  • RUMOR: ‘Logan’ Breakout Dafne Keen Joins ‘The Acolyte’

RUMOR: ‘Logan’ Breakout Dafne Keen Joins ‘The Acolyte’

Lost in the shuffle of Star Wars content on Disney+ has been The Acolyte, an upcoming series exploring the rise of the Dark Side during the final days of the High Republic era. Fortunately for fans, more exciting news is on the way. According to The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider, Logan breakout Dafne Keen is the latest star to join the growing cast. If true, Keen would appear alongside Bodies Bodies Bodies lead Amandla Stenberg, whose involvement with The Acolyte was long-rumored and officially confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con in July. The project is set to be developed by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, who will serve as head writer and showrunner, and Rayne Roberts, who was previously a crew member on Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Keen gained international attention at a young age, playing the fearsome Wolverine clone Laura, a.k.a. X-23, in 2017’s critically acclaimed film Logan. Since then, the actress has spent most of her time starring in HBO’s big-budget television adaptation His Dark Materials, where she has performed opposite James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson. If she does have a role in The Acolyte, it’s still unknown who she might be playing. The series has been described as a “female-centric” take on the Star Wars universe, meaning she and Stenberg will likely not be the last women added to the cast.

Its events will take place during a Star Wars era not ever shown before in live-action, so most specifics regarding the plot are difficult to speculate about. To this point, the High Republic has only been detailed in novels and comic books, and even those have not yet made it to the point where The Acolyte will reportedly pick up. As such, Keen‘s potential role and the series at large remain a giant question mark for fans.

  • Tony Gilroy Announces Directors for ‘Andor’ Season 2

Tony Gilroy Announces Directors for ‘Andor’ Season 2

The first season of Andor has yet to finish airing on Disney+, but series creator Tony Gilroy is already looking ahead. Production on Season 2 of the Star Wars series is expected to begin relatively soon, and it looks like the series is set to get some new creatives behind the camera for the forthcoming season. Gilroy exclusively revealed to the folks at Collider that Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios will direct episode blocks of Andor for the show’s second season. They’ll take over for Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron who directed episode blocks of the show’s first season.

Kleiman, while still relatively new to Hollywood, has been building a rather impressive resume over the years. His first title was the film, Partisan, and he has recently been focusing on the small screen with shows like Top of the Lake and Yellowjackets. As for Metz, like Kleiman, despite working in the industry for a long time, he’s still relatively new to Hollywood. He’s directed multiple documentaries and most recently helmed a television mini-series called ZeroZeroZero. Ruizpalacios has been steadily working as a writer and director, having directed episodes of Narcos: Mexico and Outer Range.

Andor is currently airing on Disney+ with the first season expected to end its run on Nov. 23rd.

  • REPORT: Marvel Studios Eyeing ‘Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk for ‘Wonder Man’

REPORT: Marvel Studios Eyeing ‘Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk for ‘Wonder Man’

It seems that the casting for the Wonder Man Disney+ series is in full swing, as not too long after Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was revealed to be in talks for the leading role, it seems they may already be trying to fill another key role. According to a new report by Illuminerdi, they have also set their sights on Bob Odenkirk joining the production in a key role as Wonder Man’s manager.

Odenkirk would definitely be a great addition to the MCU, as the actor has made quite a splash as of late with his work on Better Call Saul, the long-running Breaking Bad spinoff exploring the early days of his character Saul Goodman. He’s also proven himself as an action star with his role in Nobody. So, whatever direction they take with his character, he’s definitely going to offer us a memorable performance.

There’s a lot of hope for the Wonder Man project, especially with how it may potentially explore Hollywood in a world filled with superheroes. Not only that, but perhaps it opens up the window for Marvel to also explore its journey as a production company. There could be a lot of meta-takes with this project; not something they are new to either.

  • ‘Loki’ Concept Illustrator Offers Insight Into Sylvie’s Comic Inspirations

‘Loki’ Concept Illustrator Offers Insight Into Sylvie’s Comic Inspirations

Sylvie was one of Marvel Studios’ most interesting additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sophia DiMartino takes on the role of a multiversal counterpart of Loki, who has lived her own life and ends up developing a deep connection with the version we first met in Avengers: Endgame. Yet, when she was first teased many believed she was the Enchantress before the series revealed her true role.

Yet, our theories on her Enchantress routes from the comics were dead on the money according to concept illustrator Wesley Burt. In the official Art of book fo the disney+ series Loki: The Art of Series, The Direct shared an interesting segment from Burt where he reveals that the character was initially just a fusion of Enchantress known as Sylvie Lushton and the iconic Lady Loki, who had a major role in the comics.

When I started out working on concepts for Sylvie, I knew very little. Before I was able to read the script, I knew she was going to be a variant of Loki, that it was going to draw upon both Lady Loki and Enchantress Sylvie Lushton from the comics. And so the first pass of stuff I did was really focused on just seeing what I could pull from the comic book references and build from there. Then I was able to read the entire story to get a feel for who she is, what she is after, and what her personality is like.

    Wesley Burt

While the name in her series gave it away, it’s quite interesting that early concept arts did pull from these comic influences to establish a brand new take on a well-established take. Once we met a younger and older version of Loki, the connection of her being this Disney+ series’ take on Lady Loki made sense but it opened the question if the Enchantress comparison was just a coincidence. Either way, they still wanted to make her stand out on her own terms as well.

Even though she’s a variant of Loki, she’s a different person in certain ways. And from there, you get the sense that she’s on a mission. So I wanted to make sure her costuming was functional; it wasn’t going to slow her down. She could fight in it; she could run and do whatever she needs to do because all that she cares about is ‘completing her mission.

    Wesley Burt

DiMartino is set to reprise the role of Sylvie in the second season, and it’ll be interesting to see if we see many more influences from her comic counterparts creep in. There still is the possibility that they explore Enchantress as her own character in the MCU, as elements from her were also used in the new take on Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. So, we’ll see if she might actually make her MCU debut at some point.

  • ‘Ironheart’ May Have Wrapped Filming

    ‘Ironheart’ May Have Wrapped Filming

It’s been quite a few busy weeks for the upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart. Not only did we get quite a few set photos teasing key characters and additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there were also been a few casting announcements while the series’ was busy filming. Dominique Thorne is also set to make her MCU debut next week with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which has recently been confirmed to set up her story in the upcoming spinoff Disney+ series.

Yet, a new Instagram story by Jalen Marlowe, who works as a still photographer for the Disney+ production, has shared that they seemingly wrapped work on the production. So, it seems that they are slowly winding down the filming of the series. The series. was teased to release later next year, and there’s enough time for reshoots as well as the post-production process if they are currently wrapping up production. It would also match with first wrap gifts being revealed a few days ago.

Ironheart looks to be one of the MCU’s most promising new series. Not only is Ryan Coogler actively producing, but it also will merge two very distinct worlds as Riri Williams has to use her technology against more magical-based characters. So, we’re not getting the tech-on-tech action we may have initially expected but are exploring that very melding of two worlds that Thor talked about all the way back in the first film when he compared science to magic.

  • CONFIRMED: Aubrey Plaza Joins ‘WandaVision’ Spinoff, First Character Details

CONFIRMED: Aubrey Plaza Joins ‘WandaVision’ Spinoff, First Character Details

Well, it looks like that didn’t take long to follow-up on the initial report from Illuminerdi, as Aubrey Plaza has just been confirmed to have joined the upcoming production of Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The WandaVision spinoff will further explore the character played by Kathryn Hahn and while plot details still remain tightly under wraps, it seems that Plaza will be playing a villain. Though who exactly still remains a mystery and it’s unclear if this might be a one-time role specifically for this project or maybe becomes a bigger player in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Coven of Chaos is definitely going to be a curious project among the various series from Marvel Studios. Not only is it focused on a just recently introduced character, but it’s the first time they’ve started a project focused primarily on a fan-favorite character. Perhaps at some point, the project was originally going to be quite a bit different before they realized the potential of now only featuring more Kathryn Hahn in the MCU but also giving the magical corner a bit more attention.

Plus, the “coven” aspect does seem like a promising hint at what we can expect and who knows if the series might even add a bit to the original WandaVision. We’ve learned that Dottie actress Emma Caulfield was set to return, who was theorized to potentially be another witch. We got a glimpse at Agatha Harkness’ backstory and who knows if she had a contingency set in case her plans didn’t work out as planned.

  • REVIEW: ‘Andor’ Episode 9

    REVIEW: ‘Andor’ Episode 9

Andor, a series built on mini-arcs, is in the midst of an arc that paints a bleak picture for the characters who have put themselves in the crosshairs of the Empire. Whether it’s Bix being tortured by the all-too-eager Doctor Gorst, Mon’s voice being ignored in the Senate or Cassian continuing along as a cog in the Imperial machine, Episode 9, “Nobody’s Listening” exists to show the extent of the Empire’s scope and power and contrast it against the Rebellion. Though Meero hasn’t caught the big fish she’s hoping to snag in her net, the fact that she and the Empire can do their work openly and without recourse, while the Rebellion has to strike from the shadows, serves to remind the audience that the galaxy is still a long way from openly embracing the Rebels. However, the events, which take place five years before the Battle of Yavin see in Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope, also work to show exactly why the Rebellion eventually grew into what audiences know it to be. In this way, Andor continues to be a prequel story worth telling and one that future generations of Star Wars fans will come to view as an essential piece of the overall story of the galaxy far, far away.

The centerpiece of this arc, of course, is the very THX 1138-inspired prison where Cassian spends his days avoiding electrocution while serving as an Imperial laborer. While most of the prisoners seemed resigned to their fates, as best personified by Andy Serkis‘ Kino Loy, Cassian has recruited at least one fellow prisoner in an escape plan that, to put it nicely, is in its infancy. Despite his efforts to recruit Loy to assist in his efforts to escape, Cassian finds himself unable to break Loy free from the fear that the Empire is listening in on their conversations. Cassian’s tense conversation with Loy in their sleeping quarters is reminiscent of his conversation with Luthen Rael earlier in the series: the Empire isn’t listening because they don’t have to. They’ve come to believe themselves to be so omnipresent and omnipotent that they can simply rule through fear and intimidation. Meero is the face of that in Episode 9, though Cassian’s time in the prison only serves as an ironic display of the fact that the Empire has grown so large that they aren’t even aware that the person they’re searching for is already being held in one of their prisons. As Meero and the ISB scour the galaxy and leave behind a trail of dead and broken bodies, the man they’re attempting to catch is plotting his escape from them.

With that in mind, it seems that the incident on Level 2 serves as the pivot point of the episode (and potentially the entire prison arc) as it is likely to ultimately lead to Meero and the ISB learning they already had Cassian in their grasp. The mass murder of the prisoners is sure to be a breaking point for Loy, but it also works as an example of exactly the type of behavior Rael hoped the Aldhani heist would provoke out of the Empire. The Empire’s dedication to swift and terrible retribution can’t be overlooked, even within the walls of a prison. Imagine the response if word were to get out…

“Nobody’s Listening” stands as an incredibly strong episode because it allows the audience to feel the enormity of everything that has come before and what feels like is about to come next. Andor, both the character and the series, seems poised on a precipice that promises to lead to an exciting downhill ride over the next three episodes of the series. That’s built on season-long character development and intricate attention to detail in slowly tying together season-long plot threads. Once again, Andor proves that taking time to tell a story can be a brilliant choice as long as it’s a story worth telling.

  • ‘She-Hulk’ Concept Art Reveals Unused Daredevil Villain

‘She-Hulk’ Concept Art Reveals Unused Daredevil Villain

If there was one thing She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had plenty of, it was low-tier foes for the titular hero to face. Almost weekly, fans were introduced to new, second-rate baddies from the Marvel universe, whether they be in the courtroom or making ill-advised decisions in the streets. In fact, there were so many ridiculous characters, it almost seemed like nothing the writers pitched ever hit the cutting room floor. Unfortunately, that is not true. It would seem that at least one minor villain actually failed to make the grade, and was removed from the show prior to filming.

Concept artist Wesley Burt, who did a lot of the early design work on the series, took to Instagram to reveal a classic Daredevil villain was, at one point, supposed to make an appearance in She-Hulk. Carl Burbank, better known as Bushwacker, is a mercenary and longtime enemy of the Man Without Fear. Formerly a priest, he abandoned his vows after a string of deaths in his parish, and instead became a paid killer for the CIA. He was outfitted with weaponized, cybernetic arms, which he eventually used to get jobs from bigger baddies like Kingpin and The Hood.

Burt claims that Bushwacker would have appeared in an early episode of She-Hulk, though it’s unclear where he would have fit in. Based in the show’s track record, it’s likely the character would have had a small, comedic role. Burt essentially confirms this when he says the mercenary would have struggled to change out and load his “robohands” during his time on screen. Either way, it would have been cool to see such a deep-cut Marvel villain in live-action. Perhaps Marvel Studios will find somewhere else to use Bushwacker soon.

  • ‘Wakanda Forever’ Producer Reveals ‘Ironheart’s Place on the MCU Timeline

‘Wakanda Forever’ Producer Reveals ‘Ironheart’s Place on the MCU Timeline

There have been many questions surrounding when exactly the upcoming Ironheart series takes place. Not only is Dominique Thorne going to be introduced in the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever but set photos from the Disney+ spinoff hinted at some new armors she is working on. With no sighting of the one that was recently leaked through tie-in merchandise, it seemed odd that Riri Williams wouldn’t use it in her own series.

Well, luckily producer Nate Moore who worked on Black Panther Wakanda Forever offered some insight into the series and its place on the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. While we don’t yet know exactly when the sequel takes place, it looks like the Disney+ series is a direct continuation rather than a prequel.

Riri is carrying the experience that she had in this movie back home to MIT & there’s some interesting repercussions to her adventures that will set her on a fun course.

    Nate Moore

It’s definitely a curious direction and it does make sense that they’d want to continue her storyline. Plus, the experience of working with the Wakandans could become a helpful tool when she is faced with a new challenge in the form of magic. Many set photos and the confirmation of The Hood as an antagonist do give credence to her taking on a new kind of challenge. Perhaps the new suits we see are prototypes to take on this new threat. Of course, the power source required to run her finalized Ironheart armor may also need some rework which leads to her experimenting. Whatever the direction may be, it remains promising to see what the future of the MCU has in store.

  • ‘Ironheart’ Set Photo Seemingly Confirms ‘Doctor Strange’ Comics Character

‘Ironheart’ Set Photo Seemingly Confirms ‘Doctor Strange’ Comics Character

A recent rumor hinted that actress Regan Aliyah is set to bring Zelma Stanton—a Doctor Strange ally and apprentice—to live action in Ironheart. A new set photo that has emerged from the series seems to support that Zelma will make an appearance.

In the photo, a sign for a bookstore reads, “Stanton’s Sweets, Reads, & More.” In the comics, Zelma initially joined the sorcery world as Doctor Strange’s librarian, so the fact that the character is linked to a bookstore signals that the character may be introduced in her early stages as the Sorcerer Supreme’s ally.

Zelma is a relatively new character to the comics anyway, first appearing in 2015 in Jason Aaron’s Doctor Strange run. After being helped by the sorcerer, Zelma becomes the librarian for the Sanctum Santorum. After several adventures in this capacity, she decides to practice magic as Strange’s apprentice. The series already features The Hood as the main antagonist, and Sacha Baron Cohen is heavily rumored to play Mephisto in the series, so having another magic-related character in Ironheart further fuels the technology versus magic theme or plot for the series.

Check out the set photo below:

Ironheart is set to stream on Disney Plus in the Fall of 2023.
