REPORT: Star Wars’ Ahsoka Will Enter Production This Winter

Production on Star WarsAhsoka looks to be entering starting soon.

During a recent appearance on the Fatman Beyond podcast, writer and producer Marc Bernardin let it slip that production on Ahsoka is coming up. While discussing a short film he’ll be directing in December, Bernardin revealed he approached Rosario Dawson to appear in the project. Unfortunately, though, the actress made it clear she’s busy with another project at the time. “She was the first choice, and I wanted her very, very badly,” he explained. “She read the script and loved it, but she was like ‘Listen, I’m going to be in Manhattan Beach making a f—ing Star Wars show, and, uh, I can’t be in your short.’ Which I was like ‘Okay! That checks out!’”

While he didn’t specifically namedrop Ahsoka, the Disney+ is well into the casting process. It was recently revealed that Hayden Christensen is set to reprise his role as Darth Vader in the series. He went on to state the series was in production, however, with The Mandalorian production underway, Dawson may be making yet another appearance on that series.

The Ahsoka series is being written by Dave Filoni, while Jon Favreau is acting as a producer on the series. While little is known regarding the series, it’s speculated that Ahsoka supposedly takes place after Ahsoka meets with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian.

Ahsoka was initially expected to enter production in 2022. As of now, a release date has not yet been unveiled by Disney+.

  • Miss Minutes Actor Tara Strong on Loki, Season 2 and More

Miss Minutes Actor Tara Strong on Loki, Season 2 and More

Marvel Studios’ Loki introduced plenty of new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most popular, however, was easily the addition of Tara Strong‘s Miss Minutes. As a character created specifically for the television series, fans were uncertain what to expect from the cartoon clock. However, by the season’s end, she quickly became a fan favorite.

During a recent appearance at Fan Expo Canada, Strong briefly talked about her role as Miss Minutes and how she didn’t know what she was auditioning for in the beginning. It wasn’t until she was on a Zoom call with director Kate Herron and the Marvel Cinematic Universe team that she had an idea as to what she was auditioning for. “I actually didn’t know what I was auditioning for when I first read for Loki,” she said. “So I recorded one a little more like Siri, and then one a little bit less like that, and the one with the accent. And I didn’t even know exactly what it was until I was on the Zoom with Kate Herron and the rest of the MCU team.”

Despite her excitement over the role, Strong admitted she didn’t think Miss Minutes would become as big of a deal as she has among fans. “I didn’t know was gonna be that big, and I honestly think it’s my favorite Marvel TV series ever,” she stated. “Like, here’s this animated character, we don’t know her backstory, she’s jumping into a very beloved universe, and people were like ‘oh my God, we love her!’ right away. So I’m so happy and it’s like this gift that keeps on giving that I didn’t know I ordered.”

As to whether or not she’ll be returning for Season 2 of Loki? Strong is not willing to answer that just yet. “I actually can’t tell you, cause then I’d have to prune you!”

The first season of Marvel Studios’ Loki is streaming now on Disney+.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Character Breakdowns for Netflix’s ‘Beef’ with Steven Yeun

EXCLUSIVE: Character Breakdowns for Netflix’s ‘Beef’ with Steven Yeun

In March, Netflix announced it was developing a comedy-drama series titled Beef starring both Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Invincible) and Ali Wong (Baby Cobra, Always be my Maybe). The story centers around two people who allow a road rage incident to burrow into their minds and slowly consume their every thought and action.

Since the show’s announcement, though, details regarding the forthcoming series have been sparse. Until now, at least. We here at Murphy’s Multiverse have character breakdowns for some of the other characters set to appear in the Netflix series.

First up is the role of George. The character is said to be an early 30s-40s Japanese-American Male. He is described as the “chiseled and attractive” husband of Amy, who also happens to be the son of a renowned architect and designer. His character is the type who wears full bicycle gear and rides hundreds of miles every morning while listening to the Tom Ferriss podcast. George also happens to be a ceramicist who makes vases that are hard to sell, but he’s keen to focus on his business after his wife, Amy, sells off her own. This role is that of a series regular.

Next up is June, the daughter of Amy and George. The role calls for a young girl between the ages of 4-6 who is Asian-American. June is described as “adorable” and “shy.” She’s also known to have outbursts when she becomes too frustrated. While she is sweet toward both parents, June has a closer relationship with her father. She also enjoys painting, yoga and eating candy. This role is also that of a series regular.

Then there’s Isaac. The character is a Korean-American male who is between his mid-30’s and late 40’s. Isaac is the cousin of Danny and Paul. He is a bigger guy with the build of a high school or amateur football player. Isaac was recently released from jail after being arrested for illegal-export activities. While he believes in traditional Korean values, he will break the law when needed and justify it as being for his family. The character will appear in 7 out of 10 episodes.

Finally, there’s Fumi. This character is a Japanese-American woman in her 60s. She is the mother of George and Amy’s mother-in-law. Fumi is described as elegant and attractive, and she wears head-to-toe designer clothes. She is also the widow of a renowned architect who has never worked a day in her life. With no job, she spends her time as a doting grandmother and visits her son’s family often. Fumi has high expectations of others, including her son, and prides herself on her artistic taste. The character will appear in 7 out of 10 episodes.

Netflix’s Beef consists of 10 episodes and Lee Sung Jin (Dave, Tuca & Bertie) serves as the showrunner.

  • ‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

Earlier this month, it was revealed that actress Kathryn Hahn would reprise her role as Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. However, Marvel Studios not only put an Agatha series into development from WandaVision head scribe Jac Schaeffer, but it also confirmed the actress would return for other Marvel Studios films and series.

Hahn, of course, stole the show as Agatha in WandaVision, with many fans questioning if and when the actress would return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If fans are to believe Hahn regarding Agatha’s return, though, nothing looks to be set in stone. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, clearly has plans for her.

While the spinoff is in development, Hahn is opting to play coy regarding her involvement. While walking the carpet for The Shrink Next Door, Hahn was quick to sidestep any questions regarding the project. “I don’t even know if there is such a thing as a WandaVision spinoff, Honey,” she says to the interviewer. “I have to be honest… All I can say is I love Agatha, and as we know, anything can happen with Marvel. So, who knows?”

All episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+.

As it stands, the planned Agatha Harkness series is still in development with no release date planned.

  • Disney+’s ‘National Treasure’ Adds ‘Total Eclipse’s Lisette Alexis as Series Lead

Disney+’s ‘National Treasure’ Adds ‘Total Eclipse’s Lisette Alexis as Series Lead

It looks like Disney has found the headliner for their upcoming National Treasure series on Disney+. Deadline shared that Lisette Alexis from Total Eclipse fame landed the leading role. Jerry Bruckheimer returns alongside director Jon Turteltaub as executive producers. The pilot was written by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley and will act as an expansion of the original film franchise. Alexis’ character, Jess, will go on an adventure of a lifetime to find out about her past to save a Pan-American treasure.

Mira Nair will direct the pilot episode that expands the world we learned through Nicolas Cage‘s Benjamin Gates. Jess is a brilliant and resourceful mind that can’t get enough of a “good mystery.” Of course, she’s talented in solving them and it ends up leading to her uncovering some long-hidden history, which may connect to her mysterious parents. Episodes will also be written by SuitsRick Muirragui.

They are currently eyeing a production start in 2022. It’s a big step for actress Lisette Alexis, as she just recently starred opposite Sierra McCormick in We Need To Do Something. Her big starring role was in a few episodes of the TV series Total Eclipse as Belle in 2019. It’ll be interesting to see if they build up a potential connection to Gates at some point to interconnect the projects.

  • ‘Squid Game’ Continues to Dominate With Over 3 Billion Minutes Watched in a Week

‘Squid Game’ Continues to Dominate With Over 3 Billion Minutes Watched in a Week

Netflix’s latest blockbuster series from South Korea, Squid Game, has been dominating the streaming market. It’s been all the rage with TikTok videos paying tribute and the recent reveal of a new Funko Pop selection. The series pulled in 142M viewers in just its first four weeks. Nielsen’s U.S. rankings have added an updated top listing and the series managed to become the sixth title to pass 3 billion minutes watched within just a week. As a result, it’s also the best performing series in the United States.

The chart also includes Ted Lasso, What If…?, Only Murders in the Building, and Goliath, but Squid Game was the clear winner. What is interesting to note is that the former Apple TV+ series had its first appearance in the top listing after its Emmy win. Interestingly enough, HBO Max is the only streaming service to enter Nielsen’s top listing regularly. The only exception was Wonder Woman 1984. to put Squid Game’s 3 billion in comparison, the second place went to another Netflix series, Midnight Mass, with 1.71B minutes watched. Lucifer took the third spot with 535M minutes.

Given Netflix’s long history in the streaming market, they are the only streaming service to pass the 3B minutes in a week milestone. Its other series that managed to do so were You, Tiger King, Ozard, The Umbrella Academy, and The Crown. Of these shows, Tiger King managed it twice while Ozark dominated three weeks. It’ll be interesting to see if there are other series that’ll join this special club.

  • Kevin Feige Seems to Confirm ‘What If…?’ Live-Action Crossovers

Kevin Feige Seems to Confirm ‘What If…?’ Live-Action Crossovers

Marvel Studios’ fourth Disney+ installment, What If…? was noteworthy for several reasons. On one hand, it was the studio’s first dive into animation which showcased shorter, mostly standalone stories that remixed movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In other cases, the series managed to tell almost entirely new stories as well. But What If…?’s most important aspect may have been the fact that it was also the MCU’s first look at its own multiverse.

Even though the animated form of the series tends to lessen the perceived importance of the What If…? stories to the greater MCU, it has been rumored before that its characters and concepts may find their way into live-action in the future. Now, it seems as though What If…? crossovers are confirmed.

In the new Marvel Studios: Assembled episode that showcases how What If…? was created, Producer Brad Winderbaum states:

What If…? gives us an opportunity to tell stories with a whole new idea of what the physical reality of the universe is. That is something that’s gonna be explored in other ways moving forward in our films.”

    Brad Winderbaum

The President of Marvel Studios himself, Kevin Feige also added:

“I really believe the deepening fictional mythologies is a way to appreciate them more, is a way to understand them more, look at them in a different way. They’ve got now two seasons of What If…? ideas underway that’s some of the best storytelling we’ve ever had that you may see spin into other mediums. It’s really the most uniquely beautiful animated series I’ve seen in a long time.”

    Kevin Feige

It is safe to say that down the line, some of What If…?‘s characters, or even storylines, from episodes like What If…Zombies!? will almost certainly appear in some form in the live-action MCU Universe. Whether these are brief cameos or total animation-to-live-action transitions remains unknown. Either way, we will continue to see more What If…? content as Season 2 of the series is confirmed and its episodes are already written.

  • Zack Snyder Hints at Ludwig Dieter’s Return in His ‘Army of the Dead’ Sequel Now Titled ‘Planet of the Dead’

Zack Snyder Hints at Ludwig Dieter’s Return in His ‘Army of the Dead’ Sequel Now Titled ‘Planet of the Dead’

Zack Snyder‘s deal with Netflix will continue to bring more content to audiences in the forthcoming years. After this year’s Army of the Dead and the upcoming prequel titled Army of Thieves, which Snyder respectively directed and produced, we are now entering sequel territory with the newly named project, Planet of the Dead. This in-development sequel, that Snyder teased back in May 2021, does not, as of yet, have a release date nor has its production schedule been announced. In an interview, Snyder offered one glimpse into the upcoming sequel with the potential return of Ludwig Dieter.

But the real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives.

    Zack Snyder

With the wait for Planet of the Dead only just beginning, audiences can catch Dieter’s return in the prequel Army of Thieves, which releases tomorrow, October 29, on Netflix. Matthias Schweighofer, who plays the German safecracker, also took over the directing role. Snyder is currently working on his Rebel Moon feature film for the streaming service, a sci-fi adventure inspired by Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars. So, the sequel might not enter production until he wraps up work on it.
