  • Open World ‘Iron Man’ Game From ‘Just Cause’ Studio Was Canceled Back in 2012

Open World ‘Iron Man’ Game From ‘Just Cause’ Studio Was Canceled Back in 2012

Well, here’s a rather surprising reveal but it looks like we almost had an open-world Iron Man game all the way back in 2012. Avalance Studios, the masterminds behind the popular and chaotic Just Cause series, were working on a game based on Iron Man for multiple years. Sadly, it seems that Marvel and Disney decided to pull the plug all the way back in 2012.

Avalance co-founder Christofer Sundberg seemingly revealed it for the first time in a clip from an interview with MinnMax. While no details on just how the game would work, it was confirmed as an open-world game that fits neatly into their general approach to game design. The only games we got from the character, who saw a resurgence in popularity thanks to the MCU’s early beginnings, were movie tie-ins and a decent VR game.

The potential to just fly anywhere as Iron Man sounds quite promising and hopefully, they may get approached to revive the concept. While Marvel’s Avengers still offers a playable version of the character, its game design is a bit more restrictive on how free you can roam around. With a Marvel and Disney gaming event on the horizon, perhaps we’ll find out what they have in store for us and what the gaming future of the franchise might look like moving forward.

  • New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’s Stealth Suit

New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’s Stealth Suit

It looks like a few skins have found their way online again for Marvel’s Avengers. The game has been taking a few more steps forward, as they just revealed Winter Soldier is making his way into the game alongside the long-awaited Cloning Labs in an update later this year. With the latest update, it seems that leaker @mmmmmmmmiller has gotten his hands on the first look at some upcoming skins including one from Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Fans have long hoped to see the iconic suit make its way into the game, as it was one of his most popular designs at the time of the film’s release. Like with most Marvel Cinematic Universe suits, it does seem like they went into a lot of detail to bring it to life in the game, and will surely be a popular choice for many that main Captain America.

It’ll be interesting how many more MCU suits they have already cooking. Just recently they revealed one based on Jane Foster’s costume from Thor: Love and Thunder. With Winter Soldier’s upcoming arrival they’ll also have quite a few new designs they can add with his extensive history throughout the MCU. So, it seems they won’t be running out of any options for new skins anytime soon.

  • Disney & Marvel Video Game Showcase Set for D23

Disney & Marvel Video Game Showcase Set for D23

All eyes are on D23’s potential film and television announcements, but the Expo unveiled today that fans should look out for more video game news as well. In a press release, the House of Mouse revealed that it will stage a showcase for its upcoming Marvel and Disney games at 1:00 PM – Pacific Time – on Friday, September 9th.

The digital presentation will be hosted by Kinda Funny’s Blessing Adeoye Jr., and will feature exclusive first looks at new content from Disney & Pixar Games, Marvel Games, Lucasfilm Games, and 20th Century Games. For those hoping to watch the showcase in real time, it will be streamed live on YouTube, D23Expo.com, and the social media pages for D23, Disney, and Marvel Entertainment. Anyone attending the convention will be able to watch live on the Premiere Stage, with an added presentation following the live stream featuring developer interviews, special guests, and exclusive giveaways.

Titles fans can expect to see discussed during the showcase include LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which has been released but likely has more downloadable content on the way, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical role-playing game that is set to become available in stores sometime next year. Disney Dreamlight Valley, a life-sim game releasing on September 6th, has also been listed as part of the virtual display.

Curiously, the press release for the event also names the upcoming Marvel ensemble game from Skydance New Media as a topic of conversation. That game was announced last year as a narrative-driven blockbuster with an original story, but nothing has been made public since. Hopefully, D23 can provide some more exciting answers when the time comes.

  • ‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Faces Another Delay, May Not Release Until 2023

‘Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Faces Another Delay, May Not Release Until 2023

Well, it looks like the wait for Marvel and Firaxis’ upcoming tactical RPG, Midnight Suns, which offers a unique take on the iconic superhero gaming franchise will have o wait just a bit longer. Firaxis’ parent company, Take-Two, has revealed during an earnings call that they have decided to push back the upcoming game Midnight Suns once again. This delay makes it the second time the game has required more time to be worked on and the vague “later this fiscal year” has raised some eyebrows.

For those that might not know, a fiscal year isn’t the natural year that ends in 2022. In fact, the fiscal year for Take-Two doesn’t end until March 2023, which adds the potential delay could be until next year. Midnight Suns offers a promising look at Marvel’s mystical side with some familiar faces joining the fray to take on whatever threat is heading towards Earth.

Delays haven’t been too uncommon as of late, especially due to the nature of COVID making production cycles far less predictable. While some may not be happy to hear that the wait may be quite a bit longer, especially with a vague timeline given this time around, it does give the development team enough time to bring the project to life. In an industry plagued by crunch time, similarly to the VFX industry, this hopefully means the team also gets some time rather than continue having to push through endless hours.

  • RUMOR: ‘Black Panther’ Game Potentially in Development

RUMOR: ‘Black Panther’ Game Potentially in Development

Marvel has been expanding in many ways. Not only are we getting an onslaught of movies and TV series, but there’s also their gaming division. Marvel’s Avengers is still adding DLC with the new characters here or there, but that’s not all. We also have the upcoming releases of Midnight Suns, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine. As it turns out, there’s one more heading our way.

Jeff Grubb, who is quite well-known for dropping leaks in the past has just calmly revealed that there might be a Black Panther-focused game in development while commentating on the latest trailer drop from Marvel Studios. He doesn’t give away any details but seems to hint that more details will follow in an upcoming stream.

As he doesn’t really confirm any details we’ll take this with a grain of salt but given the character’s popularity, it would only be a question of time before he’d get his own game. Black Panther was a big focus of Marvel’s Avengers marketing campaign with Kratos himself, Christopher Judge voicing the character. It’s also unclear how far along this project might be if it turns out to be true.

There is one more aspect that should be considered and that is how they might approach that kind of game. An open-world game based in Wakanda and the forest surrounding it would be quite an experience. Though, they could also go for a more straightforward narrative game as you have to tackle various missions throughout the world and in his hometown. We’ll see if more comes of this with the upcoming streaem.

  • New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Inspired Armor

New ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Inspired Armor

Just recently, Marvel’s Avengers has released a brand new character in the form of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. Perfectly timed with the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, her addition offered those hoping to try out a slightly new character will offer exactly that. Now, it seems that this isn’t the only connection it’ll have with the Marvel release, as well-known Marvel’s Avengers leaker @mmmmmmmmiller has shared the first look on his Twitter account.

The armor in question getting added is sadly not Jane Foster’s but rather that of Thor. It looks like they’ve recreated the blue-gold armor that the God of Thunder will don at some point in the film. The latest Marvel Studios release will include a good variety of new costumes for the Thunderer. So, we’ll see what else may get added.

He’s also revealed a new skin that ties into the previous Taika Waititi release, Thor: Ragnarok. The skin is from earlier in the film that also includes a great little addition, as you’ll play Thor that is holding Surtur’s crown on his back.

These are some great additions to the game, especially for those that are big fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-ins. We’re still waiting for the next addition that lets you play some new missions, as it’s been a while since the release of the first Raid back in 2021. So, here’s hoping that the game is at a point where it rolls out more content once again and we’ll also see what other heroes may get added in the near future. For now, it seems we’ll hav ea few skins to tie us over.

  • SGF: Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Also Heading to PC This Year

SGF: Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Also Heading to PC This Year

Here’s a curious detail that was not showcased during the PlayStation’s State of Game is that not only is the Spider-Man Remaster heading to PC, but it’ll also be joined by its spinoff Miles Morales. It’s rather bizarre that the Insomniac game wasn’t featured during the actual event with the trailer. The Spider-Man Remastered is heading to PC on August 12th, 2022 while Miles Morales won’t release until Fall.

  • First Look at Canceled Marvel MMORPG’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse’ Inspired Design

First Look at Canceled Marvel MMORPG’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse’ Inspired Design

Daybreak has been trying to set up an MMORPG for Marvel for quite some time. They worked on it before it was eventually canceled, only to go through the entire process an additional time. We’ve long wondered what it was going to look like and many assumed it might be closer to what they’ve done on DC Universe Online. Yet, as shared by UI and Motion Designer, Ramiro Galan, it may have been quite a bit different than expected.

He took to his personal ArtStation to share concept art that was made, which was first shared on Reddit by u/LongJonSiIver. The designs were made by him, as they went for a stylistic design that would pay homage to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. It also seems to have some Pixar influences given the 3D Model’s designs that are being showcased.

The designs are actually pretty nice, though it does seem interesting that the power selection and outfits are mostly just t-shirts and pants. So, it doesn’t seem like you could make your own superhero costume, but that might be something you unlock while playing the game. Of course, what would be fun is to see the designs of the iconic Marvel heroes The selection of teams might just be something they’ve added as a base, but I’d be down for a game as a SHIELD agent in the world filled with superheroes. We’ll see if an MMORPG concept manages to pick up speed at another date potentially.

  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at Donny Cates-Inspired Thor Design

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Offers First Look at Donny Cates-Inspired Thor Design

Marvel’s Avengers has made a splash in its own way in the gaming industry with its first attempt at a Games-as-a-Service for the Marvel brand. If it achieved its goal it is hotly discussed, we still got a variety of skins that harken not only to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also their comic roots. It looks like one of Thor’s most famous costumes from recent years is making its way to the game soon, as leaked by @mmmmmmmmiller.

The design is definitely not an easy one to translate, especially with the details of the stars on his outfit. It seems they kept most of the armor and leg pieces from other designs but added the visually striking chest piece which may even have the glow from the comics. As it looks like an unfinished model, we have to take into account that it’ll very likely still go through some tweaks.

It’s been great seeing the team expand with more comic-inspired designs, as many were quite focused on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ll soon also get the addition of Jane Foster’s Thor who’ll also come with her own set of new skins. So, we’ll see if we even get the Thor: Love and Thunder design at some point added into the game.

  • Daybreak’s Marvel MMORPG Once Again Canceled

Daybreak’s Marvel MMORPG Once Again Canceled

Well, it seems that Daybreak’s visions of an MMORPG in the Marvel Universe may never truly come together, as it has been announced that the latest attempt has once again been squashed. It was initially announced back in November but it seems that EG7, Daybreak’s mother company has confirmed the canceled project. The statement was made as follows:

EG7 today announced it will be discontinuing the development of the Marvel project at Daybreak Games. Based on the re-evaluation of the development risk profile, size of investment, and the long-term product portfolio strategy for the group, the board has decided to change the development priorities and reallocate resources within the group to focus on alternative long-term projects.

This decision won’t deter any medium-term revenues and profits according to EG7, but it’s surprising that a second attempt would get canceled once again. They tried to get a project going back in 2018, but that project didn’t have any momentum before a second attempt would try to revive it. They have quite a bit of experience with comic book adaptations, such as their work on DC Universe Online, but no details are given about what led to the cancelation.

There have been hints that Marvel’s gaming license fee is quite steep, which makes long-term investments quite the gamble. Square-Enix invested quite a bit to get the license to work on four projects, which only managed to turn into the GaaS game Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s no word if there was another Marvel game in some form of development, and if we’d ever see it after they sold their entire Western division. As of now, it seems Marvel has made its home on the mobile market and PlayStation consoles.
