‘Scream 6’ Brings Back Four More Cast Members

The sixth installment of the Scream franchise has secured four more cast members.

It was announced today that Melissa BarreraJasmin Savoy BrownMason Gooding and Jenna Ortega will return for the sixth Scream film. The actors will reprise their roles from 2022’s Scream, joining the recently confirmed Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers. Scream 6 will see Sam (Barrera), Mindy (Brown), Chad (Gooding) and Tara (Ortega) leaving Woodsboro in an attempt to start a new chapter in their lives. The characters, though new, have ties to some of the most iconic characters in the Screamfranchise. While Gooding and Brown play twins in the franchise and are related to Jaime Kennedy’s Randy Meeks.

  • ‘Scream’ Sequel Gets March 2023 Release, Courteney Cox Returning

‘Scream’ Sequel Gets March 2023 Release, Courteney Cox Returning

Spyglass Media’s Scream revival has been quite the success and it looks like Paramount doesn’t want to waste any time, as they have now given the film a March 31st, 2023 release. The reboot took in $140M at the global box office, which is quite impressive with the current conditions and given how long it’s been since the film’s release. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are once again attached with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick writing the screenplay for the remake sequel.

That’s not all, as it looks like the upcoming film will also see the return of Courteney Cox in the sixth entry of the franchise. It’s currently eyeing a production start in Canada at some point in June, which would put it on track to hit its 2023 release.

I got the script yesterday. And I haven’t read it yet. I just got it, and I’m so used to getting, you know, Shining Vale scripts, which are 26 pages, and I’m, ‘Whoah, I’ve got to read a script.’ I’m excited to read it. don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything. Let me tell you the killer.

    Courteney Cox

The sixth entry was quickly greenlit after the success of the remake over MLK weekend, and we’re seeing another popular slasher franchise make a grand return. While reception to Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre was mixed, the Halloween sequel series has been quite popular with it spinning out into two more sequels. With those titles having some fun with the title, here’s hoping the next Scream entry is called “Scream Again” or “Scream Some More.” So, maybe we’ll see other slasher icons return in the near future.

  • ‘Scream 6’ Is Officially Happening

    ‘Scream 6’ Is Officially Happening

Scream kicked off 2022 with a bang as it brought audiences back to the fictional town of Woodsboro. The fifth installment in the horror franchise was a smash hit at the box office, garnering praise from both fans and critics. It seems fans won’t have to wait too long for another meta-fueled slasher flick as Paramount is already in development on the sixth film in the series.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount and Spyglass Entertainment has greenlit the next Scream film. Tyler Gillet and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin will return to direct the film with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will produce the project with Kevin Williamson, Chad Villella, Gary Barber, and Peter Oillataguerre serving as executive producers on the project.

“Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators – and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built – has been the thrill of a lifetime and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the ‘Scream’ saga to life,”

    Tyler Gillet, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin

Work on the project is already set to begin this summer with plot details still under wraps. No casting announcements have been made just yet so it’s unknown just who will return from Scream.

We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family”

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Now Passes ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Jurassic World’s Worldwide Box Office

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Now Passes ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Jurassic World’s Worldwide Box Office

The weekend box office numbers are finally in and as predicted, Sony’s latest release, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has taken the top spot of the domestic box office back and continues to grow even in its sixth weekend. As of now, it has garnered another $14.1M from 3,705 theaters within the domestic market. Now it stands at $721M as the fourth-highest earner in that market. It’s total gross as of now stands at $721M domestically and $970M internationally. So, in total it has now passed The Lion King‘s $1.66B and Jurassic World‘s $1.67B to become the sixth highest-grossing film worldwide.

Scream managed to land on $12.5M, which brought it to a strong $51.3M domestically. It’s quite the success for a legacy franchise that hasn’t had a new entry in some time, as it now stands at $84.9M worldwide. The only other competition was Sing 2 which was far behind at $5.7M, which has now made around $241.1M worldwide. The newcomer Redeeming Love – which you can read our review of here – made around $3.7M in 1,903 theaters but still managed to take the fourth spot. D.J. Caruso‘s film had a stronger following in the South, which is a given with its California Gold Rush backdrop and Christian romance plot.

There was one more new release over the weekend with The King’s Daughter, which didn’t manage to get into the $1M club and fell behind with $700K at the eighth-spot while the top five was rounded out by 20th Century and Disney’s action prequel The King’s Man. The film managed to crack the $100M mark worldwide over the weekend but is still far from what one would expect from the franchise.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes ‘Scream’ to Take Top Spot at the Domestic Box Office Again

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes ‘Scream’ to Take Top Spot at the Domestic Box Office Again

Last weekend, it seemed like Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s hold on the international box office had come to an end, as the newly released Scream took over the top spot from the film in the domestic market. It didn’t take long for the box office juggernaut to once again return to the top, as it’s on its way to end the weekend with $13.5M while the horror film dropped by 61% to make $11.7M over its second weekend. The drop isn’t bad, as it’s on par with previous entries and is still one of the better second weekends for the franchise.

As of now, No Way Home stands as the 4th highest domestic release with $720.4M by the end of the weekend. It’ll require another $40.1M to pass Avatar at the box office, which is a bit uncertain as of now, but the film has proven to have quite a bit of staying power, especially with it taking back the top spot again. Yet, it was still a frontloaded release, which isn’t too uncommon for Marvel films.

The thing working against it is also that the box office is currently a bit dead until the next major releases in February with two very different entries, Roland Emmerich‘s next world-ending film Moonfall and the return of a childhood classic prankster group in Jackass Forever. So, we’ll see if it gives the box office a jolt, but it seems more likely that we won#t see another strong performance until The Batman releases in March, whose 3-hour runtime raises some interesting predictions given the character’s box office draw and how longer films still managed to become box office darlings.

  • ‘Scream’ to Dethrone ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Over the Holiday Weekend

‘Scream’ to Dethrone ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Over the Holiday Weekend

It has finally happened. It seemed almost impossible considering for how long Spider-Man: No Way Home has been the dominant force in the box office since its release in December. Yet after a strong start with Thursday previews, Scream has managed to garner $13.35M on Friday and is currently set to dethrone the Marvel film. As Variety shared, the film may end the weekend at around $36M over the four-day weekend.

The latest horror flick is doing great in the usually dead zone that is January. The film is also making back its entire production budget back in the opening weekend, as it only cost $25M. The numbers are also great considering the growing concern over Omicron, as predictions had it only barely inching out No Way Home with 29M ahead of its release. The Marvel film is still performing great as it’s eyeing a $26.75M holiday weekend.

Horror films have generally been consistent performers throughout the pandemic. Halloween Kills managed to grab $49.4M and A Quiet Place Part II was a motivating release in the earlier parts of the pandemic as a lot of uncertainty still remained. The big test will be The Batman‘s release in March to see if any other release might be able to break the box office again.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ On its Way to Pass ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s Spot in the Domestic Box Office

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ On its Way to Pass ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s Spot in the Domestic Box Office

While Spider-Man: No Way Home sadly is more an exception than a rule, its hold on the box office is truly impressive. Not only did it manage to take in over $200M in its opening weekend, as everyone else struggled to even get near the $100M mark, but it also is the first pandemic release to pass the $1 billion mark. Now, the film continues to grow, as it’s already on its way to becoming the fifth-highest domestic opening of all time, as it passes by Avengers: Infinity War‘s $678.8M.

These numbers are impressive, as it’s very likely going to hit $700M by Monday. while it does seem unlikely that it could manage $800M given the rise in Omicron concerns as of late, the film’s box office development has been quite impressive. It also stood unopposed since its release in December, but there’s a chance that Scream will just barely inch out the Marvel threequel over the weekend, as it takes in a predicted $29.4M, who’s also showing some impressive numbers even as it faces the pandemic.

  • ‘Scream’ Rakes in $3.5 million at Thursday Previews

‘Scream’ Rakes in $3.5 million at Thursday Previews

Paramount and Spyglass Media’s Scream, the fifth installment of the horror franchise, is off to an impressive start. The horror flick earned $3.5 million at Thursday previews from 3,000 theaters. While that number is below Halloween Kills and A Quiet Place Part 2, which both earned $4.8 million each, it is still impressive for a horror film during a pandemic.

It remains to be seen how well the reboot/sequel does over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, however, the hope is that it’ll cross at least $20 million. Under normal circumstances, that would be a low number for such a big movie. However, in a pandemic, that is a safe goal to reach. Working on Scream’s favor, of course, is the fact that it has no major competition until February 4th — when both Moonfall and Jackass Forever debut. Its only real competition as it stands is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is still dominating the box office and inching closer to $700 million stateside.

With strong reviews, Scream should do well over the four-day weekend, potentially even overtaking Mama (2013) as the highest opening over MLK weekend for a horror film. That film pulled in $32.1 million at the time. Fans can return to Westboro now that Scream is finally playing in theaters.

  • ‘Scream’ to Eyeing a Franchise Record Opening With $40M Weekend

‘Scream’ to Eyeing a Franchise Record Opening With $40M Weekend

It’s an understatement to say that Spider-Man: No Way Home has been dominating the box office worldwide. The film passed a billion in record time even as the pandemic is still an issue that might once again close down cinemas in select countries. Sing 2 was a surprisingly strong contender as a younger audience was once again able to visit cinemas, but it looks like a new contender is facing the Omicron head-on. January’s next major release will be the horror veteran Scream that continues the classic franchise and may highlight horror’s strong grip even during the pandemic.

The film is currently predicted to make $35M over four days with a more optimistic outlook even seeing git manage $40M. Canada will have some closures, but it’s unsure how much it’ll potentially affect its release. As such, the film could manage to pass the $100M mark. As of now, the film would break the franchise’s record, which is an exciting prospect. Sony’s delay of Morbius may become an advantage as the film won’t face any major new competition outside of the dominating existence that is No Way Home. It’ll be interesting to see what implications it might have going into 2022.
