Theory: Marvel Studios is Counting Down to a New ‘WANDAVISION’ Trailer

    Tick Tock.

There’s an interesting premise that’s called the “Rule of Three”. The rule of three states that the first time you see/say/do something, it’s known as an isolated incident. If it occurs a second time, then that’s known as a coincidence. But if it happens a third time, then it becomes a pattern. The rule of three can be applied to many things in life. But today we’re going to be applying that logic to Marvel Studios’ recent activity concerning WandaVision. Now on November 12th, Marvel revealed the release date for WandaVision with this teaser of the TVs shifting through the eras:

I had written up a piece about this trailer, breaking down its most important shots and details. So if you haven’t read up on that, check it out here. Now, Marvel Studios suspiciously started posting some content on Social Media recently. 2 days ago, they posted this poster, which is in turn, the last shot of the trailer they posted back in November.

Then the day after (yesterday), they posted a second poster.

Now a lot of people might not recognize the second poster but it was actually the second to last shot of the trailer, which is when the TV starts to go into static and the room starts to blend into another before going back to normal. Remember this shot?

(*NOTE: Now here’s where things get interesting and I put my name as Superhero Theorist to good use. I’m writing this part the night before it happens at 11:54 pm my time. But I wanted to write this in case it does happen. If Marvel Studios posts another poster today at 2:00 pm my time (1:00 pm EST), and it follows the pattern in my head, then the next poster should be the one in the 70s).

Present-day Superhero Theorist here and it turns out I was right. Marvel posted yet ANOTHER WandaVision poster today at exactly 2:00 pm my time, the one based on the 70s portion of the show.

Ok. But what does it mean?

Well, let’s start with the key points that make up this pattern. What do they have in common? Well:

    1. They’re all shots from the trailer Marvel posted back in November.
    2. They each belong to a particular era that will be explored in WandaVision. First with the 60s, then the 70s, and now the 80s.
    3. They’re going in progressive order from the trailer.

Now, that last point is very important. They’re posting shots from the trailer from each era, every day for the past three days at 2:00 pm EST. There’s a pattern, which means the next posters for the next 2 days are going to be the last remaining shots from the trailer. Specifically, the 80’s and modern eras trailer shots shown below.

But the most important part of all this is the progressivity of it all. It’s almost like they’re counting down to something as each day passes by. So, if we take into consideration the trailer from November, there are 6 key shots. And if it is a countdown, then each poster signifies a day in the countdown:

    1. The last shot [50’s] (posted on Friday)
    2. The glitch shot [60’s] (posted yesterday)
    3. The 70s shot (posted today)
    4. The 80s shot (might be posted tomorrow)
    5. The modern Halloween shot (might be posted on Tuesday)

So, if Marvel Studios is indeed doing a countdown as I predict it’s doing, then what happens when the trailer shots/posters run out? That’s where things start to align. They could post another poster on Wednesday outside of the scope of Wanda’s Imagination and we step out of the realm of sitcoms and into the realm of the MCU. Or they could post another trailer, the day before Disney’s Investor Day on Dec. 10th to hype up the fans and investors for what’s to come. The focus of that event will be “the Company’s direct-to-consumer streaming services” aka Disney+. Now whether or not we will get another look at WandaVision before, or during Investor Day remains to be seen, though I find it hard to believe that Marvel posting these would be a coincidence. One way or another, I’m certain that we’re bound to get a new look at WandaVision soon.

Official Plot Synopsis: Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, “WandaVision” is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The show features the return of Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis & Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, as well as the introduction of new faces, such as Teyonah Parris as an adult Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as the nosey neighbor, Agnes.

  • New Set Video of Alaqua Cox’s Echo in ‘HAWKEYE’

New Set Video of Alaqua Cox’s Echo in ‘HAWKEYE’

The other day we were able to get the first look at Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez/Echo during a rehearsal and between takes of scenes for the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Hawkeye. Those videos showed Cox using sign language to communicate with crew members and the lead up to a scene involving her father, William, played by Zahn McLarnon.

This new video shows what we are told is one of the takes of the full scene. While we are fully aware that is doesn’t reveal much given that it is shot from behind the scene, it should still be pretty cool to see the scene in Hawkeye knowing you had a glimpse at it first!

  • FIRST LOOK: Clint Barton’s 70’s Era Muscle Car from the Set of “HAWKEYE”

FIRST LOOK: Clint Barton’s 70’s Era Muscle Car from the Set of “HAWKEYE”

Filming on the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Hawkeye got underway in Brookly this week and, from what we’ve seen, it is evident that the show is heavily influenced by the Matt Fraction and David Aja run that began in 2012. While we’ve known this to be the case for some time now, I think the set photos we’ve seen so far may indicate a more direct visual adaptation than many fans were expecting and now we’ve got an exclusive first look at something else than fans of the run are sure to recognize even if it does look a bit different: Clint’s 70’s era muscle car!

Edward Baker was able to locate this 70’s Buick Gran Sport sneakily parked around the corner from where filming was taking place on Wednesday. During his time there, he also overheard the crew discussing how they had hoped to procure a more comic-accurate 70’s era Challenger, but ended up with this GS. So no, this isn’t just some car that happened to be parked on set and, to be honest, when I heard the scene that was being shot I asked Baker to snoop around and see if he could find a 70’s Challenger and moments later, he found this GS.

Clint’s car is part of one of the most exciting issues of Fraction’s run. In issue #3, Clint buys a 70’s Challenger from a woman he just met (and may have slept with) and then immediately proceeds to have it stolen by the tracksuit mafia, get it back by having Kate crash her car into it, and then demolish it over the course of a wild high-speed chase through NYC in which he manages to deploy pretty much every one of his “trick” arrows.

Should Marvel Studios plan to recreate this crazy car chase, it wouldn’t necessarily have to do so over the course of the next week, but that would certainly make things more NYC authentic. The car chase culminates on what I think is the George Washington Bridge (I’m not a New Yorker, I’m just guessing here!), so while the streets of Georgia could easily be used for a car chase, it would be hard to replicate the bridge. We’ll keep an eye out for you and see if they are in fact going for the big time car chase in the series.

UPDATE: David Aja has clarified it was in fact the GWB.

  • EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Alaqua Cox as Echo in ‘HAWKEYE’

EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Alaqua Cox as Echo in ‘HAWKEYE’

Earlier today, a trade report revealed that newcomer Alaqua Cox had joined the cast of Hawkeye as Maya Lopez, aka Echo. Thanks to Edward Baker, who was able to capture the first footage of Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, we now have our first look at Cox on set.

In the videos below, Cox can be seen communicating using sign language and rehearsing her scene. In the videos, we see Echo exit a taxi and head towards an apartment. It appears that this apartment is the home of her father, William Lopez, as Zahn McLarnon was also on set this evening.

Hawkeye is now filming in Brooklyn and will stream on Disney Plus

  • Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton and More Join ‘HAWKEYE’

Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton and More Join ‘HAWKEYE’

After the casting of Hailee Steinfeld was confirmed yesterday by our exclusive set video, Disney wasted no time in announcing 6 more members of the streaming series, Hawkeye, currently filming in Brooklyn. The Marvel Studios series has added the following actors and actresses to the cast:

    • Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, the mother of Kate
    • Tony Dalton as Jack Duquense, the mentor of Hawkeye and former Avenger known as the Swordsman
    • Fra Fee as the Clown, aka Kazimierz Kazimierczak
    • Florence Pugh who will reprise her role as Yelena Belova
    • Newcomer Alaqua Cox who will portray Maya Lopez/Echo, a role we first reported here
    • Zahn McLarnon as William Lopez, Echo’s father known in the comics as Crazy Horse

The Oscar-nominated Farmiga lands an interesting role as Eleanor Bishop. While her early origins show that her father, Derek, was into some bad business, her mother was later revealed to be a part of the West Coast Masters of Evil. Dalton’s Duquesne is a character we have long-expected to be cast and talked about at length here. Fee lands the villain’s role as the Clown, a role rumored to be going to Bill Skarsgaard at one point. Pugh was recently rumored to be returning to the role of Belova and, it appears, that Marvel Studios wasn’t too worried about spoiling the fate of her character after all. Cox’s Echo will be a deaf character who, true to her comic origins, is said to be able to mimic her opponents’ fighting styles. It will be interesting to see how Marvel Studios adapts Crazy Horse as in the comics it was his death at the hands of the Kingpin that lead to his daughter, Maya, being raised by the big man.

Hawkeye is now filming and will stream on Disney Plus when they are good and ready to show us!

  • Olivia Wilde Should Cast Aubrey Plaza as Spider-Woman

Olivia Wilde Should Cast Aubrey Plaza as Spider-Woman

Looks like Aubrey Plaza is at a career-high. She was a standout in Hulu’s Happiest Season. Her next film, Lawrence Levine’s Black Bear, is scheduled to release on December 4th after receiving rave reviews at 2020’s Sundance Film Festival. Now, the news broke that she is also joining Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming thriller Five Eyes. Now, we started to wonder if we might see her join another superhero-based franchise in the near future. She has openly talked bout her interest in playing She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She-Hulk? Oh my god, I would love to be She-Hulk. Because I had super-strength? Yes, I want to be She-Hulk. Write that movie and I’ll do it. I would love to be any kind of superhero or person with super-strength.

Well, the role went to Tatiana Maslany but that doesn’t mean there is still a chance for her to get a role. Now, there are many great roles she could take on, especially with her interest in a character, who has super-strength. Actually, isn’t there one more Marvel property looking for a female superhero? One that already has an amazing director signed on? I think there is even a rumor that while it being a separate company it will have Marvel Studios’ involvement? Oh yeah, Olivia Wilde‘s Spider-Woman is currently in some form of production. The story of Jessica Drew, a former HYDRA agent who is trying to find her place in the world after realizing her memories were manipulated.

Now, we have no idea which story arc the upcoming film will be inspired by. She was part of HYDRA, she had a private detective agency, she got replaced by the Skrull Queen, and just recently had a kid. That last storyline especially redefined her character after a controversial image was released that oversexualized her. It gave her a truly unique story arc. We got a sassy mother-to-be trying to juggle her life and her friendship with Carol Danvers. Aubrey Plaza is no stranger to playing a mother figure, as she took on that role in the Child’s Play remake. Her time on NBC’s Parks and Recreation showcased her snark that would be perfect for a hero, who has probably gone through anything one can think of in a superhero world.

Plus, if Kevin Feige is involved with the project, we could see her play off of Brie Larson and join other heroes in the wider MCU. She would be a great addition and we could even get a joke when she meets Maslany‘s She-Hulk. Plaza can bring in a unique charm that could play on Spider-Woman’s unique experiences. The character exists solely to ensure the copyright to any variation of Spider-related characters but received some of the most unique storylines out there. Here’s hoping that Wilde makes use of the characters’ unique history and listens to this random writer fan-casting her film’s lead.

  • Another ‘Hawkeye’ BTS Video Offers a Closer Look at Hailee Steinfeld

Another ‘Hawkeye’ BTS Video Offers a Closer Look at Hailee Steinfeld

Just today, we finally got a great look at Hawkeye‘s brand new set. They were filming a sequence in the subway, which showcased Clint, Kate, and everyone’s favorite dog, Lucky. It was a tad bit blurry, but it finally confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld joined the cast as Kate Bishop. It is crazy to think that it still has never been officially announced, but after these videos made it online, we are sure to get that statement sooner rather than later. Luckily, once one video is out, more are sure to follow, and it looks like @HSteinfeldNews got an even better look at the sequence that is taking place in the subway.

    https://twitter.com/HSteinfeldNews/status/1334235622958096384?s=20

That close up pretty much confirms it is her. It is also great seeing her run around with the bow in her hand. Also, if you look closely, the shirt she is wearing under her mantle is her iconic purple as well. It seems they are on the run. They certainly seem impatient about jumping on that subway, or Jeremy Renner is just freezing. Also, it looks like Lucky will be part of the action. Perhaps he is on the hunt for some pizza. We’ll see how this all fits together once the show releases, but it’ll be interesting where else they might be filming.

It’s crazy seeing some of these BTS sequences. After a year filled with delays and cancellations, it is good to know that they are still hard at work on future shows. We will see if we can get more shots from the set as they continue to film in NYC. She-Hulk and Moon Knight are going to start production in the coming months. So, we might get some glimpses from that as well. Now, if only we could already watch WandaVision.

  • EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

Earlier today we shared a nice set photo of Lucky the Pizza Dog from the set of Hawkeye. Now, we are lucky enough to bring you set video of what should be the first look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop!

A video from the subway set in Brooklyn, taken by fan Edward Baker, shows Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton, Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and Lucky running down the stairs and through the subway. Baker confirmed for us that the actress in the video was Steinfeld, who was seen around set during the day.

Steinfeld was said to be in talks for the role of Bishop, one that is expected to serve as the face of Disney Plus for the next few years, in September of last year. Rumors have swirled since then about why she hadn’t been confirmed and if Marvel Studios had gone in another direction. Her contract with Apple TV seemed to be a sticking point, but it seems now that the COVID-related delay in production on Hawkeye may have smoothed that road out bit. Steinfeld is our Kate Bishop!

  • RUMOR: Florence Pugh to Return as Yelena Belova in ‘Hawkeye’ Series

RUMOR: Florence Pugh to Return as Yelena Belova in ‘Hawkeye’ Series

So, here is an interesting surprise. We are only a few days away before Hawkeye finally starts filming. We are still waiting for an official word on who might be playing Kate Bishop with Hailee Steinfeld still the biggest contender for the role. The story would be strongly inspired by Matt Fraction‘s run on the character. It was still uncertain what other characters we could see make a return from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, it looks like one important character that has yet been introduced will appear in the series after making her film debut. According to The Direct, Florence Pugh will return as Yelena Belova at one point in the series.

That is not all, as they also state that she will don a Ronin-inspired costume. Now, this is interesting for multiple reasons. We saw Clint Barton wear the iconic suit during Avengers: Endgame, as he killed various Yakuza, which was teased to haunt him in this series. We also had the rumors of Echo making an appearance, who had also donned the suit at one point in the comics. The mantle was worn by various characters but this is the first time that it is connected to Yelena. We believed that she would carry on the mantle of Black Widow once she makes her debut in the upcoming film, but it looks like her journey won’t be an easy one.

There is also the question of how her story will lead to the Disney+ series. We got a short teaser of her on a desk during the Black Widow trailer, so maybe she gets mind controlled and ends up in a similar situation to the Winter Soldier. Yet, there is a time difference between the film and the Disney+ series that opens up so many questions. There is a chance that she has met with Clint during his time as Ronin, who may have passed not he mantle to her rather than Echo. It’ll be interesting to see how it all connects once the show finally airs. Now, we just need to find out who is playing Kate Bishop.

  • ‘WANDAVISION’ Merch Provides First Look at Monica Rambeau as Spectrum

‘WANDAVISION’ Merch Provides First Look at Monica Rambeau as Spectrum

Another day, another merch leak that gives us a look at an MCU superhero! This time, courtesy of Captain Marvel News, we have our first look at Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau in what most certainly appears to be her “Spectrum suit.

Parris is playing the grown up version of the character we first met in Captain Marvel and her brief appearance in the WandaVision trailer indicates she’s going to find herself forcibly removed from Wanda’s bubble reality of Westview. Could this be the event that leads to Monica somehow gaining powers somewhat similar to her comic book counterpart? The 616 version of Monica got some pretty serious powers after being near an explosion and took on mantle of Captain Marvel (among many others) over the years. We know that in the MCU, Monica is working for SWORD and while the black and white color scheme lines up nicely with her comic book counterpart, it also looks like she may be sporting a SWORD logo on the neck area of her shirt. We’ll have to wait just a bit longer to see how it all plays out, but this is certainly a nice nod to Monica’s comic book past and, hopefully, her MCU future.
