Marvel Studios President Had One Request for ‘Ms. Marvel’s Mutant Reveal

Ms. Marvel may have changed the game for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it was the first instance that the mutants were introduced into the mainline timeline. While we still don’t know when we can expect some more familiar faces, we did get a rather familiar tune to accompany the reveal. As it turns out, this was an idea that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had when they discussed how to reveal it.

According to Bisha K. Ali, the series creator, it was Feige’s idea to include the music element to highlight that she is a mutant. She also shared her excitement to further explore the character’s future and be part of this new X-Men era

Well, to begin with, it was the last thing we read. So that was a best-kept secret. Nobody knew about it until we read the last version of the script and all of a sudden it was like, damn. And then we would ask producers about it and we would not get any answers. Then Kevin Feige said: Just shoot this, put the little music on, and that’s it. We can only hope that we be part of the future of “Ms. Marvel” because it would be super nice to have some “X-Men” flavor in there.

    Bisha K. Ali

While some have called it “milking” the 90s nostalgia, there’s a genius aspect to the musical cue given that not only is a reboot on the horizon, but it also gives the franchise an audio cue. If they are interested in introducing the Inhumans and other super-powered characters, the mutant element is given an easy indicator for the audience to instantly make the connection.

  • New ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ BTS Images Offer Closer Look at Bastet

New ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ BTS Images Offer Closer Look at Bastet

We were all quite excited for the arrival of Thor: Love and Thunder, as it would expand our understanding of godhood in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While our visit to Omnipotence City was relatively brief, it did feature a host of interesting characters scattered throughout a sequence.

Now, the most significant addition was that we could briefly see what looks to be Bastet in the foreground. While she sadly didn’t receive any lines, a new batch of behind-the-scenes photos shared by Luca Vannella offers the best look yet at her design from the film, which highlights her Egyptian background.

It’s still bizarre they’d include such a monumental character of Balck Panther’s mythology and not even explore it in the story. We got a few short moments, and there’s some great inclusion of New Zealand deities, but we sadly didn’t quite get to explore the other pantheons throughout, even if Moon Knight already had us covered there.

Perhaps they are setting up some more exploration of godhood that will be forced to get involved once a certain Conqueror potentially gets his way. We’re still in the set-up phase and there is a lot to be excited about. So, we’ll see where it’s all heading with SDCC heading our way starting today.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Actor Teases SDCC Attendance

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Actor Teases SDCC Attendance

There have been many theories on what exactly we might expect from Marvel Studios’ upcoming panel. Theories have gone wild with ideas of exploring current productions or teasing what’s to come in the future. While we won’t know until Saturday, it seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star, Will Pulter is teasing his attendance.

The actor is set to take on the role of Adam Warlock, who was briefly teased back in 2017 when the second entry hit theaters. While we don’t know exactly what role he’ll have in the film. In a recent interview, he teased his attendance at San Diego Comic-Con hinting at a reveal.

We finished filming a couple of months ago, and then I’m heading out to Comic-Con pretty soon.

    Will Poulter

The actor got to talk a bit about Guardians and how its unique humor, spearheaded by visionary James Gunn, was something that caught his eye. Gunn definitely has given the ragtag team of intergalactic adventures something that made them stand out from the rest of Marvel’s quirky characters. There’s something exciting about the third entry that stands out due to the circumstances that almost kept its director from finishing up the project.

Adam Warlock is a big character to introduce into the MCU, and it will be interesting to see if he may potentially tie into some overarching storyline that many have been hoping to finally uncover. While this saga has mostly been rebuilding the MCU for a new trilogy, people are still struggling with Post-Endgame blues. Perhaps SDCC has the piece of the puzzle we’ve been looking forward to.

  • ‘The Mandalorian’ Star Hints at Rick Famuyiwa Involved With Multiple Season 3 Episodes

‘The Mandalorian’ Star Hints at Rick Famuyiwa Involved With Multiple Season 3 Episodes

While there have been many discussions surrounding the Disney+ shows since they started rolling out more, The Mandalorian still stands tall as the one to start it all. With a third season on the horizon, we’re still waiting for any details on the project. Luckily, Carl Weathers has us covered as he revealed in an interview with Big Gold Belt Media that director Rick Famuyiwa was involved with multiple episodes of The Mandalorian‘s upcoming Season 3.

You got Rick [Famuyiwa] who’s here, who’s behind the camera, executive producing on our show, you know? Who directed me in a couple of episodes of The Mandalorian this season and I’m a huge fan.

    Carl Weathers

It’s always great to see when an actor is excited about a director’s work on a project. Mandalorian‘s monster-of-the-week approach has been a standout among the many Disney+ shows released that seemingly follow a more cinematic format. Weathers also confirming he’ll be involved with multiple episodes could be a hint that his character will have a multiple story arc throughout.

Of course, they could go a similar route to the second season, which saw various characters come together in the final episode to unite against a common threat. Famuiywa has been quite busy with his work on the Star Wars series, and here’s also hoping he’ll get a chance to potentially tackle another Disney project, maybe even something web-related.

  • New Report Hints at MCU’s X-Men Project ‘The Mutants’

New Report Hints at MCU’s X-Men Project ‘The Mutants’

Here’s a rather surprising little reveal but a new report by Deadline may have given away one of the upcoming Marvel projects. In the latest piece exploring what the San Diego Comic-Con may have in store for us, they reveal that we can expect a variety of sneak peeks, most notably of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Yet, the report also may have hinted at Marvel Studios’ first XMen-focused project.

They theorize that we might get some updates on films like Mahershala Ali’s film, which they seemingly title The Blade this time around, and next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The big reveal however is that they mention The Mutants, which was a title hinted at for the project quite some time ago back in March of 2021. Of course, it could also just be speculation that it’s heading our way but the name used adds a few questions in regards to what it might mean.

There’s still no real confirmation on what exactly we can expect from Marvel Studios’ take on the iconic mutants, especially with Ms. Marvel revealing that the franchise’s latest additions are also a member of it. So, it’ll b interesting to see if they make any announcements during SDCC, but likely could be keeping that surprise for D23 if it ends up true. Whatever may end up happening, we do know for sure that the X-Men and mutants are heading our way.

  • Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series Seen as Their Next ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series Seen as Their Next ‘Stranger Things’

Is this potentially the end of Netflix’s weird obsession with killing shows after only two seasons? In a new piece by Reuters, they reveal that Netflix is actively looking for its “Star Wars” as they want to do more than just pump out a number of series and films to stay relevant. In a new piece by Reuters, Netflix’s vice president, Matthew Thunell, has opened up on what their future goals are.

We want to have our version of ‘Star Wars’ or our version of ‘Harry Potter,’ and we’re working very hard to build that. But those are not built overnight

    Matthew Thunell

He’s crediting their recent success with Stranger Things, which has run for quite a few seasons and is about to get a spinoff. NOt only that, but the fact they are also able to market merchandise based on the project opens up new revenue streams. They currently have three projects that could grow into their next major franchises to continue carrying the studio moving forward.

Alongside The Three-Body Problem and a live-action adaptation of Avatar: Thee Last Airbender, they also have pointed out that the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece is among the potential with its build-in audiences. Thee Eiichiro Oda manga is just now entering its final saga after 25 years and has thee potential to become their longest recurring show if they truly aim to adapt the entire franchise.

Not only that, but there are some minor spinoff potentials with side characters that normally get their focus through cover stories. Plus, Luffy’s brother Portgas D. Ace got smaller fun side stories in manga form that could be explored. Plus, the series already has quite the merchandise market in Japan and it opens up the possibility to expand it internationally. If the first season, which so far has looked quite promising, truly pulls in an audience, it could become their next major franchise.

  • New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Concept Art Teases Alternative Powers Inspired by Video Games

New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Concept Art Teases Alternative Powers Inspired by Video Games

The new powers by Ms. Marvel were certainly something that had people up in arms ever since the first tease leaked long before the show ever aired on Disney+. Purple constructs have seemingly become a new part of her base ability that also lend themselves to further exploring their origins. Not only did they take a new direction with her origin, but it seems the powers went through quite a few variations.

Visual Development Supervisor Jackson Sze shared a look at what was one of the earlier designs for Ms. Marvel”s abilities that seems closer to a video game-inspired take. The way her powers leave an entire trail seems almost like they were going to take some inspiration from Super Mario or Sonic in how they manifest.

    https://twitter.com/JacksonSze/status/1549411402267238401

The visuals actually look great but it’s unclear what may have inspired their direction to give it a purple glow. They may have also wanted to save money to avoid having too many glowing constructs demanding a lot of on-screen presence. Ms. Marvel did offer a unique take on what it means to be a superhero and explored the relevance of history influencing people in the modern day.

There’s still no announcement for a second season, but here’s hope that they may have the interest to expand the project even as the show didn’t break any real records when it comes to its viewer base. However, the stronger focus on Gen Z viewers may have given them the possibility to expand the viewer base for future Marvel projects.

  • Russo Brothers Offer Their Thoughts on Current MCU Phase 4 Critique

Russo Brothers Offer Their Thoughts on Current MCU Phase 4 Critique

Marvel Studios and the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been under heavy critique. Not only did its recent releases face a lower CinemaScore than previous entries, but as they experiment and try out new things, people are feeling a bit aimless in where it’s all leading. Well, directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo, who had a hand in shaping some of the biggest entries of the MCU, offered their thoughts on the matter.

Anthony Russo highlighted some of the critiques that recent Marvel movies aren’t breaking records like previous entries, which stems from the belief that their success metric is reaching at least a billion, which is technically still an uncommon action for any other franchise or film. Well, Anthony Russo believes that Marvel simply had such a success that even a slight sophomore slump is being turned into the end of an era.

The overwhelming success of those movies has caused them to represent something that has become ‘other,’ or maybe not attainable to some others for whatever reason. Not every movie has to be liked globally.

    Anthony Russo

While his brother Joe Russo pulled in a comparison with his own relationship to the band U2. Especially highlighting how people tend to act towards any medium that reaches a certain point of popularity.

When I was 19, I used to love U2. And then they started getting some commercial success, beyond their MTV early days, where they were the biggest band in the world. And I was like, ‘I hate U2. I’m sick of U2. They’re so ubiquitous!’ That was just my ego trying to define myself against the masses. Then, 10 years later, I was like, ‘I fing love U2. Why did I do that?’ I outgrew it. It feels like a very juvenile conversation. The whole thing feels sad and cynical and pessimistic. You’re talking about movies that 10-year-olds are weeping over and begging to go see. They’ll remember for decades that they were there with their grandfather. Like, give me a fing break.

    Joe Russo

The medium has definitely reached young and old, especially for those that found a way into comics and film through these projects. While some will point at these films as expendable and forgotten, there are definitely people that are now locked in a nostalgia for the Infinity Saga, as they face a new future and direction. We’ll see if perhaps SDCC or D23 have what the MCU fans have been waiting for.

  • New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Concept Art Reveals Alternative Captain Marvel Cosplay

New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Concept Art Reveals Alternative Captain Marvel Cosplay

Ms. Marvel just recently came to an end and wrapped up the Disney+ series on a high note. What started off with some of the most memorable entries for Marvel Studios’ venture into long-form storytelling, introducing the world to one of its most culturally relevant. We even get a fun version of Kamala Khan’s time admiring Captain Marvel and see her cosplaying as the hero during Avenger Con.

Now, artist Karla Ortiz took to her Twitter page to share a new look at some alternative Captain Marvel cosplays that Kamala would’ve worn. Considering Brie Larson‘s hero wore a surprising amount of costumes throughout, it does seem like they played around with which color tone they’d might take with the character.

    https://twitter.com/kortizart/status/1549147433690546176

Here’s hoping we get some more concept art that teases how the original plan was for the series to develop. You never know what may have changed from the conceptual time mapping out the project to bring it to life. Ms. Marvel was also affected by COVID which likely led to quite a few changes happening as they mapped out their scripts but adapted to whatever was possible.

It’s still crazy to think that our first look at Ms. Marvel was during 2020’s Disney Investors Day before we even saw a single thing from Hawkeye. They likely had to adapt some aspects of the project and were adjusting to whatever the pandemic had heading their way. So, who knows just how much it may have changed, which is always an exciting prospect as well.
