  • ‘Rogue One’ Prequel ‘Andor’ Confirmed for a Late Summer Release on Disney+

‘Rogue One’ Prequel ‘Andor’ Confirmed for a Late Summer Release on Disney+

The new Vanity Fair piece has been a treasure trove of information on what the future has in store for the Star Wars franchise. Alongside an update on the various films in development for the franchise, which has all seemingly been continued to get pushed back even if Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy confirms they have a road map in place. Now, we also got a clear confirmation that the Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna, Andor, will arrive later this summer.

The series is described as a “spy saga” and no clear release date is given, but if it is going for a late summer release we might get a hint during Star Wars Celebration later this month. There have been rumors it might release in August, which would fit a late summer release date. though, there has also been the revealed that She-Hulk would find its way to Disney+ on August 17th.

Still, as we’re seeing shorter release windows between projects like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel, it would seem like they could release it by the end of August. So, it’s great to get a clear indicator for when we can expect the project potentially be released even if the strategy by Lucasfilm and Disney+ has seemingly left much hanging with when their various projects would finally find their way to the service. Still, it looks like this is going to be quite the summer for Star Wars and Marvel fans.

  • REPORT: ‘Rogue One’s Death Troopers to Return in ‘Andor’ Disney+ Series

REPORT: ‘Rogue One’s Death Troopers to Return in ‘Andor’ Disney+ Series

All eyes are right now on Obi-Wan Kenobi, as the six-part limited series is about to release in just a few weeks. Of course, the excitement is big to see the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in their iconic roles. Yet, that’s not all heading our way this year, as we also have the Rogue One prequel series, Andor, heading our way and it seems some familiar Stormtrooper designs will make their grand return.

According to Bespin Bulletin, we will not only see the Death Troopers return, but also Mudtroopers. The former will appear in a sequence alongside white officers, but there’s been no word if we might see the return of Ben Mendelsohn‘s Director Krennic. There’s a good chance that they are simply remaining consistent that the Death Troopers work for high-ranking officers of the Imperial Security Bureau. They are also supposedly joined by Mudtroopers, but no further details are offered.

The Death Troopers may be one of the most iconic designs for the many iterations of Stormtroopers we’ve seen over the years. While it’s still a shame we aren’t exploring the life of a Stormtrooper in a series, perhaps we’ll see Cassian Andor infiltrating the Empire as a Stormtrooper, which leads to some interactions between him and others. We may also find out more about what exactly the function of Death Troopers is, as their name does give a big hint on what they’re most known for. We’re still waiting for a release date for the series, but it seems likely that it may follow once Ms. Marvel is released its finale on Disney+ going by the current release.

  • Disney+’s ‘Andor’ Was Originally Going to Run for 5 Seasons

Disney+’s ‘Andor’ Was Originally Going to Run for 5 Seasons

Here’s an interesting revelation, but it looks like the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series Andor was already mapped out ahead of production on its first. While we still have no release date, the Director of Photography, Adrian Goldman, revealed in an interview with TVCultura that the series was originally mapped out with five seasons in mind. Now, it seems that they have decided to go with three instead. It’s uncertain why exactly the change was made, as he doesn’t elaborate on it. The full quote, as translated by Bespin Bulletin, is as follows:

The series I worked on was supposed to be five seasons long, but I think it’s not happening. It will now have three maybe.

    Adrian Goldman

Bespin also adds that they’ve heard that multiple seasons were planned and the timing of it taking place five years ahead of Rogue One was quite deliberate. They may have noticed it is difficult to fill out a story for each year and adapted it depending on what stories they wanted to tell. They also are seemingly focusing on filming the seasons back-to-back so they will get these out at a decent pace over the coming years. It’s certainly exciting to know that many more Star Wars series are heading our way and Disney+ is also continuing to offer a balance between long-running shows and mini-series.

  • RUMOR: ‘Andor’ Will See the Return of Palpatine’s Pet, Personal Guard

RUMOR: ‘Andor’ Will See the Return of Palpatine’s Pet, Personal Guard

Andor, a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One, is set to stream later this year on Disney Plus, but in keeping with the trend of Star Wars’ streaming series, little has been revealed about the show. It’s place on the timeline allows for it feature an interesting mix of characters as it can, like Rogue One, serve as a bridge from the Reign of the Empire to the Age of Rebellion, meaning characters from the prequels, animated series like The Bad Batch and Rebels and the original trilogy are equally likely to appear.

According to a pair of new rumors from Star Wars Meg and Bespin Bulletin, Grand Vizier Mas Amedda and the crimson-clad Imperial Guard are among those characters expected to return. As BB points out, at the time Andor is expected to take place, Palpatine would have already secluded himself more and more, allowing Amedda to serve as his mouthpiece. So while fans may think Guards=Emperor, that may not be the case. The first season of Andor will also feature a young Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O’Reilly, the former Republic Senator who plays a major role in developing the Rebel Alliance, so it’s possible that Amedda could be featured in scenes centering around diplomatic dialogue with Mothma.

Andor’s first season is expected to consist of 12 episodes and a second season is already in development. The series stars Diego Luna as Rebel spy Cassian Andor, Adria Ajorna and was created by Tony Gilroy.

  • RUMOR: Star Wars’ ‘Andor’ Eyeing an August Release on Disney+

RUMOR: Star Wars’ ‘Andor’ Eyeing an August Release on Disney+

The news has just dropped that Ms. Marvel will release in June, which is quite a twist given how most of Disney+’s series has avoided a crossover. That was especially true for Star Wars and Marvel, but as this series will shortly follow after Obi-Wan Kenobi, it opened a whole new playing field moving forward. And it looks like it also got the attention of Bespin Bulletin, who have broken some reliable stories in the past, as they revealed that the next Star Wars series Andor might be eyeing a release in August.

So far, we know that Disney+ will also add She-Hulk and What If…? Season 2 this year from Marvel, and the second season of The Bad Batch supposedly will also make its way to the app sometime this year. So, we might see a lot more overlap in the future as they also start expanding their productions. Pixar is also working on long-form projects that will get added and National Geographic has been pumping out quite a few original series.

That’s all not including the core Disney series and original films that are in the pipeline. They may have been enjoying the new Wednesday release schedule but it wouldn’t be too surprising if they start setting specific days for specific brands moving forward. It’s only speculation for now but Disney+’s scheduling may look very different once 2022 comes to an end.

  • A New Twitter Account for Disney+’s ‘Andor’ Has Been Spotted

A New Twitter Account for Disney+’s ‘Andor’ Has Been Spotted

It looks like Lucasfilm is ramping up for something, as another private Twitter account has been noticed online. Just last week, fans have noticed that an Obi-Wan Kenobi account was created, which added some heat to marketing plans already being prepared for an eventual reveal. So far, we only got the poster for the series that releases in late May, and now it seems that another Star Wars series got a private account, the Rogue One spinoff, Andor.

Unlike the previous Disney+ series, this one still has no release date or any promotional material surrounding it. It even was left out the Disney+ Day announcements for some reason. Andor has been highly anticipated for it to tell the stories before the character of Diego Luna‘s Cassian Andor would meet up with Jyn Erso. The new account has been discovered by @bigscreenleaks, who shared the screenshot for the Twitter account also confirming it was likely created in February alongside the Obi-Wan Kenobi one.

While we still didn’t get a trailer as initially expected, there’s a good chance that they are preparing everything for May 4th, which is when Lucasfilm generally celebrates all things Star Wars. Currently, most of their focus has been on promoting the Starcruiser attraction, even if it’s a shame on how little they promote their biggest IP, especially considering how many projects are on the horizon. Here’s hoping that this spotting may further some hints that an announcement, release date, or at least a tease is on the horizon.

  • Stellan Skarsgard Confirms ‘Andor’ Season 2

Stellan Skarsgard Confirms ‘Andor’ Season 2

Well, this is an exciting reveal, as actor Stellan Skarsgard has revealed that the Star Wars Disney+ series Andor will get a second season. During an interview with DN.SE, the actor confirmed not only that there is a second season planned but they’ve already set a production start time sometime this fall. He states that:

We start with ‘Dune 2’ in July. And then in the autumn, it’s time for the second season of the Star Wars series ‘Andor.

    Stellan Skarsgard

It looks like Skarsgard has a busy year ahead of him, and it’s interesting that they have already set the production start in fall. We still know very little about the series and how it will explore the early days of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor before he meets up with Jyn Erso.

We also don’t know how it might connect to the larger Star Wars universe, as from all the projects so far, but that didn’t stop Luna from teasing that we might see some “familiar faces” in the series. It’ll take place during the reign of the Empire. So, we could see characters like Han Solo or Obi-Wan Kenobi appear in some capacity. Of course, it may also be Lucasfilm’s first attempt at telling a more self-contained story. We’ll have to wait as the first season of Andor is rumored to release later this year.

  • Disney Plus Streaming Series ‘Andor’ Set for Summer 2022 Debut

Disney Plus Streaming Series ‘Andor’ Set for Summer 2022 Debut

In addition to learning that the Marvel Studios streaming series Ms. Marvel would hit Disney Plus next summer, investors on a conference call with Disney today learned that the 12-episode Star Wars series, Andor, would also stream in that same window.

Q4 for Disney stretches from July 1st through September 30th and with Disney Plus seemingly trying to avoid streaming live-action Marvel Studios series and live-action Star Wars series concurrently, we could hypothetically see Andor pairing up with something like the second season of Marvel Studios What If…?. For more hypothetical 2022 calendar ideas, see V3 of our 2022 hypothetical right here.

Andor will serve as a prequel to Rogue One and see Diego Luna return in the titular role. Adria Arjona and Stellan Skarsgard have joined the cast while Forest Whitaker, Genevieve O’Reilly and Ben Mendelsohn are among those reported to return.

  • Diego Luna Teases “Familiar Faces” in ‘Andor’

Diego Luna Teases “Familiar Faces” in ‘Andor’

Following the ending of the Skywalker Saga on the big screen and The Mandalorian‘s tremendous success on Disney+, Lucasfilm is getting ready for one of its biggest years yet. Boba Fett’s return in The Book of Boba Fett will premier later this year and it will go well into 2022. As for Din Djarin, he will also be back in season 3 of The Mandalorian. But it seems to be the return of fan-favorite characters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor, last seen on the big screen, that keeps getting the biggest amount of attention.

Both characters will lead their own Disney+ show, with Andor, a 12-episode series, set to debut earlier in the year. Lead actor Diego Luna, making his return to the Star Wars universe following 2016’s Rogue One, when addressing the show doesn’t shy away from just how excited he is to bring the character back, and the possibilities that might come with it. The interconnectivity we often witness in Star Wars, as previsouly reported, will most likely allow for several familiar faces to show up either in brief cameos or slighty bigger roles. Luna, while speaking to Deadline, seems to confirm just that saying, “you’ll definitely see familiar faces.”

There have also been several reports dating back to January 2021 regarding who might and who might not be showing up on Andor, the first being that Alan Tudyk will unfortunatelly not be reprising his role as K-2SO. There are also some more positive rumours regarding special appearances. Ben Mendelsohn as Orson KennicForest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera (apparently leaked by Stellan Skarsgård), Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and even Ewan McGregor as the aforementioned Obi-Wan Kenobi. With Andor having 12 episodes, we wouldn’t put it past Lucasfilm to be able to incorporate into the show’s storyline a number of these names in order o bring in fans from all quadrants of the Star Wars fandom, something Luna is clearly hinting at.

Andor doesn’t yet have an official realease date for its Disney+ premiere, but with filming done we should expect it to debut in the first half of 2022, after The Book of Boba Fett airs.

  • Diego Luna Confirms Production Has Wrapped on ‘Andor’

Diego Luna Confirms Production Has Wrapped on ‘Andor’

Production has wrapped on the Disney+ Star Wars series, Andor.

The news was confirmed by actor Diego Luna in a recent interview with Deadline. “I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more,” Luna said. “It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky. We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it.”

Like many Hollywood productions, the coronavirus impacted production on the Star Wars series. Andor was initially set to kick off filming in 2019, then it was delayed to June 2020, right in the midst of the pandemic. Filming finally kicked off in November 2020 and wrapped in August 2021.

“I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen Stars Wars: Rogue One already”, he teased. “No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.”

The 12-episode series, which Luna also executive produced, is expected to hit Disney+ in 2022.
