  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Eyeing January Release

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Eyeing January Release

There was a lot of drama this year when it was announced that Spider-Man would be an exclusive character for Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers game. As the character’s latest single-player game was a PlayStation exclusive, Sony jumped at the chance to keep that brand consistency. Of course, we have no idea how exactly this would work with consistent updates promised for all systems. We have no idea when he would be released with some rumors pointing him to being a March addition. Well, an eagle-eyed reader of the PlayStation magazine noticed a little detail during their Spider-Man: Miles Morales coverage. u/icematt12 noticed that a small section on the Avengers game states that Spidey will release in January.

This is actually a huge reveal, as we were uncertain when he would release. Also, this is from the official PlayStation Magazine, so there is some validity to it. So far, the only confirmed characters are next month’s Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and Black Panther. The latest State of the Game hinted at a War Table coming next month that will give us a clearer picture. Keep in mind that anything can also change, as CD is currently facing delays due to the first month being quite rocky.

So, for now, take this as a potential release window and no official confirmation until the developers actually give us a date. Still, it is helpful to get a feeling for when we can expect him, and early 2021 is a good estimate for now. Our best guess is to wait for next month’s War Table video to give us some insight into what Crystal Dynamics is working on and when we can expect it. Hopefully, things will be much clearer for the coming months.

  • ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Revealed as PlayStation Exclusive

‘Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Revealed as PlayStation Exclusive

I only played the initial Five Nights at Freddy’s game but the lore had kept my interest in the franchise. Something about the way this game told its story and hid a lot of easter eggs throughout the franchise was intriguing. A strange part of me wants to try out the virtual-reality game Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted. Sadly, I just do not own a VR headset for the console. I was always curious about returning to the franchise and it looks like I might get that chance. The next entry in the franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach has been revealed as a PlayStation exclusive.

Not going to lie, that trailer is perfectly creepy. It seems we’ll play a kid named Gregory that managed to enter this location after closing hours. The voice-over seems to want to keep you safe but fans of the franchise will know that isn’t the case. Suddenly, a male voice takes over warning you before a classic FNAF jumpscare gets you. Interestingly enough, if you look closely during the kitchen sequence, you can see a strange doll with glowing red eyes staring at you.

I am curious though if these open environments might confirm this being a first-person game. Instead of being confined to a small room, you actually have to find your way out of this place as animatronics try to kill you. I will keep an eye out for future trailers but if they do go this route, this might be a must-buy for me. Also, curious about how many secrets are scattered throughout the game. Really curious about what series creator Scott Cawthon has planned with this game.

  • ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ Teaser Trailer Confirms 2021 Release

‘God of War: Ragnarok’ Teaser Trailer Confirms 2021 Release

There were some exciting reveals in the latest PlayStation Showcase. Final Fantasy XVI finally got revealed and is returning to the franchise’s roots. We got some gameplay for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. They even announced an open-world Harry Potter game with Hogwarts Legacy. We also finally got an official price and release date. It is already coming out in November, so it is amazing to think how long they dragged out the reveal. At the end of the PlayStation Showcase, they surprised us with one last announcement. The long-awaited sequel to God of War is coming.

Anyone else got chills from that? We only hear Kratos talking to his son Atreus. He wants him to prepare for something before the official subtitle Ragnarok is revealed. It was to be expected that the follow-up would use this title. Kratos fulfilled the prophecy that would lead to the end of the world we know. Somehow the former Greek God of War has a tendency to do so. The logo also seems to confirm the never-ending winter that will befall Earth. thor was briefly teased throughout Kratos’ travels until he confronted them in a secret ending. Now, we will finally get a chance to confront the iconic Norse God and I cannot wait to continue the storyline. This might already be my most-anticipated game of 2021 and I haven’t even seen any gameplay.

  • ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Trailer Explores Beyond the School’s Grounds

‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Trailer Explores Beyond the School’s Grounds

There has been a rumor floating around for quite some time that a Harry Potter game was being developed. Warner Bros. game division was almost sold by AT&T, so some wondered if the game was even going to be released. Surprisingly, it seems that the franchise’s popularity may have been the saving grace for the studio. Now, we finally got our first look at what a third-person game in the world of Harry Potter could look like during the PlayStation showcase.

The trailer showcases a variety of creatures that are well-known to Potter fans. The game will open up the school’s gates. It seems you can create your own character that will start his life as a wizard at Hogwarts in the early 1800s. We sadly don’t really get a look at how you play the game. It seems to be based on third-person action games, so might take some cues from games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I am curious if you can upgrade your character by attending classes. It could let the game do something unique. Your own choices in what classes you attend you define your character’s development. There is a lot of potential with this game and hope we get some gameplay soon.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Gameplay Showcases Next-Gen Action

‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Gameplay Showcases Next-Gen Action

Remember the day Spider-Man was revealed for the PlayStation? We got an entire showcase of around eight-minutes of gameplay. The game was a massive hit at the time. It was just a question of time before we finally get our next entry. Surprisingly, we are getting a spin-off for the PlayStation 5 release. A short teaser gave us a glimpse of what we can expect but that was all. Now, the latest PlayStation showcase gave us an entire seven-minute gameplay trailer showing just how the next-generation console will make the game stand out even more.

Miles Morales takes place a year after the events of the original. Miles’ mother started a political career through which she ends up in the crossfires of a gang war. High-tech goons from the energy-corporation Roxxon and the inventor known as the Tinkerer start to terrorize the city. This power struggle will force the young Spider-Man’s hand in protecting his new hometown of Harlem.

Miles looks to play similarly to Peter but that is just on the surface. He has his own abilities like a venom sting that will give him a different edge in combat. It’s also amazing to see how fluid the game switches between cutscenes and actual gameplay footage. This will be quite the Holiday release for the console.

  • ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Announcement Trailer Teases an Action-Packed Medieval Adventure

‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Announcement Trailer Teases an Action-Packed Medieval Adventure

Final Fantasy has seen quite the resurgence as of late. After a miserable start, Final Fantasy XIV Online was able to grow quite the community. Final Fantasy VII Remake brought us back to Midgar, as we explored Cloud’s story in a completely unique way. Many wondered if the focus would be to continue the remake’s franchise, as the first entry only focused on the opening of the original game. Still, we were hoping for some kind of announcement to tease what the sixteenth entry could look like. As they were building up towards the next generation of consoles, PlayStation started a PS Showcase with the reveal of Final Fantasy XVI in a stunning trailer.

Looks like Square-Enix is taking the franchise back to its fantasy-inspired roots. The trailer teases an ongoing war. We already get a variety of summons teased that seem to have some connection to a young Nobel boy Joshua. It seems we played a young man that was meant to protect the kid but is forced upon a rather different path. We also see a more action-packed gameplay style. It is uncertain if this will take inspiration from Final Fantasy VII Remake that combined the RPG elements with slasher-style combat. As a huge fan of the franchise, I am excited to see it continue.

  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Reveals Release Window for Both Hawkeye DLCs

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Reveals Release Window for Both Hawkeye DLCs

Just a few days ago, we got the official announcement that Kate Bishop would be the first addition to Marvel’s Avengers. The game is only a few days away from its official release, so it is exciting to know what to expect once we’ve finished the main campaign titled Reassemble. Some might have noticed that they also were very open about the release being shortly after launch. They did not offer a specific release window but did tease that they would reveal their road map in a future War Table update. Surprisingly, taking a closer look at their press release, they included when we can expect not just Bishop’s DLC but also that of Barton. The press release states that Kate’s Operation titled “Taking AIM” will kickstart late October followed by Clint’s to finish the double-feature in November.

Here an excerpt from the official press release:

The Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE also revealed a new post-launch Hero coming as part of the game’s Avengers Initiative, Kate Bishop. Kate’s Operation, “Taking AIM,” kicks off in late October featuring a new villain and new mystery. Bishop, who is mentored by Clint Barton, comes with distinct Heroic Skills and takedowns that only an Olympic-caliber gymnast and master archer like Kate can pull off.

Kate Bishop will be the first new Hero introduced to Marvel’s Avengers after its launch on September 4. Taking AIM’s story begins shortly after the conclusion of the game’s Reassemble campaign and is just the first half of the two Hawkeyes’ Story Arc. Clint Barton’s Hawkeye takes the stage in November to complete the double-feature and lay the groundwork for what’s next.

Interestingly, they’ve decided to include it in the press release but not their video. The fact that they describe these stories as a singular story arc may also hint at the nature of these characters. Taking a closer look during the video, you can see that both characters share the same symbol. As such, we could see some double-features more often in the future, or smaller story arcs from the leaked line-up. Still, we shouldn’t expect monthly character updates like this every time. Some characters will require more work than others and might also include bigger updates. These could be either new areas, new mission types, or completely new enemy factions. Interesting to note is that the press release also ends on additional post-launch content being revealed soon, so we might see a follow-up War Table early next month to confirm the release date.

  • PlayStation 5 Not Backward Compatible With PSX, PS2 or PS3

There has been much debate on how much backward compatibility will be possible for PlayStation 5. Microsoft proudly proclaimed that their next entry Xbox Series X would be able to play games as far back as the original’s 2001 Xbox library. So, it seemed like a perfect opportunity for its biggest competitor to follow suit. The thought of playing my original Final Fantasy VII or PS2’s Persona 4 on the same console sounded like a promising prospect. Sadly, it looks like that won’t be the case after all.

Someone asked a question over on Ubisoft’s Support page about upgrading from a PlayStation 4 to the next-gen console. In it, they may have accidentally confirmed that it will only support titles from the previous generation. This means any games from the original PlayStation up until PlayStation 3 will not be playable on the latest entry. We still have to keep in mind this isn’t a confirmation by Sony, so they may have some long-term plans potentially that production companies aren’t informed by yet.

This is a bit disappointing. Of course, the next-gen console is there to play the latest games. Still, it’s just a waste to not embrace the history that came before. After five generations of consoles, it’s the perfect time to pay tribute to the ones that started it all. Also, each new generation makes it difficult to keep older consoles around due to a lack of space or plug-ins on the TV. This would’ve been the perfect opportunity to remedy this issue and celebrate the past. Here’s hoping that at least the next-gen console will include the return of some classic franchises with new entries. I am still not losing hope on the return of Sly Cooper for the next generation.

  • Gamescom: ‘Ratched & Clank: Rift Apart’ Extended Demo Showcases Next-Gen

Gamescom: ‘Ratched & Clank: Rift Apart’ Extended Demo Showcases Next-Gen

Not too long ago, Sony finally revealed their next generation console PlayStation 5. It hada. line-up of games to show just how strong the next generation will end up being. Among them was a brief showcase of Ratched & Clank: Rift Apart. It highlighted how the new systems will allow for fluid animation and faster loading. We’ve been anxiously waiting for more gameplay that proves just how big the next generation will be. Luckily, Gamescom gave us an entire uninterrupted Demo that shows just what the PS5 is capable of. Insomniac got a chance to highlight how the DualSense will also allow you to control how you use the various weaponry.

It is the extended gameplay trailer we saw briefly teased during the console showcase, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

  • Post-Launch Reveal Teased for Upcoming ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ War Table

Post-Launch Reveal Teased for Upcoming ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ War Table

Here’s a nice surprise. Marvel’s Avengers Beta has officially come to an end. All that is left is for the game is the official launch on September 4th. We were teased that a new War Table might be heading our way shortly before release. Sadly, we didn’t have any news when it would release. Also, what exactly we could expect from it. My personal hopes were to see some kind of tease of what post-launch content they have planned. Looks like my pleas have been heard, as a newsletter sent out via email confirmed that we will get the next War Table on September 1st with some major reveals.

    https://twitter.com/PlayAvenger/status/1298245643652259840

The newsletter confirms some Day One reveals for the launch. Quite curious about what the progression system is that they reference here. Either way, what sticks out is the confirmation of our first look at the post-launch “season” titled Avengers Initiative. This was already teased during the Hawkeye reveal last month. We know that each character has their own story missions. I believe that they purposely call it a post-launch content season as it will be something unique from those character-specific missions. They also will unveil an additional post-launch playable hero. My best guess is that this character will be one of the clone characters like War Machine or She-Hulk that were leaked a few weeks back.
