    RUMOR: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Spin-Off ‘Monarch’ In Development at HBO-Max

    After numerous delays, we finally got the first official poster for Godzilla vs. Kong. It has been a long wait after many delays, but we will finally get the simultaneous release on HBO Max and in theaters in March. For a while, there was nothing but radio silence on the project. Every once in a while, the director, Adam Wingard, would tease developments on the project. Now, the big question on everyone’s mind was what the future would hold for the Monsterverse franchise.

    According to FandomWire, HBO Max is planning a Monsterverse spin-off. It will focus on the covert organization Monarch, which got first introduced in 2014’s Godzilla. 2017’s Kong: Skull Island offered a more clear backstory on their purpose within this cinematic universe. They were researching the various monsters that once ruled the planet. They returned in 2019’s Godzilla: King of Monsters, explaining the history of Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. The concept would make for a great series. It would allow Warner Bros. and Legendary to explore titans that wouldn’t get a film. There is also a chance they might tease future storylines for their films.

    Godzilla vs. Kong will release in theaters on March 26th. It will be available on HBO Max for a limited time. Adam Wingard directed the film that features an all-star staff, which includes Eiza Gonzalez, Millie Bobby Brown, Brian Tyree Henry, Danai Gurira, Kyle Chandler, Alexander Skarsgård. We will finally get the first official trailer for the film this Sunday, so we’ll finally get a good look at the clash of a century. The films have been building up to this moment, so we’ll see who will be the final titan standing.

    First Official ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Poster Teases Upcoming Trailer

    Warner Bros. has been quite busy reshuffling their 2021 line-up. Ever since they announced the new strategy to release their films simultaneously in theaters and HBO Max, we’ve been anxiously waiting for any promotional material for the projects. Mortal Kombat most notably was supposed to air in January, but never got a trailer or even poster reveal. It got postponed and suddenly they’ve decided to release Godzilla vs. Kong in March. We had no trailer or any marketing for the film, so it was a curious decision. Luckily, it seems the wait isn’t going to last much longer, as Warner Bros. officially revealed a brand new poster alongside the caption that the first trailer will release Sunday.

    Godzilla: King of Monsters had some of my favorite poster designs and it looks like the franchise is continuing that trend. We don’t need to see all of Godzilla to recognize the image presented before us. I love the way Kong’s red and Godzilla’s blue are clashing here. It’s these kinds of visual flourishes that really make these posters stand out. Warner Bros. also made the right decision to avoid the cliché of having both just stare at each other like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Captain America: Civil War did with its poster design. There is some great attention to detail and the Monstersverse at play here. I am really excited for the trailer, as we finally get to see these two titans clash. The last time they faced off was back in 1962. We are around two months away until the film finally releases, so there will be plenty more posters heading our way in the near future.

    Scoop: Marvel Studios Throws a “Changeup”

    Identifying and tracking the projects Marvel Studios has “on deck” is one of our favorite things to do at Murphy’s Multiverse. Over the last 5 months, this has led us to the discovery of 6 new production companies. Beginning with Solve Everything and Grass-Fed, continuing to Arlyn Murphy’s discovery of Blueberry Waffles, Standoffish and Log Jam and identifying Frequent Productions the day of Disney’s Investor Day presentation. All 6 of these production companies have since been confirmed to be Marvel Studios productions so we recently had some fun trying to match them up with known upcoming projects; however, we might have to throw most of that out the window as it turns out we have to add another one to the mix: Changeup Productions.

    Just identifying a 7th production company was enough to put a hitch in any efforts to match them up, but that process was further complicated the fact that the creation of Changeup predates Blueberry Waffles, Log Jam and Standoffish by a month and the creation of Frequent by two months. While it’s not a sure thing, it likely indicates that whatever project Changeup is will be filming sooner than those other 4. With that in mind and knowing that Marvel Studios is looking to get filming on Secret Invasion going before mid-year, the Nicky Fury-centric series seems the most likely fit.

    Regardless of which project Changeup turns out to be, it leaves us with one more production company than known projects meaning that Kevin Feige didn’t play all his cards at Disney Investor Day and there’s another project which is likely to begin filming in either 2021 or early 2022.  Deadpool 3, Ghost Rider, Illuminati, Nomad (still not sure exactly what it is but it could be the vehicle for Chris Evans’ return to the MCU) Nova, Secret Warriors or Young Avengers are leading candidates for whichever production company ends up unmatched now, but for the moment, we’re still trying to put a puzzle together without all the pieces. As always, we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

    ‘Andor’: Alan Tudyk Reveals No Current Plans for K-2SO Appearance

    We haven’t heard much from the upcoming Star Wars series since the announcements during Disney’s Investors Day. Among the many series, we finally got an official title for the Rogue One spin-off that would focus on Cassian Andor. Diego Luna was set to return, but there was no real word if Cassian’s robot side-kick would also join him on this new adventure. Alan Tudyk voiced the former Empire droid, who was quite a fan-favorite mostly due to his sarcastic comments. Well, it sadly looks like the silence surrounding his inclusion had a good reason for it. In an interview with Collider for the upcoming Resident Alien, he revealed that he was not involved in the upcoming series:

    They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there

    It is sad we won’t get to spend more time with K-2SO. Hopefully, there is a chance the series might get some additional seasons to explore how they first met. We did get their initial meeting in an official prequel comic to the film, so it may be a reason why it won’t be the focus in Andor. This revelation is actually quite a surprise as shortly after the show’s initial announcement he was heavily involved in promoting it. So, his exclusion and the way Tudyk answered might hint that they are planning on mapping out multiple seasons. Interestingly enough, the droid made an appearance outside of the Rogue One film, as he was a returning enemy in Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. So, there is also the chance that K-2SO could appear in other Star Wars-related media, such as The Mandalorian. His blueprints may have been used to build the Dark Troopers, who made their live-action debut last season. For now, we can only hope that he

    ‘She-Hulk’ Adds Ginger Gonzaga in a Major Supporting Role

    The upcoming She-Hulk series is one of the most anticipated projects coming to Disney+. Many fans are ecstatic to see Jennifer Walters make her live-action debut. It wasn’t until Disney’s Investors Day that Tatianna Maslany got confirmed as the Gamma-powered lawyer. The show will be Marvel’s first attempt at a half-hour courtroom comedy. So far, we only know that Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and Tim Roth‘s Abomination will reprise their roles in the series. Luckily, Deadline revealed that a supporting role got cast.

    Ginger Gonzaga joins the production in the role of Walter’s currently unnamed best friend. Deadline doesn’t offer much info on what role she is playing specifically. She has worked on several comedy shows, such as Jim Carrey‘s Kidding, Mixology, and The Morning After. Gonzaga may be playing Jill Stevens, who briefly appeared in Savage She-Hulk #2. In the comics, she was Jennifer Walters’s best friend since childhood. Illuminerdi also reported they are looking into casting a character that fits the description of Angie Huang. She was Jennifer’s assistant in the comics. They may have combined both of these characters into one.

    She-Hulk will reportedly begin filming its ten-episode count in the next few months. Currently, it seems likely it will release on the Disney+ streaming service sometime next year. The series tapped Rick and Morty writer Jessica Gao with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing the episodes. Illuminerdi also reported they are looking into casting Augustus Pugliese and Titiana, so we might get some news on their casting as we near the production start.

    RUMOR: Sony Developing a Spider-Man Spin-Off Based on Dusk

    Marvel Studios has been quite successful in adapting the various characters from their 80+ years of history. Their success has ignited many others to try and copy their approach. Most notably, Sony has been desperately trying to make a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe happen. It has seen some crazy ideas being spun around, such as an Aunt May spy-thriller. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was originally going to be a launchpad for various characters, such as a Sinister Six spin-off. After the film’s sub-par Box Office, they turned to Marvel Studios and announced that future installments of the web-head would be co-produced. Of course, that didn’t stop Sony from continuing their connected universe plan, which got a new start in 2018’s Venom. Since they’ve announced a sequel with Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the postponed Morbius, and a Spider-Woman film that is still in pre-production.

    Well, it looks like we can throw one more hat into the ring, as Illuminerdi reported that they are also planning on a film focused on Dusk. If you are wondering who that might be, you are not the only one. The character of Dusk was someone from the Negative Zone. He fought the tyrannical Blastaar alongside a group of rebels before meeting Spider-Man. However, shortly after he arrived the man holding the title died and he ended up wearing it. Later on, Cassie St. Commons would take on the mantel in 1998. It would be very likely they are going to combine the Negative Zone storyline with Commons. Currently, there is no talent attached to the project, so it might just be an idea that gets left on the drawing board.

    ‘Marvel’s Behind the Mask’ Documentary Heading to Disney+

    Marvel has just announced that a brand new documentary is heading to Disney+ exclusively on February 12th. Marvel’s Behind the Mask will focus on the secret identities rather than the costumed vigilantes. It will feature writers and artists from Marvel’s history who have worked on characters, such as Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, and many more. It will be a feature film directed by Michael Jacobs and got produced by Marvel New Media. The documentary aims to explore the topic of equal rights in a world filled with heroes and villains alike while exploring the impact of these characters on pop culture and media.

    This is the second documentary produced by Marvel for the streaming platform. Most notably, they released a series of documentaries titled Marvel 616 just a few months ago. It explored a variety of topics, such as the original Japanese Spider-Man series, the woman of Marvel’s history, and the fan’s dedication to the series. So, Behind the Mask seems like a perfect addition to Disney+. It gives Marvel a chance to explore the many facets of their history.

    I am quite curious how they approach this story. Exploring the secret identities is a great idea. It is insane to think that the brand has 80+ years of history on its back, so they certainly have many different corners they can explore. The mentioning of their adaptation into media may also tease that we could get some new footage for Ms. Marvel as she will be making her debut later in the year. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long until the film debuts on the streaming service, as it will stream on February 12th.

    ‘Titans’: Savannah Welch Cast as Barbara Gordon

    Titans is among the many shows that were hit by the pandemic. The production got slated to begin in early 2020, but it got delayed until October of last year. Even with the delay, we still received some news about the show’s upcoming third season during DC FanDome. The team behind the series revealed that fan-favorites such as Scarecrow and Barbra Gordon would be coming to the show’s upcoming third season in a supporting role. We haven’t received any information since, so it has been a long wait. Luckily, that changes today, as Variety reveals that Titans has found its Barbara Gordon.

    Savannah Welch was cast in the role. Some might remember her from History Channel’s Six, Tree of Life, and Boyhood. According to Variety, Barbara has taken over as GCPD Commissioner. She once was active as Batgirl until the Joker shot her. After the events, Barbara survived but ended up paralyzed in a wheelchair ever since. Upon the Titans return to Gotham City, she and Dick Grayson will spark up a long-gone romance. It also leads to them developing a new kind of crime-fighting partnership that will define the upcoming season.

    Interestingly, there is no mention of her time as Oracle. She may take on this role later in the season, which may be why her description teases their new crime-fighting partnership. The addition of Barbara Gordon is also an essential step forward for inclusivity in TV and cinema. Welch is an amputee, as she lost her leg after an accident in 2016. So, it’ll be interesting to see how they handle this story. She is joining Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Curran Walters, Teagan Croft, and Ryan Potter as the series moves to HBO Max.

    Official Trailer Released for Disney+ Mini-Series ‘Pixar Popcorn’

    Pixar’s latest film Soul was a huge success for the company. It was a critical darling and even managed to add 2.3 million installations for Disney+. Now, they are getting ready for their next project, as they just released a trailer for Pixar Popcorn. It is a brand new collection of mini-shorts that feature characters from their various films. So, unlike their Sparkshorts, these take place within the individual films. It seems the stories will revisit some of our favorite characters no matter what small of a role they had in the original. It is great that even their latest releases aren’t excluded. Check out the trailer for the collection right here:

    It looks like a wholesome treat to those that just wanted a bit more from Pixar. This isn’t their first series on the streaming service, as they did have some fun with the Pixar in Real Life series, which offered some fun pranks with our familiar characters. Now, this mini-series collection isn’t our first true long-form story from the animation studio. That will be Win or Lose, which won’t release for some time. It is still great that they are adding some smaller series to still provide some content from their library. Animation isn’t an easy task and takes a lot of time, so it is natural they won’t be releasing one series after another in short succession. It is also completely new territory for the studio, so they might be trying to make sure they get it just right. So, let’s enjoy this new mini-series as we revisit some of our favorite Pixar worlds on January 22.

    Karen Gillan Confirms Nebula’s Return in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

    Just a few weeks ago, we got hints that Nebula actress Karen Gillan was joining Thor: Love and Thunder. She was sharing various photos on Instagram about her heading to Australia. Since then, it seems that more Guardians of the Galaxy were joining the production. Just yesterday, we even got the news that Matt Damon was going to become a part of the production. So far, it still has never been officially confirmed. In a recent Instagram Story, she gave away that she is indeed returning as Nebula in the upcoming Thor sequel.

    I cut it the other day in preparation for Nebula, so that we don’t have to get so much hair into the bald cap because I have so much hair, it’s unbelievable. It’s just so thick.

    It is still crazy to think back to when she shaved her head for Guardians of the Galaxy. While they did find a way to use a bald cap, seems her hair still doesn’t make it an easy process. It is great to finally get a confirmation on her addition. So far, only Chris Pratt‘s return as Star-Lord was officially announced, so this is a safe sign the rest of the Guardians will also make their return. They probably will only have a brief appearance in the film, as Thor took off alongside them at the end of Avengers: Endgame. There is also the possibility that we spend some time with him on various space adventures alongside the Guardians. They might have a bigger role, as they aid the Asgardian in his battle against the God Butcher. There is still some time until the film officially airs, so it will be interesting what else might get announced in the coming months.
