  • FanDome: ‘THE BATMAN’ Takes Place During Year Two

To some degree, we knew that The Batman will take place in a separate universe. Yet, we never knew what exactly the plans are for these projects. Director Matt Reeves has been working on a Gotham PD series that will take place in this universe. There have also been rumors of a potential spin-off focusing on Catwoman, who will also appear in the upcoming film. Well, in the DC FanDome panel “Multiverse 101” they have confirmed some interesting tidbits by DC’s Walter Hamada.

They confirm that the story will take place during Robert Pattisons’ Year Two. The entire franchise will take place on a new world where Reeves will plan out its entire expansion. This is quite an exciting reveal, as it confirms that this story will take place independent from the rest of the DC universe. Plus, it’s reassuring to know that Reeves will act as a showrunner to keep everything connected. The Batman is starting to shape into the most exciting project DC is currently working on.

FanDome: ‘Gotham Knights’ Gameplay Teases Showdown With Mr. Freeze

Alright, information is just coming out of this DC FanDome panel on the next installment in the Batman gaming franchise. We got our first look at the game and the confirmation of the title of Batman: Gotham Knights. This opened up the theory if we will also get the confirmation of the rumored gameplay. Supposedly, this game was going to take inspiration from the Lord of the Rings games. This means that it would include various factions at war throughout Gotham. They did confirm that your actions will influence the characters’ development throughout the game. Now, the DC FanDome panel has not only given us a trailer for the story but also an entire 8 minutes of gameplay.

We sadly only have the release date of 2021 so the wait will be a painful one once again. Still, these new gameplay mechanics sound like an amazing addition to the game we know and love. This brings a whole new meaning to protecting Gotham from evil. It will be interesting to see how the co-op will function once the game releases.

  • FanDome: Your First Look at ‘GOTHAM KNIGHTS’

FanDome: Your First Look at ‘GOTHAM KNIGHTS’

Finally, WB Games Montreal confirmed the title for their next Batman game today. It has been 7 years since they released Batman: Arkham Origins. We haven’t had the chance to play as the titular Batman since 2016 in Batman: Arkham VR. This is the longest wait we had in-between game releases for the franchise. Many of us are just waiting to once again step into the cape and cowl and keep Gotham safe.  After plenty of leaks and cryptic tweets, we finally got our first look at the latest entry in the Batman gaming franchise, Gotham Knights.

    https://twitter.com/r3dakt3d/status/1297224550040473600

It has been a long wait for this game. The Batman Arkham franchise has been a massive success for Warner Bros. and kickstarted a new era for video games based on comic characters. We knew that WB Games Montreal was going to be involved as they were behind the Batman: Arkham Origins prequel. They worked closely with Rocksteady, the original creators of the franchise. As they venture out to their new Suicide Squad game. The trailer looks amazing and now I hate that I will have to wait until the game finally releases. It’s going to feel like an eternity but the trailer certainly has me excited. the trailer at first makes us think it is part of the Arkham Knight ending with Batman announced dead but a lot doesn’t match up. This is a separate universe with a unique take on the mythos. That tease at the end has me extremely excited for what the Court of Owls has planned for the Bat-family.

  • FanDome: ‘BLACK ADAM’ Logo Leaks Ahead of Panel

FanDome: ‘BLACK ADAM’ Logo Leaks Ahead of Panel

DC FanDome can’t avoid the early leaks. There is still some time to go before the event starts. Some of the merch has already leaked online a bit ahead of schedule. We just recently covered our first look at Task Force X for the upcoming The Suicide Squad film. Now, we also have our first look at the upcoming Black Adam logo. We just recently got a reveal of Dwayne Johnson in costume so it was just a question of time before we see the logo.

I won’t lie, it is kind of bland. The color scheme chosen is perfect for the characters design. Even the font seems to pay tribute to the logo design for Shazam!. It makes sense to connect these shows visually as they will crossover at one point. Still, the logo that really popped in the last film. This is quite different from the tease that Dwayne Johnson shared on Instagram yesterday.

They could’ve made the logo pop out by having the Lightning bolt being black. Johnson‘s teaser made it stand out a bit more but it would’ve been cool to flip the lightning as a reaction to the previous film’s version. It would highlight that he isn’t as kind as Shazam if it had a darker color. Plus, they could make the Black Adam stand out with strong golden lettering. There is always the chance this logo will change as they enter production. It could also just be something they prepared for merch.  Even the first logo for the original Suicide Squad film changed quite a bit once the marketing started.

  • FanDome: ‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’ Leaked Merch Offers First Look at Task Force X

We are only a few hours away from the DC FanDome event. Throughout the week they have been teasing the various reveals we can expect. Only James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad has been a major mystery. We’ve been expecting a reveal of the massive cast for the film. Hopefully, there is also the chance we will also get a short trailer. There are still some hours to go before the panel but looks like we got an early look at the characters. The Twitter account RPK shared a first look of the teams through some event merch.

I forgot how large this cast is. We also gto an additional merch that shows some of the logos that will be used for the characters. It is quite a departure from the first over-stylized Suicide Squad logos.

The standouts from this logos are the confirmation of King Shark, Ratcatcher, Savant, Thinker and Peacemaker. The goggles could be a hint at Mirror Master being included. The first shirt design also gives us a look at Idris Elba but still no reveal of who he might be playing. I am a little sad we aren’t getting the Hammerhead version of King Shark but generally cannot wait to see his full deign in action. There is a nice addition that the Suicide Squad will once again be known as Task Force X. Also, it will be interesting to see how they will differ between the film and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. If this is just our first little tease, i cannot wait to see what the panel has in store for us.

  • ‘THE GOOD PLACE’S” William Jackson Harper to Narrate ‘Black Panther’ Audio Series

‘THE GOOD PLACE’S” William Jackson Harper to Narrate ‘Black Panther’ Audio Series

We’ve talked about video games, films and comics so far. Now, it’s time to explore a completely new part of the media multiverse, audio dramas. Marvel is no stranger to these kinds of projects. They’ve created a series focused on everyone’s favorite Wolverine titled Wolverine: The Lost Trail. There also is an audio drama focused on the king of Wakanda, T’Challa. The story Black Panther: The Young Prince explored his childhood.

It seems that they aren’t quite done yet with the cat-friendly superhero, as they are expanding with one more titled Marvel’s Black Panther: Sins of the King. It will be released in January, as it follows the T’Challa facing a reality where his father was accidentally brought back to life. Now, it was revealed that The Good Place‘s William Jackson Harper will be narrating the story. He shared his enthusiasm in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I remember seeing Black Panther in the theatre and just being giddy about how many kids like me will have this be one of their first and formative sci-fi experiences, and how open they will be to seeing all kinds of people inhabiting these worlds as they grow older, which is why I am thrilled to be a part of this project.”

It’s always great to see companies branch out and try new approaches to reach audiences. Stories that focus on characters like Black Panther are especially important to share, as Harper points out. DC has also started exploring the world of audio drama with its recent release of The Sandman on Audible. Hopefully, this could also kickstart Harper‘s chancing of joining the upcoming sequel to Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. He was amazing in The Good Place and would make a great addition to that film’s cast. Either way, it will be exciting to hear his narration once Marvel’s Black Panther Sins of the King releases.

  • Kathleen Kennedy Talks ‘Star Wars’ Future

Kathleen Kennedy Talks ‘Star Wars’ Future

Star Wars’ journey has been quite turbulent. It has established its place in animation through shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels. Then founder George Lucas sold the company to Disney. They tried to kickstart a new trilogy. that explores the galaxy far far away after the events of Return of the Jedi. After the last entry of the new trilogy, Rise of Skywalker, was released to a mixed reception, they decided to take a step back to re-evaluate their next move. Everyone was waiting to find out what the future would hold. The franchise has started expanding more into long-term storytelling, especially after its success with The Mandalorian on Disney+ and many other shows in the pipeline.

According to the President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy, they are still planning out how they will move forward. She highlighted that they want to try and expore the 25,000 years of history in this universe. They are also not trying to be bound by one medium, as they expand their projects into books and games. Their goal is to continue what George Lucas started. One interesting thing to note is that she did point out in her interview with The Wrap:

“That’s what we’ve been doing, and we’ve been having a great deal of fun doing it, and meeting with lots of different filmmakers and talent. There’s so many fans out there and so many filmmakers that have been influenced by Star Wars for so long that it’s a fantastic opportunity to get a sense of who wants to be a part of this. So that’s what we’ve been doing.”

So far, we know that a film is in development with Taika Waititi, who also direct episodes on The Mandalorian. We are still anxious to find out what kind of story he will tell in the Star Wars universe. This also means that we might get more standalone films moving forward. There were rumblings of them potentially exploring the Old Republic to take a unique look at Jedi history. She also highlighted that TV will be an integral part for the franchise’s future.

“I do. And I’ve already seen evidence of it. The ability to be very character-driven, with extended storytelling and connected storytelling, I think this space offers us a great opportunity to do that.”

It’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. There are a lot of stories to explore in the galaxy far far away. Kennedy‘s last statement also fits their current approach to the brand. We’ve mainly heard many various shows being announced, like the untitled Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi shows. They also created a spin-off from The Clone Wars titled The Bad Batch. One thing is for sure, we won’t be running out of Star Wars content anytime soon.

  • New ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Poster Teases Trailer at DC FanDome

New ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Poster Teases Trailer at DC FanDome

We all were wondering how big DC FanDome was going to be that we underestimated how much they’d do to promote it. Rocksteady promoted their upcoming Suicide Squad game. Matt Reeves released the logo for The Batman alongside some key art. WB Games Montreal has been teasing their upcoming game with cryptic tweets. It has been an insane week and DC FanDome is already tomorrow. Now, Warner Bros. has also released a brand new poster for Wonder Woman 1984.

Now that is what I call a beautiful poster. Wonder Woman has really embraced the 80s aesthetic. They also are highlighting that amazing new costume for Wonder Woman that makes me think of Saint Seiya every time I see it. It is also exciting to think we will get a new trailer as well. We still do not know when the film will release with all the delays but WB seems to be sticking to their guns with the “only in Cinemas” tagline. They might be trying to gain some points while Disney is exploring VOD options with Mulan.

Hopefully, the upcoming trailer will give us our first good look at Cheetah. We did get some teases of Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva in the last trailer. Sadly, we are still waiting to see a fully transformed Cheetah in action. It will be interesting to see how her character plays into the story. I’ll be honest, if the trailer is anything to go by I am just really excited to hear the soundtrack they have planned for this film. Cannot wait to explore the DCEU’s 80s in WW84.

  • New Evidence Links ‘Grass-Fed Productions’ to Marvel Studios

New Evidence Links ‘Grass-Fed Productions’ to Marvel Studios

As mentioned in this piece, Murphy’s Multiverse was able to independently confirm that Captain Marvel 2 has been registered in the UK. While searching for information on that, something even more interesting came to the surface…Grass-Fed Productions is also registered in the UK with the paperwork signed by none other than Marvel Studios representatives. So, as speculated on the other day, Grass-Fed is a Marvel Studios production. A lot of people doubted it; I’ll admit it even made me doubt myself, but the evidence is clear at this point.

Avengers 4: Has the MCU been planning a Secret Invasion all along ...

What does all this mean and how does it tie into the earlier report on Captain Marvel 2? As of now, the next property set to film in the UK is Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness and it’s probably closer to getting off the ground than we think. The leaked audition video for America Chavez was a couple of weeks old and the fact that is was, for a time, publicly available almost certainly means that the actress who posted it was informed she did not get the role. Now that doesn’t mean that someone has, but it does mean they’re down the road a bit in that process, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they found the right actress for the role. Should the Strange sequel be able to start by November or so, it could wrap up by next March or April (the original shoot was set for April/May-August and we can expect that productions might take a bit longer now). Captain Marvel 2 is probably going to film in the UK after Strange is done, so it could get started as soon as May of next year and finish around September. From there, they likely move on to whatever film Grass-Fed Production is and that could start production in or around October of 2021. So what film could it be?

The other day, I speculated on the possibility that it might be either Blade or the Secret Invasion project that Marvel Studios is developing. If you’re curious, you can read the reasoning behind those guesses here. My gut instinct is that this is Blade because it’s the only other “announced” Marvel Studios project for which there is no known production company, but another interesting possibility has come to light in the past few days.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Sony had brought Olivia Wilde on board to helm their Spider-Woman project. The rights to the character are split between Sony and Marvel Studios so, without getting into too much detail, the character can’t be fully realized in a project unless the two studios cooperate on the production, similarly to how they’ve worked on Spider-Man. As explained more here, Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connell, who both worked with Marvel Studios on the first two Spider-Man films, are producing Spider-Woman, so until we have it clarified by one studio or the other, fans of the character are holding out hope that the studios will play nice, work together and set the film firmly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just like Tom Holland’s Spidey, with the possibility of telling other stories in whatever Sony’s universe is.

But how do you get from “Grass-Fed” to Spider-Woman? It’s actually not as big of a leap as you might think. As one of my Twitter followers pointed out earlier in the week, Jessica Drew was actually raised by one of the High Evolutionary’s New Men, Bova, a cow evolved into a highly-intelligent humanoid. Bova cared for Jessica until she was a teenager and then placed her in an orphanage where Jessica stayed until her own adventures began. Drew’s origin has been retconned several times and, if this is a Marvel Studios project, there’s no telling which origin they’d use or if they’d include Bova, but the subtlety of the reference and not knowing whether or not they’d tell this story does not mean they wouldn’t jokingly reference it while naming the production company.

Bova with Jessica from Spider-Woman #20

Canonically, both Blade and Jessica Drew were born in the UK and spent time all over Europe, so filming out of the UK would give the production crews easier access to a lot of European locations, rather than flying back and forth from America, and give either film a more authentic feel. At a time where travel isn’t quite as easy as it once was, that probably matters. If we follow the timeline I laid out above, Blade would seem to make the most sense given that it would line up for an October 2022 release and Marvel Studios still has a date set aside there; however, don’t forget that prior to COVID altering everything, Sony had planted a flag for an Untitled Marvel project on October 8, 2021 and some speculation at the time centered on that being Spider-Woman. And yes, even though Spider-Woman would be a Sony film, it would be a Marvel Studios production which means they would register the production company like the did for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, though Sony would chose the date for the film.

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information at the moment, but given Sony’s recent movement, it’ll be informative if Marvel Studios follows suit at some point over the next few weeks.
