Barry Keoghan Hasn’t Heard of Any Future ‘Eternals’ Plans

As we near the first anniversary of Eternals’ theatrical release, there remains no word on what the future of the franchise is. And based on the words of Barry Keoghan (who starred as Druig in the film), the stars of the original film don’t know either. While discussing his upcoming role in The Banshees of Inisherin with Uproxx, the actor spoke about how he hasn’t heard anything about his future with Marvel Studios and who he’s relied on to keep up to date with this sort of news.

Kumail (Nanjiani) is always the one I’m texting. I’m like, “Yo, have you heard anything on Eternals 2?” Kumail knows everything. You know what I mean? He loves comic books. The comic world…I’m always texting him like about San Diego Comic-Con. I’m like, “Hey, are we going to San Diego for Eternals?” but I’d love to see where it goes. I really would.

    Barry Keoghan

Eternals was one of the few notable Marvel franchises that did not have any news come out of San Diego Comic-Con or the immediate following weeks. Based on the ever-dwindling amount of open slots within the Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could end up being a while before the team returns to screens. And with that, Barry Keoghan has expressed curiosity in terms of where the story will go next.

There’s a lot that we could dive into and there’s a lot of character stories that we can go with and that as well. So I will be curious to see where Kevin (Feige), Victoria Alonso, and they all take it.

    Barry Keoghan

When speaking about the specific process of making the first Eternals film, Keoghan gave high praise to director Chloe Zhao and how she helmed the film. As well, he brings up his desire to work with Zhao again for a future project.

It was shot and made, you really get, with the characters, it sort of felt like an independent movie at some points as well. But she’s amazing. Chloé, she’s another great one I would work with. At the drop of a hat again.

    Barry Keoghan

Ultimately though, it still remains unclear when the Eternals will return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One potential sign of hope comes from a few months ago when post-credit scene actor Patton Oswalt seemingly confirmed on the Today Show that a sequel being helmed by Chloe Zhao was in active development. It remains to be seen if this was something the actor spoke too soon about, but there in theory is certainly room in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe for the ancient deities to have an active presence in some form.

  • Stilt-Man Almost Appeared in ‘She-Hulk’

    Stilt-Man Almost Appeared in ‘She-Hulk’

More than any other MCU project to date, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law opened the doors for some of Marvel’s most obscure D-list characters. Leap-Frog made a memorable MCU debut. Emil Blonsky’s retreat introduced Man-Bull, Saracen, Porcupine, and El Aquila, none of whom would many many Top 1000 favorite Marvel characters lists. Regardless, She-Hulk gave those characters their moments in the spotlight along with introducing slightly more well-known characters like The Wrecking Crew and Mr. Immortal.

To no one’s surprise, those characters were just some of the many that the writer’s room of the series considered and while we’ll never know the entire list, writer Zeb Wells did name drop one character whose exclusion from the project might indicate an appearance in another project down the road.

“Yes, for sure. We went through a lot of them. I think Stilt-Man was probably thrown in there at one point. Saracen, he started off as someone else we couldn’t get for some reason. I think there is a character at Marvel called ‘The Matador’ and we couldn’t use him [laughs].”

One of Daredevil’s recurring foes, Stilt-Man is precisely the type of character who is more well-aligned with the sensibilities of the MCU than the Netflix Defenders-verse. If the character was indeed in the mix for She-Hulk, it’s possible, perhaps even likely, that he’ll be in the mix again. While primarily an adversary of Daredevil, the character also played a role in Armor Wars, which Marvel Studios is currently adapting as a feature film. So while he didn’t make the cut in She-Hulk, Stilt-Man’s dozens and dozens of fans can keep their fingers crossed he turns up down the road.

  • ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Tracking for $175 Million Domestic Opening

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Tracking for $175 Million Domestic Opening

With less than a month until Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters, the Marvel Studios sequel is hitting tracking in a big way. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther is on track for a $175 million opening stateside. That number is pretty in line with the projection provided by Box Office Pro earlier in the month – $180 million to $200 million.

That number is slightly lower than Black Panther‘s $202 million domestic debut in 2018. However, that was pre-pandemic, and the box office has struggled to regain that traction since. Thankfully, superhero films – and a few other blockbusters – have been least impacted by COVID-19, with films like The Batman and Spider-Man: No Way Home still managing to perform well at the box office. As the release of Wakanda Forever nears, it’s entirely possible estimates for the movie will continue to grow.

The first movie starred the excellent Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa and quickly went on to become a cultural phenomenon after being the first Marvel Studios film to feature a predominantly Black cast. The journey to Wakanda Forever has been a difficult one following the unexpected death of Boseman. Director Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the sequel with Joe Robert Cole, managed to craft a sequel that both honors Boseman’s legacy as T’Challa, while also pushing the franchise forward.

Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on Nov. 11th. Tickets are on sale now.

  • RUMOR: ‘1917’ Star George MacKay May Replace Ezra Miller As The Flash

RUMOR: ‘1917’ Star George MacKay May Replace Ezra Miller As The Flash

Backlash from all corners of the internet continue to persist as Warner Bros. stays on course for Ezra Miller‘s upcoming The Flash film. The actor recently pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ to a hefty case that may lead to two decades of prison time, something that will surely pose as a thorn to the Flash film and the future of DCEU no matter the outcome.

Today, a wild, wild, wild, wild rumor is making the rounds saying Miller may be replaced by 1917 star George MacKay after the film releases.

    https://twitter.com/GeekVibesNation/status/1583076946271166464?t=xUMzjV-chGiMGmYVX0HO_g&s=19

Whether this rumor is true or not, much of the Flash’s fate is uncertain until the film hits the marketing circuit. Miller has apologized publicly for their actions but many think that their apology does not equate to accountability as Miller will continue to see residuals in spite of the damage done.

  • Charlie Cox on the “Save Daredevil” Campaign and the Future of the Character

Charlie Cox on the “Save Daredevil” Campaign and the Future of the Character

Charlie Cox week continues full steam ahead. Whether it’s been discussing the new-found levity of the character, hyping Daredevil: Born Again co-star Vincent D’Onofrio or confusing fans and himself about the continuity of the character, fans have had their fair share of Cox this week and that’s ok. It’s become clear over the years that Daredevil fans love Cox. And in an interview with Marvel.com, the actor talked bout just how much he loves them back, including a certain segment that is near and dear to his heart.

When the news of the cancellation of Daredevil reached fans in November of 2018, a group of fans took it upon themselves to start an online campaign to get Cox back in the role. Over the years, the Save Daredevil campaign grew into a massive, highly organized undertaking who were able to celebrate their success when news broke that Cox was returning to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. There’s so much I want to say. Whatever happens to my career going forward from this point on, I owe most of it to the “Save Daredevil” campaign. That even when I had lost hope years ago, they did not, and they continued to campaign and support. And over the years, I’ve met many of them, and they’re such an enthusiastic, passionate crowd.

    Charlie Cox

While Marvel Studios worked hard to keep Cox’s return a secret in the past, the future is a wide-open book. Following his work on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, he’s expected to appear in Echo, though he’s played coy about that appearance so far, and then star in Marvel Studios most ambitious Disney Plus streaming series yet: Daredevil: Born Again. Demonstrating his trademark passion for the character, Cox explained that he can’t wait to get started on the new series, which he’s called “a whole new deal” for the character.

I’m so excited about the future. I can’t wait to get on the set from the first day of the new show. I’m already starting to train. As you know, I’m already starting to make plans in terms of living and training and having conversations with the writers and all of those things. So it’s starting to feel very real.

    Charlie Cox

Principal photography on Daredevil: Born Again is expected to begin sometime early in 2023 with some work set to be done in New York City. The actor had indicated that production is expected to both physically and mentally challenging, given the ambitiousness of the project, but the payoff should be great. With an 18-episode run, fans can expect to see a lot of Cox on Disney Plus throughout 2024.

  • Charlize Theron Says ‘The Old Guard 2’ is a “Big Movie”

Charlize Theron Says ‘The Old Guard 2’ is a “Big Movie”

An early saving grace of the pandemic was Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s superhero action film, The Old Guard. Based on a graphic novel by Greg Rucka and starring Charlize Theron in the lead role, the film chronicled the modern adventures of several centuries-old warriors, who survived for years with the help of unexplained regenerative healing abilities. The project was a surprise hit for Netflix, and one of the first major movies to release directly on streaming following the global shutdown. Less than a year after the first film’s debut, The Old Guard 2 was given the green light, with Theron and the majority of the cast set to return.

Speaking to Variety at a red carpet event for her latest movie, The School For Good And Evil, the former Mad Max star was asked how the cast and crew planned to up the ante for the sequel. Theron responded that, while all actors tend to claim the second movie is bigger than the last, she really means it when she says it. She elaborated:

You know, it’s so pretentious when an actor is like ‘It’s so much bigger! So much better!’, and I think you know that I’m not that person. It’s pretty impressive what we did because it felt very specific the first time around, and we wanted to kind of take it out of that. Like, what we let the audience think was this set world, we really kind of turned that on it’s head. So, I’m excited about that and we have a bigger cast and it feels more global. It’s a big movie.

    Charlize Theron

The Old Guard 2 will be helmed by Victoria Mahoney in her big-budget directorial debut, with Uma Thurman and Henry Golding joining an already stellar cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, KiKi Layne, and Theron. There is no current release date.

  • ‘Heroes’ Star Cast As ‘Doom Patrol’ Villain

‘Heroes’ Star Cast As ‘Doom Patrol’ Villain

It would appear Doom Patrol has found another baddie for its upcoming fourth season. According to a recent report from TVLine, former Heroes star Sendhil Ramamurthy has been cast in a recurring role as the villain ‘Mr. 104.’ The character, who will appear throughout Season 4, is being described as a “charming and mysterious man of many elements.” This will be the second time Ramamurthy portrays a DC Comics antagonist, following a stint as Ramsey Rosso, a.k.a. Bloodwork, on the sixth season of The CW’s The Flash. The actor won’t be pulling double duty, however, as that character was written off the show by the end of the season.

Mr. 104, while relatively obscure, does have some basis in the comics. Initially known as Mr. 103, the villain is a genius biochemist named Jonathan Dubrovny, who possesses the ability to transform his body – or parts of it – into any element he would like. He uses this power to commit crimes and eventually becomes a foe of the titular superhero team. This power set certainly matches the “man of many elements” portion of his television bio, and will likely not be a problem for the typically-quirky Doom Patrol to adapt.

Ramamurthy joins a cast that includes Brendan FraserDiane GuerreroJoivan WadeMatt Bomer, and April Bowlby. He won’t be the only new addition this season, as Twin Peaks veteran Madeline Zima takes on the role of comic character Space Case. Doom Patrol Season 4 will begin airing on HBO Max on December 8th.

  • Deadpool Wants to Join Marvel’s ‘Midnight Suns’

Deadpool Wants to Join Marvel’s ‘Midnight Suns’

Marvel’s next big video game is just around the corner, and everybody wants to be a part of it. Midnight Suns, the upcoming tactical role-playing game based on the comic book group of the same name, is releasing on most platforms on December 2nd and will feature a wide variety of playable characters for gamers to toy with when it does. The list of names included in the project ranges from classic supernatural members of the titular team, like Ghost Rider and Blade, to more popular Marvel heroes like Spider-Man and Wolverine. One famous character not currently involved, however, is Deadpool, and apparently, he would like to change that.

In a new video released by the official Midnight Suns Twitter account, temporarily being called #DeadpoolSuns, the Merc With a Mouth addresses fans and asks them to voice their desire for his inclusion in the game. While he has yet to be formally announced as playable, the cinematic footage being released by the project’s own account is a pretty good indicator the studio plans on introducing him to the roster sooner than later.

Midnight Suns will follow Marvel’s heroes as they combat Lilith, the Mother of Demons, after she’s awoken from eternal slumber by the evil forces of Hydra. If Deadpool does ever make an appearance in the game, it sounds like he might be portrayed by Nolan North, who previously voiced the character in his own solo adventure and multiple other animated projects. He would be one of many actors returning to their iconic role, with Yuri Lowenthal also reprising his role from Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Lyrica Okano getting a second chance at Nico Minoru after playing the character in Marvel Television’s Runaways.
