As the clock to SDCC and, perhaps, D23 ticks away, Marvel Studios has been reportedly rushing to put together the ensemble cast of director Jake Schreier‘s X-Men. While trades have yet to confirm the news, a pair of social media scoopers claim to have learned that Star Wars franchise actor Adam Driver has been cast as Magneto, giving the MCU’s take on the Children of the Atom some serious star power as it begins its own multi-film X-Men franchise.
While Driver is the first actor outside of Sadie Sink to have potentially locked down a role, a number of young stars such as Charles Melton, Inde Navarrette, Odessa A’Zion and Peter Claffey have been rumored to be on Marvel’s shortlist for the 2028 film. Now, one of the insiders who broke the news of Driver‘s alleged role has revealed a trio of characters that are being cast now.
According to Apocalyptic Horseman, Marvel is currently casting the Omega-level Weather Witch Storm, along with team powerhouse Rogue and founding X-Men member Cyclops.
While the insider clarified that they haven’t chosen actors for those roles yet, trade reports have had the studio working on casting the film for nearly a year.
Though it’s possible Kevin Feige would love to run the cast of X-Men on stage at either SDCC or D23, Marvel may not be in as much of a rush as some believe as according to Apocalyptic Horseman, principal photography on X-Men isn’t scheduled to kick off until Spring 2027. This information will, inevitably, begin an avalanche of anxiety with fans claiming the film–which has never been given an official release date–is running behind schedule and will be delayed while, pragmatically, it would have plenty of time to be ready for theaters by either May 5th or July 28th, 2028.
