‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’: Who is Savant?

With the roster for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad stacked with wildly disparate and relatively unknown DC Comics villains, we thought it would be great to get to know each of them in 400 words or less. Don’t get too attached after reading though, because there’s a good bet most of them won’t be around for the sequel. It’s time to meet and greet the members of Task Force X!

Savant (DC Comics) - Alchetron, The Free Social Encyclopedia

A wealthy genius whose memories become tangled in time, Savant first appeared in 2003’s Birds of Prey #56. Initially a Gotham City vigilante whose run in with Batman forced him into a career move, Brian Durlin decided to use his skills behind the keyboard to dig up information and become a big time blackmailer who set his sights on the big prize: the true identity of the Batman! Savant’s plan to uncover the name of the man behind the cowl saw him tangle with the Birds of Prey, holding Black Canary hostage in hopes that Barbara Gordan would spill the beans. Instead, she spilled some of his blood but rather than throw him away, Babs saw a pathway to redemption for Durlin and brought him on board the team in hopes that his impressive tech skills would help them out.

Savant’s inability to totally divorce himself from his criminal ways found him going back and forth between two worlds and his behavior at the intersection of those two worlds led to him being dismissed from the BoP more than once. Having developed feelings for Barbara, however, he kept coming back in hopes of making it work. That never worked out for him and he never quite got along with Batman either, but Savant never seemed to be a truly evil character. When DC rebooted their universe in 2011, Savant was part of Amanda Waller’s new Task Force X whose job was to hunt down Suicide Squad mainstay, Harley Quinn.

Savant will be brought to life on the big screen by James Gunn’s BFF for life, the great Michael Rooker. Rooker, like Dastmalchian, is no stranger to superhero or comic book fare having starred as Yondu in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Gunn’s dark superhero comedy, Super, and The Walking Dead. Rooker has also been in pretty much everything Gunn has ever made.

    Murphy’s Multiverse Dead Pool Predictions

Predicted Chances of Survival: if negative numbers worked in percentages, I’d go lower than 0.

Predicted Manner of Death: something incredibly horrific. Given Gunn’s relationship with Rooker, I’m guessing this death will be the most absurd of them all. Let’s go with a particularly bad case of being cut in half.

    RIP Savant

‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’: Who is King Shark?

With the roster for James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad stacked with wildly disparate and relatively unknown DC Comics villains, we thought it would be great to get to know each of them in 400 words or less. Don’t get too attached after reading though, because there’s a good bet most of them won’t be around for the sequel! It’s time to meet and greet the members of Task Force X!

    King-Shark

King Shark a.k.a. Nanaue first appeared in Superboy #9 after a brief cameo in Superboy #0. Throughout his comic run, many believed he was a mutated human. It wasn’t until the Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis run that he was confirmed as the son of the Shark God and a human woman. As he is part shark, he is seen frequently eating humans. The first time we meet him, he has been abducting people for years. So much so, his name had become synonymous with an Hawaiian legend.

He actually joined the Suicide Squad comics in the same run he was introduced. In Superboy #15, he was forced to join by Amanda Waller due to them infiltrating a sea base. Unlike other members, he was equipped with a bomb belt that would ensure his cooperation. This mission also saw his death, as he was knocked into reactors that led to his belt exploding. He has reappeared since to became a mainstay in Aquaman’s various series. During the New 52 era, he had changed from a humanoid Great White to a humanoid Hammerhead shark. This version was stolen as an egg by Waller to be raised as a member of Task Force X.

He is the only character who currently has no designated actor in the roll call. Steve Agee played the character while they were filming. Some might recognize the actor from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Brightburn. Currently, rumors are pointing to Taika Waititi voicing the character but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. The trailer teases a kinder version of the character so it would be perfect casting.

King Shark has seen a rise in popularity as of late. The Flash introduced a human version, who mutates into the iconic shark man. He also appeared in Harley Quinn voiced by Ron Funches and will be playable in Rocksteady’s upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game.

    Predicted manner of death: self-sacrifice

‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’: Who is Polka-Dot Man?

With the roster for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad stacked with wildly disparate and relatively unknown DC Comics villains, we thought it would be great to get to know each of them in 400 words or less. Don’t get too attached after reading though, because there’s a good bet most of them won’t be around for the sequel. It’s time to meet and greet the members of Task Force X!

Everything You Need To Know About Suicide Squad 2's Polka-Dot Man

Abner Krill, the bizarre Polka-Dot Man, first crossed Batman’s path in 1962’s Detective Comics #300 after battling with the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder. Using a series of detachable dots from his unitard, Krill was able to piss Batman off pretty badly by capturing Robin. Of course Krill’s fancy dots (which include some that turn into flying saucers, act as flashbangs or even allow him to teleport) were no match for Batman’s utility belt and he found himself on the inside of a jail cell.

Years later, Krill would return to his criminal endeavors; however, even the Polk-Dot Man can fall on hard times. Without a constant income, Krill decided to go on a good old fashioned heist using a baseball bat as a weapon (see the image above!). Krill would go on to square off the Gotham PD and Nightwing over the years, routinely finding himself on the wrong side of a beating and heading back to jail before meeting his demise in 2009’s Final Crisis Aftermath: Run #4 when his head was, inconveniently, located under a manhole cover as it descended towards Earth. Recently, Krill was briefly a part of Task Force X in the Injustice comics before being quickly dispatched by the good old neck bomb.

David Dastmalchian landed the esteemed and sought after role of Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad. Dastmalchian is no stranger to CBMs having been seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and in Marvel Studios Ant-Man franchise.

    Murphy’s Multiverse Dead Pool Predictions

    Predicted chances of survival: 0%

Predicted manner of death: detonation of neck bomb by Rick Flag

    RIP Polka-Dot Man

  • FanDome: ‘THE BATMAN’ is Vengeance in First Teaser

FanDome: ‘THE BATMAN’ is Vengeance in First Teaser

This was always going to be the big news of the day and despite the big build up, it didn’t disappoint. Matt Reeves take on the story of the Dark Knight looks to be unlike anything we’ve seen to this point and darker than expected.

Reeves teased that the film, which finds Robert Pattinson’s Batman in “Year Two”, will serve as the origin stories for villains like The Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman while giving us new iterations of classic Batman supporting characters Alfred and Jim Gordon. The film takes place at a time where the legend of Batman is growing in a corrupt Gotham City and the citizens have yet to learn his true intentions. Reeves’ passion and enthusiasm for the project was evident while discussing the film and this version of Batman. Have a look at what is an incredibly noir take on the world’s greatest detective!

  • FanDome: ‘SUICIDE SQUAD’ Game Confirmed as Part of Arkham Series

We just recently ran the first trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It confirmed that Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark will be playable in the game. The first trailer didn’t really quite giveaway how the gameplay would be. The game can be played alone or with three friends. It seems that you are also able to switch between the characters while you are tacking down the enemies.

There were also some questions about its placement within the universes. Just today, we found out that WB Games Montreal Gotham Knights won’t be part of the already established Arkham games. As such, it was unsure if this game is part of the Arkham series or rather the new storyline created by Montreal’s project.

Well, Rocksteady’s Sefton Hill confirmed that this game will take place within the “Arkhamverse”. This is a rather interesting choice as that would mean we explore a world where Batman has died. Now, the Justice League seemed to have gone rogue and a group of misfits are forced to take them down. The major story will be why the Justice League have gone crazy and I cannot wait to find out.

  • FanDome: Your First Look at ‘Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’

DC FanDome is truly an exciting day for DC fans. We kickstarted the day with a reveal for the new Batman game. Now, we had to wait for the first look at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. We’ve been waiting for five years since the last game made by Rocksteady. Rumors were plenty discussing a potential Superman game or even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just a few days ago, we finally got the confirmation that it is indeed a Suicide Squad game. Now, we also finally got a trailer that gives us a good look at what to expect from the game. One thing is for sure, it is quite a stylish entry into the franchise.

  • FanDome: ‘SHAZAM!’ Sequel Title Revealed to be ‘FURY OF THE GODS’

FanDome: ‘SHAZAM!’ Sequel Title Revealed to be ‘FURY OF THE GODS’

In 2019, Shazam! blew away critics, surprised general audiences and showed the world that the Big Red Cheese wasn’t just a kid movie. Zachary Levi proved perfect in the role and the supporting cast, including the always brilliant Mark Strong, each took turns stealing scenes and buying some real estate in the hearts of the audience. The studio quickly announced a sequel and now, thanks to the gregarious Levi, we have an idea of what to expect and it’s obvious DC is taking this sequel to the next level.

Levi brought in Asher Angel, Faithe Herman, Jack Dylan Grazer and Meagan Good before being joined by director David F. Sandberg and…Sinbad? The crew continually teased that they weren’t able to say much about the film before revealing the title: Fury of the Gods! Just what this will mean for the plot of the film remains to be seen but I’m sure we’ll all be speculating…furiously…

  • FanDome: Red Hood, Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow Joining ‘TITANS’ Season 3

Titans is an interesting addition to the DC universe. It explored a darker version of the titular hero team. We saw Dick Grayson grow out of the shadows of his former mentor, as he tries to protect Raven from her demon father’s influences. It wasn’t until the second season that the actual team formed as they faced the assassin Deathstroke. He was even the reason the original team that the original team was forced to split up.

Now, DC FanDome has finally arrived and we got some info on what to expect from the upcoming season. We ended the last with Grayson embracing the Nightwing mantle. The third season was delayed due to the pandemic as it was originally going to premiere in the fourth quarter of this year. Still, many were hoping we get a first look at what the season will offer and confirmation if Jason Todd would become Red Hood.

That isn’t all as we also got the reveal that Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow will be joining the next season. They are using the next season to explore Gotham a bit. Both Barbara and Grayson are going to have to learn from their guardians mistakes, as Todd embraces his evil side once he accepts the moniker of Red Hood.

Won’t lie, I am a huge Red Hood fan. Loved the character ever since I saw the Red X version in the Teen Titans animated series. So, getting a first look at him in live-action is just great to see. No matetr

FanDome: ‘BLACK ADAM’ Concept Art Teases His Vengeful Conquest

Dwayne Johnson has been a powerhouse in Hollywood. When he announced that he would end up playing the titular role in an upcoming Black Adam, we couldn’t wait to get our first look. Luckily, DC FanDome has scheduled an entire panel for the upcoming project. Just before the event started, we even got our first look at the logo. That is naturally not all that got revealed. The event started off with an amazing animated showcase of artwork that tells the story of the iconic anti-hero. The animation was an amazing way to retell the story.

Here are some of the screengrabs that tease just how ruthless he will be in his conquest against those that wronged him.

  • FanDome: ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Confirmed As 4-Part Mini-Series

So, we were all wondering what exactly Zack Snyder’s Justice League would be released as. There were theories that we would be getting a two to three-hour film. Some were hinting at it being a mini-series that re-tells his version in parts. This way, he could explore more of the original concept that was planned. Well, in the DC FanDome panel, he confirmed that it will be a four-part mini-series with each episode consisting of an hour.

This is huge news as it opens up the question if we will get all four parts at the same time. Zack Snyder did confirm that they will interlink to form one cohesive story. They might have split it up to give Snyder more time to explore and people can watch it in parts to not be overwhelmed by the length. No matter how they release his version of the story, it will be great to see his original vision see the light of day.
