RUMOR: Kevin Bacon May Appear in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ or Its Holiday Special

Here’s an interesting rumor, as a Redditor by the name of u/CassandraOracle has shared some insight into the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 productions. They were filming near her some days ago and she shared some of her observations. It seems they were working on an action scene which involved Beverly Hills police cars. Yet, what stands out is that it seems word was going around that Kevin Bacon was involved with the scene.

The addition of Kevin Bacon would be a perfect way to round out the third entry of the trilogy, as Star-Lord has an ongoing obsession with the film Footloose. What is highlighted is that the police cars may be from the past, as a retro design was on set with a hint at it potentially being the early 2000s. Drax’s stunt double was sighted on set, but unsure if he actively had a role of some kind in the scene. So, either we have some time travel shenanigans or someone is toying with Peter Quill’s mind. There’s always a chance that this is also something involving the Disney+ Holiday Special that is being developed around the same time.

We had the famous David Hasselhoff cameo during the second entry of the franchise, when Ego briefly transformed into him to tease Peter’s role models. So, the addition of Kevin Bacon seems to likely lean towards that direction rather than him playing a character. Yet, it would be a fun twist that the actor is some kind of space warrior in his spare time adding to his theory that the actor is some kind of hero.

  • James Gunn Teases Runtime of ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’

James Gunn Teases Runtime of ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’

This Christmas, Marvel Studios will debut its first-ever holiday special in the form of the aptly titled The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The project will be new territory for the production company, which has previously stuck to making feature films, television shows, and short films called “One-Shots”. As such, many fans have found themselves in the dark on just how long the Holiday Special will be.

Debates have been raging as to whether the final runtime will match a series episode or be closer to the aforementioned short films. Luckily, director James Gunn has opened up about the topic on Twitter, revealing the special will be about the same length as the traditional programs that have come before it.

    https://twitter.com/jamesgunn/status/1507537666656686085?s=21

While he doesn’t give the exact runtime, Gunn’s comments about the Holiday Special being “TV Special length” would seem to confirm it being somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour-long. Old fashioned animated specials like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving have been at the half-hour range, while live-action projects like the Star Wars Holiday Special have clocked in at around an hour and a half. This means, at the very least, fans can expect the special to be longer than a One-Shot, and probably closer in length to an episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

For anyone thinking ahead, this could also be a good indication of how long Michael Giacchino’s rumored Halloween Special will last upon its completion as well. It seems Marvel plans to make holiday-themed specials a recurring concept going forward, and Gunn’s wintery extravaganza will likely set the standard later this year.

  • ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Will Introduce Multiple New Characters to the MCU

‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Will Introduce Multiple New Characters to the MCU

We have quite a few exciting MCU projects on the horizon that will continue to expand the franchise in creative ways. Not only that, but they are also starting to try out new expansions such as a Halloween and Christmas special later this year. While both are currently filming, Gunn has recently offered a few teases of what’s to come. He also shared a few details on Twitter as a follow-up, he teased what we can expect from the project such as that the upcoming Disney+ Holiday special will introduce not just one but multiple new MCU characters.

    https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1507546334387126274

Of course, this opens up a lot of potential questions on who we might expect. As it is a Christmas special, we have jokingly wondered if we’ll see the MCU’s incarnation of Santa Clause. In the comics, he’s an actual character that exists. If Khonshu is a real being so why couldn’t old Saint Nick also make an appearance? Plus, he may be the first MCU-based mutant to get introduced into the franchise. If we exclude the upcoming appearance of Patrick Stewart‘s Xavier who was briefly teased in the last Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer.

The most difficult connection to make is if the story is going to remain in space or be earth-based. Star-Lord making his way back home to visit his family would be a nice way to bring a Christmas story together, as he also faces his own family. With the upcoming Vol. 3 teased as the final entry for the team, or at least its current roster, there’s a chance that this might be his only chance to also make up for running away. We briefly saw his grandfather appear in the second entry. It would be nice for him to face his family and maybe even visit his mother’s grave after the events of the last film. He was already on Earth with the battle against Thanos. So, it’s time to face his demons in the holiday spirits.

  • James Gunn Confirms ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Will Release This Christmas

James Gunn Confirms ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Will Release This Christmas

When Disney+ and Marvel Studios teased their line-up for 2022, there were some interesting projects missing. We still never got an official announcement for the untitled Werewolf by Night project even though it has already started production. And, there was no mention of if The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which James Gunn is going to direct while working on the third entry of the franchise, would release later this year.

Luckily, Gunn not only tased how “ridiculous” his take on a Holiday Special is going to be but also confirmed that we can definitely expect it to release this Christmas. His full quote is as follows:

It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it. And it’s out pretty soon. You know, it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.

    James Gunn

He even calls the project the “greatest thing I’ve ever done” which sounds quite promising after his success with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. It’ll be interesting to see how it might not only connect into the third entry but also just how crazy he was able to make the story. Seems like Marvel Studios gave him complete free control and it wouldn’t be too surprising to even see the MCU’s version of Santa Clause make an appearance at some point in the special.

  • First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Pom Klementieff and Dave Bautista

First ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Pom Klementieff and Dave Bautista

It looks like we finally got a look at the returning Guardians from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While we don’t see anything of the actual set, we do get a look at Pom Klementieff‘s return as Mantis and Dave Bautista‘s Drax. We don’t get a good look at Mantis’ design for the threequel, but it looks like Drax has finally accepted that he should wear a jacket. Of course, it could just be something he is wearing on his way to the set, but who knows what kind of trouble they are getting into that he’ll take the risk and put it on.

    https://twitter.com/guardiansupdate/status/1504923133584814080

There have been a lot of hints that the Guardians as we know it will disband after the events of this film, especially with it being James Gunn swansong in the MCU before focusing more on his DC projects. We know very little about what the future has in store for this team, or even if any of these characters will exit the film alive. Bautista has also kind of hinted at his interest in moving on after the next film, even if he seemed to enjoy his time with Marvel. It’s not uncommon that some of the actors are open to leaving the franchise behind after enough time.

There’s sadly not much to take away from these photos, but it’s great to know that production is still underway. Gunn has been cheekily sharing teases of Rick and Morty figurines showing up on his workspace. It almost seemed like he’s building up to something, but has been mostly just having fun sharing the fact that he’s still busy working on the film. He’s always been one of the more active users of Social media and we’ll see if he’ll share something from the set.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Game Did Not Meet Square-Enix’s Sales Expectations

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Game Did Not Meet Square-Enix’s Sales Expectations

Well, this story sounds familiar. Square-Enix has revealed in its earnings report that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos Montréal has fallen short of its sales expectations. Some might recall, there was a similar issue with the launch of Marvel’s Avengers back in 2019. There’s a curious trend with Square’s Western produced releases facing some curious sales issues, especially if you look back to the Tomb Raider franchise that is now under their Western production houses.

Also, similar to with Avengers back in the day, they are positive that the game will manage to make up for its low early sales at a later point. IT’s only drawback is that it isn’t a Games-as-a-Service model, which helped support Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel venture to continue growing since its initial launch. The report, as shared by VG Chartz is as followed:

The HD Games sub-segment launched Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in Q3. Despite strong reviews, the game’s sales on launch undershot our initial expectations. However, sales initiatives that we kicked off in November 2021 and continued into the new year have resulted in sales growth, and we intend to work to continue to expand sales to make up for the title’s slow start.

Sadly, it really seems like Square-Enix has a problem marketing its projects effectively, especially when it comes to their Western productions. They are still synonymous with Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and so much more. Yet, one of the biggest brands in the world is struggling under their umbrella while Insomniac’s games seem to strive. Of course, Spider-Man is a very different beast from a marketing standpoint but it is still curious. There’s also the issue that Square constantly overpredicts its sales, as in 2013 alone three of their Western productions sold far below their expectations. We’ll see if we hear more and get an announcement on a potential sequel in the near future.

  • Vin Diesel Started Recording His Groot Lines for an Upcoming MCU Project

Vin Diesel Started Recording His Groot Lines for an Upcoming MCU Project

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently busy filming, as James Gunn returns to finish the trilogy he started back in 2014. The story will see the ragtag team continue on their quest after whatever may happen between them and Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. We still don’t know what the future has in store for this intergalactic team, but we know we’ll be getting a lot more of Groot. Vin Diesel has shared his excitement on exactly that as he shared a video on his Instagram as he returns to record voicing the character.

Curiously, he didn’t confirm what project this recording is for, as there are currently four projects that we can expect to see Groot return. The before-mentioned Love and Thunder, the animated I Am Groot Disney+ series, the third Guardians film, and its Holiday Special. It wouldn’t be surprising if he is recording all the projects in one sitting, especially as the next Thor entry won’t release until July. Plus, the animated series is confirmed to release this year.

It’s sweet he is sharing the video not only highlighting that he started recording for the character, but also giving a shoutout to his history of recording the voices of characters that say very little, like his time on The Iron Giant. It’s strange to think that he ended up tackling a similar role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which still opens up the possibility for him to join a project in a different capacity at some point in the future. Yet, it’s hard to beat just how iconic he made Groot since he first appeared in 2014.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Chukwudi Iwuji Teases His “Powerful” and “Complex” Character

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Chukwudi Iwuji Teases His “Powerful” and “Complex” Character

It’s James Gunn‘s world and we’re just living in it. The director has been making headlines with one hit project after another, as he directly followed up his work on The Suicide Squad with a spinoff on the character of Peacemaker, as played by John Cena. All that was just the warm-up, as he already jumped straight to directing his third – and likely final – Guardians of the Galaxy film. In it, a familiar face from his latest HBO Max series will make a return, Chukwudi Iwuji.

Iwuji‘s involvement was first confirmed in a photo from the set back in November, and it’s still unclear who exactly he is playing – even if there are quite a few rumors offering a hint at who exactly that might turn out to be. That hasn’t stopped the actor from teasing the role in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, as he believes his character might be “the most complex character” we’ve seen yet in the MCU. His full quote:

Powerful. Extremely powerful. Complex. James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex character we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it

    Chukwudi Iwuji

It’s quite something to tease and Gunn is known for his talent of bringing complex characters to life on the silver screen. Iwuji‘s wording of “powerful” would add to the possibility of him playing a villain. Most of the MCU’s villains have been rather one-note, but that has started to change with their latest projects. So, if he is indeed playing one, the tease would add a lot to the franchise’s rogue’s gallery.

  • James Gunn Teases a “Different” ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn Teases a “Different” ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Marvel Studios has quite a few exciting projects heading our way, but many are excited to see James Gunn finally get a chance to end his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. While the project has entered production at a later point than initially planned, we still get to see his vision come to life and continue the story of Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, and Groot across the MCU’s galaxy. It seems that the third entry may offer something quite unique.

In an interview with Collider, the director revealed that Marvel Studios has already seen some parts of the film and it seems they are quite happy, especially its CEO Kevin Feige. He also praises Chukwudi Iwuji‘s performance, who’ll have a larger role in the upcoming project, as teased by the project.

It’s going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I’m really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far.

    James Gunn

Some rumors believe that Iwuji might be playing the film’s main antagonist that is very likely the creator of Rocket, the High Evolutionary. He was revealed as part of the cast in a set photo from the production’s first day, and it’s great to see his performance receiving praise. We cannot wait to see what the third entry has to offer and what Gunn means with it being different.
