  • REVIEW: ‘Crossing Swords’ Season 2 Fails to Capture the Uniqueness of Season 1

REVIEW: ‘Crossing Swords’ Season 2 Fails to Capture the Uniqueness of Season 1

The first season of Crossing Swords introduced audiences to an interesting new take on the raunchy adult animated series. Inspired by Robot Chicken, John Harvatine IV, and Tom Root took what they’d learned on the adult-oriented cartoon and applied it to this series, with an original project set in Medieval Times. The second season sees the return of Patrick the squire, still on his own personal quest to become a knight, and it’s when the show focuses on this plotline that it shines. Unfortunately, though, this season often feels astray and distracted when it decides to follow a linear path whenever it feels.

The show’s most defining feature is probably its cast, which features the likes of Nicholas HoultLuke EvansSeth Green, Alanna UbachTara StrongTony HaleTara Strong and Maya Erskine. The cast is truly at their best this season. In fact, some of them are unrecognizable and seem to have become lost in their roles. This is particularly true of Hoult, Evans and Erskine, who are the standouts once again. It wasn’t until the episodes concluded that I was able to comprehend the actors behind the voices.

I just wish the series used these characters to their full potential, with Patrick being the only character to get proper development in the series. This is where things begin to feel disjointed. Crossing Swords feels like it’s trying too hard to separate itself from another adult animated series by randomly deciding it wants to tell a linear story. The show quickly tries to wrap up the said story up and throw viewers right back onto an aimless path. The one-off episodes begin to lead up to a little story-arc, and this is where the show starts to get really interesting and felt like it wasn’t dragging for once, but it quickly wraps up the short burst of story development and throws you back into the outlandish nonsense that the series survives on.

The series will have its moments and, if there’s a line they won’t cross, they have yet to stumble across it. Some jokes hit as they’re supposed to, and the humor is there, unfortunately, though, it’s missing the heart that many other animated series like this have. Crossing Swords feels as if the gas tank was low, so you decided to fill up, but then realized there was a hole in your tank and you’ve lost all momentum. The series ultimately feels as if it’s coasting by on its vulgar humor, but the act gets old fast.

Crossing Swords often feels like a modge-podge between Robot Chicken and something Like Rick and Morty, and could truly be something special and unique, but it doesn’t feel committed enough. The cast and distinctive animation style are some of its saving graces, but without a solid story, it can feel about as alive as its old king.

Adil El Arbi Shares First ‘Batgirl’ Set Photo as Production Starts

The DC extended universe seems to finally be set on a consistent path project-wise. for a while there it seemed like films were just randomly getting announced but would never really come to fruition. Thankfully, it seems like things are finally in order, especially with the upcoming Batgirl project. It was another film that struggled to really get going early on, initially picking up Joss Whedon to write and direct, before Warner Bros. cut ties with the director. After a long wait, it has officially begun production.

Director Adil El Arbi shared an Instagram post from the set. We get a look at the office of Barbra Gordon, who has been revealed to be working as a cop, most likely for GCPD. The photo gives us a look at the current logo for the film as well as hints when it may be set. In the background there appears to be some decorative tinsel, possibly hinting at the film being set during the holiday season. It will certainly add a nice visual flair to this film’s version of Gotham.

Some speculation could hint at Barbra beginning the film working as a cop, but something happening, involving her father, leading her to follow her own path and become Batgirl. The film was written by Christina Hodson, who previously worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash. Adil El Arbi will direct the project alongside Bilall Fallah.

  • How ‘Masters of The Universe: Revelations’ Part 3 Could Introduce She-Ra

How ‘Masters of The Universe: Revelations’ Part 3 Could Introduce She-Ra

What was thought to be the final installment in the Revelations series has seemingly been flipped on its head, as the final moments unveiled the return of the leader of the Horde, Hordak. The Motherboard cult, which was teased in the first part, infects and mechanizes Skeletor to showcase the change in power moving forward. We don’t get his actual appearance in the series outside of a very familiar logo, but it does open up one question: are we going to see the arrival of She-Ra in the sequel?

It would certainly add some interesting drama for Princess Adora, better known as She-Ra and the twin sister of Prince Adam, to make a sudden return. She-Ra was kidnapped shortly after her birth by Hordak, who took her to the realm of Etheria and made her one of his underlings. Eventually, she would break free from his army to lead a group of rebels to fight the Horde to defeat him once and for all.

Many have become much more familiar with this story thanks to Netflix’s 2018 reboot of the series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The series was an extensive retelling of the character and reimagined for a modern-day audience. It brought back Adora alongside her extensive supporting cast that includes Catra, Glimmer, Bow, Catra, Entrapta, and, of course, Hordak. However, that series was confirmed as a standalone story and doesn’t rely on any pre-existing Masters of The Universe lore.

It’s very likely Kevin Smith and his creative team will add their own spin to the story and build upon the revelations of the latest entry of the series. We don’t know if She-Ra and Hordak are a known presence in this take on the classic franchise. So, perhaps Adora is the revelation that the title is hinting at, as she helps Adam and Teela against this new threat aiming to end Grayskull once and for all.

  • ‘Masters Of The Universe: Revelations Part 2’ Ending Explained

‘Masters Of The Universe: Revelations Part 2’ Ending Explained

Kevin Smith brought us back to the world of Eternia. Masters of the Universe: Revelation resurrected the childhoods of an entire generation in a modernized take on the iconic franchise. It was assumed that the series would serve as a two-part finale to the original, as it would explore the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. With the release of Part 2, Smith and his team may have found a way to catch us off guard and keep the door open for an additional part.

In the first part, we are introduced to a cult that follows the Motherboard and took over Snake Mountain after Skeletor’s dissapearance. The group rose to power following the loss of magic in Eternia through its tech-based sludge that upon ingestion would turn those who’ve consumed into weaponized cyborgs. They make their return in the final minutes of Part 2’s finale, as a bitter Skeletor attempts to destroy the Motherboard idol.

Yet, he ends up restrained by Trapjaw and Triklop, as the technological menace latches its wires into his body. As Skeletor is mechanized the idol projects a hologram revealing a familiar face to fans of the franchise. It signals the return of Hordak, leader of the Horde and Skeletons old master. He also was famous as the main antagonist in the spin-off series, She-Ra: Princess of Power, and continued that role in the 2018 remake.

The ending certainly hints at Revelations returning for a third part as Hordak may have set his sights on Castle Grayskull and the heroes that protect it. Skeletor was once a protégé of Horda, before eventually banishing him to the realm of Etheria so that he may begin his own conquest of Eternia. It’ll be interesting to see how the newly introduced Motherboard connects to his origin and what the future has in store for Skeletor as a minion of his former master.

  • ‘Doom Patrol’ Spinoff ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Recasts Main Cast

‘Doom Patrol’ Spinoff ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Recasts Main Cast

Doom Patrol is one of those rare situations where a spin-off is so good it manages to outshine its original in many ways. The series had become so popular that it went on to score a spin-off of its very own, focusing solely on the Dead Boy Detectives. The series introduced the characters this past season with Charles Rowland, Edwin Paine, and Crystal Palace making their live-action debuts. Before the season had even debuted the characters, they already got their own series but with a twist.

It’s being reported by Variety that the pilot has found its stars with George Rexstrew set to play Edwin Paine, Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland, and Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace. Alongside the main cast, Alexander Calvert will play Thomas The Cat King, Briana Cuoco as Jenny, Jenn Lyon as Esther, Yuyu Kitamura as Niko, and Ruth Connel. She’s the only actor reprising their role from Doom Patrol, where she was Night Nurse.

One of the most bizarre revelations in this news was the fact that HBO Max had already cast actors in these roles since they’d already appeared in Doom Patrol. But with this spin-off the producers decided to toss away everything and start new, now official recasting the roles. They were previously played by Sebastian Croft, Ty Tennant, and Madalyn Horcher.

The project is being written by Steve Yockey who will also serve as executive producer alongside Jeremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. The project has to receive a series order from HBO Max and is currently going to film the spinoffs title pilot.

Disney+ has only been active for a few years now and has already breathed new life into franchises that were believed to have been lost to time. One such franchise is the beloved Halloween film, Hocus Pocus. It has become a cult classic and must-watch for the month of October for many that grew up with it. The film follows three Witches who’ve been set free after a black candle is lit within their old home. The original stars of the 1993 Halloween film are set to return in a sequel to the original which will stream exclusively on Disney+.

  • BREAKING: Natasha Liu Bordizzo Cast as Sabine Wren in ‘Ahsoka’

BREAKING: Natasha Liu Bordizzo Cast as Sabine Wren in ‘Ahsoka’

The live-action debut of Ahsoka Tano was unanimously loved by fans of the character, who made her debut in The Clone Wars animated series. She quickly gained popularity as Anakin’s Jedi apprentice. Fans are eager to see her return in her live-action solo series, but just as excited for the debut of Sabine Wren, a character who has been rumored for the series for quite a while now. Deadline is reporting that actress Natasha Liu Bordizza has joined the cast of Ahsoka as the Mandalorian. She will star opposite Rosario Dawson who plays the titular character.

At the very end of Star Wars: Rebels we saw an older Ahsoka Tano meet up with Sabine Wren. Yet, once we see her again in The Mandalorian she was by herself. It seems the series will indeed follow Ahsoka and Sabine as they travel the galaxy searching for Ezra Bridger whose believed to be held hostage by Grand Admiral Thrawn. This was set up via Ahsokas time on Corvus, where she met Din Djarin and the two teamed up to take down the Magistrate.

Ahsoka is definitely one of the most anticipated projects coming to Disney+ as the character finally gets her own well-deserved series. The series is set to star Dawnson and Bordizza alongside Hayden Christensen, once again reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker. The series is also rumored to feature Mena Massoud as Ezra Bridger, another character making their live-action debut. Ahsoka is currently set to start filming next year around March.

  • Delroy Lindo in Talks to Join Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’

Delroy Lindo in Talks to Join Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’

Fans are eager to see the live-action return and debut of Eric Brooks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Mahershala Ali set to star as the titular vampire hunter. Not much is known about the project but Blade already seems to be making moves on and off-screen in the MCU. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that actor Delroy Lindo is in final negotiations to join the cast of Blade. It’s currently unknown just who he would play as that is still under wraps along with plot details. The project is currently being reported to be starting production late into the summer of 2022. Lindo is best known for his work in films like Da 5 Bloods, Gone in 60 Seconds, Malcolm X, and most recently The Harder They Fall.

As it’s currently unknown who he would be playing, Lindo would fit pretty well as Jamal Afari. In the comics, he was Blades’ mentor who found and raised Eric since he was nine years old after he was saved from vampires. Blade would learn everything he knows in hunting vampires from the man, who was once one of the greatest hunters. He even famously faced the toughest of vampires, Dracula. The character recently made his entrance into the MCU via the post-credit scene in Eternals. While you don’t see the man himself, we hear him speak to Dane Whitman just as he’s about to pick up the Ebony Blade, asking if he was sure he was ready for that. It’ll be interesting to see if Dane pops up in Blade as well, but Lindo is quite the addition to this project.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Batman’ Eyeing a Similar Runtime to ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

RUMOR: ‘The Batman’ Eyeing a Similar Runtime to ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

It’s been a long road for Batman fans, as the project has hit multiple delays due the ongoing pandemic that’s made it difficult for Hollywood to keep their machine running. The project has seen three delays but seems to finally have found its footing with the current release date of March 4th, 2022. As it is nearing, director Matt Reeves is adding the finishing touches. So, they’ve reached the next step and it looks like the potential runtime may have found its way online.

The Batman reportedly had a new screen test in which fans were treated to the most recent cut of the film, and while things are definitely susceptible to change, it seems the current runtime will surely excite fans. The reported runtime of the film is currently around two hours and forty-five minutes, making it one of the longest Batman films alongside The Dark Knight Rises. With test screenings anything can change with quite a few more months ahead. The rumored runtime comes from @ViewerAnon.

    https://twitter.com/ViewerAnon/status/1461223963074252803?s=20

If the film sticks with the nearly three hour runtime, than it would make it longer than The Dark Knight‘s 2 hours and 32 minutes, but closer to The Dark Knight Rises‘ 2 hours and 45 minutes. The film could be very different from previous adaptions of the character, with directed Matt Reeves more interested in tackling the detective side of Batman. The film will see Batman up against Gotham’s criminal underworld as the Riddler tears through the city to uproot and expose its corruption. If this runtime says anything it’s that we’re going to be seeing Batman truly digging deep and actually acting as “The Worlds Greatest Detective”.

  • New Details on HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Series

New Details on HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Series

Over a year ago it was announced that JJ Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, had closed a deal with Warner Bros to develop series and films based on the Justice League Dark characters from DC Comics. The projects have begun to pick up talent move along at a moderate pace but it seems things could be kicking much sooner than we thought. Since the announcement projects like Zatanna, Madame X, a Justice League Dark series, and now Constantine will make his return to the small screen.

RPKNews recently shared some information on the ongoing development of the series and that casting is currently searching for its lead. They’ve revealed the series is also currently titled ‘Justice League Dark: Constantine’ and that they are currently searching for a Black, British man in the 25-29-year-old range to portray John Constantine in this upcoming series. Production on the project is currently set to begin in quarter 2 of 2022.

HBO Max and Bad Robot are looking to give Constantine a new angle in this series from what previous adaptions had. Both the film starring Keanu Reeves and the series starring Matt Ryan heavily focused on the religious aspect of the character. This time around they’re looking to explore the horror aspect of the character’s comic book roots and really separate this adaption from the past.

Justice League Dark: Constantine will be written by Guy Bolton and produced by Bad Robot. No further details on the project have been revealed but we can hopefully expect some casting very soon.
