Theory: Where Has Wanda Been Since ‘WandaVision’?

Warning. This theory includes spoilers for WandaVision

Since the final episode of WandaVision aired, fans have certainly been vocal regarding the events that transpired. Many felt satisfied with the ending. Others felt like the episode needed more. Some believe it didn’t live up to their expectations. Whatever your opinion on the series may be, it certainly fulfilled its goal. Marvel Studios set out to create an MCU-infused sitcom and its own way, it defined a new era of television. And it certainly answered a lot of questions fans had, but it left us with even more questions as the final post-credit scene cut to red. If you have not seen the series finale of WandaVision, save this article and read it later. If not, strap yourselves in because we’re in an emergency theory session and we have a lot to discuss.

    Post-Credit Breakdown

The post-credit scene opens to this open landscape of snowy mountains with a cabin at the center of it all. At first, this location seems like a pretty remote place to be. As we zoom into the cabin, we find Wanda sitting on the porch drinking some tea and it all seems relatively normal until the camera zooms in even further into her room and we find Wanda studying the Darkhold and practicing the Mystic Arts while in her Astral form before she hears the voice of her children calling out to her. This shot actually parallels Doctor Strange in the scene where Doctor Strange is reading a book in his Astral form while sleeping, as shown below.

If you pay attention to the scene, you’ll notice quite the auditory Easter Egg when stripping the voices away and listening only to the soundtrack. While Wanda is reading the Darkhold, a much slower, sinister version of Doctor Strange’s theme. Take a listen below to this video I prepared for you to listen to. Given all these elements, here’s my theory.

    https://twitter.com/SuperheroTheor1/status/1367907000617738243?s=20

The post-credit scene is from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The 2nd post-credit scene in WandaVision may be set during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, approximately 8 months after the events in Westview. First and foremost, you have Wanda conjuring spells and mystical orbs, a la Doctor Strange, while she’s in her Astral form. This ability was something that took Strange months to master even with proper training, but Wanda is learning all on her own volition. So it may have taken her an even longer time to fully be able to understand the Mystic Arts in the way Strange does.

Another hint is in the cinematographic style the scene was shot. It was stylistically very different from the way WandaVision was shot. The style and tone of the camera work, from the wide shot of the mountainous landscape to the continuous one shot through the lake and into the cabin where you have a close-up shot of Wanda from a low angle is a prime example of Sam Raimi‘s work from the past. I would not be surprised if this is her introductory scene in the Doctor Strange sequel. Also, now that we’re talking about the landscape, that cabin and those mountains certainly don’t look like they’re near New Jersey. So where is she?

Wanda is in the Wundagore Mountain.

In the comics, the Darkhold was created at Wundagore Mountain by an Elder God. So, my theory is that Wanda decided to make use of Agatha’s advice and learn the ways of the mystic arts. To do so, she obviously used the Darkhold and there is a possibility that the Darkhold could have led her to this location to study magic in self-isolation. She’s most likely learning about how she can bring back Billy and Tommy since they no longer exist. If we base ourselves on what we know from WandaVision, we know that the book contains spells and magic that are considered “the darkest and unholiest”. Given this context about the Darkhold in both MCU and comic history, plus, the current “unofficial” synopsis of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which states that “an unspeakable evil will be unleashed”, we can conclude that there is indeed a bigger villain being set up here than meets the eye. I suspect that the villain of this sequel could be the author of the Darkhold, and there are several suitable candidates. But that’s another theory for another day.

  • REPORT: Marvel Studios’ ‘She-Hulk’ Adds an Alien Shapeshifter

REPORT: Marvel Studios’ ‘She-Hulk’ Adds an Alien Shapeshifter

WandaVision has come to an end, so all eyes are on Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s upcoming release. Still, Marvel Studios has been busy developing their various Disney+ series. It looks like the upcoming adaptation of She-Hulk is already well-underway getting its cast together. Illuminerdi has revealed that the series will add a female alien shapeshifter for two episodes. She is described as someone who loves to use her abilities to get “power, money, and attention”. It also states she has an affinity for Earth’s pop culture, which confirms she is from space. The character is being cast under the hilarious code name, A’Dood. Now, the most likely candidate would be the Skrull, Jazinda Kl’rt-Spawn, as Illuminerdi is also theorizing.

For those wondering who this character might be, she is the daughter of the Super-Skrull Kl’rt. After being exiled from the Skrull Empire, she started a new life on Earth. There, she saved She-Hulk’s life and ended up working alongside her for Freeman Bonding Incorporated, which is a bail bond specialized in superhuman law. It is a subsidiary of the Law Firm of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway, where Jennifer Walter would eventually work.

Now, there’s also the chance the shapeshifter ends up being a different character who has ties to the previously-mentioned law firm. There was also Ditto, who ended up being the cause why Titania attacked Timely Plaza. Yet, why introduce a brand new alien race of shapeshifters after they spend a lot of time focusing on the Skrulls? It would also allow the show to tie into the upcoming Secret Invasion Disney+ series, which will adapt the iconic storyline from 2008. In the comics, Jazinda was informed about the invasion but chose not to tell anyone at the time. It will be interesting to see how this character ties into the overarching story.

  • Kelly Marie Tran Talks About Recording From Home in ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Featurette

Kelly Marie Tran Talks About Recording From Home in ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Featurette

Alongside the finale for WandaVision, Disney+ has released its next Premier Access title, Raya and the Last Dragon. It is the first major picture of the year that will introduce the world to the world of Kumandra. Kelly Marie Tran takes on the role of the titular hero Raya, who must track down the last dragon, Sisu. They have been busy marketing the film’s release on the streaming service, which may also become an indicator for the longevity of this business model. Yet, we haven’t really gotten the usual look at behind-the-scenes, as the pandemic forced them to think outside of the box to get their hands on the recordings. Luckily, Disney has released a brand new featurette that answers a few of our questions about how they handled it in the pandemic.

The featurette reveals that quite a few of the actors have recorded their characters in their own homes. The extensive cast featuring Awkwafina, Izaac Wang, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong, and so many had quite the challenge ahead of them. We get a brief sequence of them working at what seems to be a studio, which shows how flexible work in any industry had to be throughout the year. It is also adorable to see Tran share her love of Disney, and it must be quite a feeling to make a dream come true like this. Even in the chaos that has been going on sincelast year, it is always good to keep a smile and make the best of any situation.

  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Cynthia Erivo Join Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Pinocchio’

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Cynthia Erivo Join Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Pinocchio’

Disney has been busy developing their next live-action adaptations of some of their classic animations. A few days ago, Jessica Alexander joined the upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid. That wasn’t the end of it just yet. They’ve also been busy casting their cast for the Robert Zemeckis-directed Pinocchio. The Wrap has reported that Cynthia Erivo closed a deal to play the Blue Fairy. They also found their Jiminy Cricket. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the production as the helpful companion. They are joining Keegan-Michael Key as Honest John and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who will voice the titular Pinocchio.

The film will be adapted based on a script by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz. It will start production in the United Kingdom. It is joining other Disney adaptations that will head directly to the Disney+ streaming service once it premieres, as revealed in Disney’s Investors Day. Guillermo del Toro has also been working on a new adaptation of the iconic wooden boy, which will be a far departure from the Disney original. It will be interesting to see how different these two visions will end up being when they release.

Erivo has quite the background. She appeared in the films WidowsHarriet, and the HBO series ‘The Outsiders. She has been quite busy with her debut album and a children’s book on the way as well. The actress will also portray Aretha Franklin in the upcoming series Genius. It is great to see her join the upcoming Disney+ film, and it will be interesting to see what she brings to the role of the Blue Fairy.

  • Report: Obi Wan Kenobi will appear in “Star Wars: Andor”

Report: Obi Wan Kenobi will appear in “Star Wars: Andor”

Coming off the heels of an incredible season finale of The Mandalorian in December, many Star Wars fans are excited to see where the next story set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away may take them. Some are excited to continue with the aftermath of Order 66 in The Bad Batch, while others may be waiting to see what the dealings in The Book of Boba Fett have in store for the famed bounty hunter. But amongst the lists of series and films that are coming soon to a galaxy near you is the upcoming Disney+ series, Star Wars: Andor.

Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm, described the series as “a tense nail-biting spy thriller in the Star Wars universe.” Created by Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Identity), Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor from the spinoff film, Rogue One. He will also be joined by the cast of Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. And it seems that a certain negotiator may have joined their ranks as well.

Our friends at the Illuminerdi are reporting that Ewan McGregor is set to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for the upcoming Andor series. What’s interesting is that it reportedly will not be a “one and done” cameo like Luke Skywalker at the end of Season 2 for The Mandalorian, but that he’ll rather have a recurring role in the series. Now, this would certainly serve quite some backstory for the character of Obi-Wan, given that he’s been isolated in Tatooine since the events of Revenge of the Sith all the way until A New Hope. Let’s not forget that we’re also going to be getting an Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ as well after this, which is set 10 years after the events of Episode III, so it would be interesting to see how the two series will connect with one another.

  • Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Reboot Adds Jessica Alexander in Undisclosed Role

Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Reboot Adds Jessica Alexander in Undisclosed Role

It looks like Disney is working hard on developing their live-action remakes. We just recently got the trailer for their upcoming 101 Dalmations prequel, Cruella. It will tell the story of the iconic villain before she becomes obsessed with Dalmations. It looks like they are also hard at work in adapting their next live-action adaptation of a Disney classic, as The Little Mermaid has officially cast Jessica Alexander. Her role is currently undisclosed for the upcoming Rob Marshall film. She will be joining Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, and Javier Bardem.

Alexander had quite a year with her work on Ruth Paxton’s A Banquet and Kelsey Egan’s Glasshouse. After her debut with Get Even on Netflix, it is a great step forward. David Magee‘s script will adapt 1989 animated classic. It will also include the songs and add some new ones. Alan Menken will compose them based on lyrics by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda. He will also produce the film alongside Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca.

It will be interesting to see if they stick to the original story similar to Aladdin, or if they will add more context to the story. Bailey will be playing the titular role of Ariel opposite McCarthy‘s Ursula. Bardem will tackle the role of Triton in the story. Alexander could be playing one of Ariel’s sisters, or even voice Flounder. It will be interesting if they integrate more aspects of the original Hans Christian Andersen to flesh out the story more. No matter what direction they will go, it’s going to be interesting to see Disney attempt a film that mainly takes place underwater.

  • ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ Release Date Revealed Alongside New Trailer

‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’ Release Date Revealed Alongside New Trailer

It has been quite the day for Disney+, as they’ve been releasing one reveal after another. They are using the current TCA event to showcase their upcoming series to get some release dates out and answer a few questions. Loki got a new release date in June and it looks like another series got its release date. Disney+ has confirmed that The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is going to release on the service as of March 26th. It also came alongside a new poster and trailer that teases the next generation of misfits standing up for what they believe in.

The new Mighty Ducks series looks like a promising look at kids coming together. The original franchise that started in 1992 consisted of three films. Game Changers is the first live-action series that will see the return of screenwriter Steven Brill and producer Jordan Kerner. Brill is serving as head writer for the series, while Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa will serve as showrunners. The franchise also had an animated series that had nothing to do with the original franchise, as it focused on anthropomorphic ducks that played the game. Only the iconic team’s symbol and the name carried over into the animated adaptation. I would love to see an animated series in the background that pays tribute to the animated series.

‘Monsters at Work’ to Release on Disney+ in July

It is quite the day for Disney+. We just got the release date for Loki confirmed, which will not premiere a month later than originally announced. Now, Well, it looks like one more upcoming Disney+ series just got an official release date, as it was revealed that Disney’s animated series Monsters At Work is going to premiere July 2nd on the streaming platform.

The series will work as a sequel to the original Pixar series Monsters Inc. and will continue to flesh out the franchise. The last time we visited Monstropolis, it was Monsters University, which explored Mike Wazowkis and James P. Sullivan’s college years. This series will feature the return of Billy Crystal and John Godman in the iconic roles, but will mainly focus on brand new monsters. Now that the power plant is run by children’s laughter rather than screams, a young scarer Tylor Tuskmon, who is played by Ben Feldman, will be in for a rude awakening with the company’s new direction.

  • UPDATE: Marvel Studios Not Bringing ‘Big Hero 6’ to the MCU After All

UPDATE: Marvel Studios Not Bringing ‘Big Hero 6’ to the MCU After All

UPDATE: It looks like Big Hero 6 might not be making their live-action debut anytime soon after all. In a brand new report by Variety, they state that their sources at the studio confirm there are no current plans. They believe the franchise is currently staying in Disney’s hands rather than returning to its Marvel branding. The upcoming Baymax-focused sequel is also stated as a reason that Disney is keen on keeping the franchise in-house to avoid confusion. The original film and its sequel series never got the iconic Marvel branding, so that could be one of the reasons. It doesn’t mean it will never happen, but for now, the recent report by DisInsider has been debunked.

When Marvel Studios said that the universe is expanding, it seems like they really meant it. According to Derek Cornell over at TheDisInsider, the superhero team known as Big Hero 6 is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You may have already heard of this team before, most notable for their solo animated picture from Disney animation back in 2014. While the film was a big departure from the original comics, it still was quite popular amongst fans. Now it seems that DisInsider uncovered that Marvel Studios is ready to bring them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Unofficial Logo Render by Superhero Theorist

At the moment, there isn’t a lot known about the project at this time. It is uncertain if they plan on introducing the comic version of the team or if Marvel will go with Disney’s versions. What we do know is that this will be a live-action adaptation. They also hint at them potentially appearing in a future series, such as Secret Invasion, the rumored Agents of Atlas, or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As such, it would rules out projects like Marvel’s “What If…?”. However, we know that Marvel tends to sneak in a couple of easter eggs now and then regarding their upcoming projects. So, while it may not have been a direct hint that Big Hero 6 is joining the MCU, Marvel did sneak a nice little easter egg regarding one of the franchise’s characters. Tadashi Hamada’s name is seen briefly in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) when Tony Stark goes through new AIs to replace JARVIS.

Following the 2014 animated film, Disney produced a 2D animated sequel series titled Big Hero 6: The Series, which will end this year. There is also a spinoff planned to debut on Disney+ next year titled Baymax. So, it looks like there are big plans for Hiro and Baymax moving forward.
