  • Kevin Feige Teases Marvel Studios ‘Young Avengers’

Kevin Feige Teases Marvel Studios ‘Young Avengers’

Marvel Studios Phase 4 has seen the introduction of Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Elijah Bradley, Kate Bishop and America Chavez. Those characters join Cassie Lang as members of the comic book team knowns as the Young Avengers who are currently making their respective ways through the MCU. With fans now familiar with the members of the core team, it seems just a matter of time before they find themselves assembling and avenging. At last night’s premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios One-Above-All Kevin Feige was asked what he could say about the potential future for the Young Avengers.

I think people pick up what we’re putting down, sometimes, and we take our cues from the comics. And yes, introducing as many characters as we can from the comics is what I’ve spent the last 22 years doing and those are among the many that we’ve introduced.

    Kevin Feige

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios was looking to develop a Young Avengers project not too long ago. As the Multiverse Saga goes on, it’s not clear if that project will be part of Phase 6, which now looks to begin in 2025 with Fantastic Four, or if their first team-up might take place in another live-action project. But given Feige’s response, it feels like fans should feel good about the chances of seeing them together sooner rather than later.

Kevin Feige Responds to Questions About the X-Men’s MCU Debut

The mutants are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe…in fact, some are already here. Ms. Marvel made a major change to Kamala Khan’s origins and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which premiered last night in Hollywood, introduced Namor, often known in the comics as The First Mutant, even though that’s a wildly misleading misnomer. But the question that everyone wants answered, including She-Hulk, is when are the X-Men going to join the fray.

Marvel Studios One-Above-All Kevin Feige was asked that very question at the Purple Carpet Premiere of Wakanda Forever and gave an answer all too familiar to this reporter: “No answer.

Feige did go on to give a little more information about the potential future of mutants in the MCU saying, “Deadpool and Wolverine…we’re getting close” in reference to the news that Hugh Jackman joined the cast of Deadpool 3, if that’s what it ends up being titled, after years of being pursued by co-star Ryan Reynolds.

Even with that little bit of information, Marvel Studios’ plans for the X-Men remain a tightly-guarded secret. Three years after the merger between Disney and Fox that allowed for the characters to be used in the MCU, no live-action X-Men projects have been announced and it’s unclear whether or not the X-Men are expected to play any role at all in Marvel Studios’ ongoing Multiverse Saga. The studio is, however, working on a revival of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series titled X-Men ’97, which is expected to stream on Disney Plus in 2023.

  • Charlize Theron Teases Clea’s Return to the MCU

Charlize Theron Teases Clea’s Return to the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow with many new iconic characters from the comics making their debut throughout the Phase 4 entries. While there are still quite a few questions on what the future has in store for them, there are a few that seemingly may have a bigger connection to the overarching plot of the Multiverse Saga. One of those characters is the recently introduced Clea, who appeared as a surprise cameo in the post-credit sequence of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Charlize Theron is taking on the role, but there hasn’t been any announcement or hint on when we might expect her in a future project. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she didn’t give away any details but did play around teasing that she is definitely going to return to the MCU at some point in the future.

Let’s just say I have some work to do… I don’t quite know who she is yet, but I will.

    Charlize Theron

Her introduction in the MCU was certainly a random addition that many might not have quite understood, especially with how fast the post-credit followed up the events that finished the film. It’ll be interesting to see how they explore her ties to Dormammu or even if we get a sequel to Doctor Strange that leads into the new Avengers films. The Multiverse Saga has only just begun and there are many possible routes where she could return.

“Lift Me Up” from the ‘Wakanda Forever’ Soundtrack Hitting Friday

After weeks of guessing, Marvel Studios has officially announced that Rihanna will have the lead single off the soundtrack to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was written by Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and Ryan Coogler and produced by Göransson.

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

    Tems

The soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By – will be available on Nov. 4th through Roc Nation Records/Def Jam Recordings/Hollywood Records. It’s being produced by Coogler, Göransson, Archie Davis and Dave Jordan. While the original score, composed and produced by Göransson, will hit on Nov. 11th through Hollywood Records.

  • Hugh Jackman Talks Returning as Wolverine, Teases Title Change for ‘Deadpool 3’

Hugh Jackman Talks Returning as Wolverine, Teases Title Change for ‘Deadpool 3’

Ryan Reynolds shocked fans around the world when he revealed that he had coaxed Hugh Jackman into reprising the role of Wolverine for Marvel Studios Deadpool 3. Jackman was adamant that his work with the character, who he played in nine films over seventeen years, and gave the character a proper send-off in 2017’s Logan. However, according to Jackman, discussions about a potential return as the character have been ongoing for longer than anyone might have thought.

In an interview with Variety, Jackman admits that the topic has been on his mind since seeing Deadpool in 2016, before he had begun filming Logan, but after he had publicly stated it would be his last hurrah as the character.

I went to a screening of ‘Deadpool.’ I was 20 minutes in, and I was like, ‘Ah, damn it!’” Jackman said. “All I kept seeing in my head was ‘48 Hrs.’ with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. So it’s been brewing for a long time. It just took me longer to get here.

    Hugh Jackman

According to Jackman, Reynolds was eager to get him involved with Deadpool 3, especially once Marvel Studios gained the live-action rights to the characters in Disney’s 2019 merger with Fox, asking him “on the daily” to consider a Wolverine and Deadpool team-up. It wasn’t until this August (after Jackman believed that Reynolds had given up), however, that Jackman agreed to the deal.

Currently scheduled for a release date of November 8th, 2024, filming is expected to begin on the film next year. And while it’s been referred to as Deadpool 3, Jackman says that title might have to change. “I’m pretty sure Wolverine wouldn’t like that title,” teased Jackman in his interview with Variety. Surely Reynolds won’t begrudge a title change that includes Wolverine, given how long he’s pursued Jackman for the project.

  • ‘The Batman 2’ Won’t Be in Theaters Any Time Soon

‘The Batman 2’ Won’t Be in Theaters Any Time Soon

As news comes of Warner Bros. hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the way for the newly-minted DC Studios, fans of Matt Reeves’ The Batman also received a disappointing update on the sequel to the 2022 film. According to Variety’s Zack Sharf, The Batman 2 won’t be headed to theaters for at least another 3 years.

Sharf reported that the film, which Reeves began developing in April of 2022, is still without a complete script. The director had already been planning the sequel long before that, but is also involved in and overseeing the creation of several other projects based in and around the Gotham of his Batman Universe. Even with the shift to a DC Films DC Universe, the studio seems to remain committed to Reeves’ projects, though it’s unclear what, if any, connectivity they will share with the future DCU. At the moment, Reeves’ Gotham-verse looks to consist of the Colin Farrell-led HBO Max series, The Penguin, an Arkham Asylum series being developed by showrunner Antonio Campos, and multiple films focusing on Batman’s Rogues Gallery with characters such as Scarecrow, Clayface and Professor Pyg among those up for solo outings.

With all that going on, it’s easy to see how Reeves may not have The Batman 2 out in theaters anytime soon. However, it’s clear that there’s both an audience for Reeves’ vision and support for it at DC Studios, so while fans will have a bit of a wait, at least it won’t be a stressful one.

  • Rihanna Releasing New Song from ‘Wakanda Forever’ This Week

Rihanna Releasing New Song from ‘Wakanda Forever’ This Week

Last week, it was rumored that Rihanna had recorded songs for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. Now, Marvel Studios has confirmed the singer is set to release a new song for the movie later this week. The news was revealed by the studio on social media, with the Wakanda Forever changing into a lone ‘R’ with 10.28.2002 written beneath it.

News of Rihanna‘s involvement with the movie was first reported by Hits Daily Double. At the time, the station claimed the singer had recorded two songs for the soundtrack. While it remains to be seen how many songs Rihanna contributed to the soundtrack overall, fans will surely be excited just to have new music from the singer.

Kendrick Lamar curated the soundtrack for the first movie, Black Panther, that included the likes of Lamar, The WeekndZacari and Jorja Smith. The soundtrack also spawned the hit singles “All the Stars” and “Pray for Me.” As of this writing, the remainder of the soundtrack’s artists has not been revealed.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is co-written and directed by Ryan Coogler. It is set to hit theaters on Nov. 11th. Tickets are on sale now.

  • ‘Joker’ Sequel Not Part of DC Studios, Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Franchise Uncertain

‘Joker’ Sequel Not Part of DC Studios, Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Franchise Uncertain

The news not too long ago broke that Warner Bros. Discovery has found its new head(s) of the newly founded DC Studios. Walter Hamada’s former DC Films now has two co-CEOs in The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and long-time producer Peter Safran. Of course, the studio’s plans, at least what WBD CEO David Zaslav imagines, will create its own cinematic universe moving forward. So, it opens the question of what that means for other entries in the franchise such as the Joker sequel and Matt Reeve‘s The Batman franchise.

Todd Phillips‘ upcoming Joker: Folie á Deux will not be supervised by the newly formed CEO duo but rather fall under the supervision of Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy. As such, it seems very likely that this project will act independently from the other DC projects, especially as it mainly explores a unique take on a familiar character. Matt ReevesThe Batman universe however is the biggest question mark to date. While we just got the news that they are moving forward with an Arkham Asylum-based series, it seems that its place in the universe is still uncertain.

We might have to wait a bit before we find out any actual details on what the future of the DCEU will look like; if it’ll have that name moving forward. The Batman will likely continue given the recent success of the first film’s entry with Penguin’s spinoff already starting production. It does seem like they won’t be rebooting the entire franchise but use the current projects as a jumping-off point. Black Adam just released and various other projects are already ins some form of development. So, we’ll have to see if they are just waiting for The Flash to reboot the franchise.

  • BREAKING: James Gunn and Peter Safran to Lead DC Studios

BREAKING: James Gunn and Peter Safran to Lead DC Studios

DC has been desperately looking for Kevin Feige to lead their DC division to rival that of Marvel Studios. Up to this point, it didn’t seem like anyone was truly interested in the job, mostly due to the current development with Warner Bros. Discovery. Still, it seems their long search has not resulted in one but rather two new leads for the division.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have been tapped to lead the DC’s future film, TV, and animation slates. They will act as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, which was recently led by Walter Hamada under the title of DC Films. It’s definitely a curious development and we’ll see just how big their role will be under CEO David Zaslav, who is seemingly cutting down projects left and right. For now, it seems they have a four-year deal for now.

It seems that the two have been spotted for some time on the Warners lot meeting with Warner Bors. film co-chair Michael De Luca, but most assumed it could be for future projects. As it turns out, they have some bigger projects in mind. Though Gunn‘s role as co-CEO does raise the question of what his future as a director will look like. He is returning for Peacemaker Season 2, but he may have to pull back with the new workload on his back.

The title of DC Studios will likely pull in even more comparisons to Marvel Studios, but the question remains what exactly the plans are? At the moment, the studio still has multiple projects that take place in their own dimensions within the cinematic multiverse, but there’s no clear goal or if they will try to establish a “mainline” universe as the Marvel Cinematic Universe did. For now, we’ll have to see once actual plans come together.

  • ‘Planet of the Apes’ Sequel Adds Five New Cast Members

‘Planet of the Apes’ Sequel Adds Five New Cast Members

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes just gained five more inhabitants. Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Lydia Peckham, and Ras-Samuel Weld A’abzgi have all joined the cast of the upcoming Apes sequel, which is set to begin a new chapter in the decades-long saga. They join the previously announced Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, and Kevin Durand to round out an impressive ensemble. There are currently no details on their roles or, truthfully, the plot of the film, but the latest entry in the franchise is expected to take place in the same universe as Matt Reeves‘ critically-acclaimed trilogy. The Maze Runner‘s Wes Ball will take over directing duties, as Reeves has moved on to his Batman projects.

Jeffrey is best known for his roles in films like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken, along with television appearances in projects such as AMC’s Preacher and Netflix’s Heartbreak High. Sandilands recently appeared in Netflix’s surprise hit Sweet Tooth and has found plenty of work at The CW in shows like The Flash and The 100. Wiseman is currently starring in Peacock’s mystery series One Of Us Is Lying, while Welda’abzgi can next be seen in the Disney+ original series, The Clearing. As for Peckham, she is perhaps best known for her role in Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation, as well as a litany of indie projects like Only Cloud Knows and Take Home Pay.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to release on May 24th, 2024.
