Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Delayed Until 2024

It looks like the wait has just gotten longer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Just recently, PlayStation went all out with a showcase of the upcoming looter shooter from Batman Arkham developers Rocksteady but the game was pushed back shortly after. There was no real date confirmed of when we might expect it, as many believed it might just be a few months to tweak the game.

Yet, some believed it was to rework the entire structure given the negative reception surrounding the Battle Pass system, which was already given a negative reception when the first leaks happened. While it’s not confirmed, the question of why they delayed it right after the showcase had many scratching their head about what is going on.

Sadly, it seems that they are definitely going to be putting a lot more work into the game, as its release date has been postponed to February 2nd of 2024. That is quite a wait and while they promise to ensure the best quality, it’s still curious that such a massive delay took place in the first place.

There’s no real official word on what they are working on, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier believes that the nine months delay isn’t enough time to truly rework an entire system and there’s always a lot more complexity to what it means to “polish” a game. For now, we can only wait quite a bit longer before we finally see what exactly Rocksteady is cooking behind the scenes.

  • ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Will Add More Playable Characters

‘Suicide Squad’ Game Will Add More Playable Characters

Is anyone else getting a feeling of déjà-vu? During the latest PlayStation State of Play, we finally got a good look at the upcoming game by Rocksteady focused on Task Force X. Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League will let you play as four members of the iconic group but it seems more are already in the pipeline.

Similar to Marvel’s Avengers, the new Suicide Squad game is promising that more content is set to release even after the game finds its way into shelves in May. They will have a different system though with a confirmed Battle Pass heading our way. So, it would be safe to assume that characters are only purchasable with a battle pass.

The only question remains: who would they join and can we expect more story elements? It does seem unlikely they’ll add a lot more to the story. So, they may have an endgame structure already mapped out, which was one of the biggest criticism against Marvel’s Avengers, which had a repetition issue with reused missions.

This also opens up the possibility of other iconic members of the Suicide Squad getting added to the game. It seems safe to assume that almost everyone will make use of gunplay one way or another. So, we might see characters like Bloodsport or Peacemaker get added at some point, especially with their newfound popularity in the recent film adaptation by James Gunn. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what heads our way.

  • New Leak Reveals Battle Pass for Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’

New Leak Reveals Battle Pass for Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’

Marvel’s Avengers has left a bitter taste with players, as its release was quite messy and there were some concerns about the general trend of superhero properties exploring Games-as-a-Service offerings. Even Gotham Knights seemed to struggle with its multiplayer focus and the attempt at expanding the franchise with its long-term multiplayer offerings. Now, the next superhero release from Rocksteady is seemingly heading down a similar rocky road.

An image leaked for the upcoming game Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League has revealed a rather curious aspect of the game. The image shared by @Mr_Rebs that was seemingly making the rounds on 4Chan reveals that the game will have a Battle Pass. It’s also our first look at a very simple UI structure for a game promising a colorful exploration of the DC Universe.

For those that might not be too familiar with the concept, it’s a type of functionality that recently created a controversy surrounding the release of Overwatch 2. Instead of letting players use the in-universe currency to unlock skins, you have to pay to have access to a list that only unlocks depending on how well you play.

There’s no word if this game was meant to be a GaaS game, as the wording has been avoided quite a bit. But the inclusion of a Game Pass opens that discussion once again, especially if this means we’ll get more content or characters in the future. There is a “Game Mode” inclusion which hints at some multiplayer offerings but there’s still so little we know about the project. The leaked image has been confirmed and we’re left with a few questions until an official statement follows from Rocksteady.

  • New ‘Multiversus’ Image Reveals ‘Gremlins’ Stripe and Black Adam as Playable Characters

New ‘Multiversus’ Image Reveals ‘Gremlins’ Stripe and Black Adam as Playable Characters

It looks like a new leak may have revealed the next two additions to Warner Bros. Multiversus. The latest Super Smash Bros. clone uses the vast library of the WB license to have characters from Game of Thrones, Adventure Time, DC Comics, and many more iconic franchises face off against each other. Now, it seems two more additions have been revealed in a newly leaked banner for the game.

It seems that the game is eyeing adding a character from Gremlins, Spike, as a playable character alongside DC Comic’s anti-hero Black Adam. The latter is definitely a perfectly timed addition with Dwayne Johnson‘s upcoming film hitting theaters in the coming months. It’s also great to see such a cult classic like the 1984 horror film getting some representation. You can see the banner as shared by @InTheShadeMV here:

He has also uploaded a closer look at the two new additions in a new tweet that offers a better look at the details going into their designs:

It’s interesting that Black Adam is closer to his comic design rather than what he’ll look like in his film. Of course, it likely wouldn’t be cheap to get Dwayne Johnson‘s likeness in the game. Though, they have recently added LeBron James as a playable character from the latest Space Jam film, which means that skin could be in the cards at some point. So, anything is possible with Multiversus right now.

  • RUMOR: Warner Bros Discovery Possibly Looking to Sell Game Studios

RUMOR: Warner Bros Discovery Possibly Looking to Sell Game Studios

The acquisition war is seemingly not going to end anytime soon. New rumors suggest that the newly united Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to sell its gaming studios, and instead, license out its IP to other game developers for future projects instead.

Multiple rumors about WB Games being sold off have been floating around for a while now, however, it seems more likely than ever with Discovery and Warner Bros merger. The two companies have already been restructuring elsewhere, including canceling all scripted television from two of their largest TV networks. With more cuts likely to make their way to the company during these restructures, It doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibilities to see the game development side of things get sold for good.

According to the rumors, interested parties include Microsoft, Sony, EA, Tencent, Take-Two, and NetEase. As a reminder, franchises like Mortal Kombat and studios like NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat, Injustice) and RockSteady (Batman Arkham, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League) would be up for grabs if this rumor is true, while new DC games may go the route of Marvel Games, being developed by companies far and wide across the industry.

Other notable developers owned by Warner Bros are Monolith Productions (Shadow of Mordor, Wonder Woman), Avalanche Studios (Hogwarts Legacy), and WB Games Montreal (Gotham Knights). This could be a very large shakeup in the gaming space, make sure to keep up to date here with any new information that may come as this rumor develops.

  • ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ Delayed to Spring 2023

‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ Delayed to Spring 2023

As excited as we were for the upcoming releases of DC’s new slate of games, they have been hit with delays quite a bit. Gotham Knight‘s and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League were first showcased during DC FanDome back in 2020. While it seems that the former will finally release sometime later this year, sadly the next Rocksteady game has been pushed back once again until Spring 2023. The game’s director Sefton Hill, who worked on the Batman Arkham games, took to Twitter to confirm the delay.

Delays have become commonplace throughout the industry at this point, as many are facing the troubles of working from home with limited resources. Rocksteady’s last release was back in 2016 with Batman: Arkham Knight. While we did get a VR game a year later, Suicide Squad is their biggest release in quite some time. It’s great that Warner Bros. gives them the time to work on it, but it also makes sense given the massive success that their ventures into the Arkhamverse have been.

Gotham Knights, created by Warner Bros. Montréal, will be the successor to that series that mainly keeps quite a few of the iconic mechanics. Sadly, it seems like a direct continuation of the Arkham games won’t be happening anytime soon. Luckily, Suicide Squad does take place in the same universe. So, we’ll see if it may even set up something moving forward. The most interesting connection lies in that Arkham Origins set up a Suicide Squad storyline, but Deathstroke is noticeably absent in the roster. We’ll see how it may end up fitting into the storyline.

  • ‘Gotham Knights’ Finally Gets an October Release Date

‘Gotham Knights’ Finally Gets an October Release Date

Before there is any confusion, the Gotham Knights in question is the game by Warner Bros. Montréal and not the CW series in production with the same name. It’s been quite the wait for the next entry in the Batman gaming franchise that was started by Rocksteady with Arkham Asylum. While Gotham Knights will take a different direction, many core elements from the teams’ experience on Arkham Origins will carry over. Players will get a chance to try it out when it releases on the 25th of October 2022.

The game, as far as we know, will let you play as Red Hood, Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl. We got our first gameplay during the first-ever DC FanDome, which teased a brawler-style game where you can freely explore a neon-take on Gotham. There are elements from the original Arkham series that are included, but still, try to take a different approach that fits the younger members of the Bat-family. The only confirmed threats are Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owl, who might have closer ties to the sudden death of Bruce Wayne. This is our first real update on the game in quite some time. So, hopefully, they can stick to this new release date.

  • Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

The wait for Rocksteady’s next game will take a bit longer, as Bloomberg has revealed that Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League has been pushed back until 2023. There is still no set release date, as it was initially announced to release in 2022 alongside the other DC-based game, Gotham Knights. It’s unsure if they decided to push it back due to both games having close ties to Batman, or if it’s a production decision.

The game was originally announced back in 2020 during their DC FanDome event. It’ll focus on a smaller team that comprises the titular Suicide Squad, as you can play either Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot, or the ever-present Harley Quinn. Unlike Gotham Knights, this game seemingly focuses more on gunplay and mechanics similar to Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive.

It’s a shame the wait is going to be longer once again, as we still know very little about the game. 2021’s DC FanDome offered our first real look at gameplay, but it was only in short snippets. Rocksteady continues to focus primarily on the story, but it supposedly will act as a Games-as-a-Service model once it releases. Here’s hoping we still get some updates throughout the year as we continue to wait for its release.
