  • Viola Davis in Talks to Star in a ‘Peacemaker’ Spin-Off

Viola Davis in Talks to Star in a ‘Peacemaker’ Spin-Off

The DC Extended Universe saw its first venture into television with James Gunn‘s spin-off of The Suicide Squad with Peacemaker, featuring the return of John Cena as the titular character. Gunn revealed before the series had even wrapped on its first season that he was already developing another DC series although he would not go into details about what that series might be.

Deadline is reporting that the star of Suicide Squad and its sequel, Viola Davis, will reprise her role as Amanda Waller in an upcoming HBO Max series. She will also serve as an executive producer on the project alongside James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Christal Henry, who will write and serve as an executive producer on the series.

There are no plot details on the series just yet and all we know is that it will not be in the same vein as Peacemaker was, with Gunn previously stating his next spin-off “won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker“.

The series could follow the aftermath of Peacemaker, where Waller’s own daughter, Leota Adebayo, went on national television to expose ARGUS and bring Task Force X into the light. Effectively Adebayo put a target on her mother’s back and revealed everything from what happened in Midway City to the project Starfish in Corto Maltese.

There has been no other details plot or casting wise as the project still seems to be in early development but it could be cool to see them explore Checkmate or even the Secret Six with a project like this, with Waller acting as the mockingbird figure.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

The Batman is all the rage right now with the film just recently hitting HBO Max and crossing $750 million at the worldwide box office. So far, it’s one of the year’s biggest hits. In its first week the film quickly became HBO Max’s second-highest streamed film ever, and its most-streamed DC film, topping the likes of The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The road doesn’t end there, however, as we’re set to return to Gotham city exclusively on HBO Max much sooner than we originally thought.

HBO Max will bring us back to the world of The Batman will the upcoming limited series following Oswald Cobblepott as he rises to power in Gotham’s darkest hour and the death of Carmine Falcon, becoming The Penguin we’ve all come to love. It seems production on the show may begin a lot sooner than we anticipated as a listing has revealed that the series will start on June 15th in Los Angeles.

There has been no official word on this start date and a lot of details are still murky on the project. As it’s something that can also change, it’s unsure if they’ll stick with this production start. We have yet to get any new casting, as well as hear who may be directing this series or any specific episodes. This news comes just a few days after Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves took to the CinemaCon stage to announce that a sequel to The Batman is in development with Reeves returning to write and direct, with Robert Pattinson set to don the cape and cowl once again.

  • Johan Renck Boards ’Dune’ Prequel Series as Director

Johan Renck Boards ’Dune’ Prequel Series as Director

HBO Max’s Dune prequel series has set a director.

Johan Renck will direct the first two episodes of the Duneprequel series. The news comes courtesy of Variety, with the outlet reporting Renck will also serve as an executive producer on the project. The current title of the series is Dune: The Sisterhood, although the title does not seem to be set in stone. Denis Villeneuve was previously attached to direct the pilot for the series, however, as he’s busy with the second Dune film, he’s had to step down.

The events of Dune: The Sisterhood take place approximately 10,000 years prior to the events of Dune. It focuses on the Harkonnen sisters as they “combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.” Dune, of course, proved to be a massive success for Warner Bros. upon release last year. Despite being released day and date on HBO Max, the film went on to earn $400 million at the worldwide box office.

This is not Renck’s first time working with HBO. He previously worked on the critical darling, Chernobyl, where he directed the entire series and served as an executive producer. His work on that series earned him an Emmy in the Best Directing for a Limited Series category. Prior to Chernobyl, Renck also helmed episodes of The Walking DeadBreaking Bad, and Vikings

Diane Ademu-John serves as the writer, showrunner and executive producer for Dune: The Sisterhood. As of now, no cast members have been announced.

  • ‘Harley Quinn’s Kite-Man Spinoff Officially Ordered to Series

‘Harley Quinn’s Kite-Man Spinoff Officially Ordered to Series

HBO Max is all-in with the upcoming Harley Quinn spinoff focused on the loveable “Hell Yeah” shouter, Kite Man. Titled Noonan’s, the series focuses on his time owning a bar and the many patrons that visit it from the DC Universe. Co-Creator of the original series Dean Lorey will act as the series showrunner. Suzanna Makkos, the executive Vice President of Original Comedy and Adult Animation for HBO Max and Adult Swim, shared their excitement for the spinoff.

We love the wild and fun world of ‘Harley Quinn’ so much we just had to make a spin-off and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man. Justin, Patrick, and Dean have created the perfect local hangout for Gotham City’s not-so-finest at Noonan’s, where bar patrons can blow off steam after a long day of mayhem

The project’s name may potentially change, but it’s great to see the fan-favorite character get his own spinoff out of Harley Quinn. The show took a hard R-rating to explore the DC universe in a unique way. It’s become quite the favorite with those that hoped to see their favorite characters cursing up a storm, and it never minced its words on what it’s about.

Kite-Man is a perfect straight man. So, whatever other villain or hero shows up at his bar may perfectly bounce off of his “Hell Yeah” attitude. We also don’t know if it might even tie into the main series, as it’s busy preparing for the release of its third season.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery Reportedly Considering a Theatrical Release for ‘Batgirl’ After All

Warner Bros. Discovery Reportedly Considering a Theatrical Release for ‘Batgirl’ After All

The DC Extended Universe is in a bit of a workshop period, as the shared universe is reportedly getting an overhaul in the near future. It’s certainly a fitting timing given that The Flash will reportedly set the DCEU on a new path and see a new timeline with Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne now replacing Ben Affleck‘s version in this new universe. Along with Keaton comes a new Batgirl, one that many fans are excited to see. New reports may hint that we could possibly catch the film on the big screen after all.

Puck is reporting that Warner Brothers Discovery is debating whether or not Batgirl should go theatrical. The film is currently set to be an HBO Max exclusive film as the company looks to strengthen its streaming content. The recent success of The Batman looks to be influencing this decision as it dominates on HBO Max after pulling in over $750 million in total at the box office.

This would not be a decision that’s out of the ordinary as Warner Brothers made a similar move last summer with another DC film. Originally announced as an HBO Max exclusive film, Angel Manuel Soto‘s Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters in August of 2023. It was an exciting announcement as it also moves away from relegating smaller projects to streaming-only releases.

This would definitely be a decision that would delight a lot of fans similar to what happened to Blue Beetle. The film has the star power to carry a theatrical release and draw the crowds with Leslie Grace, Keaton, and the possible big-screen return of Brendan Fraser. The film could make for the perfect Holiday 2023 release as it is set during Christmas and Warner Brothers Discovery currently has no DC films dated following the release of Blue Beetle in august.

  • RUMOR: Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù In Talks To Play John Constantine

RUMOR: Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù In Talks To Play John Constantine

The DC Extended Universe looks to be branching out into the supernatural side of the mythos with J.J. Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot leading the charge. A few years ago, it was announced that Abrams and company would be developing several of DC’s Justice League Dark characters through several projects such as Zatanna, Madame X and Constantine.

Over the past week, news on the Constantine project has begun filtering out and it seems it will be the first to get rolling, which means they need a John Constantine. The Illuminerdi is reporting that british-Nigerian actor Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù, best known for his work on Gangs of New York and His House, is in talks to star as the and occult detective. Should he land the role,Dìrísù will be the third actor to wear the trench coat, following in the footsteps of Keanu Reeves and Matt Ryan.

The first story details on the project emerged just a few days ago, revealing that the series will see the streets of London filled with the supernatural, body horror, and urban action. It will see Constantine’s whole word changed when he meets a young girl that pulls him into the dark world of the occult. The series is currently casting for this girl, only known as “Akara” who could be Astra Logue, a young girl Constantine tried to save but failed, causing her to be damned to hell by the demon Nergal.

We will continue to track this developing project.

  • Matt Reeves Confirms Newly Spotted Riddler Easter Egg

Matt Reeves Confirms Newly Spotted Riddler Easter Egg

The Batman has found its way to HBO Max and with it, eagle-eyed fans have been on the hunt for any possible Easter egg they may have potentially missed out on while watching it in theaters. One that stood out is that people noticed that Paul Dano‘s Riddler can be spotted living opposite the Iceberg Lunge at the half-hour mark. Considering the ending, this would be quite the giveaway if people noticed early but it’s hard to truly make out.

Luckily, director Matt Reeves took to Twitter to confirm that this is in fact Riddler in that apartment. It sticks out that it’s the only room highlighted with someone looking out the window. The fact the film includes hints at some later revelations is a great eye for detail from the director and his creative team.

ho knows what other hints and secrets the film is hiding. The Riddler has not only left a lot of clues for Bruce Wayne, but it seems Reeves did the same with his movie. So, with its arrival on HBO Max, we’ll surely see what other secrets might find their way online now that they can easily skim it for any detail possible.

  • First Story Details for HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Reboot

First Story Details for HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Reboot

J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot made quite the deal with HBO as the production company was able to make an exclusive deal for three projects, which includes a Stephen King-inspired story called Overlook and Duster. Yet, the biggest surprise was that they are also adopting an iconic Justice League Dark member. It wasn’t until February of this year that we uncovered it was going to be about Constantine with UK writer Guy Bolton attached to write the series. Now, the first details have found their way online.

The 8-episode series is set to combine elements of body horror, supernatural and urban action in the streets of London. They are currently casting a character by the name of “Akara” who is a young 10-year-old Cambodian and will be the heart of the story. She’ll be cast alongside her grandfather “Pich.” A sudden encounter with the girl will throw the life of John Constantine upside down, as he falls down a rabbit hole of dangerous encounters and the occult. As these characters are cast under fake names, Akara could end up being Astra Logue from the Hellblazer comics.

The project is currently being cast under the working title “Blood Work” and, as mentioned by Illuminerdi, will start production later this year in the Fall. They shared that the production would work under the title “Chimney” as a cute callback to the character’s smoking habits. It’ll run until February of 2023, as it aims to shoot in London and Morocco. There’s still no word yet on who will take on the role of John Constantine, as Bad Robot has been actively looking to fill the role and is open to diverse casting.

It isn’t the first adaptation of the popular Hellblazer comics, as 2014 saw a one-season adaptation by NBC with Matt Ryan in the titular role. The series was simply titled Constantine but didn’t manage to land a second season renewal. Yet, Ryan’s portrayal was met with a lot of fanfare, which led to him joining CW’s Arrowverse, where he became a member of the Legends of Tomorrow series. It’s unclear if this new adaptation for HBO Max will become part of the bigger DC Extended Universe, or remain a self-contained story.

  • KJ Apa and Isabel May to Become HBO Max’s Wonder Twins

KJ Apa and Isabel May to Become HBO Max’s Wonder Twins

It looks like HBO Max’s adaptation of the Wonder Twins is moving forward fast, as The Wrap has just reported that they may have already found their Zan and Jayna. Adam Sztykiel is writing and directing the project directly after his work on another DCEU project, Black Adam. It seems he and his team are currently eyeing Riverdale‘s KJ Apa and 1883’s Isabel May to take on the titular role of the twins.

If you’re wondering who exactly are the Wonder Twins and what are their powers. The twins Zan and Janya are alien twins that first appeared in the animated series The All-New Super Friends Hour. They went on to become quite popular and joined the comics later down the road. Each one has a unique ability that they can only activate when they connect their hands. Jayna can become any animal while Zan turns into the water of any state.

They even had a pet monkey called Gleek, but it’s unclear if the series will also introduce their primate companion. The twins actually made their live-action debut in CW’s Smallville series and also recently appeared in the animated Teen Titans Go! series. Not much is known about the project, but it certainly looks like HBO max and DC are hoping to activate their powers soon.

  • Leslie Grace Shares Her Excitement Working With Brendan Fraser on ‘Batgirl’ Set

Leslie Grace Shares Her Excitement Working With Brendan Fraser on ‘Batgirl’ Set

Brendan Fraser has found himself a home within the DC Universe. The beloved actor made his big return a few years back as Cliff Steele, better known as Robotman, in Doom Patrol, lending his voice to the character and sometimes appearing as the race car driver. Fraser is set to appear in yet another corner of the DC Multiverse, playing Firefly in the DC Extended Universe and we couldn’t be more than thrilled.

In an interview with Variety, Batgirl star Leslie Grace talked about getting to work with Fraser and just how crazy his role as Firefly is.

I had to summon up some things in me that I didn’t even know were there. It was an incredible learning experience to be on set with also action veterans like Brendan Fraser, and soak up it all up. It was so hard because he’s our villain and I’m not supposed to like but he’s such a huge teddy bear. He is one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met. In our fight sequences the way he would just hit marks, it came from all of his experience. You can’t improvise that kind of experience. There’s some crazy stuff that happens. There’s lots of fire because as everyone knows by now, he plays Firefly. There’s crazy fire. There’s crazy stunts, crazy drops. She’s a biker chick, so you’re going to see her do a bunch of badassery.

    Leslie Grace

It’ll be interesting to see if Firefly is alone, as he mostly plays the role of a silent enforcer to Killer Moth in Batgirl: Year One, the story by which the film seems to be heavily inspired. We can’t wait to see what kind of chaos Fraser causes as Firefly in Batgirl, but it’s mostly just exciting to see the actor back doing what he loves.
