Familiar Faces Returning for ‘The Walking Dead’ Anthology Spinoff

It looks like we finally got the announcement for The Walking Dead‘s next spinoff. Insider has shared that the series will get an anthology series that’ll premiere on AMC and AMC+. The franchise is no stranger to spinoffs that take place in the same world, as it’ll join Fear of the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Channing Powell will serve as showrunner, as it explores stories from new and old characters within this zombie-filled world. The new executive producer shares his excitement for tackling the show.

I started as a fan of ‘The Walking Dead’ and have ended up as a showrunner of what will hopefully be one of its most unique spin-offs. That’s nuts and I’m so grateful to AMC and Scott for supporting me and my writers while we pushed, pulled and poked at the boundaries of this universe to bring you something new and unexpected, while hopefully still tending to what core audiences loved so much about the flagship show.

Tales of the Walking Dead is set to premiere next summer and they’re still being vague on who might make their return in the series. The tease of familiar faces opens up a lot of opportunities for fan-favorites to finally return after they exited the series a long time ago. It looks like

More ‘The Last of Us’ Set Photos Find Their Way Online

HBO is building the apocalypse, as new set photos have found their way online from their upcoming adaptation of The Last Of Us. The popular gaming franchise is making the big leap to live-action, as we once again follow Joel and Ellie on their adventure to give humanity a last bit of hope. We recently got some set photos teasing the post-apocalyptic city that they’ll have to climb through. It looks like production is still busy, as more images have found their way online.

The images don’t offer too many new details, but it does give us a better look at how they’re realizing this dark and gritty world. Everything is overgrown and even the cement is covered. The city surrounding these parts is still in top shape, which means they might utilize greenscreen to show its decay rather than build an entire set. It might even serve as the basis for the game’s version of Boston. Here, Joel and Ellie ended up getting lost in a skyscraper which might be where they are heading or escaped from.

It’s always great to see these projects realized in live-action. The base concept is luckily based on reality, which makes it an easier adaptation. Still, the practical effects at work to show the floor breaking apart and how much detail went into showing how these cars have withered away alongside humanity. As they tease a city landscape, it makes you wonder if we’ll see the iconic sequence where they pet a giraffe. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait too long for a tease of the clickers that inhabit this world.

Jake Gyllenhaal to Lead ‘Prophet’ Adaptation

Prophet Movie to Adapt Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld's Comic - Den of Geek

Jake Gyllenhaal has his hands full. In addition to being the lead of the upcoming Oblivion Song film, we learned this week that he’ll be working with Extraction director Sam Hargrave to bring Rob Leifeld’s Prophet to live-action. Prophet is sort of a Captain America analogue from Image Comics and what’ll be most interesting here is to see if the character will have feet.

    Ultron Bots and the Illuminati

A juicy rumor popped up this week that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would feature some Ultron bots from another reality. It was quickly followed up by the appearance of some leaked concept art that furthers the speculation that the film will feature a version of the Illuminati and that Charles Xavier will be a part of that group. We know Marvel Studios was, at one point, developing an Illuminati series for Disney Plus so they are eager to introduce the group so maybe this is our introduction to the secret society.

James Gunn Back for More DC Action

    Why Krypto Matters | DC

James Gunn’s move to DC has been fruitful for both parties. Fans and critics loved The Suicide Squad and Gunn spun a Peacemaker series, set to debut in January, out of that film. Now the director says he’s got another project in the pipeline, though he’s not tipping his hand just yet. Certainly it’s not Krypto…

Agatha Harkness Spinoff Headed to Disney Plus

WandaVision Secrets Behind Filming Musical Number 'Agatha All Along' Revealed

Most fans knew it was Agatha all along way before the song hit but the reveal that Kathryn Hahn’s character was a 300+ year old power stealing witch was still done well and left a lot of gaps to be filled in. Now Marvel Studios might be able to fill in those gaps in a new Agatha-centric series in development for Disney Plus.

    Hello There!

Hello There: The Obi-Wan Kenobi Show Is Officially Happening

A new rumor suggests that Star Wars fans will be reuniting with an old friend next May (May 4th is a Wednesday, afterall) when the streaming series Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts. Previous rumors had it in March (?) but a release on May the Fourth Be With You Day is pretty sweet!

  • New ‘The Last of Us’ Set Photos Tease Post-Apocalyptic City

New ‘The Last of Us’ Set Photos Tease Post-Apocalyptic City

The Last of Us is a hit series on PlayStation and is going to make its live-action debut on HBO Max in the near future. Naughty Dog is heavily involved with the project that’ll explore a very different kind of post-apocalypse. We’ve gotten glimpses from the set, one scene even teasing the events that kick off the journey that Pedro Pascal‘s Joel will undergo throughout the series. Luckily, Reddit user Sith_Reaper28 also shared some more set photos that highlight how dedicated the team is to bring the post-apocalypse to life.

These photos include various cars and busses overgrown, as they were left in that spot once the fungal infection altered people forever. They went all out to add practical elements that make this world truly come to life. These pictures are taken in Edmonton, Canada but the vehicles have plates for Alberta and Massachusetts, as highlighted by the Redditor. You can check out some of the images right here:

r/thelastofus - Went by the set today in edmonton and the surreal feeling being there was amazing. I didn't even notice at first they changed the license plate from Alberta to Massachusetts plates amazing little detail.

The set photos are quite impressive and it looks like they’re going all out with the post-apocalyptic atmosphere. We still haven’t gotten a look at the Clickers or other various spore-based zombified humans, which they might be trying to keep hidden as much as possible. Their designs might get tweaked to fit the live-action adaptation. It’s interesting that the buildings around haven’t been touched. So, they either were still building the set, or they’ll tackle some elements with visual effects. Still, it’s great to see them recreate these elements practically and respect whoever had to make sure the cars’ windows look like that.

  • Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp Returning for Netflix’s “That ’70s Show’ Spinoff

Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp Returning for Netflix’s “That ’70s Show’ Spinoff

It looks like Netflix truly wants to play with our nostalgia, as Variety has just shared they are developing a spinoff of That ’70s Show titled That ’90s Show. It’ll be a multi-cam sitcom with ten episodes currently ordered. It’ll take place in 1995, where we’ll meet Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna. Over the summer, she’s visiting her grandparents and introduces us to a familiar location 20 years in the future. Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith are set to return as Kitty and Red Forman.

That’s not all that is returning, as alum Gregg Mettler will be serving as showrunner alongside the original’s creators Bonnie, and Terry Turner, who’ll be joined by their daughter Lindsey. Smith and Rupp also join as executive producers. The Carsey-Werner Company’s Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner are also returning to executive produce. We’re seeing a lot of talent return from the 1998 Fox show.

It’s not the first time a continuation was pitched, as they originally wanted to tackle a spinoff in the ’90s way back. So, it’s not too surprising that quite a few of the original writers and even the creators are returning. It’ll be interesting to see how the show captures the spirit and if we might see other familiar faces return. Netflix’s The Ranch acted as a reunion show for many actors from That ’70s Show. The show was popular when it streamed on the service, and it might not be the last time they bring back a classic franchise.

New ‘What If…?’ Funko Pops Include Frost Giant Loki, Ravager Thanos, and More

Finally, the second wave of What If…? Funko Pops have found their way online featuring some of the supporting cast. In each of the episodes, not only do we meet a variety of new twists on iconic stories but also how a simple change alters the entire world. The new Funko Pops include Frost Giant Loki, Ravager Thanos, and quite a few additions from the finale. You can check out the new line of Funkos right here:

Ironically, we believed that Ultron was going to take on the mantle of Supreme Leader, but it turned out he was called Infinity Ultron. So, the inclusion of Killmonger taking on the mantle made us believe he may finally turn out to be him, but he’s also known as Infinity Killmonger. So, the Supreme Leader is very likely the Zola-possessed version of Vision, who doesn’t have an official name as of yet.

  • Don Cheadle Hints at Rhodey’s Future Beyond Armor Wars

Don Cheadle Hints at Rhodey’s Future Beyond Armor Wars

After a relatively long wait, news recently broke that Armor Wars had found its head writer, in Yassir Lester. It’s still very early in the process as Don Cheadle mentioned earlier in the year. He and Marvel Studios were still “talking about what that show is going to be” before hiring Lester.

Cheadle gave us another update yesterday at ACE Universe Comic Con. Not only did he mention a timing update having recently brought the head writer onboard but he also spoke about his excitement for Rhodey’s next stories:

I think the most exciting part is yet to come. I think we don’t really have a super strong idea who he is really, outside of that bubble of the Avengers, outside of necessarily his friendship with Tony, and now he’s gonna kind of be untethered from all of that. So it’s an opportunity to really kind of discover who he is in a way that we have not had before with concentrated time and focus on Rhodey and Rhodey’s journey and hopefully some stuff about his past and and you know teeing up some things about his potential future.  I think those kinds of things were hinted at in an Endgame where where this character might go and the things that may be in the offing for him.

Cheadle also reiterated something he’s said a few times before: it is still early days in the development of the show so despite it being announced almost a year ago now, we shouldn’t really expect to see it anytime soon.

It’s very early in the process of Armor Wars, we just hired my boy Yassir which I’m very excited about. […] A great guy, a lot of great ideas but honestly we’re just really trying to crack the spine of what it’s going to be.

So it seems in talking about Armor Wars teeing up Rhodey’s potential future, it might suggest a future beyond that event itself. As a senior member of the Avengers without some close friends like Tony and Steve around, it remains to be seen whether he will become a mentor to other newer members or simply lead by example. Whatever the case, Armor Wars seems like it will show us the potential first step in a new path for Rhodey.

  • Theory Thursday: Could Larry Become Positive Man in ‘Doom Patrol’ Season 3?

Theory Thursday: Could Larry Become Positive Man in ‘Doom Patrol’ Season 3?

Larry Trainor, aka Negative Man, has been a constant member of the Doom Patrol since its inception – both in the comics and the series. The character has become quite the fan-favorite since his debut in Titans season 1, only growing more and more interesting as the series progressed. Things may never be the same for Negative Man, as the beginning of Season 3 saw Larry split off from The Negative Spirit, also known as Keeg Bovo, and begin to sprout an odd bump that’s got him baffled and quite worried.

Something is different this time around, ever since Season 1, it has been known that once the spirit and Larry separate, it renders Trainor immobile until Keeg bonds with him again. It feels almost as if something could’ve rooted the Negative Spirit out of Larry, possibly even taking its place.

However, this bump may not be much of a worry for Negative Man and could change his life forever. Fans of Gerard Way‘s run on Doom Patrol may know just what is going on with Larry this season, and how after three seasons, Negative Man may be no more. In Weight of The Worlds, Larry became much more accepting of his state and more comfortable with his new team, much like Doom Patrol‘s Negative Man has adapted and overcome throughout the past three seasons. In the comic, Larry sprouts some similar bumps revealed to be excessive positive energy within Larry’s body that had begun to build up and once supercharged by Lotion the Cat, pushes Keeg out, and turns Larry Trainor into the Positive Man.

It seems as though in the series, Keeg became aware of Larry’s new outlook on life and realized his time was up, with the positive energy beginning to take up much of Larry. In the comic, it was Larry’s dog, Hank, that provided him with all that positive energy, but I think here it could be the healing of his past trauma, realizing it wasn’t at fault with what happened with his family, and more importantly finding a new family that accepts him for who he is, especially Rita Farr.

Larry is probably one of the characters in Doom Patrol that really needs that push lately, and to see some significant development. With the new situation at Doom Manor and Larry really closing the chapter on much of his past, this new, much more positive path, seems adequate for him as one of the show’s most beloved team members.

  • Sabrina The Teenage Witch is Coming to Riverdale

Sabrina The Teenage Witch is Coming to Riverdale

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was a fun and relatively darker take on the character of Sabrina Spellman but ultimately met its end a bit too soon. The Netflix original ran for two seasons on the streamer, with each season split into two parts. After Part 2 of Season 2 hit, Netflix ultimately decided not to renew the series for a third season. Upon cancellation, however, it was revealed there were already plans in the works for the next chapter and even a possible Riverdale crossover.

And it looks as though those plans have are finally underway. Riverdale showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed Shipka’s return to Entertainment Weekly and went into detail on the character’s return.

“We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it’s thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our ‘Riverdale’ special event. It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone lost their minds- I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special.”

Perhaps the biggest and most baffling part of this news is the fact that Sabrina Spellman is dead. Sabrina dies to save everyone else from the void, a ritual that brought her to the brink of death and resulted in her being too far gone. So Kiernan Shipka’s return is a surprise, and a welcome one at that, but it’ll be interesting to see how they bring her back.

Shipka will make her Riverdale debut in the sixth season’s fourth episode “The Witching Hour(s).” Sabrina will arrive in town to help Cheryl, who is in the process of performing a very dangerous spell, one that could mean life or death.

Both seasons of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are streaming on Netflix now.

  • Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness Likely to Appear in More Films and Series

Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness Likely to Appear in More Films and Series

Earlier today news broke that an Agatha Harkness spinoff series starring WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn is in development as Marvel Studios. Hahn’s performance as Harkness in the Emmy-winning series received massive fan praise and critical acclaim. Her turn as Harkness even earned her an Emmy nomination in the process.

While spin-offs of any kind are quite common to see after extremely successful and popular original works, they often end there. However, it was reported that Hahn’s series deal is, in fact, part of a larger deal with Marvel Studios. The deal not only encompasses Hahn’s Harkness appearing in more Disney+ projects, it also sets the character up to appear in future films.

The broad deal means Agatha Harkness may be around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time. After all, the character has significant history not only Wanda Maximoff, but also the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four, of course, are gearing up to make their MCU debut in Phase Four. The versatility of a large Marvel deal might allow her to make appearances in several projects that touch on stories vastly different from WandaVision. In any event, it certainly means Agatha Harkness will probably be around to add the mystical side of the MCU in the near future.
