  • New Details on a Pair of ‘Born Again’ Roles Could Point a Tragic Ending for One Major Returning Character

New Details on a Pair of ‘Born Again’ Roles Could Point a Tragic Ending for One Major Returning Character

In 1998, Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada teamed up for an absolutely insane eight-episode Daredevil arc published under the Marvel Knights banner. That arc, known as “Guardian Devil”, took Matt Murdock on one hell of a ride that included brief team-ups with Black Widow and Doctor Strange as well as run-ins with Mephisto and Mysterio. Though Mysterio is revealed to be the mastermind behind the series of unfortunate events that befall Matt throughout the eight issues, it’s one of the most dangerous villains in his rogues gallery who does the majority of the damage: Bullseye.

After going on a bit of a murderous rampage, the psycho killer squares off with Daredevil in the Clinton Mission Shelter where Karen Page finds herself involved in their fight. After Bullseye shoots Matt to gain the upper hand, Karen makes a deal to save Matt’s life but–as you’re certainly not shocked to find out–Bullseye reneges and as he’s making his exit takes his kill shot by launching one of Matt’s clubs at his chest. However, the projectile from the man that doesn’t miss found its home in the chest of Karen who sacrificed herself for Matt. It was a tragic and shocking turn of events in 1999’s Daredevil Vol. 2 #5 and now some new details about the roles of some returning characters could hint at it possibly being adapted into Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again.

During a major creative overhaul on Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel Studios made the decision to retcon Marvel Television’s Netflix series into the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. As a result, new showrunner Dario Scardapane and new directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were able to directly connect the new show to the events of the three seasons of Daredevil. Part of that meant bringing back even more familiar faces from the popular series including Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll and, most recently, Wilson Bethel. If you’ve yet to watch Netflix’s Daredevil, that means Foggy Nelson, Karen Page and Benjamin Pointdexter, aka Bullseye, are now set to appear in Daredevil: Born Again and a pair of reports has indicated that two of those characters are set for a limited role in the series which could portend some seriously bad things.

According to Deadline, Bethel will return as Pointdexter for just three episodes. A separate report by insider Daniel RPK indicated that Woll’s role as Page in the series is limited to just three episodes as well. If you don’t subscribe to coincidence, you might start to think that the two characters’ three-episode appearances might overlap. While it’s highly unlikely that Daredevil: Born Again would adapt “Guardian Devil” in its entirety, it’s possible that the creatives behind it could be brave enough to establish Dex as a major thorn in Matt’s side by having him return as Bullseye and kill Karen. While most fans would likely name Kingpin as Matt’s archnemesis, Bullseye has always been his deadliest enemy. Having a totally unhinged Bullseye take Karen off the board would establish him as a major threat in the MCU and would definitely generate a social media shit storm that might never die down.

Daredevil: Born Again is currently without a release date but some episodes are expected to stream in 2025.

  • Bullseye! Wilson Bethel Returning for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Bullseye! Wilson Bethel Returning for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

After news broke that Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll were set to reprise their respective role, the creative overhaul of Marvel Studios Daredevil: Born Again has added another familiar face to the mix.

According to Comic Book’s Adam Barnhardt, Wilson Bethel has now joined the cast of the Disney + streaming series.

Following the release of the 5-episode streaming series Echo, Disney added the Netflix Defenders-verse series to the official MCU timeline. According to Vincent D’Onofrio, the decision to canonize those series came about during the creative overhaul on Daredevil: Born Again in the Fall of 2023.

Barnhardt’s report did not include any details on what to expecfrom Bethel’s Benjamin Pointdexter. When last seen in the Season 3 finale of Daredevil, the character was undergoing an experimental spinal surgery to in an effort to repair the significant damage done to him at the hands of Fisk’s Kingpin.

  • The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V2

The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V2

Though there have been no official announcements by Marvel Studios, the outlook for 2025 may have changed significantly in the very short amount of time that has passed since we published The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V1. And that means it’s time for an update!

January 15th-March 12th: Daredevil: Born Again, Part 1

New directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have completed taking stock of the footage that was shot last year and seem to have come away with a little less work to do than fans thought. The latest word is that the directing duo and showrunner Dario Scardapane were able to condense what was filmed into 6 episodes and that they’ll be getting to work on filming a new pilot episode and two additional episodes to complete Part One. However…

According to star Vincent D’Onofrio, this highly anticipated streaming series may no longer be 18 episodes…but will it be more or will it be less?

It seems like there are a few shows that could work with more episodes, then some that just need eight or 10 or six. Echo is like five. I think this show [Born Again] could definitely work with more episodes and I know that Charlie [Cox] is, and I am too, happy to do that.

-Vincent D’Onofrio on the Daredevil: Born Again episode count

Whatever the final total ends up being, it seems Part 1 is still on track for an early 2025 release.

May 2nd: Captain America: Brave New World

The great release date shuffle may never end but a new round may start with Captain America: Brave New World. At one point in time, the studio set aside 5 months for additional photography to take place and brought in Matthew Ortman to script those scenes. While the hope is to start in mid-2024, we’ve heard cameras will not roll again until the powers that be are content with what’s been written rather than trying to course correct on the fly. Whether or not they actually film for 5 months, this project cannot afford to be a miss so expect them to take their time which may just mean it gets bumped off its February date and lands in May.

    July 25: Thunderbolts

Steven Yeun dropped out of the film in early January and though the studio reportedly offered fellow TWD alum Austin Abrams the role of Sentry, the film is still without its Robert Reynolds as now. It’s not quite crunch time yet, however, as principal photography isn’t due to start for another 8-12 weeks. So–for now–this one stays here and can easily make its July release.

    September 3rd-October 8th: Ironheart

As was the prevailing belief, star Dominique Thorne confirmed that Ironheart has completed filming. That means it’s just sitting in the can waiting to be released at Marvel Studios’ pleasure. Given all the concern over many of the projects the last few years, that’s a welcome change. It sounds like a very safe bet that this will roll out in Fall 2025.

    November 7: Fantastic Four

In an effort to accommodate the schedule of yet-to-be-announced-as-Reed-Richards star Pedro Pascal, it seems as though the start of production on Fantastic Four has been bumped into the second half of 2024. If that’s accurate, there’s absolutely no way this makes its May 2025 release date and there’s no need to rush it out in July when Thunderbolts SHOULD be completely ready to go. And so, the first family’s MCU debut will have to wait…perhaps until November. There should be no concern about WHEN MCU movies debut anymore (Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever all did very well at the box office in November) but rather that they release when they are ready to release. That might just mean Mahershal Ali’s Blade gets bumped to 2026 but that might just do the studio a favor as its one and only announced 2026 project might need some more time to cook anyway.

  • New Rumor Indicates Two Major ‘Daredevil’ Characters Will Now Return for ‘Born Again’

New Rumor Indicates Two Major ‘Daredevil’ Characters Will Now Return for ‘Born Again’

After filming for several months, Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Daredevil: Born Again paused production due to the SAG strike. Before it did, plenty of reports and rumors about the series made their way online including one that indicated two major supporting characters from the Netflix Dedenders-verse series were not part of the plans for the D+ show. Now, a new report suggests that’s changed.

According the Jeff “The In” Sneider, Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll have joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again as part of the sweeping creative overhaul ordered for the series.

Henson and Woll, who played Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, respectively, were introduced in 2015’s Daredevil and had significant roles in that 3 seasons of that series while also appearing in other Netflix series, as well. Online fan response to them reportedly NOT returning for Daredevil: Born Again was largely negative. Sneider’s report did not indicate how large of a role the returning actors will have in the series

After having time to review footage during the strike-induced shutdown, Kevin Feige and crew decided to change up the creative team on Daredevil: Born Again. Dario Scardapane was brought on as showrunner while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead–who are quickly becoming Marvel Studios go-to-duo–were brought in to direct. According to Sneider, the new creative team will use the previously shot footage to put together 6 episodes. As production restarts, the plan is to film 3 new episodes–one of which will be a new “Episode 1”–giving them nine episode to roll out as the first half of the series.

  • How the ‘Echo’ Season Finale Post-Credit Scene Sets the Stage for 2 Major MCU Projects

How the ‘Echo’ Season Finale Post-Credit Scene Sets the Stage for 2 Major MCU Projects

For the first time ever, a Marvel Studios streaming project had all episodes debut at once when Echo premiered on Disney Plus and Hulu. That meant plenty of fans stayed up late binging all five episodes of the TV-MA project with many taking to social media indicating it caused them to reminisce about the days of binging Netflix’s Marvel series just less than a decade or so ago. While Echo included a couple of connections to Netflix’s Daredevil, it also hinted at a major plot point for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again and one of the studio’s most anticipated films.

After the credits rolled on the fifth and final episode of the series, titled “Maya”, a post-credit stinger showed Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk–greatly changed by his encounter with Maya–headed back to New York on his private plane. After instructing his assistant to assemble “all the remaining heads” (presumably of New York City’s crime organizations) to “stabilize the situation before it spirals out of control.” The Kingpin’s attention then shifts a television where some Spectrum News talking heads are discussing the lack of a clear frontrunner in the race for a new Mayor of NYC. As the news anchors explain New Yorkers are looking for a “fighter” who can understand the pain and frustration they’re experiencing rather than a traditional politician, one says that a “bare-knuckle brawler” willing to “take on the establishment” would “do well” in the race for Mayor. As Fisk–clearly captivated by the idea of running for Mayor–leans forward, the camera cuts to black. What does this mean for the next time we see D’Onofrio’s character in Daredevil: Born Again?

Though Born Again has undergone significant creative restructuring, the post-credit scene would seem to ensure that one major plot point will stay intact when filming resumes. Several months before filming originally began, a rumor circulated that the series would feature Fisk running for Mayor of New York City (and eventually winning the race), as seen in author Charles Soule‘s acclaimed run on Marvel Comics Daredevil. In that run, as Mayor of NYC, Fisk launched a massive anti-vigilante campaign aimed at taking out long-time nemeses such as Daredevil and Spider-Man without lifting a finger. Further rumors about Daredevil: Born Again have consistently indicated that Fisk will launch a similar campaign in the series which will have some major implications for the MCU.

Shortly after Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted in theaters, Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige, confirmed that development on a fourth film had begun. By early 2023, the story for the film had been cracked as star Tom Holland was rumored to have agreed to a new deal to return as Peter Parker. Though development of the film was slowed as a result of the WGA strike, rumors of the film’s plot began to circulate in late 2023. Prominent among them was that Spider-Man 4 would be a street-level Civil War that would feature Spidey, Daredevil and Ant-Man leading other heroes against Mayor Fisk. Given that D’Onofrio and Holland have consistently expressed their desires to see Spidey and Kingpin face off in the MCU, the post-credit stinger in Echo feels like the first step in that direction though it’s unlikely fans will see it play out before 2026.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Provides Promising Update on the Show’s New Direction

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Provides Promising Update on the Show’s New Direction

No project generated more buzz during SDCC ’22 than Daredevil: Born Again. Originally intended to stream on Disney Plus in Spring 2024, production on the series got underway in early 2023 but was paused in June amid the WGA strike. Marvel Studios used that break to evaluate what they had filmed for the series so far and decided the series needed a creative restructuring. By October 2023, Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) had been brought in as showrunner and the directing duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Moon Knight, Loki Season 2) were handed the reigns and tasked both with salvaging what they could from the work that had been done and plotting a new course for the project. As 2024 gets underway, it looks as though production on the project is set to resume soon and fans are starting to become more curious about just what the new direction of the series will be.

Daredevil: Born Again will see Daredevil stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio back in action as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, respectively. D’Onofrio also has a major role in Marvel Studios’ next streaming project, Echo. During an interview with Collider about his role in that series, D’Onofrio provided a very promising update about the new direction Daredevil: Born Again is headed under the direction of Scardapane, Benson and Moorhead.

We’re having a really good time right now. We’re getting back up. We’re gonna start soon, hopefully sooner than later, and Charlie and I feel like the right vibe is there,” D’Onofrio told Collider. With so much negativity surrounding the MCU right now, fans are hopeful that the time taken to restructure Daredevil: Born Again pays off. After all, Daredevil is one of Marvel’s cornerstone characters and rumors have the series paving the way for the character to play a major role in Spider-Man 4 where he and the Wall-Crawler team up to take on Kingpin in what’s being called a “street-level Civil War.” Whether or not that turns out to be the case, D’Onofrio is convinced that the series is in good hands with the new creative team.

I think all the powers out there that control this whole creative world of the MCU, also believe that we’re in the right place right now… I have to say, it’s luck, really. I mean, my favorite series so far have been Moon Knight and Loki, and we’ve got those guys as directors, and so that’s pretty lucky. And we’ve got Dario, who’s an incredible writer who wrote The Punisher. We’re in a very happy place right now

    -Vincent D’Onofrio

With the series set to resume production soon, there’s still hope that Daredevil: Born Again will debut on Disney Plus early in 2025. And, if D’Onofrio is right and the new creatives are heading down the right path, it could be one of the studio’s best projects yet.

In Daredevil: Born Again, “longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Provides a Very Encouraging Update on the Status of the Show’s Production Timeline

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Provides a Very Encouraging Update on the Status of the Show’s Production Timeline

Marvel Studios ambitious 18-episode streaming series, Daredevil: Born Again, began production in New York City in early 2023. Quite a few episodes of the series, which stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, were filmed before the WGA strike forced a shutdown in June. As that strike went on and the SAG strike began, Marvel Studios took a look at what they had put together for the series and decided that the series was in need of a major creative overhaul. Writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord left the show and were replaced by showrunner Dario Scardapane (The Punisher). Moon Knight and Loki Season 2 directors, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, were brought on to determine what was salvageable from the episodes that had been filmed and to take the lead for the rest of the series. With so much going on behind the scenes, production was unable to resume when the dual strikes found resolution; however, according to D’Onofrio, cameras are set to roll soon!

While promoting the upcoming Disney Plus series Echo, which debuts on Hulu and Disney Plus on January 9th, D’Onofrio indicated that a restart of production was right around the corner. According to the star, Daredevil: Born Again will resume filming “not long from now… in a few weeks, in fact.” That information is consistent with the information we heard and shared here:

Even though Moorhead indicated that he and Benson were on “day zero” in November, it’s likely that some portion of the footage that was filmed last year will make its way into the series. With that in mind, it is still entirely possible that the first nine episodes of the series will be ready to roll out by January 2025, which was in the cards at one point in time.

Daredevil: Born Again will see “longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.

  • Vincent D’Onofrio Reveals What It Would Take to End Wilson Fisk’s Reign as the Kingpin of NYC

Vincent D’Onofrio Reveals What It Would Take to End Wilson Fisk’s Reign as the Kingpin of NYC

As Bruce Springsteen once reminded us: only the strong survive. Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk is a survivor. New York City’s Kingpin of Crime survived a point-blank shot to the head in the season finale of Hawkeye and it back on his feet in Marvel Studios’ latest streaming series, Echo, where he will find himself face-to-face with the one who pulled the trigger: his adopted “niece”, Maya Lopez.

From the sounds of it, Fisk’s return in Echo is just the first step along a path that will see the Kingpin become the “big bad” of Marvel Studios’ street-level stories. Next up for Fisk will be the streaming series Daredevil: Born Again, where it’s been rumored the Fat Man will run for Mayor of New York City. Further speculation posits that his arc in that series will dovetail into Spider-Man 4, which has reportedly been developed as a “street-level Civil War.

While there have been no official announcements, it seems the next Spidey film won’t hit theaters until 2026 at best. That means we’re a long way off from casting and set photos; however, D’Onofrio hasn’t been shy about expressing his desire to appear in the film and taking on the Web-Slinger. It’s likely that Spidey wouldn’t be alone in trying to take down the Kingpin (recent rumors support the common sense idea that Daredevil would be among the street-level heroes teaming up with Spider-Man) should they square off and, according to D’Onofrio, the Wall-Crawler would need all the help he can get.

In an interview with Jake’s Takes, D’Onofrio was asked who could take down the Kingpin for good, since a bullet to the head couldn’t do the job, and while he doesn’t see that as a possibility, he did reveal who might stand a chance.

This is a very difficult question, because I don’t see that happening. I don’t see Kingpin dying. Kingpin never died in the canon of the comic books, so that’s very difficult. I’ll talk in terms of who could come close to it. I think that it would have to be either Daredevil or Spider-Man…together, the two of them together, maybe. But I don’t see Kingpin going away. He never did when I was a kid, so I don’t expect he will now.

While D’Onofrio can’t come out and say it, it sure seems as though Fisk is destined to find himself facing off against Daredevil and Spider-Man in the next Spidey solo film. Spidey star Tom Holland has also expressed a desire to see his character take on Kingpin and you have to think that at least part of Marvel Studios’ plan in bringing D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox back was to eventually put them together on the big screen.

Fisk can be seen in Echo, which debuts on Hulu and Disney Plus on January 9th.

  • ‘Loki’ Directors Preparing for ‘Daredevil’ Disney+ Series

‘Loki’ Directors Preparing for ‘Daredevil’ Disney+ Series

Some time ago, it was revealed that Marvel Studios is pulling back on the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. They restarted the project with an actual showrunner in the form of former The Punisher’s Dario Scardapane, who likely will bring his previous work to influence the series to be a bit closer to the version many are hoping to see revived from the original Netflix series.

That isn’t all, as Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, who have proven they are some of Marvel Studios’ best gets after Moon Knight and Loki Season 2, are also involved with the series. In an interview with The Wrap, they revealed that they have yet to start work on the project but are already diving deep into the franchise, comics, and Netflix series included.

It is day zero. We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material. We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick.

    Aaron Moorehead

They will be directing the remaining episodes from the series and it’ll be interesting to see if they have any involvement in getting the previous entries going as well. There’s a lot we don’t know about the adaptation just yet given that it’s taking a completely new direction. Very likely a bigger sign of Marvel Studios reshuffling their future releases.

  • Marvel Studios ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Getting a Creative Retooling

Marvel Studios ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Getting a Creative Retooling

As Marvel Studios looks to completely overhaul how it produces its streaming series, one of its most anticipated projects is getting a complete creative retooling. According to a new report from THR’s Borys Kit, the creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again, which was announced at SDCC ’22 and began production earlier this year, will be entirely replaced.

THR’s report explains that the lengthy shutdown caused by the WGA and SAG strikes gave Marvel Studios One Above All, Kevin Feige, and the executive producers of Daredevil: Born Again time to evaluate the work that had been done on the show and come to the conclusion that the direction it was headed in wasn’t one in which they wanted to continue. As a result, head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord were cut loose along with the directors of each episode. While it’s expected that some of the completed footage will be used, the retooling will be significant and Marvel Studios is on the look for new writers and directors. The hope is that the new team will align better with the original intent behind all Marvel’s projects which is to respect the source material.
