  • Sony Releasing New 4K Box Sets of Original ‘Spider-Man’ Films in Time for ‘No Way Home’

Sony Releasing New 4K Box Sets of Original ‘Spider-Man’ Films in Time for ‘No Way Home’

In the entertainment industry, timing is everything. Especially comic book movies involve a lot more with merchandising and utilizing the synergy to nab an extra buck. So, when a project has a lot of mysteries surrounding it, all eyes are on various merchandising or tie-ins to figure out what is heading our way. Sony especially has been analyzed on their every action ever since rumors started circling that Spider-Man: No Way Home will include more than just a single Spider-Man. So, the latest announcement is certain to add more to the discussion.

Sony has decided to re-release all films featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as 4K Ultra HD deluxe box sets. The original Spider-Man trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man 2-film edition will release on November 8th just in time to give everyone a chance to catch up on their films. Of course, the confirmed inclusion of villains from both films adds a nice synergy to bank on, as people might want to catch up with Alfred Molina‘s Doctor Octopus who has been heavily featured in its trailers and official images.

Of course, besides the villains, there’s still the rumor that Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield might have a role in the film. So, their release will likely add to the speculation surrounding No Way Home, which will not only end Tom Holland‘s trilogy but pay tribute to the films that came before. We’re still anxiously awaiting the next trailer, which might offer a clearer picture what other references we can expect in the threequel entry of the MCU.

  • Tom Holland Hints at a Mystery Character in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Tom Holland Hints at a Mystery Character in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Empire Magazine’s coverage of Spider-Man: No Way Home has been full of interesting quotes but none to date are going to cause as much of a conversation as this one. While discussing his time on the Spider threequel, Tom Holland described “one of the coolest scenes” he’s ever shot and noted that he shared the scene with Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau and an unnamed actor.

The scene, as described by Holland, includes his Peter Parker sitting at a table with his Aunt May, Happy Hogan and the unrevealed character discussing what it’s like to be a superhero. Given Holland’s hesitancy to reveal anymore info about the scene, it’s pretty clear he’s not talking about Doctor Strange, meaning Holland is confirming that there are some “surprises” still in store for the audience.

For close to a year now, the worst kept secret in Hollywood has been that the film would see characters from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-films enter the MCU, including those versions of Peter/Spidey. The first trailer showed us Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and hinted at Willem Dafoe’s Goblin and Emprire’s coverage has mentioned the multiversal nature of the new film, so it’s easy to imagine the scene Holland described being one in which an older Parker (Maguire or Garfield) sits down to discuss the superhero business. Such a conversation would be a fantastic time to have a philosophical discussion about the interpretation of the Uncle Ben’s advice and provide an opportunity for one of the other Spideys to shine.

With a new trailer expected sometime soon, maybe we’ll get answers to some of these questions…then again, maybe Sony will just keep us guessing until Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17th.

  • Kevin Feige Calls Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus “Perfect Casting”

Kevin Feige Calls Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus “Perfect Casting”

It was in April when Alfred Molina simply confirmed his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home. There were countless rumors and theories regarding the return and the actor seemed quite happy to share the information. It was a surprising turn of events, as Marvel studios might be one of the most secretive companies in the industry with strict NDAs. Yet, his open confirmation may have also led to his inclusion in the first trailer, as he signals the beginning of the multiverse.

In the latest issue by Empire, we’ll finally get some coverage on No Way Home, as we inch closer to his December release. In it, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige briefly teased the upcoming film and how Alfred Molina was “perfect casting” that they never could replicate. As such, entering the multiverse was the perfect way to avoid that issue and bring the actor back in to tackle the role one last time. As he put it:

I remember having discussions with Amy Pascal years ago. Do we want to revisit villains we’ve seen before?’ No, let’s do Vulture, and Mysterio, and characters we haven’t brought to the screen before. But I remember thinking, ‘How would you even do Doc Ock again?’, because Alfred Molina is perfect casting. If you ever brought him back, it would have to be him somehow.

Of course, Molina’s take on the character has become an important icon in cinematic villainy. Still, we’ve seen countless versions of the character since that added their own spin. A personal favorite is Scott David Menville‘s interpretation in 2018’s Spider-Man game. There’s also Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s reinterpretation of the character Olivia Octavius, who was brought to life by the always incredible Kathryn Hahn. So, there are opportunities to expand the character from a live-action perspective, but Molina‘s return feels like a perfect final send-off for the character and the franchises that came before.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ To Be the Franchise’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ To Be the Franchise’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’

It’s crazy to think that the current version of Spider-Man on the silver screen came from a conversation between Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal. A discussion that ended with a sandwich being flung his way led to a brand new trilogy that’s about to break open the cinematic multiverse as we know it. The return of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and potentially more iconic faces from the franchise’s long history to appear. So, it’s not a surprise for director Jon Watts to compare it to the recent franchise juggernaut of the MCU, Avengers: Endgame.

We’re definitely trying to be ambitious. It’s ‘Spider-Man: Endgame’,” he says, laughing, but seemingly not joking. Part of that ambition?

    Jon Watts

In the same interview, Tom Holland also shared his excitement when he initially made the pitch for the upcoming third entry to include actors from former Spider-Man films. In a way, he believed it was only a joke reference and that it would never happen or get pulled off.

When I was first pitched the idea, I was like, ‘Wow, that would be awesome if we could pull it off’. But there’s just no way it’s going to work. You’re just not going to be able to get everyone to do what they need to do. It’s just not going to happen.’ But it did happen. And it’s crazy.

    Tom Holland

It’s certainly insane to think we’re about to enter the multiverse in a big way. With Sony announcing two new Marvel films for 2023, it makes you wonder if they’ll build upon whatever No Way Home sets up. Venom: Let There Be Carnage did tease a potential connection and it might just be the beginning for Holland‘s Spider-Man into the vast multiverse.

  • New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Image Teases Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock

New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Image Teases Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock

Ever since the rumors started, it seemed like a crazy idea that Spider-Man would face off against villains from past film franchises. Yet, once the trailer dropped, it all changed. We got various teases throughout the trailer until the final confirmation that Alfred Molina will indeed return as Doctor Octopus. We only briefly saw him at the tail end of the trailer, as he greets Peter. Sadly, the trailer ends there as Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker equips the Iron Spider. Our wait for more has finally come to an end, as Empire shared new exclusive images with one featuring Spidey running away from his new nemesis, who is about to throw a car at him.

The chosen image is certainly a curious one given how blurry it is. It certainly looks like Spidey knows that he might not have a chance against Doc Ock, but there’s a fun idea of both using their expendable limbs against each other. Yet, he’s using the most advanced version of his suit and is seemingly running away from his new enemy. Perhaps he realizes what he has unleashed and is trying to figure out a way to take him down. To his dismay, this version of Doc Ock already faced off against a Spider-Man and might know his tricks.

We luckily also got a second image teasing Parker’s suit from Far From Home, which might become a stable design throughout the film. The Empire cover did tease a combination of both designs that he’ll wear at some point in the story. There’s also the black-gold suit that was teased through merchandise and briefly in the first trailer. It’s going to be interesting to see how he’ll juggle all these villains and different costumes throughout the potentially 150-minute long film.

  • RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Runtime Potentially Shorter Than ‘Eternals’

RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Runtime Potentially Shorter Than ‘Eternals’

There’s been much discussion surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home. We have no idea when we can expect the next trailer, as we inch closer to its December release. With all the various leaked and rumored characters, it seemed like the film might give Avengers: Endgame a run for its money. So, it seemed like the perfect fit for a three-hour entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the upcoming Eternals film passed Avengers: Infinity War‘s runtime. A new tweet by well-known scooper Daniel Richtman‘s second account may give us a clearer indication.

He started with a tweet that simply included “30:2” before later revealing it was about a potential runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. So, it’ll total around 150 minutes. As such, it’ll have a similar length to films like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. In comparison to previous Spider-Man entries, Homecoming ran for 133 minutes while Far From Home was 129 minutes.

Marvel Studios has been playing around with longer runtimes for its films, especially as they started to explore larger concepts. It’s no longer origin stories or the focus on singular heroes. Instead, they’ve started adding more crossovers between characters to further interconnect the ever-expanding MCU. Doctor Strange seemingly has a larger role in the film and has a guiding role for the young Peter Parker. The longer runtimes are starting to make sense given their approach to the MCU films in the future.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Empire Cover Teases the Film’s Villains

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Empire Cover Teases the Film’s Villains

The wait for this next installment in the Spider-Man franchise from Marvel Studios has felt like an eternity. With so much news and so many rumors about what’s going on, we just can’t wait to get our next good look at the film. On top of it all, the promotion on the film has been quite scarce, as we’ve only gotten one trailer. The film is slowly inching closer to its release date and Sony remains quiet.

Luckily, a new look at the film from Empire Magazine has given us a look at a new suit. Not just that, we are even given a tease at who Spidey will be up against this time. The first trailer for the film teased the return of Doc Ock and Green Goblin but the subscriber cover for December’s issue seems to confirm a few more rumored foes. Alongside the pumpkin bombs and Doc Ock’s mechanical arms, you can clearly see a fist made of sand, a green and yellow lightning bolt, as well as a mysterious yet familiar dome.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently set to hit theaters exclusively on December 17th, 2021. The film will feature the return of Tom Hollands Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Marisa Tomei. While there still seems to be a lot secrets surrounding this film, it could be one of, if not, Marvel studios most ambitious films to date and the start of the MCU’s next big saga.

  • New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Empire Cover Offers a Closer Look at a New Suit

New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Empire Cover Offers a Closer Look at a New Suit

Over time, it’s incredible how many rumored characters and storylines are potentially included in Spider-Man: No Way Home. As such, there’s been a lot of uncertainty on what we can truly expect from the film. The only real confirmations we got were the various suits he’ll wear in the upcoming film. It wasn’t until the trailer dropped that we at least got the tease of Green Goblin and Alfred Molina‘s return as Doc Ock. The promotion has been silent ever since. At least, that was until now.

Empire has unveiled a new cover featuring the wallcrawler alongside Ock’s mechanical tentacles and the pumpkin bombs from Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man film. In it, we also get a good look at one of Spidey’s new costumes that got teased through the merchandise release. It’s not the Black-Gold suit or even the returning Iron Spider costume, but the one that seems like a natural combination of the latter with his base suit from Far From Home.

It’s quite the stylish design and the way they added What If…?’s reflection effect to bring the multiverse to life is a nice touch. We also get a small nod to the magical webbing that was teased with the reveal of the black-gold suit is a nice addition. Of course, the Empire magazine is also the tease of more coverage in the near future as well as a potential second trailer. It’s still crazy we’re waiting for a poster.

  • Tom Holland Teases More “Visceral” Fights and Working with Alfred Molina

Tom Holland Teases More “Visceral” Fights and Working with Alfred Molina

The highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home is fast approaching. Fans are clamoring for any information on the secretive third installment of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise. Sony and Marvel Studios have been keeping mum on the project, but luckily Holland gave an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he teased what is heading our way. He shared his excitement working alongside actor Alfred Molina, who is set to reprise his role as Dr. Otto Octavius or Doc Ock. He’ll reprise the role for the first time since his beloved performance alongside Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in 2004’s Spider-Man 2. He went on to say that:

[He’s] one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with…It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced. When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they’re all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it.

    Tom Holland

Holland also teased that No Way Home will feature fight scenes that are “a lot more visceral,” and with “a lot more hand-to-hand combat.” Based on the actor’s comments, it looks like fans can expect to see more creativity in the film’s action sequences than we’ve previously seen with Holland’s Spider-Man. As the trailer teased several adversaries and even Doctor Strange, he’ll have to change up his tactic. A toy leak did tease his new magical webbing which will also add some new flair to his move set once the film releases this December.

  • Andy Serkis Confirms Venom and Spider-Man Are on a Collision Course

Andy Serkis Confirms Venom and Spider-Man Are on a Collision Course

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has already surpassed $100M at the domestic box off all but assuring that that film will continue to spawn as many potential sequels and spinoffs as there have been symbiotes in the franchise. While the film has done well at the box office, it’s the post-credit scene that has had everyone buzzing and, according to director Andy Serkis, Sony plans to make good on the promise of the tease of the two separate movie universes colliding by bringing Spider-Man and Venom face-to-face. Serkis explained in an interview with ComicBook.com.

We wanted to leave the audience knowing that these universes are going to somehow collide and we wanted to do it in such a way that it still leaves so much open and we’re not timing anything. The portal is not being crossed fully. It’s opening up more questions, I suppose, rather than sort of firmly saying [anything]….It is a tease. It’s a tease, in the fullest sense of the word.

The tease saw Venom and Eddie Brock transported from their universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe where a television broadcast by J. Jonah Jameson seemingly put Spider-Man in Venom’s sights as a potential bad guy. While Tom Holland‘s Spidey has, so far, only appeared in films that have taken place in the MCU, Sony holds the live-action rights to the character and the ability to use the character in whatever ways they see fit. And as Serkis said, while there’s no timeline that’s yet been revealed, the plans are in place to have Spidey and Venom share the screen for the first time since Sam Raimi’s 2007 Spider-Man 3.

With the big post-credit scene seemingly taking place in the MCU and Kevin Feige once pointing out that Holland’s Spider-Man was the only MCU character who could hop through universe, we’ll have to wait to see WHERE the Spidey/Venom showdown takes place. It’s also worth noting that while it wasn’t too long ago that the two studios had seemingly come to an impasse and were putting their collaborative days behind them, this level of crossover might indicate a new and deeper commitment to working together, something that if done correctly, could only serve to strengthen both franchise’s universe.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is in theaters now and Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters on December 17th.
