  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Won’t Feature All Guardians, Takes Place After ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special Won’t Feature All Guardians, Takes Place After ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

We’ve all been speculating on what exactly awaits us in the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. We know that the loveable space crew is going to make their return post-Avengers: Endgame in Thor: Love and Thunder but there was some uncertainty about how that might tie into the new special heading to Disney+ this Christmas. Luckily, James Gunn offered some insight into what to expect in a new post on Twitter, where he not only confirmed when it takes place within the MCU’s elusive timeline but also that not every Guardian member is included.

In the tweet, Gunn points out that it takes place between Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In a way, that confirms that whatever happens in the special may also potentially set up some pot threads in the threequel. Yet, when he mentions a fan-made image, he points out that not every one of the included Guardians will appear in the film. Given its place in the timeline, it’s pretty easy to guess that he likely is implying that Gamora won’t appear in the special. He does confirm it’s part of the MCU canon, which makes it a natural lead into their eventual reunion in Vol. 3.

It fits given the release window and it would’ve been strange if it takes place after Vol. 3, especially with many hints pointing to it being the final installment for this version of the team, especially as James Gunn plans to move on to other projects. It’s great that the team gets a sendoff with a third entry, which almost didn’t happen as initially planned, and even a Holiday Special on top of it all.

  • Chris Pratt on How Star-Lord in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is Different from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Chris Pratt on How Star-Lord in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is Different from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Star-Lord is about to make his return in Thor: Love and Thunder, as he is still recovering from traveling alongside a mopy God of Thunder. Of course, Chris Pratt‘s return in the upcoming Thor sequel will also act as a prelude to what may be the final Guardians of the Galaxy film. Vol. 3 is still a year away, but that didn’t stop Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier to ask Chris Pratt how different it is to tackle the same character in different franchises.

Well, you know, there’s James Gunn’s Peter Quill and then there’s the Peter Quill that has existed outside of James Gunn, which is in cameos in The Avengers and now the cameos in Thor.

    Chris Pratt

He goes on to highlight just how different it is working on the character when director James Gunn is involved, as the character “is an extension of him.” So, naturally, it adds a special layer to the character and how the creative team tackles the character.

And so truly the Peter Quill that I do when James is in charge is an extension of him. And the Peter Quill that I do when it’s not him in charge is really kind of me let loose to do a little bit more than probably he would want me to do, in some way. So I guess the difference would be that.

    Chris Pratt

The actor also teases how the projects will connect, as there will be a transition from where Star-Lord is during Love and Thunder before heading out into his own adventure with the rest of the Guardians in Vol. 3.

James Gunn has a [focus] for Quill that isn’t on for Thor or for Avengers. And so we’ll see how that plays out when it comes out. I mean, we’re obviously dealing with the end of Avengers and where that left the Guardians of the Galaxy with Thor [Love and Thunder]. We’ll see how that sort of transition works to set up [Guardians of the Galaxy] Volume 3.

    Chris Pratt

It’ll definitely be interesting to see how the films connect, especially as there’s still the question of if they are still actively searching for Gamora, who has been missing since the events of Avengers: Endgame. Not only that, but she’s also not the version they spent their time with, as she’s displaced from a different timeline. So, we’ll see if they might hint at her whereabouts in the Thor sequel.

  • Dave Bautista May Have Further Hinted at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ as His Final Appearance as Drax

Dave Bautista May Have Further Hinted at ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ as His Final Appearance as Drax

announcing that they’ve wrapped work on the third entry of Guardians of the Galaxy, which has been heavily hinted at as James Gunn‘s last. The same set of photos with the cast hanging out to celebrate their work was now also shared by Dave Bautista, who has included a rather curious hashtag that may further add to the rumors that he’s potentially moving on from the role of Drax the Destroyer.

In the latest post on Instagram, Bautista includes a reference on how surprising it “ended so suddenly” and that he’s already working on his next film project. Yet, the big surprise is the inclusion of a hashtag that states “#GoodbyeDrax.” Considering he’s hinted in the past that he’s nearing his end with the franchise, this may be some further evidence that he truly is moving on once we see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next May.

There have been many hints that the current version of the Guardians of the Galaxy will very likely come to an end with the third entry. We don’t know if we’ll further explore the galaxy with a different incarnation of this team, but it adds some tension to who might end up surviving the events of the film, as well as who will completely set out on their own adventure. The future still seems possible for some characters, it’s simply uncertain until we actually get to watch the film.

  • Karen Gillan Wraps ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, Talks the Future of Nebula

Karen Gillan Wraps ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, Talks the Future of Nebula

A recent batch of photos from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seemed to indicate that Karen Gillan’s time on set was coming to an end. Today, the actress confirmed that she had completed her portion of the 2023 sequel’s principal photography.

Gillan was cast as Nebula in early 2013 and has appeared in 4 films (Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) with 2 more (Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) appearances on the way. After serving as one of the primary antagonists of the first Guardians’ film, Gillan’s role expanded greatly as her character evolved. Nebula served as one of the main characters of Avengers: Endgame and director James Gunn has said she will play a larger role in Vol. 3.

As Gillan explains, the future of the character is up in the air given that Gunn has repeatedly explained that the third film will be the end of the story for the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It is possible, however, that given her popularity, Marvel Studios could look to work with Gillan on a solo Nebula project, keep her attached to future Guardians’ films or simply find another way to incorporate the character. Nebula has had one of the most intense and emotional onscreen arcs of any character in the MCU, so it would be a shame if the threequel closes the door on the character’s future now that she’s come to find herself after years of abuse at the hands of Thanos.

  • First Tease of High Evolutionary Spotted in New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photo

First Tease of High Evolutionary Spotted in New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photo

We’ve long wondered who might be the villain in the upcoming third entry of the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Recent set photos offered a hint at what may be the MCU’s interpretation of Halfworld, Rocket’s homeworld in the comics. It looked like a replica of Earth with some outdated clothing, but what stood out is that every “human” seemed like they were also a hybrid of a random animal. Now, Cosmic Circus has shared what may be our first tease of the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

There have been rumors that Chukwudi Iwjui might be playing the character, but we still haven’t gotten an official announcement on who exactly he’s playing in the upcoming threequel. The tease is certainly interesting and the alien language further hints at similarities to Earth but with some unique distinctions. It may be a different take on the Counter-Earth, which was high Evolutionary’s way of creating a “purer” version of the normal Earth.

    Image

It still seems possible that his history is with Earth and that may have been his inspiration. He’d actually make a perfect counter to Star-Lord, who also has a history with the planet but is still stuck in a very different time. They may bond over that era before realizing that while Star-Lord learned to embrace the future, especially going by the Holiday Special teases, Evolutionary is still stuck to a bygone era. So, they may use this as a way to create a contrast between the two.

  • New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos May Tease Rocket’s Halfworld

New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos May Tease Rocket’s Halfworld

Not too long ago, we covered a few set photos from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that seemingly gave us our first look at some comic-accurate costumes for the Guardians. At the time, it gave us a good look at Star-Lord and Nebula. Now, a new batch of set photos has found its way online from JustJared. While they don’t include any other Guardian members, it does give us a good look at the planet they are on, which looks a lot like Earth. Yet, the characters running around are seemingly humanoid and animal hybrids. Could this potentially be a new interpretation of Rocket Raccoon’s home planet Halfworld?

As these images are provided by JustJared, we cannot share them but they can be checked out by clicking here.

In the images, we get a good look at characters that look like they have attributes of a bat, a boar, a cat, and more. They are all very humanoid with some animal attributes. So, it doesn’t look like they are normal-sized unlike Rocket, who is mostly a raccoon with some improvements. Yet, the clothing seems quite outdated, which makes you wonder if perhaps this is a planet where another evolution echoed that of Earth but got stuck in another timeline.

Perhaps Halfworld is the playground for the High Evolutionary, who was from Earth. With his time in space, he may have wanted to return to an era when he last saw his home and while creating the various creatures that roam this planet, ended up also replicating something that is similar to Earth. Rocket may have been part of earlier experiments and these are the most advanced results of the Evolutionary research. It would be a fun way of playing with the Guardians and the audience. For now, it’s just speculation but it does look like we’ll get a very unique interpretation if this is indeed Halfworld.

Production on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 might be nearing its end, but that doesn’t mean there’s been a shortage of set photos. Thanks to Just Jared, we have a new look at some of the Guardians cast on the set, including Chris Pratt and Karen Gillan. Both Pratt and Gillan are in character and seem to be sporting new uniforms that are sure to delight comic book fans.

Gone is Starlord’s maroon trench coat. Instead, Pratt’s Starlordis seen sporting the classic blue uniform from the comics with the red lining and classic guardians’ emblem. Also sporting the classic uniform is Gillan’s Nebula, who looks to finally be an official member of the team. • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Future Currently Uncertain After Square Enix Sale

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s Future Currently Uncertain After Square Enix Sale

A bombshell has just dropped, as Square Enix just sold its entire Western division for only $300M. With one single sale, the Japanese developer has sold every Western company under their umbrella alongside the many IPs that they work on. Yet, it also opens up the question of what exactly this means for the future of the Marvel games that are being developed by some of their studios.

Initially, the deal made between Square Enix and Marvel would include four games. Two of those released in the form of Crystal Dynamics’ first venture into Games-as-a-Service with Marvel’s Avengers and the story-focused Guardians of the Galaxy by Eidos. During the press conference on the purchase, a statement was made on if the development of Marvel games would continue.

All games that have been developed by the studios are included in the deal. However, a number of external approvals are needed from external parties to close this transaction. And potentially, licenses as mentioned here could be one of those approvals needed.

    Lars Wingefors

So, if Marvel or Disney decides not to renew the license, the games would potentially find their end. This news hits especially hard for Crystal Dynamics, which has been quite dedicated to making Marvel’s Avengers work as a service game. after its critical success, there was also a lot of hope that Guardians of the Galaxy would get a sequel. Yet, if they do not renew their deal with the new Embracer Group, it sadly could spell the end of these ventures once the deal is finalized.

  • First Set Video of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Offers First Look at ‘Eternals’ Easter Egg

First Set Video of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Offers First Look at ‘Eternals’ Easter Egg

We’ve gotten a surprising amount of teases from behind the scenes of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Just recently, we got our first good close-up of Drax and Mantis wandering the streets of Hollywood during Christmas. It was the only real confirmation that what they were filming wasn’t for Vol. 3, which James Gunn is working on simultaneously. Now, it seems that the same scene has found its way online as a video, which reveals what exactly Drax and Mantis are up to.

As shared by u/iggyfenton on Reddit, we can clearly see the two just strolling down the street. In the end, they seemingly stumble upon a group of people in Avengers costumes. As they’ve met them in the last two Avengers films, it would be fun to see the two think these are the real deal while mocking their new costumes. Drax might even like them more, as they are a bit flashier. There’s not too much new in this scene, but it does confirm the recent rumor of a sighting that the Chinese Theater includes a poster of one of Kingo’s Bollywood movies. Luckily, the video gives us our first good look at it.

What does stand out is that Drax can be seen pointing at Kingo for a second. As there might be other versions of the character out there, it wouldn’t be too out-there to guess that Drax and the Guardians may have met a version of the character that lived on a different planet. There’s a lot of potentials to see these worlds collide, especially as we have no idea what the future has in store for the Eternals, in-universe and outside of it. It’s surprising they managed to film them for as long as they did. Security was trailing them but not reacting, but it’s great to get a little glimpse from a different angle than what we’ll get when the Holiday Special releases later this year.

  • New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Set Photos Offer a Close-Up of Mantis and Drax Enjoying the Holidays

New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Set Photos Offer a Close-Up of Mantis and Drax Enjoying the Holidays

We’ve had a few set photos in the past from the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It teased that the upcoming special will see the Guardians return to Earth. There were even rumors that hinted at Kevin Bacon potentially appearing in the Disney+ special but there was no hint on what role he might have in the project. No matter what it might end up being, a new batch of set photos has found their way online with our best look yet at Dave Bautista‘s Drax and Pom Klementieff‘s Mantis.

The photos provided by @guardiansupdate offer some close-up images of the two seemingly enjoying the wonders of the Holidays on Earth. The reaction of the Mantis to a human statue is an adorable addition. Her costume has seemingly changed the least between films but Drax got quite an upgrade with his outfit.

    https://twitter.com/guardiansupdate/status/1520192538367385601

It’s strange not to see Bautista shirtless as Drax, as there was an ongoing joke that his nipples are sensitive in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We’ll see if the others forced him to put on some clothes while on Earth so that he wouldn’t stick out too much, but they may not include any reference. Still, it seems likely that this is also the design he’ll have in Vol. 3, which might wrap up his story in the franchise.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s current roster might undergo quite a change moving forward if the team remains at all. Director James Gunn will wrap up his time with the team and move on to other projects afterward. So, we’ll see who will remain within the MCU or who might be leaving the franchise behind.
