  • ‘Ms. Marvel’ Co-Creator Sana Amanat Talks on Disney+ Series New Take on Kamala Khan’s Abilities

‘Ms. Marvel’ Co-Creator Sana Amanat Talks on Disney+ Series New Take on Kamala Khan’s Abilities

There has been a lot of debate on the changes made to Ms. Marvel’s abilities. The upcoming Disney+ series by the same name will mostly follow the character of Kamala Khan, who was first introduced back in 2014. Marvel’s first Muslim-American superhero had a very specific ability that many called Embiggening where her body stretches in creative ways or even just grow entirely. Yet, the Ms. Marvel trailers teased she’ll have some crystal and cosmic-inspired abilities. People were concerned about what it might mean for her moving forward, but Ms. Marvel co-creator Sana Amanat has now opened up about the change from the comics.

Amanat played a vital role in bringing the character to life together with writer G. Willow Wilson, artist Adrian Alphona, and editor Steve Wacker. She highlights the adaptation and says she’s also actively discussed the changes with fellow creator Willow highlighting they agreed with the direction the project took with her abilities.

Obviously, so much of the show is an adaptation, and we thought it was important to make sure that her powers are linking to larger stories in the Marvel universe. We wanted to make sure there is a little bit more story to tell after this series. Obviously, she goes into The Marvels. The powers do look different, which is very controversial. I know people are like, “How dare you change the powers!” I know people are upset about it, but as someone who’s probably one of the closest people to this character from the inception, and having spoken to Willow about this as well, I think Willow and I have always felt that this made sense. This was the right move because there are bigger stories to tell.

    Sana Amanat

One might argue that sacrificing her original abilities for “bigger stories” to tell, but that may further hint that we’ll get a better view of why the changes were made once the series releases on Disney+. It also seems like Amanat confirms that the metaphorical and visual standpoint of the abilities will remain even with their more cosmic direction.

It’s really fun to give Kamala different kinds of powers that feel big in scope and cinematic in a different way. We can do a lot of fun things with her. I don’t want to spoil too much about how she uses her powers, but they’re fun and bouncy. At the same point, the essence of what the powers are in the comics is there, both from a metaphorical standpoint and from a visual standpoint. We’re doing the embiggened fist. We’re doing the elements that make her feel and look kind of crazy, but also really cool. I think it’s going to be familiar to people, but at the same time, different in a fresh and unique way.

    Sana Amanat

The powers haven’t been highlighted too much in the trailers. So, we’ll see how exactly it might tackle these themes that made the character stand out in the past. Many that have been worried about the adaptation point out that it takes away from her character, but it seems that is something they’ve definitely going to remain while promising it’s simply just a “fresh” perspective on something comic readers have come to love over the years.

  • Disney+ Delays Release of ‘Moon Knight’s BTS ‘Assembled’ Special

Disney+ Delays Release of ‘Moon Knight’s BTS ‘Assembled’ Special

It looks like one of the Assembled episodes has been delayed, as Moon Knight’s was originally going to release today. Still, Disney has seemingly made the decision o postpone it to 25th May 2022. This delay marks the second time it has happened for any Marvel Studios shorts that take a peek behind the curtain on how these projects are done. The same happened with their last Disney+ series Hawkeye, which was delayed into February instead of its initial January release. Surprisingly, we also never got a poster release for the series, which has also been a tradition up to this point.

There’s been a surprising development of these projects being turned into individual episodes rather than having them as part of the initial Assembled series. The change was made with Hawkeye, which may have seen a spike in viewership as a standalone episode rather than bundled with the series due to the sporadic release schedules depending on when the films and series are released.

Here’s hoping that they do eventually fold them back into the Assembled series at a later date for those wanting to catch up on everything they missed. The upcoming episode on Moon Knight also will include a particular “roundtable discussion” featuring the directors of the series. We initially saw the Disney Gallery: The Making of The Mandalorian, which kicked off the idea of mini-documentaries based on the popular series. We’ll see if they start promoting the special as we near its new release date in a few weeks.

  • REPORT: ‘Rogue One’s Death Troopers to Return in ‘Andor’ Disney+ Series

REPORT: ‘Rogue One’s Death Troopers to Return in ‘Andor’ Disney+ Series

All eyes are right now on Obi-Wan Kenobi, as the six-part limited series is about to release in just a few weeks. Of course, the excitement is big to see the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in their iconic roles. Yet, that’s not all heading our way this year, as we also have the Rogue One prequel series, Andor, heading our way and it seems some familiar Stormtrooper designs will make their grand return.

According to Bespin Bulletin, we will not only see the Death Troopers return, but also Mudtroopers. The former will appear in a sequence alongside white officers, but there’s been no word if we might see the return of Ben Mendelsohn‘s Director Krennic. There’s a good chance that they are simply remaining consistent that the Death Troopers work for high-ranking officers of the Imperial Security Bureau. They are also supposedly joined by Mudtroopers, but no further details are offered.

The Death Troopers may be one of the most iconic designs for the many iterations of Stormtroopers we’ve seen over the years. While it’s still a shame we aren’t exploring the life of a Stormtrooper in a series, perhaps we’ll see Cassian Andor infiltrating the Empire as a Stormtrooper, which leads to some interactions between him and others. We may also find out more about what exactly the function of Death Troopers is, as their name does give a big hint on what they’re most known for. We’re still waiting for a release date for the series, but it seems likely that it may follow once Ms. Marvel is released its finale on Disney+ going by the current release.

  • Devon Sawa Returns to Syfy’s ‘Chucky’ Season 2 as a New Character

Devon Sawa Returns to Syfy’s ‘Chucky’ Season 2 as a New Character

If you thought Chucky was unkillable, it seems the same could be said of actor Devon Sawa. After being killed twice in the first season of the new Chucky Syfy series, he’ll return in the next entry as well. After playing the now dead twins, Logan and Lucas Wheeler, he will take on a new role in the second season. The actor shared a video where he read his invitation to return, which was written in a way that Chucky sent him the letter.

I don’t usually make these videos but I just wanted to read this email from my costar, so you can see what I go through,” explains Sawa in the clip. “It says, ‘Dear Gavin Sawa, I hope this email finds you well, I just want you to know that the only reason that you’re here is because I allowed it. Have a great season 2. Love, Chucky. P.S. Just kidding, you suck.

    Gavin Sawa

Sawa has quite a history with horror films, as he’s also appeared in Final Destination, Black Friday, and many more films. It also looks like he left quite an impression with show creator Don Mancini, the creator of the Chucky‘s main character. He’s had the habit of recasting actors in the past, such as Jennifer Tilly not only playing the doll’s girlfriend Tiffany Valentine but even a version of herself.

Fiona Dourif, the daughter of Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif, also played Nica Pierce in the 2013 film Curse of Chucky but went on to appear in the first season as the human form of the original serial killer that would become Chucky, Charles Lee Ray. So, Mancini has his fun with bringing actors back in creative ways.

  • ‘Moon Knight’ Originally Included a Kang Reference

‘Moon Knight’ Originally Included a Kang Reference

Loki set up the big bad of the multiversal conflict in He Who Remains, who is actually a Variant of Kang the Conqueror. We did get a good look at a statue of Jonathan Majors wearing the iconic look from the comics. We know he’ll make an appearance in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel but was surprisingly absent in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Though, it seems that he was originally going to be referenced in Moon Knight according to head writer Jeremy Slater.

There was a line in the script, and I don’t know if it survived. I can’t remember. But there was a line where, I think Steven, is sort of rattling off some Egyptian history that he has locked away in his brain, and he did mention Rama-Tut. I don’t remember if that scene, if that line is still in the show or not. But it was that small, it was him mentioning a list of famous pharaohs or something like that. But that was Nick Pepin, one of our executives at Marvel, that was his idea to sort of slip that in there as a fun Easter egg.

    Jeremy Slater

There was a visual reference that was still included that seemed like it was taken from the comics, but you don’t get a good enough look at what it is. The fact we may explore Kang’s time as Rama-Tut would be quite interesting, and hopefully, we’ll see a lot more of his many Variants in the future, as He Who Remains was only one of many. For now, we’ll have to wait but Kang’s future role in the MCU is definitely going to be an exciting one.

  • ‘West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Westworld’ Season 4

‘West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Westworld’ Season 4

Westworld has hit the jackpot, as they have added West Side Story actress and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose in the fourth season. The actress has been on a hot streak after winning a Golden Globa, a SAG Award, and an Oscar for her performance as Anita in the Steven Spielberg remake of the classic musical. So, it’s no wonder that any project is trying to get her to join and it seems Westworld won out.

Sadly, details on her character remained undisclosed, but she will have a recurring guest star role throughout the series’ upcoming season. The news is also perfectly timed, as we just got the teaser trailer for the fourth season, which is given a vague description as “a dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” The trailers highlight just how far the series came from its initial season of a robot-filled Western holiday park.

DeBose is a fantastic addition and it’ll be interesting to see how her character plays into the story. She joins an already stacked cast that includes Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Aaron Paul, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth, and Thandiwe Newton. We’ll see if we get more teases and cast additions as the show continues to build up to its upcoming season’s release.

  • London Thor, More Join Cast of ‘The Boys’ Spin-off

London Thor, More Join Cast of ‘The Boys’ Spin-off

In the time since the the first spin-off for The Boys was announced, a second, animated anthology spin-off, Diabolical, was put into production and released, featuring an all-star team of talent. The original spin-off is still forthcoming, but creative issues have slowed down its arrival, including the studio moving on from original showrunner Craig Rosenberg, and replacing him with Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas.

Along with the exit of Rosenberg, the project saw a few previously announced actors who were attached to the project depart. Some left due to scheduling issues while others had their roles completely reworked and just didn’t fit the type any longer. Reina Hardesty was one of the most recent departures, choosing to move on after her role was reworked. Deadline has announced that London Thor will be replacing Reina as one of the leads in the spin-off.

In addition to Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Shelly Conn are also joining the project as series regulars. As of right now Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway and Maddie Phillips remain attached as initially announced members of the cast.

The casting news means the series is getting closer to heading into production, but at the moment there’s still no timeframe for its release. Fortunately, the third season of The Boys is set to hit Amazon Prime with a three-episode premiere on June 8th.

  • John Krasinski-led ‘Jack Ryan’ Series to End With Season 4, Spinoff in Development

John Krasinski-led ‘Jack Ryan’ Series to End With Season 4, Spinoff in Development

Here’s a surprise, it looks like the popular adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will come to an end with its fourth season on Amazon Prime. John Krasinski was leading the series and also is an executive producer role, as he continues work on the final season that is currently being filmed. While it will end the series that Paramount TV Studios, Skydance TV, and Amazon Studios have been working on for a while, they are currently already eyeing a spinoff series.

It seems that the character of Domingo “Ding” Chavez, who will be played by Michael Peña, will get his own series to further continue the Tom Clancy franchise. He’ll be introduced in the season finale of Season 3 and become a full-time cast member in its final season. It seems that these won’t release for some time and it is the reason that the third season hasn’t received a release date just yet. According to Deadline, it seems that we shouldn’t expect a new season by 2023.

The interesting surprise comes from the fact that Krasinski has seemingly signed on for four seasons from the get-go. So, they may have mapped out this upcoming season as its end for some time now. There have been many Jack Ryan’s in the past, who was played by Chris Pine, Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford, and Alec Baldwin. While it was a big role to step in, Krasinski also took on a bigger role throughout his work on the series, as he also took on a showrunner-esque role in the latter seasons. For now, we can only continue to wait for more details as they continue to work on the series.

  • REPORT ‘Daredevil’ & Co. May be Heading to Disney+ Brazil in June

REPORT ‘Daredevil’ & Co. May be Heading to Disney+ Brazil in June

While being surprised that the Marvel Netflix series wasn’t seeing an international release, they are slowly starting to roll them out in other countries. While there’s no official reveal on the official Twitter account, a Twitter user by the name of @almanaquedisney has shared a familiar visual to those that were hyped when the Marvel Netflix series were making their way to Disney+ stateside.

According to them, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and the rest of the Defenders will make their way to Disney+ Brazil on June 29th. They will also come with the same parental controls as the United States got with their initial release. There is currently still no word if it’ll also find its way to European countries around the same time, as there was a statement from the Netherlands that hinted at a June release. So, we might see a similar release date. The release has not yet been officially released on the official Twitter page and may have only been shared through a newsletter.

Here’s hoping an official statement drops soon, but the June release is motivating that the series will be made available for all Disney+ subscribers at some point. It’s still surprising that there has been a delay with an international release, especially as those countries with the Star branding already have a function age restriction service built-in. So, we’ll see if more countries get the announcement in the coming weeks.

  • Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Won’t Appear in Agatha’s ‘WandaVision’ Spinoff

Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Won’t Appear in Agatha’s ‘WandaVision’ Spinoff

WandaVision may have set up Scarlet Witch’s storyline going into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it also set up a new spinoff focused on Kathryn Hahn‘s Agatha Harkness. The fittingly titled Agatha: House of Harkness will continue the storyline of the now-trapped Agatha, who is still stuck living in Westview. It made us wonder if we might expect a return of Elizabeth Olsen to that series, but she swiftly debunked it in an interview with Good Morning America.

I mean, I would do anything with Hahn, yeah. No, I’m not appearing in it, not as far as I’m aware, but I love that woman so much. That entire show was just filled with lots of joy, it was great.

    Elizabeth Olsen

While it’s a shame they won’t build upon their relationship from the previous entry, given how Multiverse of Madness ends it does seem unlikely she might show up in that series. Of course, it’s also great to use this as a way to further explore Agatha as a character on her own terms rather than just continue their relationship as the basis of her entire character dynamic. Even the Echo spinoff is fully moving away from Hawkeye even if that’s the series she was introduced in. So, we’ll see just what the future has in store for Agatha moving forward.
