  • New Phoebe Waller-Bridge Series Heading to Prime Video

New Phoebe Waller-Bridge Series Heading to Prime Video

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is returning to Prime Video with a brand new series.

This makes for the long-awaited follow-up to the hit series, Fleabag, which Waller-Bridge both starred in and created. Details regarding the new project are sparse, however, Deadline reports production is expected to begin by the end of the year. This new series marks the first project Waller-Bridge has created under her three-year overall deal with Amazon Studios. That deal was originally announced in September 2019, around the time of Fleabag‘s second and final season.

Waller-Bridge was originally set to work on a Mr. and Mrs. Smith television series reboot, in which she would’ve starred alongside Donald Glover. However, the every-busy Waller-Bridge ultimately exited the project. Since the last season of Fleabag, Waller-Bridge has kept busy having executive produced the HBO series, Run, while also helping to co-wrote the most recent James Bond movie, No Time to Die.

She can next be seen in the latest Indiana Jones installment which wrapped production earlier this week.

  • Jack Harlow To Star in ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Reboot

Jack Harlow To Star in ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Reboot

20th Century is looking to reboot the classic film, White Men Can’t Jump, and it has brought on rapper Jack Harlow for a leading role.

The news comes courtesy of Deadline, with the outlet reporting Harlow landed the gig from his first-ever film audition. Calmatic is directing from a script by Kenya Barris and Doug Hall. The new film will be a new take on Ron Shelton’s 1992 film of the same name. That film starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes as Billy Hoyle and Sidney Deane. Harrelson’s Hoyle was a former college basketball player who made a living by hustling streetplayers, while Snipes’ Deane is a cocky and talented player who has lost to Hoyle twice already. While the duo has their differences, they ultimately come together to work toward a big score.

Harlow will take over Harrelson’s role, having wowed the filmmakers and executives, particularly Barris, during his first screen audition. With Harlow cast, the film is now being fast-tracked and the search for his co-star is now underway.

Blake Griffin, Ryan Kalil and Noah Weinstein executive produce through their Mortal Media banner, while Hall and E. Brian Dobbins will also serve as executive producers. A release date has not yet been unveiled.

  • RUMOR: ‘Man-Thing’ Halloween Special In Development at Disney Plus

RUMOR: ‘Man-Thing’ Halloween Special In Development at Disney Plus

In an era where Marvel Studios is bringing more and more characters to the big and small screens, it looks like another iconic Marvel character may soon be brought to life. ScreenGeek is reporting that Marvel Studios is currently developing a Man-Thing Halloween special for the Disney Plus streaming service. It is rumored that the special will emphasize the horror aspects of the character and turn the Man-Thing special into a full-on horror-themed project.

While Marvel Studios is reportedly looking for a big name to take on the role of Man-Thing, there is no indication at this time of who that might be. The only previous live-action adaptation of the character was the then-Sci Fi channel’s 2005 Man-Thing film, which received poor critical reviews. Fans are bound to be excited by the news of a Marvel Studios revival of the character after almost 20 years.

Man-Thing was introduced in 1971 in Savage Tales #1 and quickly gained popularity leading to his inclusion in other comics, as well as eventually landing his own comic series. Man-Thing centers on Dr. Ted Sallis, a biochemist who is transformed into a large, slow-moving humanoid swamp monster in the Florida Everglades.

While none of the specials have yet debuted, the special format–rather than a series–seems to be gaining momentum at Disney Plus. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives later this year and a Werewolf By Nightcentered special is also rumored to be in development.

It is also interesting that Marvel is rumored to be focused on making the Man-Thing special a horror-genred project. Horror is relatively new territory for Marvel Studios, but the upcmong Doctor Starnge in the Multiverse of Madness is set to include horror elements from director Sam Raimi. While both Moon Knight and the rumored Werewolf By Night special are also strong contenders to bring darker elements to the MCU.

  • Latest ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer Full Look at Firefly’s Costume

Latest ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer Full Look at Firefly’s Costume

Just recently, we got our first look at Brendan Fraser‘s costume as Firefly in HBO Max’s Batgirl film. Yet, it was missing quite a few parts. Luckily, it seems that they have finally assembled the full costume, as a new batch of leaked set photos has found their way online offering our best look yet at the iconic DC villain with his full gear on. What is interesting is that this design seems to skip his wings completely. As such, the arsonist might be grounded throughout the film.

The set photo does offer a great look, and the design has this really enticing steampunk aesthetic. There always is a chance that his costume may evolve throughout the film’s runtime, especially as he is seemingly the only villain that Batgirl might face in the film. The previous set of photos did tease her chasing down Firefly on a firetruck. So, perhaps he has a team working for him.

We don’t know if Firefly is a villain through and through, as there might be more to this story. He still seems like he has his arsonist tendencies from the comics, but they always change things in these projects. There’s still some time before the film finds its way unto HBO Max, and who knows what other set photos might find their way online that reveal more.

  • ‘Loki’s Head Writer on Creating a Dialogue-Heavy Marvel Series

‘Loki’s Head Writer on Creating a Dialogue-Heavy Marvel Series

Loki is quite a different kind of series from previous entries in the franchise. While there is some action to enjoy, it is mostly a dialogue-heavy storyline. We spend a lot of time with Loki, Sylvia, Morbius, and everyone else talking as the story unravels. Aided by the unique atmosphere, it offered a very different take on what you’d expect from a Marvel series and that was something head writer Michael Waldron intended to do.

During a panel discussion with the rest of the Loki cast and team, he talked about how their dialogue-heavy focus was intentional to focus on what the trickster god is known for. As such, they wanted to show him trying to haggle his way out of conversations, which did lead to some delightful moments throughout the series run. As he points out:

One of Loki’s superpowers is his ability to talk his way out of any situation, talk his way into any situation. You want to watch Superman fly, so I wanted to watch Loki talk. And so because this was a show — because we had six hours — that was the most exciting thing to me. We get to take a villain from an action movie franchise and have these dialogue-heavy scenes that feel like prestige television.

    Michael Waldron

That is also a reason why they had quite a few long takes on the project. Tom Hiddleston pointed out that Owen Wilson approached him comparing the project to a play. Director Kate Herron added that the scale of this project felt like three Marvel films being tackled due to how much content they could put together in its six-hour runtime. They certainly delivered and offered a very unique take on what it means to be a Marvel series.

  • Tom Hiddleston Talks About the Opportunity With ‘Loki’ Season 2’s New Direction

Tom Hiddleston Talks About the Opportunity With ‘Loki’ Season 2’s New Direction

We’re still anticipating any news on what the second season of Loki has in store for us. Tom Hiddleston will return as the trickster god after landing in what may be a new version of the Time Variance Authority, as no one seems to remember him. He was forced to leave his multiversal Variant Sylvie, played amazingly by Sophia Di Martino, behind who ended up unleashing the multiverse. During a panel hosted by the Royal Television Society, he and the rest of the Disney+ series cast got a chance to look back at the series, where Hiddleston briefly talked about being “a temporary torchbearer” for the role, as he went on to say:

I’ve always thought that. It’s a great role. It’s an archetype, the trickster god, the agent of chaos. I’m just here interpreting that for the time being. Loki has been here for centuries and will be here for centuries more and I’m just stepping into that silhouette for now.

    Tom Hiddleston

Even if he talked about the temporary time with the character, he did offer a little tease of why they decided to leave viewers with that cliffhanger and what the direction may be going into the second season.

This idea of somehow the [Time Variance Authority] confronting Loki with the shape-shifting nature of his identity and asking him ‘Who are you?’ I found it a new avenue to explore with this character I’ve been playing for a while. It felt original. It didn’t feel like we were repeating.

    Tom Hiddleston

The ending certainly kept people on their toes and probably left quite the impression with viewers. Everyone he had built a connection with over time has now forgotten who he is. Sylvie is also left in a dark spot after stabbing He Who Remains, and we don’t know if she’ll find a way back to the TVA or remain there. It certainly is going to be a new direction for the series and here’s hoping the wait isn’t too much longer.

  • Charlie Cox Shares His Thoughts on a Potential PG ‘Daredevil’ Revival on Disney+

Charlie Cox Shares His Thoughts on a Potential PG ‘Daredevil’ Revival on Disney+

Disney+ didn’t waste any time to announce that the former Netflix shows created by Marvel TV were making their way to the streaming service. It was quite the announcement, as not only did it imply more adult-themed content for the streaming service, but also further pushed the return of these characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil’s Charlie Cox made his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home and was quite excited with the former Netflix series joining Disney+ with a cheeky comic reference in an interview with ComicBook.com.

This was actually when this news that you talked about came out, I was texting with some of the guys from the show and the text I wrote was, ‘Born Again.’

    Charlie Cox

He was also asked about the future of his character, such as a potential PG version of the character even after the darker take on Netflix. While he does point out that he’d prefer the darker stories and that his character isn’t the same as Spider-Man, he is still open to the idea and thinks Marvel could make it work.

I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that. I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it.

    Charlie Cox

Their next Disney+ series is offering a promising darker take within that universe while also sticking to a parental control-free rating with Moon Knight. While the series might not be as dark as the previous entries, it doesn’t seem like they are open to the possibility. Deadpool has also been confirmed to become an R-rated project, which might hint that Marvel Studios is exploring beyond their PG fare. For now, it’s just fun to speculate.

  • REVIEW: ‘How I Met Your Father’ Episode 8 – “The Perfect Shot”

REVIEW: ‘How I Met Your Father’ Episode 8 – “The Perfect Shot”

The race for Sophie’s love is full steam ahead but now things are murky. We follow her as she continues her relationship hunting and further develops what she built with Drew. Yet, things take a turn in episode 8, as we see a relationship bloom rather unexpectedly. So, without further ado, let’s just dive in.

The latest episode does start off slow, looking to be a typical sitcom story in the same vein as the previous one. Yet, as it progressed, however, I liked more and more of it. Random civilians on the streets are now getting involved in comedic moments, much like How I Met Your Mother. The silly humor was captivating whereas in some previous episodes it could get a little cringy. The character’s situations this time around were far more relatable, as instead of the usual pairings, this episode certainly changed some things up.

Last week, I complained that for being in a relationship, Valentina and Charlie hadn’t had a lot of development ever since their heart to heart earlier in the season. Luckily, this week was different. While still presenting their relationship as a comedic duo, the two still managed to progress in this episode as Charlie begins to do things for Valentina that aren’t selfish. Compared to when we first saw him with his higher-than-thou attitude, it’s nice to see him break out of his shell more and more, especially when it comes to his love.

Sid and Ellen have paired up this episode, as they attempted to cover for Jesse with his ex-girlfriend who has suddenly appeared. The two haven’t been majorly involved up until now, but as they are both the closest to Jesse–being his sister and best friend–it was nice to see them together to help her out. Speaking of his ex, it’s great to see her in the picture for some added tension going into the last two episodes, but I’ll dive deeper into that later on.

The largest moments from the episode, of course, surrounded Sophie. But this time it did not only involve Drew. We know that Jesse has had a crush on Sophie since day one, but up until now, the two have agreed neither of them is ready for something serious and that they are better off as friends. However, this episode may put a knife in those plans. As Sophie suffers from drama with Drew, Jesse seizes the opportunity. No further spoilers on that, however.

With Drew and Jesse both competing for Sophie now, and on more equal footing than before, Meredith, Jesse’s ex showing up, and multiple other suitors still in play, the final two episodes are definitely being set up for something big. I have said before that Ian, a gentleman that Sophie had an immediate connection with in the first episode, is definitely in play still and I feel he might make his return. I don’t see why they would have set him up with Sophie if they weren’t going to do something with him.

Considering they did not know they were being renewed for a second season until after production was already over, I’m betting we see that comeback sooner rather than later. Having three established relationships in play, drama in at least two of them, and plenty of more possibly fathers out there, the race is on and more confusing than ever. This emotional attachment is definitely what the show needed, as it was what made How I Met Your Father so popular during its run time.

The finale is just two weeks away, and I currently believe How I Met Your Father is on track for an unforgettable end to its first season. I currently cannot wait to see how all of these loose plotlines come together for what’s looking like a major decision for Sophie, and a possibly amazing twist for fans. The show needs to end on an iconic moment, as it is going up against How I Met Your Mother‘s original conclusion with Robin and Ted getting together, as well as the unfortunate break-up between Marshall and Lilly. That moment would set the tone for the entire rest of the show, with those iconic moments coming into play multiple times per season. It’ll surely keep viewers coming back week to week. Hopefully, How I Met Your Father will be able to deliver, and so far with what has been set up, I believe they can.

  • Netflix Renews ‘The Cuphead Show’ for Season 2

Netflix Renews ‘The Cuphead Show’ for Season 2

The Cuphead Show was just recently released on Netflix, which introduced the world to an animated take on the video game inspired by Fleischer-era animated projects. Its iconic blend of modern and classic animation made it a standout on the service, and luckily Netflix saw the potential with the confirmation that Season 2 is on the horizon. Not only that, but it looks like they are already eyeing a release this summer, which hints that they’ve already been hard at work on the next batch of episodes for some time now.

The game was revolutionary when it was first released, as it not only offered a challenging game but also wrapped it in a very iconic packaging. The boss rush style was perfect to include a variety of characters that bend and move as some might recall from old animated series like Betty Boop. An animated series seemed like a no-brainer at the time and it was great to see Netflix’s attempt not only pay tribute to it – even some of the jokes had that classic styling – but also add some modern flourishes.

The cast was great, and while not binding itself down with an overarching narrative, there are some nice connecting episodes to keep your attention. It’ll be interesting to see how the second season builds on the end of the first, which did introduce the character of Chalice, who got Cuphead and Mugman into quite the heap of trouble. So, we’ll see how long their criminal record will truly stick with them.

  • RUMOR: ’Manifest’ Season 4 to Debut in November

RUMOR: ’Manifest’ Season 4 to Debut in November

Production is well underway on the fourth and final season of Manifest. The former NBC series will move to Netflix for its final outing this year. Details regarding the latest season have been sparse, however, we may now know when it will premiere. It seems that famous author Stephen King is quite the fan, as he threw out a question on when we might expect the series to make its return. Showrunner Jeff Rake obliged and shared that he’s hearing November is when Season 4 will release. However, nothing is yet set in stone.

As the showrunner is unsure about the exact release, there’s always a chance that it might shift as we near its eventual announcement but it does give us an indicator of when we might expect it to release on Netflix. The series originally premiered on NBC back in 2018, which explored the story of passengers of a commercial airliner that suddenly reappear after over five years. After its cancelation, the series grew in popularity after hitting Netflix which led to its renewal. The upcoming fourth season will consist of 20 episodes and see the return of its all-star cast consisting of Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, and more.
