  • Vincent D’Onofrio On ‘Hawkeye’s Kingpin: “It’s The Same Character” as in ‘Daredevil’

Vincent D’Onofrio On ‘Hawkeye’s Kingpin: “It’s The Same Character” as in ‘Daredevil’

We’ve been theorizing quite a bit since the announcement that Vincent D’Onforio‘s return in Hawkeye as Kingpin might connect to the original Daredevil in some form or another. There are hints at elements being taken over, but also his new durability as a sign this is a more comic-accurate depiction of the character. Luckily D’Onofrio offered some insight into it in an interview with CinemaBlend

It’s the same character. Yeah, I mean, the way that we saw it on Hawkeye, or [what] I ended up believing, is that there are [as] many dots connected as we can possibly connect, and some are just impossible to connect. But I think… it’s the same as a lot of the MCU stuff that’s done, that Kevin [Feige] does, and all the incredible filmmakers, you know, they try to connect to the original stuff as much as they can. … But then there’s dots that can’t be connected. And I think we tried to do the same thing with connecting Daredevil to… or Hawkeye to Daredevil and Daredevil to Hawkeye. You know, it’s like that.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

He does go on to highlight that this version is quite a bit stronger, especially as we saw him rip an entire car door with his bare hands hinting at the more comic inspirations, but at its core, the character remains the same.

I mean, obviously, my character in Hawkeye is physically stronger and can take a lot more physical abuse. But my approach to him is exactly the same approach that I did on Daredevil. He is an emotional human being, he is a child and a monster simultaneously. The same things that are going on inside me when I’m playing the character, the events that I use, whether the joyful ones or sad ones or frustrating ones or angry ones, the events that I use from my life are the same ones that I used in Daredevil that I used to portray Fisk. So it’s connected, for sure. In my mind, for sure.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

He does go on to share his headcanon, as “he has lost the power he had in Daredevil and he wants it back.” It might explain why he isn’t working from a penthouse and that is why he wants to take back the city. It may also be the reason he’s become a bit more “hands-on” in his approach instead of relying purely on his goons. It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store.

  • ‘Iron Fist’ Star Jessica Henwick Turned Down ‘Shang-Chi’ To Keep Hope Alive for the Return of Colleen Wing

‘Iron Fist’ Star Jessica Henwick Turned Down ‘Shang-Chi’ To Keep Hope Alive for the Return of Colleen Wing

Netflix’s Iron Fist seemed to finally be finding its identity when it was canceled following its second season. A big part of that identity was giving then budding star Jessica Henwick more to do. By season’s end, Henwick’s character, Colleen Wing, wielded the power of the Iron Fist of K’un Lun and, presumably, would have had a major arc in a third season.

Henwick is now starring in the recently released Matrix Resurrections and revealed that, in order to land that role, she passed on one in Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. After that report, fans speculated, wildly as always, that Henwick was set to reprise the role of Wing in Shang-Chi. Thankfully, in an interview with a trade,Henwick clarified that not only was she NOT going to be playing Wing in Shang-Chi, but also that she passed on the role in order to keep hope alive that she might reprise the role sometime down the road.

If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn’t the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation. I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don’t know how likely that is. Charlie [Cox] knew about that opportunity years ago. He already knew it was happening. I think I would have heard by now if there were any plans with Colleen.

As Henwick noted, plans for Daredevil star Charlie Cox to return were in place for some time ahead of his work on Spider-Man: No Way Home and the fact that she hasn’t heard anything about a potential future for Wing could easily be construed as the end for the character; however, as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye have proven, there can be life after Netflix death for these characters.

  • Marvel Studios Calls ‘Hawkeye’s Upcoming Episode a “Season” Not Series Finale

Marvel Studios Calls ‘Hawkeye’s Upcoming Episode a “Season” Not Series Finale

A new and potentially final poster has dropped ahead of the release of Hawkeye‘s finale. It shows off most of the main players outside of the returning Kingpin, who is still purposely held in the shadows even though we got a glimpse at him in a photograph. Yet, there’s a rather curious detail in the Instagram post, as it includes the rather curious detail that this is, in fact, a “season finale” and not a series finale.

The season finale of Marvel Studios’ @HawkeyeOfficial starts streaming tomorrow on @DisneyPlus

There are no set rules in what series gets a continuation over at Disney+. Not every show requires a follow-up season, as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were never given a greenlight. The first time we got any confirmation was during the post-credit sequence of Loki. What If…? was renewed ahead of its release and only hinted at during interviews. Some time ago, we even got a hint for the upcoming She-Hulk series, whose first season still has no release date.

While calling it a “season finale” doesn’t directly confirm that we’ll get a second season of Hawkeye, but there are many plot threads that have the potential to become the center of a second season, especially if we continue exploring Kate Bishop’s journey. Our very own Hunter Radesi has explored the potential of a second season, which you can check out here.

  • James Gunn Confirms Weekly Release for ‘PEACEMAKER’

James Gunn Confirms Weekly Release for ‘PEACEMAKER’

The DCEU may be dead-silent following the release of last summer’s The Suicide Squad but 2022 is set to open with a loud bang as Peacemaker debuts on January 13th. In the face of that anticipated release, there has been some question regarding the series’ release format, whether it would be a weekly affair or a Netflix-style binge release. Series creator and director James Gunn confirmed on Twitter that the show would follow a weekly release after the season premiere on HBO Max.

    https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1473335583430758403?t=OYpqEmnYBFCCuVMaRxadBg&s=19

Just like how the Marvel Studios Disney+ shows are dominating on social media on a weekly basis, it isn’t surprising to see HBO Max opt the same for their first major DCEU series. Fans will have a lot to chew on with the hefty 3-episode premiere on January 13th, followed by more 5 weeks of action-packed hilarity starring John Cena. MCU fans will have to wait until they get some Marvel content so this will have to do.

  • Brian Michael Bendis Developing ‘Legion of Super-Heroes’ Show for HBO Max

Brian Michael Bendis Developing ‘Legion of Super-Heroes’ Show for HBO Max

HBO Max has ordered comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis to develop a Legion of Super-Heroes series.

The news was revealed by Bendis himself.

Per Bendis, the series is still in the very early stages of development. However, it is being developed as an adult animated series. He confirms he’s been working on it for a while now, but it has officially entered the next phase – although, he doesn’t necessarily specify exactly which phase.

Bendis explained that he’s a die-hard Legion fan and asked to reveal the news to his followers, as he knows Legion fans don’t get news all that frequently. However, as he advises, things are early on meaning the project could be a ways out yet. He did, however, note that the adaptation will be based on the Legion of Super-Heroes title by Ryan Sook and Bendis.

“And just like that series, on sale now, it will harken back to so many classics while at the same time doing what Legion does: pushing all the ideas of superheroes forward in every direction,” he writes. “I think Legion of superheroes is among the greatest franchises in the history of comics and I’m as honored to be curating them as I was Spider-Man.”

Bendis warns fans because of how long animation takes, it’s doubtful news will surface about the title for a while. “Animation takes a loooong time so you may not hear anything about this for a while as I’m just getting to work on it over the break.”

  • Keanu Reeves Offers Update on Talks with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige

Keanu Reeves Offers Update on Talks with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige

John Wick and The Matrix‘s Keanu Reeves has been actively talking about his hope of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe one day. We heard that there were talks between him and Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige but it was uncertain what has come of them. Luckily, Phase Zero’s Brandon Davis had the chance to sit down with the actor during his press tour for The Matrix Resurrections, where he revealed that they’ve indeed had talks but that they “don’t have it yet” and they “got to find something.” He is still actively working towards a potential role and

If they still haven’t found the right role as of yet, it might still be quite some time before we see Reeves join the franchise at some point. There was a point when Sony wanted him to tackle the role for the upcoming Kraven the Hunter spinoff series, but it seems unlikely he’ll join a Marvel project that doesn’t involve Feige, who spearheads the MCU. He has been a popular pick to take on the role of Ghost Rider, but it’s uncertain how committed he’d want to be while also juggling his other franchises. Here’s hoping they find the right character sooner rather than later.

  • ‘Cobra Kai’ Wraps Season 5’s Production Ahead of Season 4’s Release

‘Cobra Kai’ Wraps Season 5’s Production Ahead of Season 4’s Release

Well, this is quite an interesting development. Cobra Kai has become quite a popular series, especially after it moved from YouTube Red to Netflix. It has been such a hit that Netflix has already greenlit a fifth season and it seems they already wrapped up production before the fourth has even premiered on the streaming service. It is eyeing a release on December 31st, as the perfect way to kick off the year. It’s uncertain what it might mean for when the fifth season will release, but it seems likely the wait is going to be a bit shorter. The announcement came through Jon Hurwitz‘s Twitter account:

The series takes place 34 years after the events of the original Karate Kid, as the old generation including Ralph Macchio‘s Daniel, and William Zabka‘s Johnny teaches a new generation. The original gain quite a bit of fame for taking a very different approach and focusing on the original’s antagonist. Of course, things aren’t that simple, as the revival of Cobra Kai leads to a renewed rivalry but also brings back some long-forgotten foes. It’ll be exciting to see how this season’s events might lead into the fifth.

Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Cast Share a New Video Ahead of Production Start

We’ve been covering the One Piece series in development from Netflix for some time now. After they finally confirmed the main cast, we haven’t heard much about the project’s potential production start. The cast was slowly arriving in South Africa, but we were still waiting for any update, especially with the holidays are just around the corner. Manga creator Eiichiro Oda has been heavily involved in the project and included it in his regular announcements.

While promoting the upcoming One Piece Film Red and teasing next year’s 25th anniversary during Jump Festa, we even got a nice surprise for the Western production. Emily Rudd, Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar appeared in a new video to tease that production is slowly kicking off.

During the event, Oda also offered an update on what’s to come alongside the next One Piece film. @WSJ_manga was kind enough to share the translation where he highlights the Western production and his excitement for the cast.

It’s curious that the video hasn’t been shared on the official Netflix Twitter channel, but they might have wanted this to be a Jump Festa exclusive announcement. • Hailee Steinfeld Talks Working With Vincent D’Onofrio in ‘Hawkeye’ Finale

Hailee Steinfeld Talks Working With Vincent D’Onofrio in ‘Hawkeye’ Finale

The upcoming finale of Hawkeye has everyone’s eyes on it. Not only will it tie up one of Marvel Studios’ most grounded storylines, but also finally reintroduce Wilson Fisk a.k.a. the Kingpin into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Theoretically, he was already confirmed in the last episode, but Vincent D’Onofrio gets to actually showcase his character in the series. We don’t know how true he’ll stay to his performance in Daredevil, but it’s such an exciting prospect and we only have to wait a few more days.

Luckily, to tie us over, Hailee Steinfeld has offered a tease that her character, Kate Bishop, will come into confrontation with the actor. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she talked about what it’s like to act opposite of D’Onofrio and teases the presence he’ll once again bring to the role, which is quite promising.

It’s a very different experience standing underneath Vincent and hearing him. To be in his presence is really something… I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time. It’s always amazing to be a part of something with people that you really admire. I’m excited to see people watch it unfold.

    Hailee Steinfeld

We are certainly excited, as many long-time Daredevil fans have been waiting for the character’s grand return. So, not only knowing Kate will confront the character, especially as Steinfeld highlights that “this is somebody that she doesn’t know much about but she’s been warned. She knows everything she needs to know when she hears Clint say ‘this is the guy I’ve been worried about the whole time.’ That right there is enough for her to need to come to her senses and figure out how to handle the situation” So, it’ll be interesting to see just how this turns out.
