  • Michael Giacchino’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ Disney+ Halloween Special Started Production

Michael Giacchino’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ Disney+ Halloween Special Started Production

While still not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, the long-rumored Werewolf by Night Disney+ special has started production in Georgia. The official website has revealed that a Disney+ project with the working title “Buzzcut” was currently in production, which was revealed back in August to belong to the Disney+ Halloween Special. Technically, it still has no title only that Michael Giacchino will direct the special with Gael Garcia Bernal in the title role.

The production start matches that was first reported last month, as it was originally going to start mid-March before getting pushed back by a few weeks. Looks like they still managed to keep it within the timing window to ensure it’ll be able to release by Halloween of this year. It’ll be the second Special for the MCU, as they also have a Christmas Special on the horizon for Guardians of the Galaxy.

It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle a special, especially if it introduces a completely new character into the MCU. They seem to be building up a Midnight Suns team with each new darker addition. Here’s hoping we get an official name soon, as the project is already entering production and we have no idea what it’s going to be called or even an official word from Marvel Studios.

  • Michael Giacchino Confirmed to Direct Marvel Studios’ First Halloween Disney+ Special

Michael Giacchino Confirmed to Direct Marvel Studios’ First Halloween Disney+ Special

It’s been quite some time since we first heard about Marvel Studios working on a Disney+ Halloween special. the idea is exciting, as there are a lot of characters to choose from with rumors going crazy that it’ll be focused on Werewolf by Night. A recent interview on The Batman‘s score even added more hints that composer Michael Giacchino was taking on directing duties. for an unnamed Marvel Studios project Now, we finally have the official confirmation that he is indeed tackling the Halloween special.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed his involvement with the project, which is eyeing a production start at some point this month in Atlanta. Laura Donnelly and Gael Garcia Bernal are involved with the project; castings we’ve heard about for some time now. The article does add that Bernal is very likely taking on the role of a werewolf in the project. They also mention that music played a key part in the recent revamp that helped the character control his abilities. Perhaps that was also an inspiration to have the composer tackle the project.

The project still remains untitled and hasn’t been officially announced what it’s about. It’s interesting they are introducing a character initially introduced in Moon Knight #32, but it doesn’t seem like there will be a connection with his upcoming series. Though we still have some time until it releases and perhaps we’ll get a post-credit announcement for the spinoff with Moon Knight facing off against the unlikely foe in the special.

  • Michael Giacchino Already Started Work on the Rumored ‘Werewolf by Night’ Disney+ Special

Michael Giacchino Already Started Work on the Rumored ‘Werewolf by Night’ Disney+ Special

Just last month, we’ve reported on a rumor that the long-rumored Werewolf by Night Halloween special for Disney+ was going to start production in March. While it originally stated that it wouldn’t start until mid-March, it looks like it may have already started work early. The reason is that a new article by Variety on The Batman‘s score, which was done by Marvel veteran Michael Giacchino, wasn’t able to get him to join in on discussing their approach to the project. The reasoning: he is currently busy directing a television project for Marvel.

It’s been rumored for some time that the composer is going to direct the Werewolf by Night project, which hasn’t officially been given a name by Disney or Marvel Studios. They don’t mention the project by name but do confirm it’s a “television project for Marvel,” which further adds to the rumors that it’s the Halloween special. The project has cast Gael Garcia Bernal as its titular star with The NeversLaura Donnelly also joining the project in an unknown role that may be Nina Price, also known as Vampire by Night.

Here’s hoping we get a few more details on the project, as there is no title or real announcement for its release. It does seem like it’s eyeing a release later this year, but the fact they haven’t really announced anything is still curious, but we’ll see. The fac they are trying out Holiday and Halloween specials does bode well that we could see these types of projects more often in the future to shed some light on minor characters that otherwise wouldn’t have been featured.

  • What ‘Daredevil’ and Co.’s Disney+ Addition Might Mean for Marvel Studios’ Future

What ‘Daredevil’ and Co.’s Disney+ Addition Might Mean for Marvel Studios’ Future

It’s been long-rumored now since the Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more are making their way to Disney+. After many back-and-forths online, the confirmation has finally arrived, as they dropped a sudden teaser that they are joining the series on March 16th. The big takeaway is that the streaming service is embracing more mature content without restricting it to other services, especially as they went out of their way to offer bundles with Hulu. Yet, this addition might have bigger implications for Marvel Studios’ future ventures.

The timing for these additions is perfect with a darker-toned Moon Knight just on the horizon. Not just that, but it also means that older R-rated projects like Blade, Deadpool, Logan, or more can get added soon. Not just that, we know that Deadpool 3 is going to be an R-rated project and now we don’t have to worry about it potentially landing on Hulu. It’ll be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it would’ve been a shame if it wasn’t going to be part of the showcase in Disney+.

The streamer was showcased as an “archive” for classic projects from Marvel, Pixar, and any other Disney brand. So, its family-friendly focus is not only restrictive from an archival standpoint but also creatively. They lost a lot of projects early on due to this restriction, such as the Lizzie McGuire revival and pushing the Love Simon spinoff, Love Victor, to Hulu. While it seems unlikely we’ll get an R-rated Pixar film any time soon, Marvel and Star Wars are very different stories. This move might be an implication that Disney+ Original projects will no longer fully adhere to the streaming’s initial set-up.

Marvel may be able to fully embrace the darker and more mature tones that upcoming projects may have. Moon Knight is a big implication of Disney+ maturing, which we’ve talked bout here, but it also means R-rated projects are a possibility. The long-rumored Werewolf by Night project can embrace the darker aspects of having a werewolf-centric story. Their Blade remake might also start moving towards an R-rating, as there are no longer concerns about streaming availability being restricted to specific services.

There’s also the continuation to keep in mind, as we know Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returned in the roles they made famous. Rumors are hinting at a new Daredevil revival, which now can embrace the darker story arcs introduced through the Netflix incarnations. There are more mature storylines possible now that the glass ceiling has been broken. It may be a small step for now, but once Deadpool or Logan get added with the parent control sometime in the future, we might be able to see the first steps for a new MCU.

  • REPORT: Marvel Studios’ Rumored ‘Werewolf by Night’ Special Now Eyeing March Production Start

REPORT: Marvel Studios’ Rumored ‘Werewolf by Night’ Special Now Eyeing March Production Start

We’ve been waiting for some tie on an update for the Disney+ Halloween special that is currently in development from Marvel Studios. It’s been long rumored that the project is an adaptation of Werewolf by Night, but that has yet to be confirmed. Last month, we’ve learned that Laura Donnely has joined the project alongside Gael Garcia Bernal, who will play Jack Russell in the story. One Take News has offered a small update on the project’s production.

It seems it was originally going to start in February, but production was pushed back to mid-March. It’s unclear what may have led to the later start, but it seems they are soon to finish the casting process on the special. The interesting tidbit is that the production will only run for around two to three weeks. So, we shouldn’t expect a full-on film production for this project.

Composer Michael Giacchino is currently attached to direct the project, and if they start production soon, we might get some kind of announcement by Marvel Studios sooner rather than later. If they are filming this early, they might be planning in quite a bit of effect work to prepare it for a Halloween release later this year. Perhaps we’ll get a tease on the project during the upcoming Moon Knight series, which will also jump straight into the supernatural corners of the MCU. We’ll see if there are also other specials heading our way in the near future if this one turns out popular.

  • ‘The Nevers’ Laura Donnelly Joins Marvel Studios’ Rumored ‘Werewolf By Night’ Halloween Special

‘The Nevers’ Laura Donnelly Joins Marvel Studios’ Rumored ‘Werewolf By Night’ Halloween Special

It looks like Marvel Studios is moving full steam ahead with their Halloween special, which has long been teased to be about the iconic Werewolf by Night or also known as Jack Russell. Some time ago, Gael Garcia Bernal joined the project as its main star and Deadline has now shared that The NeversLaura Donnelly has also joined the project in an undisclosed role. They believe she might be playing Nina Price, who eventually becomes Vampire by Night and is Jack Russel’s niece.

The character is actually not just a vampire, but also a werewolf hybrid. It’s not an uncommon trope within vampire stories, as the concept has also been explored in series like The Vampire Diaries. Her inclusion could hint at this being more than just the story of a man fighting his transformation into a werewolf. Deadline believes the project will start production soon, as it’s eyeing a release during next year’s Halloween.

Donnelly is a great catch, as she’s well known for her role in the HBO series The Nevers, Outlander, Britannia, and The Fall. She also had some cinematic outings with Tolkien and The Program. It’ll be interesting to see if her role might expand into a bigger one, especially with Marvel Studios introducing more horror-themed characters. Perhaps she and Bernal signed on for multiple projects, like a potential Midnight Sons crossover.

  • Michael Giacchino to Direct a Marvel Studios Streaming Project

Michael Giacchino to Direct a Marvel Studios Streaming Project

No, you didn’t read the headline wrong nor did we mistype. Composer Michael Giacchino, who has worked with Marvel Studios on Doctor Strange, two Spider-Man films and Thor: Love and Thunder, is rumored to be on board to direct one of Marvel Studios’ upcoming streaming projects for Disney Plus.

The rumor comes by way of The Illuminerdi, who point out that Werewolf By Night, Echo and Ironheart are among the streaming projects up next for Marvel Studios. As we pointed out here, Sydney Freeland is likely to be directing Echo, taking one potential project off the board for Giacchino. Out of the other two projects, Giacchino seems a much better fit for Werewolf By Night, especially given that his two prior director jobs were shorts. Werewolf By Night is expected to be a short, one-off film rather than an extended series like Ironheart.

Giacchino’s previously worked behind the camera on an episode Star Trek: Short Treks and the comedy short, Monster Challenge, which starred Patton Oswalt. Should Giacchino be directing Werewolf By Night, which is expected to film from February through March, it’s likely he’ll be happy with the work of the composer. This is an interesting choice for Marvel Studios, experimenting with a relatively inexperienced director on their first streaming movie.

Werewolf By Night will star Gael Garcia Bernal as the lead character, rumored to be Jack Russell, and is expected to stream sometime during Spooky Season 2022.

  • RUMOR: Gael Garcia Bernal to Play Jack Russell in ‘Werewolf By Night’

RUMOR: Gael Garcia Bernal to Play Jack Russell in ‘Werewolf By Night’

Early last month, Golden Globe winner Gael Garcia Bernal joined the cast of Marvel Studios Halloween Special, Werewolf By Night. At the time of his casting, it was widely assumed that Bernal would be playing Jake Gomez, the most recent Marvel Comics’ character to carry the burden of lycanthropy. A new rumor from The Illuminerdi contradicts that report and indicates that Bernal is instead playing Jack Russell, the original Werewolf By Night.

In the comics, lycanthropy has been part of Russell’s family line dating back to 1795 when his ancestor, Grigori Russoff first became a werewolf after being bitten by one following a battle with Dracula, of course. The curse of the werewolf was passed through generations, with some assistance from the Darkhold (which now plays a prominent part in the MCU), until it manifested in Russell. Over time, Russell used his powers as a werewolf to battle evil, serving at one point as part of the Midnight Sons.

It’s worth noting that the Illuminderi’s report indicates that another “by nighter”, Vampire By Night, could be joining the party in Werewolf By Night. That character, Nina Price, is the niece of Russell and a vampire/werewolf hybird. Price carried the lycanthropy in her DNA and was further changed after being, of course, bitten by a vampire.

Werewolf By Night is set to go into production in February and is being billed as a “one-off movie” for Disney Plus. It is expected to complete filming by the end of March and ready to stream for Spooky Season 2022.

  • BREAKING: Gael Garcia Bernal Boards Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night

BREAKING: Gael Garcia Bernal Boards Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night

Gael Garcia Bernal is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Per The Wrap, the actor is set to headline the forthcoming Disney+ Halloween Special from Marvel Studios believed to be Werewolf by Night. Details on the forthcoming project are sparse, however, production is slated to begin in early 2022.

With the project thought to be Werewolf by Night, it seems likely the actor is playing the Jake Gomez iteration of the character. Gomez, of course, was the second Werewolf by Night of the character, having debuted in Werewolf by Night #1 by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff and Scot Eaton. Prior to Gomez, there was Jack Russell, the first Werewolf by Night, who was created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog and first appeared in a 1972 issue of Marvel Spotlight.

Bernal is a huge get for Marvel Studios and Disney+. The Mexican-born actor has built up quite a resume throughout his career, having starred in Coco for Disney, as well as nabbing the leading role in Amazon’s critically-acclaimed Mozart in the Jungle. He most recently starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. Up next for the actor is the HBO Max miniseries Station Eleven, based on Emily St. John Mandel’s novel of the same name.

Prior to Bernal’s casting, it was thought Marvel Studios was eyeing Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Hamilton) for the leading role.
