  • RUMOR: ‘THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT’ Will Feature a Revenge Story and New Armor

RUMOR: ‘THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT’ Will Feature a Revenge Story and New Armor

It feels like forever since we last heard new details on The Book of Boba Fett. Intel about the upcoming Disney Plus series has been kept mostly under wraps, but a report from StarWarsNewsNet earlier today might finally have changed that. The article claims the show will see the titular character going after everyone who wronged him in his past and that the search will also include a line-up of other intergalactic bounty hunters. While that plot reveal may be exactly what some fans were hoping for, this next part is a bit more surprising. The site asserts when Boba Fett goes on his grand revenge tour, he’ll do it in a brand new suit of armor.

We’ve seen Boba rock a variety of outfits in the past, but most of them came in the form of animated appearances taking place during his youth. Also, much of the character’s arc in The Mandalorian’s second season revolved around the feared mercenary’s attempts to re-obtain his iconic look. So, it comes as sort of a shock that he would so quickly move on to something new. However, StarWarsNewsNet was sure to point out that actor Temuera Morrison has confirmed flashback sequences in the series. These flashbacks could perhaps be linked to the aforementioned thoughts of revenge, and the use of a wardrobe change is a classic technique to differentiate between past and present scenery.

It has also been suggested that the new digs could be the result of a fun marketing push, with toys based around a new design. After all, the new design is being described as having a “much better paint job” than the last time we saw Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett does not currently has a release date.

  • ‘WHAT IF…?’ Episode 1 Tentacle Monster Is The Same One in Episode 4

‘WHAT IF…?’ Episode 1 Tentacle Monster Is The Same One in Episode 4

With so many rumors pointing to a Shuma Gorath appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it comes as no surprise that the tentacle creature that appeared in the Captain Carter episode of What If…? got fans hyped at a possible early tease. While do not know if that was actually Shuma Gorath, we at least know that the tentacle creature Doctor Strange summons in this latest episode is the same as the one Peggy fought.

We spoke to production designer Paul Lasaine, who told us those two creatures are one and the same.

We don’t actually say it is [the same one in this episode] but we’re pretty positive it is. In fact, even on a technical level, we used that creature as a template.

Regardless of whether it is Shuma Gorath or not, it is peculiar to see a recurring creature throughout the show. It would be weird if it wasn’t Shuma Gorath as we’re dealing with the very things that character is associated with i.e. the multiverse. That creature appearing in the latest episode does make us wonder if it’ll appear again later in the season. With an overarching story for the season, it would certainly make sense to have that consistency.

  • Jeffrey Wright Hints at Big Changes Coming for The Watcher

Jeffrey Wright Hints at Big Changes Coming for The Watcher

Over the course of its run, Marvel Studios animated streaming series What If…? has seen its narrator, The Watcher, insert himself into the stories he’s telling. Episode 4, What If…Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands, gave audiences their first taste of the character actually interacting with others inside the main narrative as an overpowered Doctor Strange became aware of The Watcher before begging him to intervene and save his reality. True to his word, The Watcher refused to interfere and allowed the tragedy of Stephen Strange to unfold. However, according to Jeffrey Wright, who voices The Watcher, episode 4 might be the beginning of a turning point for the character.

In an interview with EW, Wright talks about how episode 4 represents a “shift in attitude” for the character and gives some interesting hints about how that shift might develop over the remaining 5 episodes of the first season.

It’s a shift in attitude for him, and it’s a shift in purpose and intent and all of that stuff for him. That’s a fun gearshift to play. And he also becomes less disembodied. For audiences too, that’s the moment in which he steps into these worlds a little bit closer and steps a little closer to the audience as well. That’s his moment where he knocks on the door.

The Watcher is is compelled by the danger that Strange is conjuring, obviously not only for himself but for his whole reality. For The Watcher there’s only so much he can only watch. He’s not a voyeur for voyeurism’s sake, he is in some ways made up of these characters. Without them, what does he watch? [Laughs] He’s profoundly compelled by them, and maybe there’s only so much he can take. We’ll see.

It seems as though the Watcher’s rules may not be as unbreakable as his calm, stern voice might make audiences believe. Comic readers are already familiar with Uatu’s inability to live by his code and, according to Wright, the MCU version might be headed in the same direction:

Well, I guess the question is, how reliable a narrator is The Watcher? How trustworthy can we be of his description of himself and the rules that he says he abides by? We’ll see.

Wright also indicated that while these stories seem disparate, the fact that they take place in a multiverse of endless possibilities means that one possibility is the separate threads of each episode finding a way to “weave themselves into the other”, something production designer Paul Lasaine backed up in an interview with Murphy’s Multiverse. Episode 4 gave us our first hints at that, including the return of our tentacled friend. As we head into the back stretch of the series, we’re sure to see The Watcher move into a more integral role, perhaps being responsible for assembling the Guardians of the Multiverse.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘WHAT IF…?’ Has A Big Overarching Storyline Yet to Be Revealed

EXCLUSIVE: ‘WHAT IF…?’ Has A Big Overarching Storyline Yet to Be Revealed

As we approach the midpoint of the first season of What If…?, a certain subset of fans have wondered what exactly is the endgame of the show, given the anthological nature of the show. Every episode seems to be its own thing with stories wrapping up as the credits roll (except for Captain Carter). But according to the show’s production designer Paul Lasaine, whom we got to chat with, there is an overarching plot that the show is sneakily setting up.

Obviously, with it being an anthology series, each episode is a standalone. But there is an overarching story which will become more.. [pause] ..without giving spoilers, you’ll see that there is a big storyline going on.

Now, this isn’t particularly new. If you’ve been paying close attention to all the details of this show, you know there’s something happening at the conclusion of the show. But if you haven’t and are worried that the show isn’t going to go anywhere cohesively, this should alleviate some of those concerns.

Based on the remaining episodes we haven’t seen, it looks like the creators of the show are upping the ante in giving us crazier scenarios like Marvel Zombies and Ultron taking over the world. This recent episode alone has started seeding somewhat of an arc for the Watcher. There’s still a lot of stories to build up so that’s something fans can all look forward to.

  • ‘HAWKEYE’ Production Heads to Canada for Additional Photography

‘HAWKEYE’ Production Heads to Canada for Additional Photography

With just about 2 months to go until its debut on Disney Plus, the Marvel Studios streaming series Hawkeye continues production. Some cast and crew recently completed additional photography for the series in Atlanta and now, according to a report from Hollywood North Buzz, crew members are headed to Toronto for another round of additional photography.

Series co-star Jeremy Renner is currently working in Toronto on the Paramount + series Mayor of Kingstown, so this seems to be a case of the studios accommodating his schedule in order to get the additional shots. HNB reports that the shoot will be brief, with work being done on September 7th and 8th.

6 episodes of Hawkeye are set to stream on Disney Plus beginning November 24th. The anticipated series will see Hailee Steinfeld join the MCU as Kate Bishop, introduce Alqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo ahead of her own spinoff series and is strongly rumored to feature the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘POWER PACK’ No Longer In Active Development

EXCLUSIVE: ‘POWER PACK’ No Longer In Active Development

Once upon a time, Marvel Studios was looking at several obscure comic properties to bring to the big screen, in an attempt to kickstart some financial backing for the newly-founded studio. One of those properties was Shang-Chi, which comes out later this week in theaters, and Power Pack.

We spoke with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings producer Jonathan Schwartz about Power Pack, a project he was coincidentally attached to produce at some point in the past decade, and its current status.

It’s one of those things we look at and talk about every once in a while. We’ll probably get there eventually but it’s not something super active at the moment.

For the uninitiated, Power Pack is a superhero team made up of pre-teen siblings with powerful cosmic abilities who’d go on crazy cosmic adventures together. The property has been in and out of development throughout the years, with the most recent iteration being the one Schwartz was attached to.

With so many unique things in development, it is pretty surprising to know that Power Pack is currently not in Marvel Studios’ sights at the moment. Power Pack feels like a property that would be served really well in animation, similar to What If…?. Let’s cross our fingers they finally do something with it because that is a bankable property.

  • ‘THE CROODS: FAMILY TREE’ Series Heading to Hulu and Peacock

‘THE CROODS: FAMILY TREE’ Series Heading to Hulu and Peacock

DreamWorks isn’t done with the Croods family quite yet, as they just announced a brand new animated series based on the popular film franchise titled The Croods: Family Tree. It’s heading to Hulu and peacock and will start streaming as of September 23rd. Mark Banker and Todd Grimes are serving as executive producers on the series. We also got a brand new poster for the new series:

The story will continue where A New Age left off, as the Croods and the Bettermans learn to live together in an ideal prehistoric farm. You can expect a lot of misadventures as the two families try to overcome their differences as they adjust to living together in a tree house. Kelly Marie Tran once again voices Dawn with Amy Landecker joining as Ugga.

The franchise started back in 2013 which explored the prehistoric family. Initially, the cast consisted of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman, and Clark Duke. They returned for the sequel film but will be voiced by other actors in the series. The film was one of the few that managed to release during last year’s pandemic and tested the waters on how the Box Office may perform. You can check out the first trailer here:

  • HBO’s ‘THE LAST OF US’ Pilot Wraps Production With First Look at New Logo

HBO’s ‘THE LAST OF US’ Pilot Wraps Production With First Look at New Logo

HBO has been hard at work preparing their upcoming adaptation of Naughty Dog’s popular The Last of Us. We got our first look at the series entering production back in July, which featured Pedro Pascal as Joel and Pedro Gabriel Luna‘s Tommy. It teased a very familiar scene from the original game’s intro. Russian director Kantemir Balagov was hired to direct the pilot for the series and he just took to his Instagram to share that he has wrapped work on the episode’s pilot. In the image, he also shares a look at the production logo for the series.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CTOazs-LKHG/

It’s sad that the director was only attached for the pilot, but hopefully he may return for a future season. The adapation will bring the story of Joel and Ellie to life, as they travel through the United States on the search for the Fireflies. It’s their only hope to utilize Ellie’s immunity to save humanity. We still don’t know if the series might take a unique route, especially as they added a few new names to the cast, such as the original voice of Tommy, Jeffrey Pierce, playing a new character.

While Balagov took over directing duties for the pilot, other episodes will be taken over by Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi. The series focus on introducing some internationaly acclaimed directors is a great move, as it offers quite a bit of diversity to make the series stand out from the original game franchise.

  • Bridget Regan Cast as Poison Ivy in The CW’s ‘BATWOMAN’

Bridget Regan Cast as Poison Ivy in The CW’s ‘BATWOMAN’

It looks like another classic member of Batman’s infamous rogues gallery is joining the CW. Variety revealed today that actress Bridget Regan will bring Poison Ivy to life on The CW’s Batwoman series, as of the show’s upcoming third season. The show’s take on the character will see Pamela Isley as a former botany student at Gotham University. She is described as a passionate, brilliant scientist with a mind for making the world a better place. Unfortunately, she was taken off course when a colleague used her for experimentation, injecting her with various plant toxins that imbued Isley with the Poison Ivy power set.

Variety highlights the character did what she thought was right, until Batman took her down for her crimes. Now, Batwoman will have to deal with her vengeful return. Regan is no stranger to comic adaptations, having previously appeared as a recurring villain on ABC’s Agent Carter. She is also known for her roles in the hit shows Jane the Virgin and White Collar.

Regan follows in the footsteps of many performers before her, with Uma Thurman famously portraying the character in the late 90’s film Batman & Robin and multiple women taking on the role for the cult favorite Gotham series. Lake Bell currently portrays the character on HBO Max’s animated Harley Quinn. It’ll be interesting to see what new twist she adds to the character, whose gone through many iterations.

  • RUMOR: Netflix’s ‘AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER’ Live-Action Series Casting Azula

RUMOR: Netflix’s ‘AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER’ Live-Action Series Casting Azula

Avatar The Last Airbender made its streaming debut last year right as the pandemic struck the world, acting as a bit of light in a tough time for everyone. The show struck quite the cord once again, causing everyone to fall back in love with the show’s story and characters. With everyone ablaze about the series many quickly remembered that Netflix was deep in the development of a live-action adaption of the beloved story, a bittersweet concept for some.

Azula's Creepy Ladies Are the Best Part of Avatar

Casting for Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko was just recently revealed by Netflix as the project takes one giant leap forward. It seems that the studio may also be actively casting for the role of Princess Azula, Zuko’s estranged sister and daughter of Fire Lord Ozai. AvatarNews is reporting that the role of Azula is being cast for the first season. No details on the casting have been made, but casting will likely test out the actresses chemistry with Dallas Liu, who was recently cast in the role of Zuko.

The casting of Azula may raise quite a few eyebrows for many die-hard fans of the series. While she is quite the fan favorite, she has no role in the first season. It’s not until the end where she is tasked with hunting the Avatar and her brother Zuko by the Fire Lord. It’s right on the heals when her brother betrayed the Fire Nation. It’s possible the actress may not debut until the very end of the season, or we get more background on the sibling’s relationship before she is tasked with hunting him down.
