  • David Hayter to Adapt American McGee’s ‘Alice’ as a TV Series, No Network Currently Attached

David Hayter to Adapt American McGee’s ‘Alice’ as a TV Series, No Network Currently Attached

It looks like the twisted take on a childhood classic is getting another revival, as American McGee’s Alice is heading to TV. David Hayter, who is well-known as the voice of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solider and for writing the X-Men film, will tackle a live-action adaptation of the cult classic gaming franchise. Ted Field‘s Radar Pictures is working on the project alongside the writer with Abandon Entertainment also involved. The rights are owned by Electronic Arts, which has been actively looking into ways to expand its intellectual properties through adaptation. Hayter had the following to say on the project:

American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is a groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale. It takes you into the heart of a corrupted Wonderland and throws light into shadowy corners the world has never seen. I am beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience

    David Hayter

The story will follow Alice’s descent into madness after her home is burnt down and she loses her family in the process. In the original game, we follow her time in a mental asylum after she tried to commit suicide before she ventures back into Wonderland to save her psyche. The original franchise was created by American McGee – yes, his real name – who was well-known for his work on projects like DOOM and Quake. He had the following to say on the adaptation:

David Hayter brings imagination, experience, and stealth sneaking skills gained through successful missions in film, TV, and video games – a unique combination sure to make this adventure into Wonderland a successful one for the franchise and the fans. I am excited to be working with him and know the Alice fans will welcome him with mad affection.

    American McGee

He is currently working on a third entry of the franchise known as Alice: Asylum, which takes place after Madness Returns. The game currently has no release date, but the timing does seem perfect to start building some momentum for the new release. It currently has no broadcaster or streamer involved, but the dark story might find a suitable home soon.

  • ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Sequel Announcement to Follow Later This Year

‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Sequel Announcement to Follow Later This Year

Final Fantasy VII Remake redefined our understanding of the original franchise and left us wanting more. As the next release was uncertain, we got the Intergrade DLC that offered a smaller piece of content as we waited for the full release of its second part. Plus, we know very little about how much the sequel would cover from the original game, as the first entry only covered the Midgar storyline from the original. Sadly, it seemed like today’s 25th anniversary live stream won’t give us an update, but luckily it seems we won’t have to wait that much longer.

Producer and director of the original Final Fantasy VII, Yoshinori Kitase, revealed that the first details of the sequel will be revealed throughout the year. The quote, whose translation is provided by Twitter user PushDustIn via VGC, does hint at some uncertainties if the 2022 reveal is definite.

We are hard at work on Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, so please look forward to that. In addition, with regards to the long awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake [Part 2]… there will be more information… this year if we can.

    Yoshinori Kitase

Still, this does mean that the reveal won’t take too much longer potentially. It’s going to be two years since the first part was released, and if we get our first details this year, we could hope for a potential 2023 release. There probably won’t be another piece of DLC, but it’ll be interesting to see how our work in the first part may potentially lead into the sequel, such as Materia, gear, or skills. Here’s hoping that the wait isn’t too much longer, as we head into a massive 2022 year filled with anniversaries.

  • ‘Final Fantasy VII’ Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With a New Logo

‘Final Fantasy VII’ Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With a New Logo

There are quite a few celebrations this year, such as Kingdom Heart‘s 20th anniversary, Persona is celebrating its 25th anniversary and so much more. Among them is also the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, which many deem as the turning point for the entire franchise into what it is today. Of course, there’s always a lot of excitement around these celebrations, as there are high hopes for reveals and confirmations that fans are clamoring for.

In addition to the recent release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, there was a new wave of entries in the numbered part of the franchise, such as the recently released The First Soldier mobile game with Ever Crisis on the horizon. We’re still anxiously awaiting any news on the second entry in the Remake franchise, but to hold us over we got a brand new logo celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise, which you can check out here:

Even the Kingdom Hearts franchise continued its tradition of paying homage to the series with a visual that recreates an iconic cover from the game but uses assets from its own franchise instead. They did something similar during its 20th anniversary

There’s a stream planned for today, but there was a confirmation that we shouldn’t expect any news regarding the Remake sequel, as only The First Soldier content has been hinted at so far. Of course, there’s always a chance they might surprise fans, but it seems a bit unlikely as of now. We also haven’t heard anything on Ever Crisis since its announcement last year. Yet, there have been hints that the franchise has started an interest in other spinoffs after Remake’s success. For now, the celebration seems to be mainly for the past rather than the future.

  • Live-Action ‘Halo’ Series Will Premiere March 24 on Paramount+

Live-Action ‘Halo’ Series Will Premiere March 24 on Paramount+

A live-action Halo adaptation has been one of those projects in development hell for years; it had Steven Spielberg and Rupert Wyatt attached at one point; it went from Showtime to Paramount+; the showrunners working on it split up. So it came as a surprise several months ago when they finally unveiled the first poster, confirming that the show was, finally, tangible.

Today is a big day for fans as the trailer for the series will be unveiled during the AFC halftime show. And as a precursor to tonight’s festivities, the released date for the series was unveiled: March 24th.

To see the show premiere so soon almost feels surreal. But March 24 is merely a few weeks away, given how February starts in a few nights’ sleep. Within a span of a few days, we’ll be able to see Halo and Moon Knight. To also see the handful of footage in that preview looks so beautiful is exciting. It looks well shot, it’s got a solid cast, and the scope looks impressive.

  • ‘Mortal Kombat 12’ Seemingly Confirmed by Netherrealm Studios Staffer

‘Mortal Kombat 12’ Seemingly Confirmed by Netherrealm Studios Staffer

It’s been dead silent within the violent realms of Mortal Kombat as we still haven’t heard anything from Netherrealm Studios regarding the future of the franchise. Support for the ultra-successful Mortal Kombat 11 ended some time ago and things have yet to officially materialize from the rumored Mortal Kombat 12 tidbits last December.

Today, however, puts a pause on the Mortal Kombat drought fans have been going through as a Netherrealm Studios staffer may have unknowingly confirmed the 12th installment in the franchise. Senior production manager Jonathan Andersen (or Jandy as he’s known in the community) tweeted this innocuous image today but quickly deleted it.

Any sane person would write this off as a neat look at a Netherrealm employee’s desk but an insane, obsessive fan like me would always think to zoom in on the periphery. Lo and behold, here’s what a zoomed-in image on Andersen’s monitor looks like.

If that image is too blurry for you, it reads MK12_Mast… which could likely be a masthead for the game. One of the files next to it has the name Reptile on it as well.

Could this be one of those intentional gags people have been known to pull to throw fans off? It could very well be. Fans of the MCU are well-versed in the faux leaks Tom Holland has been known to do. Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon himself frequently messes with fans online. An email that can be partially read from the image above addresses the confidentiality of the document which could be a tongue-in-cheek nod to this charade.

However, there’s also no reason to stir the pot this deliberately. For one, it’s an unnecessary attempt to draw attention to a game that’s been stored under lock and key. For another, it’s hard to imagine that a Twitter stunt by one of the game’s senior designers would be approved by the execs over at Warner Bros. Tom Holland’s “leaks” are obvious and are explicitly played for the laughs while this is one meticulous and near-impossible to notice. This feels like a genuine fumble by a staffer.

  • Footage of the Cancelled Boba Fett Game Has Surfaced Online

Footage of the Cancelled Boba Fett Game Has Surfaced Online

Once upon a time, before the age of Disney, Lucasfilm was working on a game titled Star Wars: 1313. The game was centered on mythical bounty hunter Boba Fett as he made his way through the underbelly of a crime-ridden part of Coruscant referred to as Level 1313.

At the time, All eyes were on this game as it promised an immersive look into a world of Star Wars that we haven’t seen through the helmet of Boba Fett no less. Alas, the game wasn’t meant to be as it was canceled as soon as Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. Star Wars: 1313 became known as one of those pre-Disney treasures that were lost in the ether forever, never to be seen again.

Today, some footage of the canceled game has made its way online, giving us a look at what could have been. Check it out below!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XehW4OMiEr4

The game never quite made its way into a finished state hence the wildly underdeveloped systems and graphics. It isn’t quite groundbreaking by modern standards but it gives us a nice look at this Sleeping Dogs/GTA-esque game set in the underworld. Even from this brief clip, we get a version of Boba Fett that is already sorely lacking from this new era of Star Wars.

The leak almost feels serendipitous in the face of the criticism leveled at The Book of Boba Fett, a show that was supposed to give us the crime bounty hunter show we all wanted. Instead, the show ended up as a truncated, uneven story that saw Boba Fett getting punked weekly.

It’s unlikely we ever see this game get revived despite Lucasfilm’s recently announced plans to expand their AAA gaming line. We can only hope that we get something as ambitious as this buried project.

  • Carrie-Anne Moss and Angela Bassett To Star in ‘Horizon Forbidden West’

Carrie-Anne Moss and Angela Bassett To Star in ‘Horizon Forbidden West’

Gaming continues to gain recognition from Hollywood as the number of famous actors lending their talents to the world of gaming increases. Keanu Reeves famously starred in Cyberpunk 2077 as the enigmatic Johnny Silverhand and now, his The Matrix Resurrections co-star Carrie-Anne Moss is set to appear in the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West. In addition to that, Black Panther star Angela Bassett will be appearing in the game as one of Aloy’s villains.

Moss will be playing a mysterious character named Tilda, who bookends the latest trailer with a very intriguing appearance. Bassett, on the other hand, will be playing Regalla, one of the ruthless warriors who get in the way of Aloy. Horizon Forbidden West also sees the return of John Wick star Lance Reddick, who plays the cunning deuteragonist Sylens, who may or may not be the true big bad of the sequel.

  • ‘Fortnite’: Leak Offers First Look at ‘Hawkeye’-Inspired Skins

‘Fortnite’: Leak Offers First Look at ‘Hawkeye’-Inspired Skins

It’s already been a few weeks since Marvel Studios’ last Diseny+ series, Hawkeye, ended its run. We explored the story of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, as they faced an unlikely challenge in the return of Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin. It was only a question of time until the new designs of these iconic characters make their way to other media, and it looks like Fortnite had some big plans for the characters that ended up leaking earlier.

@ralisdumb has shared the loading screen for the two new skins, which continues to prove that Epic Games found the perfect animation style for its skins in Fortnite. It seems like they can perfectly adapt any type of medium into the game, as it now includes live-action characters, animation, and who knows what else might get added in the future.

I do love the aesthetic they took to highlight the skins, as it has this neon noir take on the rings. The Disney+ series mostly has a Christmas aesthetic and takes a lot of inspiration from the My Life as a Weapon storyline, which had a flat design. So, the Fortnite take on the design is a great way to not only make the new skins stand out but also give it a unique spin.

  • BREAKING: Microsoft Has Bought Activision Blizzard

BREAKING: Microsoft Has Bought Activision Blizzard

First Bethesda, now Activision Blizzard. Microsoft seems keen on owning a big portion of the gaming industry, having purchased the industry’s biggest companies in a span of a few years. This major acquisition comes in the midst of all of Activision Blizzard’s workplace scandals that are currently upending the industry in major ways. Microsoft addressed their plans for reforming the workplace culture of Activision Blizzard which unfortunately does not include the firing of complicit CEO Bobby Kotick, at least in the meantime.

With this acquisition, Microsoft will now be home to major gaming titles under the Activision Blizzard banner such as Overwatch, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Candy Crush. The deal is expected to finalize in the fiscal year of 2023 so it still has ways to go.

  • RUMOR: ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Release Window May Have Leaked Early

RUMOR: ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Release Window May Have Leaked Early

While the Wizarding World franchise has slowly been moving away from Hogwarts, as we explore the world surrounding it through the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Yet, many still have the fantasy to be students at Hogwarts and, luckily, a new game heading to PlayStation may offer exactly that titled Hogwarts Legacy. We’re still anxiously awaiting a release date, but it seems it may have leaked early.

Industry Insider Tom Henderson has revealed that there are plans for a new PlayStation State of Play that would feature the Harry Potter spinoff game. It would give us the release window. Yes, not the actual release date but a hint at when we can expect it. It seems that the game is eyeing a release in the third quarter, which would mean a summer release between July to August. WB Games might be trying to give themselves some flexibility in case Omicron leads to more delays.

The concept of an open-world game that lets you explore the many corners of Hogwarts is quite an exciting one for long-time fans. It seems that player customization will let you individualize your experience while also trying to grab the house you always wanted to be part of. We’ll see if WB Games can bring their ambitious project to life and get a closer look in February if this rumor turns out true.
