Lizze Broadway Joins Amazon’s ‘The Boys’ Spinoff

In 2019, the first season of Amazon’s hit series, The Boys, was released. The series quickly became a smash hit, gaining critical acclaim and praise from fans alike. A second season got promptly ordered and before it even aired, Amazon already greenlit a third season. With the raging success of one show comes the potential of expanding the franchise. In September, Amazon revealed that the show’s team had begun working on a spin-off focusing on young heroes. Now with the show on the fast track, we’ve already got our first bit of casting.

Not too long ago, the first casting details got revealed for the upcoming series, which gave us breakdowns of the series leads. After a long wait, we finally got the first casting announcement. Actress Lizze Broadway has been cast as Emma, a hero looking to escape the shadow of her mother and finally make a human connection. Broadway‘s character spent the better part of her childhood traveling with her mother, with whom she had a rocky relationship.

The upcoming spinoff to The Boys currently has no set release date and the rest of the cast has yet to be unveiled. The upcoming third season of the boys however is currently in production and will see the return of all of your favorite terrible people that are just trying to make the world an even bloodier place.

UPDATE: First ‘THE BOYS’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Starlight’s Ex-Boyfriend Supersonic

UPDATE: Well, it turns out that there is a good reason we wondered why the costume was so different from last season’s tease. @TOFilming_EM has revealed that it wasn’t Jensen Ackles’ stand-in but rather Miles Gaston Villanueva, who is playing Starlight’s ex-boyfriend, Supersonic.

The citizens of Toronto are treated to their first big film premiere in almost a year. The only downside is the movie features Homelander in the lead role. Photos from the Canadian set of Amazon’s hit series, The Boys, have begun circulating online. They reveal the production team has dressed up the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to look like a Vought-sponsored movie theater. The fictional movie debuting at the MTCC is Dawn of the Seven, the series’ parody of Zack Snyder‘s Batman v. Superman. It’s the same film they were filming throughout the latter half of the last season. It looks like an old yet new hero is attending the premiere, as Soldier Boy, the WWII-era Captain America homage played by Jensen Ackles, arrives all dressed on set up in red-white-and-blue. The set photos mark our first look at the actor in the costume:

Luckily, we also get a shot from the front that gives us a better look at his overall design:

The images appear to be of Ackles‘ stand-in rather than the actual actor. Nonetheless, they give us a good idea of what the character will look like fully suited up. Showrunner Eric Kripke appears to be taking a page out of the MCU’s book with the design as he is opting for a combination of Avengers tactical look combined with some spandex from comics. It is also important to note that this is a different design from the Soldier Boy statue that got teased in the previous season. That monument gave the original version a classic soldier vibe. This detail means that Ackles‘ hero either updated his fashion sense over the decades, or the show might incorporate the comic twist involving multiple men taking on the Soldier Boy mantle. Whatever direction they go, it’s going to be interesting.

  • Amazon Developing ‘Hellsing’ Adaptation with ‘John Wick’s Derek Kolstad

Amazon Developing ‘Hellsing’ Adaptation with ‘John Wick’s Derek Kolstad

Western adaptations of anime have been all the rage. Netflix has been working on a live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda‘s magnum opus, One Piece. They’ve already started casting for the upcoming Cowboy Bebop adaptation. Well, it looks like Amazon Studios also wants to enter the game, as Deadline has just revealed that they are developing an adaptation of Kouta Hirano‘s Hellsing. The Japanese action-horror franchise will be spearheaded by John WIck‘s screenwriter, Derek Kolstad. He gave the following statement on tackling a dream project:

Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it. And when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream.

Shōnen Gahōsha published the original series, which ran from 2006 until 2012. The story follows the tale of Alucard, who lies to serve Integra Hellsing, the leader of The Hellsing Organization. They aid England in protecting them from supernatural threats, such as vampires, and ghouls. The viewer’s surrogate is ex-police officer Seras Victoria, who embraces her new future as a vampire.

Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger are producing alongside Mike Callaghan and Reuben Liber. Derek Kolstad has recently penned the latest entry of the John Wick franchise, Parabellum. I am excited to see this adaptation, as the 2001 version of Hellsing was my introduction to the world of anime. It only ran for thirteen episodes and didn’t adapt the later chapters of the manga. It wasn’t until Hellsing Ultimate that they would tell the entire story. The supernatural franchise combined with John Wick‘s

  • REPORT: Sony’s Spider-Man Spin-Off ‘Silk’ Adds Sang Kyu Kim as Showrunner

REPORT: Sony’s Spider-Man Spin-Off ‘Silk’ Adds Sang Kyu Kim as Showrunner

All eyes are on the title reveal for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Well, Peter Parker isn’t the only webhead on Sony’s mind, as some details have made their way online. Around six months ago, it got revealed that a live-action series was in development for Silk. It would introduce the world to the character of Cindy Moon. She is new to Marvel comics, as she made her debut back in 2014, as Peter uncovered that he wasn’t the only one bit by the radioactive spider.

She even got her series and had an important role in the Spider-Verse event. At the time, we already knew that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were developing the series as part o their five-year deal alongside Korean-American writer Lauren Moon. The Illuminerdi may have gotten their hands on the first details for the series. It is in early development as an Amazon Prime series. They are currently casting a Korean-American, who is between the age of 19 and 29-years-of-age. It seems they have approached Adeline Rudolph for the role, but there have been no talks so far.

The first description also teases the series story following her early beginnings in crime-fighting, who has a knack for 80s and 90s pop culture. Not just that, they also have added Sang Kyu Kim as showrunner and executive producer for the series. Kim has quite the filmography as a producer on series, such as Jupiter’s LegacyAltered CarbonDesignated Survivor, and The Walking Dead. It will be interesting to see if the series will tie into Venom and the MCU Spider-Man films or if it will be its project moving forward.

  • RUMOR: First Casting Details for Untitled ‘The Boys’ Spin-Off Revealed

RUMOR: First Casting Details for Untitled ‘The Boys’ Spin-Off Revealed

Amazon released the first season of The Boys in 2019. It’s based on a comic that I don’t think too many were familiar with at the time. The series quickly became a smash hit, gaining critical acclaim and praise from fans alike. A second season promptly got ordered, and even before it aired, a third was reportedly on the way. With the raging success of one show comes the incredible potential for more from the brand. In September, Amazon revealed that the show’s team had begun working on a spin-off focusing on young heroes. This group would be in training to one day join Vought. The series got put on the fast track, and Illuminerdi got their hands on our first casting details for a total of eight characters.

The university will have a wide variety of attendants. It will feature the 22-year-old Golden Boy, who has thermonuclear powers, who is fighting the pressure of being called the next big hero. Andrea, or Polarity, the black sophomore student who has a co-dependent relationship with his father, a former B-list hero. The Asian-American twins Mark and Jordan Lee have very different lives. Mark is a former party animal that fell in love with someone that is trying to support them, while Jordan is falling into a spiral filled with drugs, sex, and alcohol.

There is also the former child star Britney, who got caught up in a drug scandal. She is trying to use the university to revive her career. Emma, on the other hand, is looking for a human connection. She lives under the shadow of her mother, who was once a renowned superhero. Last but not least, there is Marie Moreau. The 18-year-old black woman is the Caribbean’s first and only superhero. She has to live with a lot of weight on her shoulders, as she carries “the pride of her nation and her family’s financial future.”

The series will most likely take some inspiration from the G-Men. They were a spoof of the X-Men within the universe of The Boys. The series currently has no release date, and production on the project is being fast-tracked. It means that the casting could be imminent. The third season of The Boys has already begun production and is currently filming in Toronto, with set photos giving us our very first look at Jensen Ackles‘ Solider Boy.

  • ‘SUPERNATURAL’ Production Team To Reunite For ‘THE BOYS’

‘SUPERNATURAL’ Production Team To Reunite For ‘THE BOYS’

It looks like The Boys’ third season is turning into one big Supernatural reunion party. Eric Kripke, who has served as showrunner for both series, is bringing on a group of old friends for the next season of Amazon’s hit superhero show. Meredith GlynnDavid Reed, and Jim Michaels have all boarded The Boys as executive producers. Glynn and Michaels both served that position before on Supernatural, while Reed is getting promoted from his script coordinator job on the former CW thriller. They join fellow Supernatural alumni Phil Sgriccia and Christopher Lennertz. They worked on The Boys since its inaugural season. Kripke has not been shy about re-teaming with old partners, having already cast former Supernatural star, Jensen Ackles, as The Boys’ newest “supe”, Soldier Boy.

Filming for the newest season began only days ago, with lead actors Karl Urban and Jack Quaid confirming the production start on their Instagram accounts. Aside from the new plotline involving Soldier Boy, not much has gotten revealed about the upcoming season of The Boys. However, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume fans will be getting more violence and British slang we’ve come to love. The show will also be getting a spin-off, set at an American college for young superheroes, soon. That series will have Craig Rosenberg as its showrunner, but only time will tell if Kripke and Amazon find a way to include a few Supernatural names there as well. After all, that show lasted for a whole 15 seasons, and if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

  • Amazon Developing a Live-Action ‘G.I. Joe’ Series

    Amazon Developing a Live-Action ‘G.I. Joe’ Series

Hollywood is trying to revive the G.I. Joe franchise once again. Snake Eyes will be the first characters to get that second chance, as a solo film is still in production. The project got hit with a massive delay due to the ongoing pandemic. It will release October 22nd and will introduce multiple classic characters, such as Snake eyes, Baroness, Scarlett, and Storm Shadow. Now it seems the G.I. Joe universe is expanding. This time, it is in the form of a live-action series that will follow another popular character.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Amazon has begun development on a series following the character of Lady Jaye. The series is set to be produced by Paramount TV Studios, Entertainment One, and Skydance TV. The project currently has no talent attached to it and still in the early phases of development. The showrunner of Netflix’s DaredevilErik Oleson, will act as showrunner for the series. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura will also co-produce alongside Oleson. The series will reportedly take place in the same world as the upcoming Snake Eyes film.

It is only the first in many projects to come from Hasbro, as they are reviving their classic toy lines with multimedia deals. The studio is hard at work developing new films for the Transformers and Power Rangers franchise, straying from past adaptions and softly rebooting many. It will be interesting to see how they continue to expand these different franchises and even pull off an Avengers: Endgame style crossover. We’ve seen it in the comics witch Transformers and G.I. Joe, so it would be a fun surprise later down the line.

  • Donald Glover Leaves FX For Multi-Year Contract with Amazon

Donald Glover Leaves FX For Multi-Year Contract with Amazon

Fans of superstar Donald Glover often find themselves discussing his long list of accomplishments. It looks like they can add another multi-year contract to that list. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Glover has exited his previous arrangement with Disney and FX to enter a contract with Amazon, which is reportedly worth eight-figures. The deal includes multiple projects, which will air as part of a content channel that is dedicated to Glover. His brother Stephen Glover, frequent writing partner and co-creator of Atlanta, also signed over to Amazon as part of the deal. The first content to come out of the signing will most likely be a new Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot, which was announced via Instagram only days ago. Glover will be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who skyrocketed to stardom with Amazon’s hit Fleabag.

In addition to starring in various projects, the actor-musician will also produce several new series. One of these is in early development, which will go by Hive. The show will center around a Beyonce-like figure and includes former First Daughter Malia Obama as part of the writing staff. Hive‘s showrunner will be Janine Nabers, who is best known for her work on HBO’s Watchmen.

Luckily for fans, this move will not affect the fan-favorite show, Atlanta. The Emmy-award-winning FX series already got renewed for two more seasons. The third season will enter production in March. It’s been almost three years since the second season aired in 2018. Luckily, Glover took to his social media recently to ensure viewers that writing for the future of the show is going very well. The next seasons are aiming to air back-to-back.

  • Robert Kirkman Confirms ‘INVINCIBLE’ Movie is Still Happening

Robert Kirkman Confirms ‘INVINCIBLE’ Movie is Still Happening

Ever thought that two Invincible properties are better than one? Me neither, but apparently franchise creator Robert Kirkman and Universal have taken this to heart. Despite a highly anticipated animated adaptation of the Image comic series being only a handful of weeks away, Kirkman revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the long-gestating live-action movie is also still in the works. The announcement of the Amazon series had led to many wondering if the film adaptation was dead. It seemed unusual to produce such a high-quality animated series and then follow it up with a live-action adaptation.

There is the fear that it would just be repetitive. If I can watch a long-form version of the story, why invest the money to watch it in theaters again? According to Kirkman, there will be enough differences so that they can co-exist and complement each other. He does make the comparison between the Spider-Man live-action and Into the Spider-Verse animated film. The problem is that the stories told are very distinct from each other, so perhaps the live-action adaptation might have a unique take on the original story.

The live-action version got announced in 2017. The film will be produced by the creative pairing of Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg. The duo has previously found success with comedic works such as Superbad and The Interview. On another note, Rogan is also set to be a part of the concurrently produced animated series. He will be voicing Allen the Alien, so he is also involved with its production in some form. Kirkman did confirm that the film is in very early stages so it won’t release for a few years.

  • Amazon Prime’s ‘INVINCIBLE’ Release Date Finally Revealed

Amazon Prime’s ‘INVINCIBLE’ Release Date Finally Revealed

It’s been nearly three years since we first learned Robert Kirkman‘s popular superhero comic, Invincible, would be getting an animated adaptation on Amazon Prime. After months of exciting casting announcements and still-image teasers, we finally landed a release date. During a live stream, the series creator revealed that the first three episodes will release on March 26th. It was the perfect timing, as they were celebrating the anniversary of the first issue’s release. After the initial bundle of content hits streaming, you will be able to watch new episodes weekly until the first season concludes on April 30th. The reveal included a brand new clip from the show until the next trailer releases.

Invincible will be the third series adaptation of a Kirkman work. It follows in the footsteps of the massively successful The Walking Dead, which made its debut back in 2010. The series has grown into a media juggernaut with the release of various spin-offs and plenty more planned in the coming years. Six years later, an adaptation of Outcast was also released, which got canceled in 2018. After their success, it is time for some superhero action, as we follow the young Mark Grayson living under the shadow of his father, who is the most powerful superhero on the planet.

Like AMC’s powerhouse, the series offers a stellar cast of characters worthy of a spin-off. The animated series features Steven Yeun in the title role. He is joined by J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Mark Hamill, Seth Rogan, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, and Zachary Quintom, to name only a fraction of the expansive talent list. It remains to be seen if Invincible finds the same kind of traction, but a cast stacked to the brim most definitely won’t hurt its chances.
