  • First Trailer for Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’ Released

First Trailer for Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’ Released

Amazon Prime has had a fantastic year with its superhero content. The Boys had a very successful second season and is already entering production for its third. Now, they are adding a brand new superhero-based series in the form of Invincible. The series is currently eyeing a 2021 release with no official release date named. It is based on Robert Kirkman‘s comic of the same name, which concluded in February 2018. After a long wait, we finally got our hands on the first trailer, which teases the father-son dynamic between Mark Grayson and his father.

We also got our first series synopsis, which teases the dark history of Omni-Man and what will be at the center of this story:

Invincible is an adult animated superhero show that revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

This series has quite the amazing cast lined-up. In addition to the our father-son duo, it also includes Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jason Mantzoukas and many more. The series is being produced by Skybound with Kirkman, Simon Racioppa, David Alpert, and Catherine Winder acting as executive producers. Amazon Prime is also the perfect place for a superhero show trying to tap into darker themes. It can build on the success of The Boys and fill the void left while everyone waits for the third season. Invincible is a promising addition to their streaming library and can offer another refreshing story at a world filled with superheroes.

  • ‘The Boys’ Season 3 Eyeing Early 2021 Production Start

‘The Boys’ Season 3 Eyeing Early 2021 Production Start

With its second season just about to wrap up, The Boys looks to be eyeing an early production start for its next season. Of course, Amazon won’t waste any time, as the show has become a smash hit for the streaming service. According to Forbes, The Boys was the first streaming show to break into Nielsen’s top ten streaming shows as a non-Netflix series. It came in at third place with 819 million minutes streamed. It is only beat out by Lucifer and Cobra Kai. The shows highly anticipated third season received an early renewal prior to the current seasons’ debut back in September. Now, they aim to begin production in early 2021.

The meta superhero drama is set to begin filming on February 12th in Toronto and wrap around August 12th. The upcoming season will introduce Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. He is one of the first superheroes to hit the scene during World War Two. We haven’t heard any other casting news, so they might roll out once they film. Shawn Ashmore‘s addition was quite a surprise in the later half of the current season, so they might have quite a few secrets under lock and key. For now, The Boys’ second season will finish up its eight-episode run this week. The highly anticipated finale “What I Know” will surely blow many fans minds (pun intended).

  • ‘THE BOYS’ Spin-Off Fast-Tracked by Amazon

‘THE BOYS’ Spin-Off Fast-Tracked by Amazon

It looks like The Boys second season was a massive hit. According to Variety, Amazon is currently speeding up the development of a spin-off. The series has been out barely three weeks. Yet, the season is already a hit for the streaming service. According to Amazon, the second season is their most-watched global launch. Its audience has grown by 89% since the last one. They had so much confidence they already renewed the show before it premiered.

The spin-off will feature America’s exclusive superhero college. Of course, Vought International runs it. It will continue the main series R-rating by focusing on a generation of hormonal and competitive superheroes. They certainly tease that many different boundaries will be broken. They also describe The Hunger Games as an inspiration. Looks like not everyone is going to make it through their college debut alive. Craig Rosenberg is currently set as showrunner, who was a writer on the original series. Eric Kripke will return as an Executive Producer alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver

It sounds like a fun concept. The show already seems to break every rule there is. So, exploring teenagers in this world might be even crazier than before.  The Hunger Games inspiration is interesting. It will be interesting if the war is during the school year, or they build up to a major event at the end of the season. We could get the Anime trope of a tournament arc in our American superhero show. Also, it will probably not shy away from its political angle. We will see a lot of comments on college culture. It will be a crazy ride. Luckily, we still have a few weeks of The Boys to go to tie us over.

  • COVID May Cost ‘The Boys’ Third Season Jeffrey Dean Morgan

COVID May Cost ‘The Boys’ Third Season Jeffrey Dean Morgan

It is only a few days away from the release of The Boys‘ second season. The third season has already been announced weeks ago. The show has been quite the highlight for Amazon’s line-up. We got a more bleak look at what it means if we live in a world with super powered individuals. An interesting aspect of the show is that they try to use each season to also connect it to real happenings in the world. This was revealed by showrunner Eric Kripke in an interview with Total Film and Gamesradar.

The second season will explore xenophobia and the influence of authority figures. This way we can see what would happen if our own problems are elevated when superhumans are involved. As such, the third season might take some influences from our current predicament with COVID. Kripke does hint at it potentially showing up metaphorically in some form.

I can tell that season three, without being specifically about COVID— we’re having a lot of conversations about the government response to COVID here in the States. And my guess is, you’ll see that metaphorically show up in one way or another in season three. It’s a fortunate opportunity for me to have a show that I can, you know, talk about the world. I have a place to put all my frustration.

One last reveal he confirms in regards to COVID is how it might influence their casting.  They have been actively trying to get Jeffrey Dean Morgan to join the cast. He is still a major recurring character over on The Walking Dead. So, as long as the two-week quarantine rule exists, they can’t have him just fly over for a few days of shooting. Hopefully, if it doesn’t work out for this season that he can show up in the fourth season. Morgan is always a great addition to any show.

  • Rumor: Kaya Scodelario may be in Amazon’s ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’

Rumor: Kaya Scodelario may be in Amazon’s ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’

I know, I know… you’re probably asking what am I doing writing a Lord of The Rings piece when you’re used to seeing me write about MCU stuff? Well, you may have noticed Murphy’s Multiverse has been doing some very important growing by adding more writers and an equally important expanding of interests lately. This is because, as Charles has said, it’s truly meant to be a “multiverse” here. The writers are encouraged to cover what they care about most, not simply as “scoopers” or as reporters, but as fans.

As a pretty much lifelong fan of Lord of the Rings, one of my most anticipated projects coming up, aside from any Marvel films and series, is the television series based on the books that’s being produced by Amazon. So I plan to cover that series from time to time here.

First up, some fan detective work over at @theoneringnet Twitter has uncovered evidence that actress Kaya Scodelario (most noted from The Maze Runner and the Pirates of the Carribean franchise) just might have part in the new Lord of the Rings TV series.

Theonering.net Twitter account speculated Kaya was most likely traveling to New Zealand due to the 27 hour trip from UK where, of course, Lord of the Rings is filming. Other posts on Kaya’s Instagram just a few weeks earlier seemed to point to her planning to leave the UK, moving, and not returning to “Blighty” until next year some time.

Supporting this theory, was a post by Instagram user @kayascodnews who shared a very interesting image that Kaya had posted and then, even more interestingly, deleted, of a going away image made up by some of her friends.

Scodelario certainly has some Elfish qualities about her and bears a striking resemblance to Arwen (played by Liv Tyler in LOTR), leading some to speculate she could be playing Arwen’s mother Celebrían. But this is all of course fan theory, especially without knowing for sure that she’s actually in this new Lord of the Rings series.

And while I agree, I certainly think she could be in the LOTR series, she could instead simply be moving there early to eventually work on the Resident Evil reboot she is believed to have signed up to do (as first reported by Daniel Richtman back in early April via his Patreon, and picked up by other sites). But there has also been no word on where and when Resident Evil will film as of late. At least not that I have found. So a statement from @theoneringnet that that movie will be filming in New Zealand next year appears to be just rumor as well for now. Although again, the films probable star appearing to take a very very long plane trip with her family and move somewhere far far away for an extended period, would certainly seem to indicate she is filming something in New Zealand or Australia. Whether it is Lord of The Rings, which has already been filming without her, or Resident Evil which as of April was meant to begin filming in June, or something else, is unclear. It was reported earlier this year that the film was planned to be in Canada or Serbia when it does start (also previously reported by Daniel and other sites).

But of course, in this crazy time, and a pandemic to deal with, clearly plans can change, and a big budget film once planned to begin in June in Canada or Serbia, could certainly change to a safer seeming New Zealand a bit later in the year.

So while I am very intrigued by the evidence, I’m afraid the jury is still out with me on whether or not Kaya Scodelario is in The Lord of The Rings series. I assume we might get a better idea from her Instagram or the trades any day now tho.

  • Jensen Ackles Joins ‘The Boys’ Third Season

Jensen Ackles Joins ‘The Boys’ Third Season

Looks like The Boys is already prepping its third season. A few months back, audition tapes confirmed that they were trying to cast the character Soldier Boy. He is described as the original superhero. His time in World War II made him the first heroic celebrity and an icon in American culture. The character was even teased by showrunner Eric Kripke back in November.

The character was originally meant as a parody of Marvel’s Captain America. So, the above ad playing on Rogers’ involvement with propaganda is a great touch. In the leaked audition tapes, actors David S. Lee and Noah Bean were auditioning for the role. Well, it looks like Jensen Ackles got the role, as he revealed in a hilarious Instagram post.

This isn’t his first time working with Kripke, as he was the creator of Supernatural back when it started in 2005. In a short interview, the showrunner teases how Ackles will balance the humor and danger of the role. This is a fantastic addition to the cast. The show has stood out through its unique take on a world filled with superheroes. They do confirm he will play the first holder of that title. This opens up the question if we will also see the appearance of his successors from the comics. There is a good chance they might combine different versions of the character. Hopefully, we might get some teases of his role as the second season premiers on September 4th.
