‘Superman and Lois’ Showrunner Teases Season 2’s Villain

Superman and Lois‘ first season reinvented the way we see stories around the Man of Steel. This time around, Clark Kent is faced with the biggest challenge ever, raising two sons alongside his love Lois Lane. He did face off against some new foes like Adam Rayner‘s Tal-Rho. Of course, it opened up the question of what other villains he might face off against in the upcoming second season. Luckily, showrunner Todd Helbing offered a small tease when he was asked if we’ve heard of the next villain he’ll face.

You have, yes. The only tease I will say is, in the same way that we took Morgan Edge and twisted the mythology a little bit—made him Clark’s brother and ultimately the Eradicator—we’re trying to go into the comic books to find lesser-known villains and reinvent them. We can introduce them and people can then go read the versions in the comics.

    Todd Helbing

In the same interview, he also highlights that we haven’t seen the last of Tal-Rho either. So, it’ll be interesting to see how many villains he might end up facing in the upcoming second season. It’s great that they want to explore smaller villains that normally wouldn’t get a chance on the silver screen or generally in live-action. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle it. Helbing also revealed that they recently pitched the second season to the studio. So, they are still in the early stages of getting the ball rolling on the project. So, we might not see any new updates for some time until they start entering production.

  • ‘Superman and Lois’ Season 2 Adds ‘Teen Wolf’s Ian Bohen

‘Superman and Lois’ Season 2 Adds ‘Teen Wolf’s Ian Bohen

It looks like the second season of CW’s Superman and Lois is already readying up its production, as Deadline announced Teen Wolf’s Ian Bohen is joining the upcoming season. He’ll play Lt. Mitch Anderson, who takes over the DOD and has quite the hatred for the Man of Steel taking things into his own hands. They also reveal he’ll have a multi-episode arc which may build him up as a threat or a new ally once he confronts the resident superhero.

Tyler Hoechlin took over the role of Clark Kent all the way back in 2016. He joined Supergirl‘s second season as Superman and continued to play the character to this day. Yet, he faces a challenge worthy of the Man of Steel, he has to handle a family. Together with Elizabeth Tulloch‘s Lois Lane, they race a young Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin) to face a new tomorrow.

It’s funny that the former Teen Wolf star is joined by another alum. Hoechlin famously played the character of Derek Hale in the series before he joined the Arrowverse. It was the film Road to Perdition that put him on the map similar to how Bohen‘s work on the AMC hit show, Mad Men as Roy Hazelitt. Who knows what other Teen Wolf stars might find their way into the series as it continues to grow.

  • ‘Superman and Lois’: How Clark Kent Puts The Man In Man of Steel

‘Superman and Lois’: How Clark Kent Puts The Man In Man of Steel

In many iterations of Superman, there have been stories that have shaped how he deals with complicated choices. Specifically, when it comes to remaining in control. In stories involving Red Kryptonite, we’ve seen the impact of those scenarios. Even Injusticewhere the Joker influences him to kill Lois Lane is as far as the scope goes. In Superman & Lois‘ latest episode Clark has to deal with his own lack of control that is capable of destroying the world.

Superman & Lois Easter Eggs are a Love Letter to Every Era of DC History - Den of Geek

Regular human beings who have great wealth and power aren’t inclined to have control. They’re known to indulge and revel in the fruits of their labor. Superman has all the power someone can only dream of owning. Yet, he’s human enough to control it for the greater good, which isn’t easy. While he was under the influence of his brother Tal-Rho, there was a moment for Clark where it felt good to let go.

I’m not saying I want this to be true. I wish it wasn’t, but it felt good. It felt really, really good. That feeling worries me.

As Clark pleads with Lois that the kryptonite weapons should not be buried, this is the humanity that exists within the Kryptonian. Part of heroism is sacrifice, but an even bigger part is self-awareness. It’s easy to think that someone like Superman is infallible, and Lois Lane’s belief in her husband is admirable. In a way, it’s easy to get caught up in the praise and adulation that’s given to the Man of Tomorrow.

Yet, the greater power that Clark exhibits here, is one of understanding his own journey. Jonathan Kent taught Clark about controlling his gifts, knowing that one mistake could come at an unimaginable cost. Clark has lived with this for years upon years, yet with all of those lessons, there is no hubris.Eventually, Superman trusted John Henry Irons to hold onto the Kryptonite weapons after learning of his fate. In a parallel world, Superman was corrupted. He and other Kryptonians took over the world, including the horrifying act that led to the Man of Tomorrow killing Lois.

John showed up in this current world, wanting to make sure that the same thing wouldn’t happen again. Eventually, he was convinced that this Superman was different. It’s a credit to Clark for ignoring the praise and belief around him and doing the right thing. There is always a chance that someone or something could take control. In his vulnerability, Clark decided that a Superman could not. He put his trust into humanity, and it has made him the hero that he’s always been.

  • ‘Superman and Lois’: Checking In With The Kent Boys

‘Superman and Lois’: Checking In With The Kent Boys

On Superman & Lois, a lot of time is spent on Clark Kent juggling being a hero and learning to become a better father. While all of this is happening, Lois Lane is trying to expose Morgan Edge. While all of that is fascinating in its own right, the Kent children tell quite the story of their own. Jonathan and Jordan Kent couldn’t be more different from each other, which adds quite a bit of tension throughout its run.

Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) is levelheaded, comfortable in his skin, and incredibly confident. In the first three episodes, he stands out as the moral center of the show. Sure, we see him teasing his brother, but what teenager wouldn’t? What we learn about him while watching this show is that Jonathan is also incredibly empathetic and reasonable. He sees things in his brother that their father is missing.

    Superman & Lois review: It's a good premiere — but is it a show? | EW.com

When Jordan (Alex Garfin) joins the football team without Clark knowing, Jonathan tells his brother that their father will be upset, as he tries not to beat him over the head with it. Later, when Clark finds out and scolds Jordan, Jonathan is the one that comes to his defense. He ensures to their father that Jordan can control his abilities. Jonathan should have every reason not to be as understanding as he is. He got upended to a small town and suddenly finds out his father is Superman. We haven’t even tackled the fact that his brother has powers while he doesn’t.

Now the one thing Jonathan excels at is football, but now his brother is upstaging him. With all of that happening, he still tries his best to be a good brother. One wonders if that will continue or how that will evolve, as Jordan is the one that needs the most care. He’s emotionally unstable at times, which is a dangerous combination when one possesses abilities as he does. This fact, of course, concerns his parents.

Superman & Lois' Twin Sons Jon & Jordan, Explained

When Clark takes Jordan to the Fortress of Solitude, Jor-El’s hologram tells Clark that Jordan will never be like him. This revelation leaves his son angry and bitter, which ends up blaming it all on his father. We will look at this as an angst-ridden teenager in any other show, but this is a young man with insane expectations. Imagine being the son of Superman and hearing your grandfather say how you’ll never live up to your father. That’s pretty rough.

On top of all of that, Jordan also has feelings for Lana’s daughter, Sarah Cushing. (Inde Navarette) In the pilot, he kisses her. It leads to a fight with her then-boyfriend, which becomes the catalyst to activate his heat vision. Jordan then spends the next episode not being allowed to go to school. It’s hard to imagine anyone dealing with this well at all. In episode three, both the boys find out that Clark has been eavesdropping on their conversations for a long time. This invasion of privacy is a privilege Superman has through his abilities, but it creates tension with his sons.

Superman & Lois' Super Son's Powers May Not Be What You Expect

Eventually, there’s growth from Jordan once he joins the football team. He’s able to control his new-found strength to some degree. The best part is, he even gets to make some friends. Maybe there’ll be a little bit less angst in the upcoming episodes. Even Clark learns something from prior experience with his Dad that gives him the motivation to let Jordan play. This television show is primarily about Superman, but they confirm his two sons are not just cannon fodder. They’re teaching Clark valuable lessons and growing as young men themselves. Their character development is just as important as the man of steel.

  • CW Renews ‘Superman and Lois’ for a Season 2

CW Renews ‘Superman and Lois’ for a Season 2

In the first season of Supergirl, it seemed unlikely that we would ever see the face of Superman on the CW. They only gave us a brief silhouette of the Kryptonian. Suddenly, after Supergirl‘s second season was announced, Tyler Hoechlin had been cast in the role of Kal-El and would make his Arrowverse debut. From then on, he’d only make brief appearances here and there. His character would only have larger roles in the various crossovers. That all changed when it got announced that Hoechlin was receiving a series titled Superman and Lois.

The journey isn’t stopping there, as the series has been renewed for a second season following its monumental premiere last week. The series premiere delivered the largest day-one streaming audience for a new series on the CW. It also racked up 1.7 million viewers during its initial broadcast. Of course, the news got instantly shared on the official Twitter account:

The CW’s Chairman and CEO, Mark Pedowitz, stated the incredible debut for Superman and Lois

The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment

Superman and Lois currently air on the CW Network. Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch are reprising their roles as Superman and Lois Lane in a post-crisis world. Now in the united Earth-Prime after a multiversal reset, they have to juggle being parents of two children and face a world of uncertainty.

  • Review: ‘Superman & Lois’ Episode 1

Review: ‘Superman & Lois’ Episode 1

The CW has been no stranger to the superhero family story. From Arrow’s team and family drama to Black Lightning’s father/daughters with powers dynamic, the form and the format have been well established. Enter Superman & Lois which premiered this past Tuesday and gave a look at Clark Kent in a different light.

The show wastes no time with the often told Superman origin story and uses the first ten minutes as a refresher. One immediate observation is that this show appears to have a higher budget than its sister shows. It feels cinematic, and time isn’t wasted in showing Supes in action with physical combat and feats of strength. This takes place years after the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, as Lois and Clark’s sons are teenagers. Jonathan (Jordan Elsass)is the cocky athlete and Jordan (Alex Garfin) is the angst ridden adolescent.

Tyler Hoechlin feels more comfortable and confident in the role of Superman than previous Arrowverse iterations. There’s a regal presence, an empathetic grace to his character that’s apparent early. Bitsie Tulloch’s Lois maintains the strong personality and inquisitive nature that is necessary for the character to succeed.

The show tackles the question of how can Superman be the hero the world needs and be a good father. Contextually you can make the argument that it’s different than other heroes as Superman is the world’s champion, not just a city or town. There are legitimate complications, particularly when Clark had never told his sons about his origins or their heritage. The classic sins of the father effect, except you can understand why Clark didn’t want to burden his sons with his own fears. As Lois and Clark disagree, he states, “It’s too dangerous for them to know.” Lois replies, “It’s more dangerous if they don’t.” All of this is magnified when Martha Kent dies due to a stroke which forces Clark to return to Smallville.

Later an incident takes place which forces Clark to reveal his origins to his sons which understandably upsets them. This is where the show gets interesting as there’s legitimate friction in trying to deal with the lies that Clark has told. Jordan Kent (who has powers) is someone to watch as moody and temperamental as he is, and Jonathan (who doesn’t at this point) is more self-assured. Their story arc is fascinating and potentially more compelling than anything else.

The other character who makes an impact immediately is Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh) who wants Superman available at all times and Lois realizes that Clark needs to be around more often. Just imagine Superman as a stay-at-home dad, funny right? As Lane states in the pilot, “You may have fallen in love with Clark Kent, but you married Superman. And Superman doesn’t get to have a normal life, no matter how much you want one for him.”

Going forward, the show’s main challenge as always is to sell the audience on not only the emotional aspect but the physical. We want to see Superman fight monsters, aliens, and all types of obstacles as action provides the discourse. We get that at the end of the pilot as Superman fights and loses to a Captain Luthor in a super suit. Is he from the future perhaps? It was a good cliffhanger to end the pilot on.

The man of tomorrow has a lot more on his plate than kryptonite and saving the world. As it turns out, both Clark and Lois have quite the challenge on their hands. Superman & Lois airs at 8pm every Tuesday on the CW.

  • First ‘Superman and Lois’ Trailer Released

First ‘Superman and Lois’ Trailer Released

CW has been making some curious changes lately. The Arrowverse seemed to be facing a shift, as many long-term shows were getting canceled. They even decided not to move forward with the Arrow spin-off Green Arrow and the CanariesBlack Lightning and Supergirl are also on their way out, which may signal a new direction. DC has been focusing a lot on adding to HBO Max’s line-up, which may be a reason for this reshuffling. It isn’t the end of an era, as CW has a brand new DC show on the horizon. The CW has greenlit a brand new series titled Superman & Lois. It will focus on the Man of Steel trying to juggle his responsibilities as a hero and taking care of his children. After a long wait, we finally got a first look trailer at the upcoming series, which you can check out here:

The trailer looks very promising. Clark trying to balance his family and superhero life makes for a great premise. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch are perfect choices for the CW’s version of the iconic power couple. The series is set within the Arrowverse continuity, so we might see Supergirl or other heroes could make an appearance throughout the season. We already got the tease that David Ramsey’s John Diggle was going to return, and he also directed an episode for the show. The first trailer certainly teases a great new addition to the Arrowverse line-up. We will see how crazy things get as Clark tries to regain some kind of normalcy.

  • ‘Superman and Lois’: First Official Look at Tyler Hoechlins New Suit

‘Superman and Lois’: First Official Look at Tyler Hoechlins New Suit

Since his first appearance on Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent has sported the same suit with one exception. He was allowed to wear a black variant in the Elseworlds crossover, but that was technically Doctor Destiny pretending to be Clark via the Book of Destiny. Never the less, he was bound for an upgrade sooner or later. Now, the first season of Superman and Lois is set to hit the CW early next year as the newest addition to the Arrowverse. Hoechlin also is finally getting the suit upgrade.

The CW officially revealed Clarks newest look for the upcoming spin-off series. We finally got a good look at what was seen in leaked set photos that made their rounds a while back. This new look is almost identical to the outfit that Clark wears in the current Rebirth comic runs that feature the character. He finally dumped those dreaded cape clips that had plagued the suit since his debut in Supergirl. Also, they finally added a much better belt to what seems to be a much stiffer bodysuit. I think it might just be how the arms are positioned, but it looks tough to move in that, especially forearms.

Superman and Lois is currently in production and is set to debut early next year on the CW network. It will have a 13 episode run, unlike other CW’s network show. The show will feature the iconic comic couple juggling their everyday lives while raising their children. It is part of the fallout that resulted from the Crisis event that shook the Arrowverse to its core, rebooting the multiverse into something much bigger and brighter. Superman and Lois are one of a few new projects at the CW with shows like Wonder-Girl and Naomi.
