REPORT: Runtime for ‘Ms. Marvel’s First 2 Episodes Revealed

As first reactions are hitting the web from Ms. Marvel, we also get some teases on what the first two episodes have to offer for those excited to check out Marvel Studios’ latest project. There’s always some excitement, or even uncertainty, about the runtime of these episodes as Marvel Studios has not truly broken beyond the one-hour mark with its drama series. It looks like the same can be said for the

The first episode of Ms. Marvel will be 47 minutes long with the sequel running for two minutes longer. As per usual, it also includes the usual credits that are different depending on what region you are from, as they also include the local dub actors. So, keep that in mind if the runtime is slightly off in your local region.

The runtime discussion has been an interesting one, as many have gotten the feeling that Marvel isn’t using more time to fully explore these stories. As we’re seeing these projects as quite new for Marvel Studios, who mainly focused on three cinematic productions per year. As they expand, they likely have to adjust to it and we’ll see how they learn moving forward.

Ms. Marvel will explore the story of Kamala Khan. A young teenager who looks up to the heroes she grew up admiring, only to suddenly gain a special ability of her own. As the Pakistani-American tries to find out what she is truly capable of, Khan also has to balance her studies, avoiding high school’s usual trappings and the watchful eye of her family.

  • New ‘Ms.Marvel’ Documentary Special to Release Ahead of Disney+ Premiere

New ‘Ms.Marvel’ Documentary Special to Release Ahead of Disney+ Premiere

Here’s a pleasant surprise, as it looks like a new exclusive look and documentary short will be released ahead of the series premiere of Ms. Marvel. The special will include a look back at her comic origins, as well as how they brought the Disney+ series to life with interviews. The team behind the series, as well as Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan, will be part of the new documentary short titled A Fan’s Guide to Ms. Marvel.” The short is currently eyeing a June 1st release.

There are no further details currently on what will be included and if it includes entire footage from the series, or if it may focus on the interviews. The June release is just a week away from the Disney+ series premiere. So, we’ll likely see a similar tease like with Hawkeye back during Disney+ Day, which also included a brief segment from a future episode of the December series ahead of its premiere.

There’s a lot of history even if the character was only introduced in 2013. It’s a nice touch to introduce the character to people that might want to catch up with her comic history before jumping into the series. Plus, we might see more of this small documentary when they introduce new character’s to the franchise that some might not be too familiar with. We’ll see if we might get something similar with the release of She-Hulk in the future, as they find a way to ease in new viewers to these characters as the MCU continues to expand with new characters that are more obscure than others.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Damage Control Actor Will Appear in ‘Ms. Marvel’

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Damage Control Actor Will Appear in ‘Ms. Marvel’

In an intricately intertwined universe like the MCU, small connections and crossovers are constantly building to larger things. The official fact sheet for Disney+’s Ms. Marvel has revealed one of these potential connections.

Listed in the cast is actor Arian Moayed. MCU fans would recognize Moayed as Department of Damage Control Agent P. Clearly, who interrogates Peter Parker early on in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Moayed had only a minor role, the fact that he will make his way to Jersey City in Ms. Marvel could suggest a growing presence of Damage Control in the MCU.

The Department of Damage control first made its MCU appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a joint venture between Stark Industries and the federal government in response to the damage left behind after Avengers battles.

While Moayed’s character is not officially confirmed to be Agent Cleary, it only makes sense that the character could act as sort of a figure head for the slowly-growing presence of Damage Control, similarly to how Clark Greg’s Phil Coulson teased S.H.I.E.L.D. across several films. The Department is even set to appear in August’s She-Hulk.

The full scope of Damage Control’s presence in the MCU going forward is not yet known, but superheroes and the destruction they inevitably leave in their wake has certainly been on people’s minds following films like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Far From Home. As Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel rises as a superhero, she may find herself in a climate much more hostile to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes than those who came before her had to deal with.

Ms. Marvel premieres exclusively on Disney+ on June 8.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Almost Featured Too Many Iron Man References

‘Ms. Marvel’ Almost Featured Too Many Iron Man References

As the next installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all eyes are on the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, whose admiration of Captain Marvel leads her to don the Ms. Marvel mantle after she discovers she has mysterious abilities. Khan is primed to be a major heroic force for the future of the MCU, so it will be interesting to watch the growth of a superhero who came of age admiring them herself.

Vellani herself is a well-known MCU superfan, and apparently, Iron Man is her go-to comfort film. Considering the 2008 film began the MCU, her love of it is fitting for both her and Kamala Khan. The actress explained:

The first thing I did when I got cast was watch Iron Man again. It’s like my comfort movie. Any big milestone we would hit in the show, whether it was filming the scene where Kamala gets her costume or her powers, I would watch Iron Man. “It was my reminder that this character exists in the same universe as Tony Stark, which was just the coolest thing in the world for me.

    Iman Vellani

It turns out that that love made its way into Ms. Marvel in the form of references to the late Tony Stark and Iron Man easter eggs. In a world full of Stark fans and those grateful for his sacrifice to defeat Thanos, it makes perfect sense. Apparently, though, there got to be too many references for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to agree to. According to the actress, Feige stepped in to limit the number of references to Iron Man eventually:

I’m a huge, huge Iron Man fan. I know Kamala is more Captain Marvel, but I was very much asking for more Iron Man references in there. Like, ‘I think she needs an Iron Man action figure, more Iron Man.’ There was a point where we got to too much Iron Man, that was the note from Kevin!

    Iman Vellani

Even though Tony Stark is dead and gone, fans still can’t get enough of him. But Feige had plenty of reasons to limit the easter eggs, including to possibly avoid the possibility that some viewers would accuse Marvel Studios of making a younger hero an Iron Man mini-me, like the “Iron Boy Jr.” nickname for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Ms. Marvel first premieres on Disney+ on June 8, 2022.

  • Iman Vellani on How ‘Ms. Marvel’ is a “More Lighthearted” Marvel Studios Series

Iman Vellani on How ‘Ms. Marvel’ is a “More Lighthearted” Marvel Studios Series

When we got the first trailer for Ms. Marvel, it looked like the series was fully embracing its high school aesthetic. Teenagers facing their usual challenges but with the added bonus of Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan becoming a superhero and being a Pakistani-American. In a new interview with Zavvi, the young actress highlights their approach and teases a “more lighthearted” Marvel Studios series.

It is John Hughes-esque mixed with Lady Bird and Scott Pilgrim. It’s a lot more lighthearted than the other shows. We showcase that being a teenager is awkward, corny, and weird.

    Iman Vellani

She goes on to highlight that the series is going to be quite self-aware of the fact that it explores the challenges of “growing up” and when the smallest issues feel like the world is falling apart around you.

We are self-aware of how cheesy the show gets sometimes, but when you are growing up everything is so heightened – your emotions, crushes, friendships – it all feels so new. Minor inconveniences also feel like the end of the world.

    Iman Vellani

The Ms. Marvel creative team also wanted to ensure that they are as authentic as possible. To accomplish that very task, they’ve enlisted the help of the cast who are fresh out of high school to bring in their lived experiences of what it’s like being a modern teenager.

The creators and directors have done a great job in working with the cast, asking us to share our experiences and bring ourselves to the characters. It was very collaborative. We are pretty young and just come out of high school, so that made the show as authentic as possible.

    Iman Vellani

It definitely sounds like we’ll fully embrace the high school storytelling in this series, something we’ve gotten a glimpse of in Spider-Man: Homecoming as well. It’ll be interesting to see the difference between these projects as they showcase the different lived experiences of teenagers.

  • ‘The Marvel’s Composer Also Worked on ‘Ms. Marvel’s Score

‘The Marvel’s Composer Also Worked on ‘Ms. Marvel’s Score

It looks like Laura Karpman has been quite busy, as Variety has just revealed that she composed the score for Ms. Marvel, which will make its debut in just a few weeks. The five-time Emmy winner has worked on a variety of projects such as HBO’s Lovecraft Country and also worked on the MCU projects What If…? and will be busy with next year’s The Marvels. Her working on both projects where Iman Vellani will take on the role of Kamala Khan is quite interesting and might add some nice connective tissue between them. She shares her enthusiasm for joining the project in the following statement:

I am thrilled to be a part of a wonderfully diverse team that is bringing Kamala Khan off the pages of her comic book and into your homes this June. She is an epic superhero hailing from a rich musical heritage that was a joy to be immersed in.

    Laura Karpman

It definitely seems like they want to keep some connectivity between these projects, especially with Ms. Marvel potentially building into the upcoming MCU film. It’ll b interesting to see how they might also differentiate between each other, but given the fact, Captain Marvel plays a key role in the young Pakistani-American’s growing role into a superhero, it wouldn’t be surprising if we get the newest rendition of her theme song in the film. So, we’ll get a tase of what’s to come in June luckily.

  • SFX Cover Offers Best Look Yet at ‘Ms. Marvel’s’ Costume

SFX Cover Offers Best Look Yet at ‘Ms. Marvel’s’ Costume

With the conclusion of Moon Knight and the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios’ next project is officially the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Starring Imani Vellani as lead character Kamala Khan, the show is set to introduce to live-action one of the most beloved characters in more recent Marvel comics.

The titular Ms. Marvel gains mysterious powers and takes on a version of the Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel mantle as she is inspired by the elder Marvel to become a superhero herself. While the series is making major changes to Khan’s powers, previous images and promo art have made it clear that the young superhero’s look will be incredibly comics accurate. Now, the cover of next month’s SFX has been shared, and it offers a full look at Ms. Marvel’s suit. Check it out below:

The image should get fans of Ms. Marvel comics excited for the series, as the costume itself is arguably one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most comics-accurate adaptations to date. Vellani has been praised by all of those working on the show, including Kevin Feige, for being the perfect casting choice for Kamala. While the debate on her power changes will never end, fans hopefully will find more comfort in their opinions once they actually have a chance to watch Ms. Marvel.

  • New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Promo Art Pays Tribute to Comics

New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Promo Art Pays Tribute to Comics

Marvel Studios has been busy shifting gear to focus on their next Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. The story of Kamala Khan will see Marvel introduce their first Pakistani-American superhero to live action. Iman Vellani takes on the heroic role and in a new bit of promo art they pay tribute to a classic comic cover.

It’s always great when they pay tribute to the comics. Here’s hoping that we also get some new posters that include references to the comic covers, as they perfectly showcase the teenage heroes attitude.

The first poster for Ms. Marvel included a cover reference to her sitting on a street lamp. While the second had a more unique design, there’s still a chance we could get more paying tribute, perhaps with the character posters.

  • Kevin Feige on Iman Vellani’s Influence on ‘Ms. Marvel’

Kevin Feige on Iman Vellani’s Influence on ‘Ms. Marvel’

Iman Vellani has the challenging task of taking on the role of Kamala Khan, Marvel’s first Muslim-American superhero. The character made headlines when she first was revealed back in 2014 and now Vellani will lead the new Ms. Marvel Disney+ show. While she’s a relative newcomer, she made quite the impression when she auditioned for the role.

It seems that she prepared a hand-written list of 50 questions regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which she handed to Kevin Feige on the set of Ms. Marvel. It seems he still has kept the list to this day that includes “really granular stuff.” He goes on to compare her to Tom Holland and his passion for the franchise.

Much like Tom Holland and Peter Parker, Iman is a much bigger Marvel fan than we realized.

    Kevin Feige

It’s great to see actors involved with the project share the same passion that not only fans do but the many people behind the scenes trying to bring the franchise to life. He highlighted that she also played an important part in giving her input as the show evolves.

She carries this Unabomber notebook with her everywhere, with scribbles and ideas. And why wouldn’t we want to hear them? Not just because she’s playing the lead, but because if she wasn’t playing the lead, she’d be commenting on the show online. So better comment before the show’s done, and try to incorporate the best of those ideas.

    Kevin Feige

It certailny sounds like she was a bundle of energy during the Disney+ seris production, perfectly showcasing the same mentality that the comic’s Kamala Khan has. The way he described it is better she comments while they’re working on it is a sweet moment and we’ll see what ideas of hers made it into the final product once it aris in June.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Directors Reveal Surprising Influences on Disney+ Show

‘Ms. Marvel’ Directors Reveal Surprising Influences on Disney+ Show

Many modern-day projects have a wide variety of influences that help inspire their visuals, storytelling approach, and core concepts. Sometimes there are some surprising additions that help make the project still stand out amongst many others. It looks like Disney+’s upcoming Ms. Marvel series has some rather curious inspirations. Director duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah talk about the many inspirations that helped them bring the project to life.

A big part of the adjustment for them was working outside of their “comfort zone” of R-ratings, as they “can’t go full Bad Boys” with a project that focuses on a younger audience. Still, they talked out the many influences that helped shape the film such as Spike Lee‘s iconic tracking shot, VFX influences taken from anime, and many teen classics, such as John Hughes films, Booksmart, Scott Pilgram vs. the World and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.

It’ll be interesting to see how Anime has influenced some of the VFX effects, especially with how varied the designs are from one animation to another. Scott Pilgram‘s influences are pretty obvious with the animated think bubbles and some of the reactions in the initial trailer. Here’s hoping they also dive deep into some fun transitions, which made that film a standout back when it was released. Spike Lee is also such a curious choice, but them using his famous tracking shots could lead to some iconic visual designs to make the series pop in comparison to the rest.
