Set photos from the UK set of the second season of Loki seemed to show that Blindspotting’sRafael Casal had joined the series. Now, a trade report confirms that’s the case and points out that Casal will have a “major role” in the streamer.
The photos showed Casal on set with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius. Casal was in a TVA jumpsuit, meaning he is a prisoner of the Time Variance Authority. Based on the limited information in the set photos, he looks to be helping the two leads.
Disney had no comment on Casal’s casting and there’s no clear indication of who he might be playing. Season 2 of Loki looks to pick up right where Season 1 left off, with the titular character in a new timeline created when Sylvie killed He Who Remains. Look for Season 2 of Loki on Disney Plus in the Summer of 2023.
When we last saw Sylvie in the season finale of Loki, she had just unleashed all manor of chaos by killing He Who Remains. By killing He Who Remains, the Laufeydottir allowed for uncontrolled expansion of the multiverse and for the possibility of Kang the Conquerer to come into power. Struck with the implications of what she’d done, Sylvie fell to the floor of the Citadel at the End of Time.
With Season 2 of Loki now underway and set pics from the UK leaking out, it was only a matter of time before fans got a glimpse of what Sylvie has gotten up to since killing He Who Remains and, just as you’d expect, she went to McDonald’s. Set photos have hit Twitter that show Sophia Di Martino accompanied by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki leaving a McDonald’s in what appears to be the 1970s.
Without context, the most interesting thing about the photos is certainly that Sylvie’s lunch seems to be in an era-accurate non-biodegradable container. This is the second set of set photos that seem to be set in the 70s, raising the question of what is so central to that decade that it will be the setting of at least one episode of the second season.
Loki Season 2 is expected to hit Disney Plus sometime in 2023.
Emmy season has started and while Marvel Studios isn’t topping the board this time around after the success with WandaVision, which did only end up winning a few actual awards, they are still going to be present this year. We already reported on Moon Knight drawing in an impressive eight nominations but that#s not the only series to draw in Emmy’s attention.
Hawkeye got a bit snubbed this year with only two nominations. They have been nominated for Best Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series as well as Best Stunt Performance. Loki, however, was able to draw in six nominations in total with Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Best Music Composition, Best Original Main Title Theme Music (well deserved), and Best Sound Editing. What If…? has also received three nominations, which include a posthumous nomination for Chadwick Boseman, Outstanding Animated Program for the Doctor Strange episode, and one for Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher.
All three shows were quite well received by critics and have left their impression upon the MCU with some unique concepts. Loki stands out for telling a story out of time while Moon Knight was the most standalone since the original Iron Man. In a way, Hawkeye gave us the most grounded of all the Marvel Studios storylines as Clint had to take down a mafia.
Loki’s the first second season for any Marvel Studios-produced Disney+ series yet unlike other shows that try to keep a consistent team throughout, a completely new team is taking over. Kate Herron, the director who initially pitched the show, has left with Moon Knight directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead taking over. Even head writer Michael Waldronhas passed the torch to Eric Martin. Luckily, one member remains according to a new report.
According to Inverse, it looks like composer Natalie Holt is set to return in the second season to bring back the iconic soundtrack that defined the series. She’s been quite busy with work on Obi-Wan Kenobi and going on to tackle Batgirl next, but it’s great to know she’ll also be back for Loki after giving it its distinctive sound. So, we might expect the same direction of the soundtrack for the series as we had in the past.
We still know very little about the direction of this series, but the base concept is probably one of the few that could potentially keep going no matter where the MCU continues to evolve. With the multiverse unleashed after the actions of Sylvie in the first season, who knows what trouble the TVA and a once again stranded Loki might have to face.
With a new team at the helm, it does seem like we’ll get some twists and new additions for this season to make it stand out from the previous one. Whatever direction they take, we can’t wait to see how it might tie into the overarching tease of Kang the Conqueror’s arrival implies.
It looks like Moon Knight and Loki are currently joining the big ranks, s both series have nabbed a few nominations from this year’s Hollywood Critical Association Awards. This year is led by This is Us and Succession but with various other projects nabbing quite a few nominations. The HCA is planning a ceremony on August 13th for TV with a streaming special following the next day. So, we’ll have to wait a while until we get the official winners, but it’s great to see these Marvel Studios projects find their spot among some of TV’s best.
Moon Knight is currently nominated for Best Writing in a Streaming Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Movie with Jeremy Slater‘s “The Goldfish Problem” episode. Ethan Hawke has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actor with Oscar Isaac getting the Best Actor nomination. There’s some tough competition this year, but both did give their A-game for this project and it would be great to see at least Isaac potentially pull in a win.
Loki‘s Michael Waldron is nominated for Best Writing in a Streaming Series, Drama for “Glorious Purpose.” Kate Herron also pulled in a Best Directing nomination for “Journey Into Mystery” where she’s going against Shawn Levy for Stranger Things “Dear Billy.” Sophia DiMartino, Owen Wilson, and Tom Hiddleston also are nominated in their respective category. Loki is also in the Best Streaming Series, Drama nomination category going against Ozark, Squid Game, Severance, Stranger Things, The Morning Show, Pachinko, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. So, it’s going to be interesting to see if Marvel Studios wins anything this year.
Photos from the set of the second season of Loki seemed to indicate a movie theater would play a key role in scenes currently being filmed in London. Now, a behind-the-scenes set video has leaked out that confirms the importance of the theater and shows the series’ dynamic duo back together.

Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson are filming a scene together at the theater and given the black suit and tie and fanfare seen in other set videos, it seems that Loki and Mobius are attending a movie premiere. The two came formed quite a bond in Season 1, but as the season ended and Loki made his way back to TVA headquarters, it was heartbreakingly revealed that the Mobius from an apparently new timeline had no knowledge of who Loki was or of the other Mobius’ friendship. Having to start over again leaves all kinds of room for interesting stories to develop and it looks like while the two are working together here, Loki’s hands may actually be restrained. We’ll have to wait for a better look to determine exactly what’s happening, but it’s great to see the two stars back together!
Season 2 of Loki, one of Marvel Studios’ most popular streaming series to date, is now in production in London and some intriguing set photos have now made their way online. The first season of the streamer shot in Atlanta and did so mostly in studio, meaning set leaks were extraordinarily rare. Getting a look at these set photos this early into production on Season 2 is extra exciting.
It looks as though Loki Season 2 is shooting on location at London’s Noel Theater and, according to the movie posters put up for the shoot, it’s likely that this portion of the show is set in 1974 or 1975.
As seen in pics, there’s a combination of real-life and in-universe films being advertised at the theaters. Herbie Rides Again, Airport 1975 and Earthquake all hit theaters in UK 1974, with Earthquake debuting in late November. The three other movie posters on display at the fictional Leopold Theater are wonderful Easter eggs. One is a film starring Kingo of the Eternals, another is for a film entitled Phone Ranger and the final two are for a horror film entitled Zaniac. Phone Ranger and Zaniac are among the deepest of DEEP cuts Marvel Studios has ever dropped in a production as both are incredibly obscure comic book characters.
Interestingly enough, the first look at Loki, presented by Kevin Feige back in 2019, featured the God of Mischiefoutside of a movie theater in what appeared to by 1975 New York. That concept was never explored in Season One, but it looks like Season 2 will make good on it and that a movie will be premiering at the Leopold Theater. Whether or not Loki will be there and what he’ll get up to remains to be seen, but it’s worth noting that the end of Season 1 took place in a timeline where thing in the TVA were a little different and Loki didn’t seem to have any allies there, meaning we might see him hopping around a bit while on the run.
Thor: Love and Thunder marks director Taika Waititi’s second chapter in the MCU journey of the Norse God of Thunder and it promises to be a wild entry. The film will see Chris Hemsworth’s Odinson undergo a personal renaissance, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster become the Mighty Thor and the two former lovers team up to take on one of the MCU’s most terrifying villains yet, Gorr the God Butcher.
Promotional footage from the film has heavily featured many characters who are returning from Thor: Ragnarok, but so far, one major character from that film has been notably absent. Though a Variant of him is plenty busy having his own adventures, there’s been no sign that Loki would appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. This is sensible, of course, because the Loki from the timeline explored in this movie had his neck broken by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, making it difficult for even the God of Mischief to return. That doesn’t mean Waititi doesn’t have ideas about what he’d like to see Loki get up to in the MCU, however.
In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Waititi talked about how he’d like to see one of Loki’s most colorful adventures from Norse mythology adapted to the MCU:
Loki at one point turned himself into a female horse, had sex with, like, a serpent, and then got pregnant. And then gave birth to an eight-legged horse. Why was that not in Avengers? We’re gonna start a petition, we need to see Tom Hiddleston pregnant with a horse.
Taika Waititi
That eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, is the mythological steed of Odin and made an appearance in 2011’s Thor. And while Waititi may be conflating a few different mythological stories about Loki’s exploits, it’s certainly shows that with Waititi, none of the wild idea from Norse mythology are off the table.
Thor: Love and Thunder will open in theaters on July 8th.
There was so much to love in the first season of Loki but for many, Eugene Cordero‘s Casey was a hilarious standout. The Time Variance Authority secretary was a charming member whose deadpan reactions to Tom Hiddleston’s Loki were a highlight in the earlier episodes. Also, it takes a truly powerful person to use Infinity Stones as paperweights. Plus, he offered a clear look into how exactly the TVA worked and hinted at the eventual revelation of their identity as Variants from older dimensions.
The reveal of his return comes in an interview with the actor from ScreenRant. When asked on his potential return to the franchise, he was surprisingly open about it and just confirmed that we’ll see more of Casey in the upcoming second season. Yet, he didn’t confirm in what capacity or what we can expect.
Yes, yes, you can [look forward to more Casey]. You know, I can’t [tease anything], because I don’t even know. There’s so many passwords and passcodes that I have to fill out just to even look at the pages that I’m on, and the way that it works is things constantly change in a great way. There’s so many moving parts in that universe that things keep changing, so I can’t really nail it down, but I’m excited. I’m excited to do more and I don’t know to what capacity I’ll be able to be a part of it, but I’m excited to do it. So yeah, get ready, it’ll be fun, I hope? No, it will be, it’ll be great. [Chuckles]”
Eugene Cordero
He certainly sounded like he was having some fun teasing the eventual return and what the second season has to offer for fans of the series. Loki was its most-watched series and it definitely isn’t an easy task to follow up on one of Marvel Studios’ strongest seasons. With a new creative team involved and the arrival of Kang the Conqueror, it’s definitely going to be exciting to see what the future has in store for Disney+ subscribers.
It looks like the first of hopefully many second seasons of any Marvel Studios Disney+ show has finally started production. Cinematographer Isaac Bauman took to his personal Instagram account to share that they have started production on the second season of Loki (as shared by Twitter user @enchantcs due to Bauman deleting the post). He shared the first look from the set which doesn’t reveal too much but does tease with the sentence “Just the beginning.”
As Michael Waldron went on to continue his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Eric Martin is taking over as Loki‘s head writer. It’s unclear how they will continue the franchise and if the second season may be a bit removed from what came before. We know that the Time Variance Authority will make its return, but with a new creative team on board, they may make some changes to make the season stand out from the previous one.
Even director Kate Herron has moved on from the project to tackle new ventures with Moon Knight directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead taking on the duties. So, it’ll be interesting to see just how they continue the look and feel from the previous season while still adding their own twist moving the franchise forward.
