start. No level gating when exploring Gotham.
    • The game won’t be game-as-service.
    • The game can be played as a self-contained story or 2 player co-op.
    • The story takes place over multiple nights. Daytime is spent in the “Belfry” headquarter. During these sections, the characters will be out of costume, or at least show their face.
    • Alfred is confirmed to be in the game. Will appear in the Belfry.
    • Once again confirmed as a separate universe. This was planned since the beginning.

There is a lot to unpack in this short interview. It certainly is a departure from the Batman-heavy Arkham franchise. Gotham Knights will be quite a departure. I cannot wait to get my hands on the game. Already want to play as Red Hood. Also, Court of Owls is always a win.
