  • Matt Damon Lands in Australia to Join ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Matt Damon Lands in Australia to Join ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Here’s an interesting surprise. It seems that while everyone was getting ready for the production of Thor: Love and Thunder, Matt Damon was also sighted alongside his family in Sidney. According to news.com.au, he arrived there for the mandatory quarantine before joining the production. This isn’t the first time he appeared in a Marvel Studios or Thor film. He had a brief sequence in Thor: Ragnarok, where he played the role of Loki reenacting The Dark World‘s death sequence. As noted by the source, it is rather unlikely he’d fly all the way to Australia and go through quarantine for just a brief cameo, so he may have a larger role in the film. There is no official word on it, so we can probably assume that it may just be director Taika Waititi who wanted to continue his running joke. Perhaps we will also see the return of Sam Neill, who played Odin in the previously-mentioned play.

The site also offers some interesting teases of the film’s upcoming production. It is currently set to invest $178 million in the local economy. As a result, it will create 2,500 jobs and work alongside 1,650 Australian businesses. They got a location incentive of $24,1 million from the Australian government. The budgets behind films are high but they play a key role in many economies, as they reinvest that money into local businesses and offer new job opportunities. They also mention that other actors are in Australia for different productions, most notably Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. Elba is especially noteworthy after his character passed away in Avengers: Infinity War. There is still a chance he may have a cameo of some kind, maybe helping Thor through the challenge that faces him.

  • ‘Spider-Man 3’ Set Photos Tease Mysterio’s Effect on NYC

‘Spider-Man 3’ Set Photos Tease Mysterio’s Effect on NYC

Right now, WandaVision is on everyone’s radar, but Marvel Studios has been working hard on prepping their future projects. Some time ago, we covered set photos from the upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series, which finally confirmed Hailee Steinfeld‘s casting as Kate Bishop. There hasn’t been much circulating since, but luckily it seems that Spider-Man 3 has taken to the streets to film a sequence between Tom Holland‘s Peter and Zendaya‘s MJ. As we cannot share those photos here, you can check them out by clicking this link.

That isn’t all, as we also got one more set video that confirms an old foe still left his presence known after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. @atlanta_filming shared a video of a local newsstand that includes various small details. Of course, there are two posters that really stick out. There is the return of Mysterio through an “I Believe” poster alongside another one that states “Citizens to Defend Spider-Man”. So, it looks like New York City will be very divisive on the truth surrounding the accusations of Spidey being a killer or not. Mysterio may have died at the end of the last film, but his presence will haunt Spidey throughout the threequel.

I love these details on set and am curious if the camera will linger on it once the film finishes production. The newsstand also includes other references, such as a “We Remember” poster that pays tribute to those that got dusted from the Snap. The missing posters are also rather curious, which reminds me of Kraven’s Last Hunt. The story mainly focused on Kraven and Spidey, but it also included the cannibal villain Vermin. Hopefully, the film doesn’t take this dark angle. The set photos with Peter walking through the streets is also quite curious, as it would imply that the accusations may have gotten lifted at that time. He also seems to be on bad terms with MJ, so it could be him trying to make it up to her. We’ll see if we get some casting in the weeks, as more cast members join the production. It would be good to get some official news amongst all the rumors going around.

  • UPDATE: Michael Giacchino Debunks ‘Secret Invasion’ Rumors

UPDATE: Michael Giacchino Debunks ‘Secret Invasion’ Rumors

UPDATE: It seems that Michael Giacchino got wind of the story by DisInsider and debunked it directly. He responded to a tweet reporting on the story and pointed out that it isn’t true. It doesn’t rule out the possibility he may join later down the line, but for now it seems to be debunked.

Disney+ is going to be Marvel Studios’ big new entry point. They just started with WandaVision and have plenty of various shows already in some form of production. There were quite a few announcements, such as a Don Cheadle-led Armor Wars series and, most notably, an event mini-series adapting the Secret Invasion storyline. So far, they’ve only confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will return. We know from the post-credit sequence from Spider-Man: Far From Home that Fury has been leading a group of Skrulls in space. Meanwhile, Mendelsohn‘s Talos remained on Earth with his wife while impersonating Nick Fury. So, this will act as a direct follow-up to the storyline that got teased at the end of that film.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did reveal that the storyline will stick to the original’s focus on paranoia. It looks like they might have already found the perfect composer to add just the right music that will probably drive us insane, as we question who one can trust. According to DisInsider, Marvel Studios has already tapped Michael Giacchino to compose the Disney+ mini-series’ score. It isn’t the first time for the director, as he also worked on both MCU Spider-man movies and will compose Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Giacchino worked on many projects over the years, such as the Jurassic World films, Rogue OneStar Trek BeyondCoco, and so many more. He is also currently working on the score for Matt Reeves‘ The Batman film. Now, I do believe he is the perfect choice for Secret Invasion. His work on the series Lost was a huge selling point for the series, as the score is still stuck in my head since the show ended. I could see him echo some elements from that score, as we will face a wide variety of twists.

  • Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Teases Loot 2.0 and MCU Skins

Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Teases Loot 2.0 and MCU Skins

Finally, we have entered a new year for Marvel’s Avengers, and Crystal Dynamics returned with a new developer stream. We are still waiting for some information on future updates. Sadly, I wasn’t able to participate this time. Luckily, the community always has an eye on any update. As such, I am very grateful to @SonicPhoto for keeping notes and @PlayAvenger live-tweeting the event. So, without further ado, let’s jump into the latest and minor updates for the game as we kick-off the new year:

    • They currently have no news to share on Clint Barton. We will only get this information via official channels once they have a War Table planned.
    • The roadmap is still in development. It seems CD is currently working on finding the dates, as they want to add some solid information to it.
    • New content is being worked on while they are going through their backlog. The devs want to include it in the roadmaps.

    • New Game+, or the Campaign Replay, is currently in QA.
    • The reason for the AIM Cloning Labs delay is due to multiplayer crashes. It seems they are also looking into a join-in-progress feature.
    • Captain America’s traversal is also getting looked into, but there are higher priorities.
    • Loot 2.0 got highlighted in the stream. CD is adding quality-of-life features, gear will be more meaningful, and it’ll be easier for players to choose the right one. So, we can expect more functionality, and they want to make us excited about it. They did say it will still take some time.

    • MCU skins are heavily being looked into, but there is a lot of red tapes involved.
    • Super Adaptoid multiplayer mission is in bug fixing and will likely drop before the Cloning Labs do.

Overall, it sounds like a lot of the backlog has been holding the game back. Still, it looks like the end is in sight, so we’ll see how it will develop, especially now that the holidays have ended. The roadmap already setting dates is motivating, as it means they can potentially map out the upcoming months. I believe it would be good to have vague release windows with content information, but Crystal Dynamics probably has their reason for this approach. They did use the chance to introduce a new member of their Community Management, Leyla. It looks like we’ll see more new faces in future streams. So, we have something to look forward to as we await the next big reveal for the game.

  • Ethan Hawke Joins ‘MOON KNIGHT’ as Its Big Bad

Ethan Hawke Joins ‘MOON KNIGHT’ as Its Big Bad

With a March start of production just around the corner, Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Moon Knight is beginning to fill out its cast. Just the other day May Calamawy joined the cast as the female lead and now today, a trade report claims that Ethan Hawke has jumped on board as the antagonist opposite Oscar Isaac.

Ethan Hawke Sticks Up For Texas, Reps Beto and Turns a Dead Country Singer Into a Legend: Hanging With a Movie Star in Houston Who Just Wants to go to an Astros

Hawke’s role is being kept under wraps (as is pretty much everything about Moon Knight at the moment) and even though Marc Spector’s rogues’ gallery isnt’ quite as extensive as Spider-Man’s, there are still several intriguing possibilities. The 50-year old Hawke has been nominated for 4 Academy Awards and has the range to play anyone from Spector’s crazy brother Randall, to Count Nefaria, to a lead member of the Committee to the Lord of Vampires (early rumors indicate that this series would lean HEAVY into the supernatural and include characters such as Dracula and Jack Russell).

Moon Knight is set to film this Spring and should stream on Disney Plus sometime in early 2022.

  • Feige teases Nova for the MCU

Feige teases Nova for the MCU

This week marks the official return for Marvel Studios and the beginning of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That means that the Marvel press machine has been nonstop pushing out articles, interviews and questions for what’s ahead.

This time, the good people over at Comicbook.com had the president of Marvel Studios; Kevin Feige, over for an interview in the premiere episode of their new podcast, Phase Zero. They talked about a number of things, but of course, being the Nova fan that he is (who wouldn’t be really?), Brandon Davis asked Mr. Feige about Nova’s future involvement in the MCU, since he has been teased for quite a while now.

In regards to whether Nova would be a film or a Disney+ series, and which one would take the mantle (Sam Alexander or Richard Rider), Feige only responded with a “yes and yes” answer.

In a 2018 interview with Davis, Feige mentioned that the character had “immediate potential”, something he clarified a bit more during their recent chat:

Timing is relative, right? I think I’d been talking about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out. So, ‘immediate potential’ is relative. But clearly, we are not shying away from the cosmic end of storytelling right in the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova himself.

Of course, what does this all mean for Nova? Does this mean Nova is getting both a film and a series? And does it mean that we’re getting both iterations of Nova, with Richard Rider’s Nova already existing within the MCU and Sam Alexander rising up to also take up the mantle and serve under his tutelage? Only time will tell when Marvel Studios takes a deep dive into the cosmic side of the MCU.

  • Charlie Cox Reportedly Already Shot his Spider-Man 3 Scenes

Charlie Cox Reportedly Already Shot his Spider-Man 3 Scenes

In the first episode of his new podcast, Phase Zero, comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis revealed his belief that Charlie Cox has already filmed his scenes for the currently untitled Spider-Man sequel. News of Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock and/or Daredevil was first revealed last month by our own Charles Villanueva. The film, which Kevin Feige has said will be part of a sort of Multiverse arc that begins with WandaVision, is rumored to see the return of pretty much everyone that’s ever had anything to do with a Spider-Man project. Fans firmly believe that Cox’s Matt Murdock will serve as the lawyer to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker who will be on the run following the events at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

    MCU | Adversion

During the recent WandaVision press junkets, Collider’s Steve Weintraub asked Kevin Feige about Cox’s potential return and while Feige would not confirm it, he did indicate that he Charlie Cox and other actors and characters from prior Marvel TV projects are all fair game to reappear in the MCU’s future slate. Davis’ report corroborates our Lizzie Hill’s belief that Cox was on set during a November Spidey shoot.

Spider-Man 3 is currently set to swing into theaters this December.

  • RUMOR: Gwendoline Christie Cast in Netflix’s ‘Sandman’

RUMOR: Gwendoline Christie Cast in Netflix’s ‘Sandman’

Announced back in 2019, Sandman is an adaption of the popular Vertigo comic book that tells the tale of Morpheus, also known as Dream or The Sandman, and his brothers and sisters. The project was dealt a hefty delay this year due to the ongoing pandemic but has indeed begun shooting, as confirmed by Neil Gaiman himself. While production steadily moves along, the cast for the series has yet to even be announced, with confirmation only on Tom Sturridge, who’s set to play Morpheus. The series may have added a friendly face to its roster, with recent news suggesting a past Gaiman collaborator may have joined the project.

Game of Thrones Emmy nominee Gwendoline Christie offers a lesson in advocating for yourself — Quartz at Work

A recent report suggests that Game of Thrones and former Stormtrooper captain, Gwendoline Christie, has joined the project. Although we don’t know who she is officially set to play, it’s almost certain she would be playing a member of the Endless, specifically Desire, the third youngest sibling of the child of Night and Time. Desire is exactly what her name entails: an exact personification of Desire itself. Each of her other siblings are embodiments of powerful and natural forces in all living things.

Sandman currently has no set release date but is currently in production at Netflix. The project was written by Allan Heinberg, who will also serve as showrunner for the first season’s 11-episode run, with David S. Goyer and Neil Gaiman serving as executive producers on the series.

  • MORTAL KOMBAT: First Look and Details Revealed

MORTAL KOMBAT: First Look and Details Revealed

Entertainment Weekly has finally unveiled a first look at the upcoming Mortal Kombat film slated to air on HBO Max and theaters this April. The film is set to introduce a brand new protagonist by the name of Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, alongside all the iconic characters we’ve come to know and love.  Check out the first images below!

The report gives us a glimpse of the film’s premise; Cole Young is a washed-up MMA fighter who has an unusual birthmark on his chest that puts him on Shang Tsung’s radar. From there, he squares off with Sub Zero and meets Jax and the rest of the protagonists of the game. Raiden, who will finally be portrayed by an Asian actor, leads Cole to a sanctuary of warriors bearing the same mark. In the sanctuary, Cole begins his training to partake in a tournament to defend Earthrealm from outside invaders.

It’s all silly, really, and very par for the course for the Mortal Kombat lore. It doesn’t make it any less exciting, however. Seeing them nail the casting, in particular the characters of Asian descent, is pretty amazing. Getting Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada to play the most iconic characters of the game, Sub-Zero and Scorpion respectively is absolutely brilliant. I’m very mixed on them introducing a brand new character when there’s no shortage of great characters in the MK lore. I’m hoping they subvert that by having this Cole Young be actually someone from the game in a twist. Jax’s arms look sick while Kano’s design looks so muted. Judging the images solely for how they look, it does kind of resemble some Syfy shows.

All that said, this movie is still a must-see for me simply because I’m a huge fan of the games.

  • ‘WandaVision’ Featurette May Tease a Potential Wonder Man Appearance

‘WandaVision’ Featurette May Tease a Potential Wonder Man Appearance

WandaVision has finally released after a long wait. The first two episodes are filled to the brim with easter eggs and references to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a last little promotion, Marvel Studios also released a small featurette that gives us a good look at what happened behind-the-scenes. We get a first look at the production with a live studio audience. It also features interviews with various members of the production team including the show’s head writer Jac Schaeffer. Eagle-eyed viewers may notice an interesting image on the wall to her left.

Yes, the image on the right is that of Wonder Man. Simon Williams has been a character I wanted to see introduced in the MCU for a long time, yet I am surprised to see him in this featurette. It would hint at him potentially making an appearance in this show. There is a reason to introduce the actor in this show, as he originally was the template for Vision in the comics. To be more precise, his brain pattern was the basis for Vision’s personality. JARVIS ended up taking on that role in the MCU, but that doesn’t exclude this storyline getting revisited in live-action.

The character almost appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as a small cameo. There were posters prepared with Nathan Fillion in the role, where he was already a well-established actor. It is uncertain if they are using this chance to revamp the character. In the animated show, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Williams was a scientist who was infused with ion powers by AIM. The MCU may stray from his actor background and introduce him as someone who works for SWORD. They can take any angle, even if I would prefer him as an actor that shows up in the commercials that appear throughout the show. He would also be a perfect addition to the Disney+ line-up to explore film productions creatively.
