Just recently, Marvel’s Avengers has released a brand new character in the form of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. Perfectly timed with the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, her addition offered those hoping to try out a slightly new character will offer exactly that. Now, it seems that this isn’t the only connection it’ll have with the Marvel release, as well-known Marvel’s Avengers leaker @mmmmmmmmiller has shared the first look on his Twitter account.
The armor in question getting added is sadly not Jane Foster’s but rather that of Thor. It looks like they’ve recreated the blue-gold armor that the God of Thunder will don at some point in the film. The latest Marvel Studios release will include a good variety of new costumes for the Thunderer. So, we’ll see what else may get added.
He’s also revealed a new skin that ties into the previous Taika Waititi release, Thor: Ragnarok. The skin is from earlier in the film that also includes a great little addition, as you’ll play Thor that is holding Surtur’s crown on his back.
These are some great additions to the game, especially for those that are big fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-ins. We’re still waiting for the next addition that lets you play some new missions, as it’s been a while since the release of the first Raid back in 2021. So, here’s hoping that the game is at a point where it rolls out more content once again and we’ll also see what other heroes may get added in the near future. For now, it seems we’ll hav ea few skins to tie us over.
Today in the strangest news ever. Howard Stern has seemingly hinted that he’s involved with a Marvel Studios project. He openly confirms it involves Doctor Doom. There’s no word what role he has exactly and if it is focused on Doom, or he’s simply involved in some capacity.
Holy shit Stern had a hot mic for their postshow meeting running and I think leaked he will be doing Dr. Doom in an MCU movie?!?? pic.twitter.com/fIzH1Z7KAJ
It’s curious to say the least and if they are filming this summer, perhaps it’s a hint that they’ll include the character in the form of a cameo. Perhaps Howard Stern will be filmed reporting on Latveria which will be our first reference of the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Perhaps they are starting work on the Fantastic Four film that’s still actively looking for a director. Besides the announced Thunderbolt film, this would be their second villain-focused project if it is a unique one. For now, we can speculate but it definitely is a curious one.
It looks like an icon will make their return in the second season of Chucky, as SyFy has announced that Lachlan Watson will take on the role of Glen/Glenda in the season. They are the genderfluid child of Chucky and Tiffany that made their debut in Seed of Chucky. While they were briefly referenced in the first season, this will mark their first return since 2004, when Billy Boyd voiced the Chucky offspring. Check out the special message from Watson on taking on the role:
This fall, Lachlan Watson gets to have double the fun 😏 Watch their announcement to see what we mean! #Chuckypic.twitter.com/XRYJnQ2p32
It’s unclear how they’ll make their return to the franchise, especially given where we last saw the character. They join an already stacked cast that already saw the return of Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly. The first season continued where Curse and Cult of Chucky left off, which set up a new direction for the murdering kid’s toy.
The series was pitched as a new take on the mythos and characters, especially after a remake was put in place that tried to reinvigorate the franchise on the silver screen, but just couldn’t bring the same kind of magic as the original. So, the series offered what everyone was hoping for and continued the franchise with the creative minds that made it an iconic part of everyone’s horror collection.
It looks like the Russo Bros. are focused on staying in Netflix’s wheelhouse as while they’re busy promoting The Gray Man, they’ve already set their next project in the form of The Electric State. Millie Bobby Brown, who is hot off of her work on the latest season of Stranger Things, is already set to join the film. Former Avengers co-star, Chris Pratt, is also currently in talks.
The directing duo will once again team up with writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who also worked on the previous Netflix film. It’ll once again be a high-budget project that is likely going to go beyond the 200M mark. Brown will play an orphaned teen that travels the American west to find out what happened to her younger brother. She’ll be accompanied by a mysterious robot and an eccentric driver. It’s unclear who Pratt may end up playing.
The project is an adaptation of the 2018 illustrated novel. Simon Stalenhag created the original and also worked on the iconic Tales From the Loop. It looks like they are also already eyeing a production start in October in Atlanta. So, we may get some casting announcements in the coming months as the project moves forward. Russo‘s are naturally producing under their AGBO banner.
Lucasfilm’s latest Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, saw the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in their iconic roles from the Prequel Trilogy. Many wondered how the series came together and what may have led to the project ending up on the Disney+ streaming service. It turns out that writer Stuart Beattie initially pitched the project as a film trilogy. Initially, he wrote the first of three films that would eventually be stretched out into the six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
I wrote the film that they based the show on. So, yeah. I spent like a year, year-and-a-half working on it. And then, when the decision was made not to make any more spin-off films after Solo came out, I left the project and went on to other things. Joby came on and took my scripts and turned it from two hours into six. So, I did not work with them at all, I just got credit for the episodes because it was all my stuff
Stuart Beattie
He goes on to highlight how he initially pitched the project to Lucasfilm, which would’ve been three stories that explore the different stages of his evolution into Ben Kenobi from the Original Trilogy, most notably how we meet him in A New Hope.
So when I pitched my Obi-Wan story to Lucasfilm, I said, ‘There’s actually three stories here. Because there’s three different evolutions that the character has to make in order to go from Obi-Wan to Ben.’ And the first one was the first movie, which was the show, which was, ‘Surrender to the will of the Force. Transport your will, surrender your will. Leave the kid alone.’ So then, the second [movie] was thinking about where Kenobi ends up.
Stuart Beattie
He also highlights that very transformation and wanting to explore that storyline of how he goes from the man we see in the Prequels into the role of sacrificing his life to let Luke Skywalker follow his own fate.
And one of the most powerful and probably the most powerful moment in all of Obi-Wan’s story is that moment where he sacrifices himself in A New Hope. Great moment, you know, makes you cry. But, if you stop and think about it, it’s a pretty sudden thing, to just kind of go be fighting a guy, to see Luke and go, ‘I’m gonna die.’ You know, that to me, that required forethought. That required pre-acceptance that this was going to happen.
Stuart Beattie
Hearing that an initial film idea was stretched out into the first six episodes doesn’t seem too surprising given the slower pace of the project. Obi-Wan Kenobi has strengths but there are moments where it felt like it was initially planned as a singular film that was broken down into three arcs with two episodes each. It was marketed as a limited series, which makes it curious that the initial pitch of a trilogy could’ve been made for at least three seasons. So, we’ll have to see if they backpedal on the idea after all.
There have been quite a few discussions surrounding why Thor: Love and Thunder moved away from Gorr the God Butcher’s iconic comic design. Many theorized that having Christian Bale involved with the project was one of the decisions, but the actor now offered some insight during the press tour on how they approached the design, most notably due to Bale‘s restrictions after wrapping up another project.
Yeah, I was coming off of a film where it had been necessary to be sort of rather lacking in muscle. And then I saw the images and thought: “Well, that’s not going to be possible. And this G-string that#s going on there.” He looked in the comic books like physically a, you know, someone to reckon with Thor. And I said: “Well, you know that’s just not going to be possible in the state I’m in.
Christian Bale
He goes on to highlight that he only had three days between productions, which is the result of COVID. We’ve seen with many productions that they had less prep time and with VFX houses slammed, it’s not easy for these productions to somehow get their projects out in a meaningful way; which Marvel Studios has found a balance to work with.
And so we said: “Alright, now we’ll go with the supernatural powers that he does have that he gets from the Necrosword etc, which I think works really effectively.
He also highlighted that the G-string was already decided not to be part of the film before Bale even sat down with director Taika Waititi. So, it seems that they’ve already decided on some aspects of the design before he joined, but also adapted to his thinner frame due to his previous project. It once again highlights how these productions are far more complicated and also have to adapt when they adapt talent, especially ones as big as Christian Bale.
It was back in October that the HBO series Succession was renewed for a fourth season. Not much was known about the upcoming new season, which continues to follow the Roy family, a group of dysfunctional entrepreneurs in the media and entertainment world. Brian Cox plays the role of Logan Roy and is joined by a stellar cast that includes Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, Jeremy Strong, and more.
Cox and Strong have been praised as the series went on to nab quite a few nominations, and it seems after quite a few months of waiting, production has finally started don the fourth season of Succession. The official Twitter account has shared a photo from the set, which sadly doesn’t include any of the cast but confirms that production has begun.
HBO has continued to offer a powerhouse of productions, even as it expanded into streaming with HBO Max. With a stellar cast, Succession was surely to draw in an audience and it’s great to see a successful series enter the fourth season as most streaming alternatives sadly barely make it past a second season. Each one ran for around ten episodes, with only the third ending on a ninth episode. So, showrunner Jesse Armstrong might stick to that format moving forward. The above image also confirms that Mark Mylod is back in the directing chair after working on last season’s finale.
It looks like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been a big release on Disney+ even while it’s still available in theaters. The film has been building up quite a bit over the last few weeks in cinemas, as it’s likely to end its run with at least $950M. While it isn’t a billion, it’s quite the jump from the previous entry and further proves that Marvel Studios has a hold at the box office. Now, they also released the film on Disney+ to grab a home audience and it looks like the film performed quite well.
According to a study by Samba TV, a third-party analytics company, the film pulled in 2.1M US households that watched the Doctor Strange sequel in its first 5 days of streaming. To put it in perspective, SambaTV reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Teen Rings pulled in around 1.7M viewers back in November. Eternals also pulled in a strong 2M which now puts Doctor Strange on top with 2.1M.
It needs to be pointed out that this value is only a temporary look and might not truly represent how these projects are truly performing. Still, from a third-party perspective, it does seem like the project is doing quite well. 2M viewership seems to be the core audience for Marvel films, which is a curious benchmark for future projects. These numbers could be quite a bit higher due to it relying on Samba TV’s household panels but it at least offers us a little glimpse of how our favorite projects are performing.
Amazon Prime Video has been building quite the rapport with Chris Pratt. Not only did he bring in quite the success during the pandemic with The Tomorrow War, but he’s now also working on a series adapting the novel by Jack Carr, The Terminal List. The series follows the story of James Reece, who after facing the loss of his entire Navy SEALs platoon starts to question his own memories and loses grip with reality as the story around him starts to unravel, which may endanger the ones he loves. Can the premise also deliver with this new series?
One thing is for sure, the base premise is quite a promising one. Especially in the first two episodes it starts to play with the viewer’s understanding of what is and isn’t true. Audio clips and flashbacks start to intertwine in ways that make you wonder what exactly is real or isn’t. Pratt sells the performance as Reece, and it does push you to question what exactly is going on. The dramatic turn of these earlier episodes also adds some weight and further solidifies the difficulty of discussing topics like posttraumatic stress disorder in combat veterans.
Yet, the series slowly devolves into a rather simplistic plot of vengeance with some political turmoil. There are some interesting ideas at play, but it does continue to throw in new characters and unravels the “bigger picture” at the expense of what was the initial personal drama that gave the series an amazing hook. It’s not bad mind you, but it does feel like a missed opportunity as its strongest moments still remain with elements from that core concept that help develop Reece as a character.
There’s a lot of gray in this series, and no person is truly good. Some are definitely more corrupt than others, but it does become a boiling point where if you can’t go with Reece’s vengeance, you may lose interest in the series as that’s the main driving force. Chris Pratt gives a great performance and it is always strange to see comedic actors take on some rather dark roles. In a way, this is Pratt‘s Breaking Bad in a way, as he tackles a complex and broken character. It simply hinges on if you are going to join his journey or not to truly invest in this eight-episode series.
There is a strong supporting cast here,e especially Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards who plays a vital role in supporting Reece throughout his journey. Though Constance Wu may be a personal standout in this series as journalist Katie Buranek alongside Jeanne Tripplehorn‘s Lorraine Hartley. Though, I can’t help but highlight the hilarious twist on casting Jai Courtney as a war-loving multi-billionaire CEO given his perchance of action roles. The way they play with his character was probably the one thing I least expected from the series and it worked in its favor.
The series is, at its core, a military conspiracy drama and works quite well as such. When they pull out their action sequences, they are great and you can see the influence of director Antoine Fuqua‘s experience with Training Day and Equalizer at play here. Though Ellen Kuras also offers some strong work here, especially echoing her work on projects like Ozark and The Umbrella Academy. Action is tight and purposefully dramatic when it needs to be, even if it does pull its inspirations from various military and gun-focused projects.
You can tell this was a passion project for Pratt, who also was an executive producer on the series. The series hits its stride when it comes to emotional moments, as Reece is pushed further and further throughout the story, especially as he starts to have a hard time connecting what is and isn’t real. And, as a personal taste in what could’ve been shouldn’t overshadow what the series is going for, it should be praised for what it delivers. There’s an interesting intrigue at play that caught me off-guard even by the end, as sometimes the camera would play with us on where certain characters stand.
There’s a middle section where the series seemingly takes a brief detour to introduce new characters that don’t have a stronger play into the overarching story. It was interesting as it added a new perspective on some characters, but it felt like the aspect of this story could’ve easily been tightened for the adaptation, as it pretty much feels like a brief detour in the middle of the story.
I repeatedly caught myself wondering if that was the end until realizing I was only halfway through the series. It does come at the expense of dragging at times and making me wonder if they may have had to pad out the eight-hour run, but it was still interesting to see how the series continues to just escalate. It also has something to say about PTSD and how strongly it affects soldiers. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture of the military; not even a little bit. It doesn’t indulge in the violence but adds a visceral aspect that forces you to keep watching.
For what the series is, The Terminal List pulls off what it’s trying to be. While I still wished it played a bit more with its audience, there’s something genuine at play here and it could’ve played a bit more morally grey on some character decisions. Yet, your enjoyment of the story strongly depends on how you feel about Pratt‘s character and his emotional journey throughout. There’s a strong supporting cast and while it has some moments where it could’ve tightened the plot, the series still has something to say that was worth telling.
One Piece is a major project worldwide and with 25 years on its back, the story is slowly nearing its end. Netflix has quickly jumped on board with Tomorrow Studio to find a talented cast and crew to bring the series to life in live-action. We’ve gotten a tease from the production sets that tease a massive project that has been filming since the beginning of the year. While we may have to wait a bit longer for more updates, it seems that one actor has wrapped production.
Actor McKinley Belcher shared at the end of May that he had joined the production of Netflix’s One Piece series. Yet, it turns out he may have already wrapped up his work on the project. Belcher took to his personal Instagram to share that he’s leaving Cape Town, seemingly confirming he’s finished his work as Arlong. So, it seems that he’s been working for around a month on bringing his sequences to life.
Some may be wondering how that works considering that we’ve recently got the tease they were working on the Baratie episodes, especially as Doctor Who director Emma Sullivan was confirmed working on them. Yet, they aren’t necessarily filming sequences from the manga back-to-back and may be working on various sequences simultaneously. It’s not uncommon especially as they have to work around actors’ tight schedules. Still, it’s geat to know that the production is coming along.
