  • Natalie Portman Hints at Jane Foster’s Battle with Cancer in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Natalie Portman Hints at Jane Foster’s Battle with Cancer in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

When Natalie Portman came to Hall H at 2019’s SDCC, it was revealed that the actress would be wielding Mjolnir in her return to the MCU. Thor: Love and Thunder will adapt Jason Aaron’s acclaimed comic run that saw Jane Foster battle frost giants as the Mighty Thor while battling cancer.

While it’s been pretty clear for a while that the MCU version of Jane will also be fighting cancer, Portman has all but confirmed it in an interview with Disney’s D23 magazine. The actress explained that it was the potential to deal with the duality of The Mighty Thor that brought her back to the MCU:

What Thor doesn’t know is that Jane is secretly struggling with a terrible hardship-something she’s able to conceal so long as she’s wielding Mjölnir. Portman was intrigued by the prospect of playing someone who is as weak as she is strong, depending on her circumstance.

A trip to New Asgard in Thor: Love and Thunder (one that was captured in some leaked set photos) looks to be the impetus for Jane’s transformation into the Mighty Thor in the MCU. How her battle with cancer will work its way into the plot of the film remains to be seen, as does whether or not her character will win that battle and continue on in the MCU.

  • Christian Bale’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Performance Described as “Terrifying” and “Fascinatng”

Christian Bale’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Performance Described as “Terrifying” and “Fascinatng”

The most recent trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder provided the first look at the film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher, brought to life by two-time Oscar winner Christian Bale. Much has been made about the drastic changes to the character’s appearance, but Bale certainly gave off some chilling vibes in his short time in the trailer. According to co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, it sounds like the trailer is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes.

In an interview with Disney’s D23 magazine, Hemsworth discussed the stark contrast between Bale’s performance and the vibe typically associated with a Taika Waititi production:

The rest of us would be in our world of improvisation, comedy, and fun – then he’d walk on set, and we’d all look at each other and say ‘Oh, my God! This is really intense. This is really scary.

    Chris Hemsworth

Thompson backed up Hemsworth’s take, adding that the actor was able to balance the terrifying intensity with the vibrant world in which the film takes place.

(Bale) toed this really great line, because he needs to be terrifying, but he also needs to work in the context of our colorful, snappy, irreverent world.

    Tessa Thompson

Perhaps the high praise for Bale’s performance from Hemsworth and Thompson will keep the critics at bay until audiences get a chance to see just how it all comes together. Hemsworth says the film is intended to “surprise, impress and disorientate” fans, assuring that Waititi “masterfully” accomplished that.

  • Ghostbusters Day: ‘Afterlife’ Sequel Title, New Comic and Animated Movie Announced

Ghostbusters Day: ‘Afterlife’ Sequel Title, New Comic and Animated Movie Announced

As part of Ghostbusters Day, Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman announced the “code name” for the sequel to his 2021 film. The sequel, which will seemingly pick up right where Afterlife left off, is in development under the working title “Firehouse.”

Reitman’s return to the franchise his late father, Ivan Reitman, began in the 80s comes as no surprise. Recently, Sony chairman Tom Rothman indicated the company’s interest in continuing to develop the franchise following the moderate success of Afterlife, which made just around $200M at the box office, with about two-thirds of that coming from U.S. audiences. While no plot details were released, the post-credit scene for Afterlife saw original Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore return to the firehouse that served as headquarters for the original team. “Firehouse” looks sure to capitalize on that nostalgia and continue the story of the Spengler legacy.

In addition to “Firehouse”, an in-universe limited comic series from Dark Horse Comics and an animated movie were also announced. Jennifer Kluska, who recently directed the fourth installment of the animated Hotel Transylvania franchise, will co-helm the animated film with Chris Prynoski (Motorcity).

  • Zack Snyder Shares First Look at Anthony Hopkins’ ‘Rebel Moon’ Character

Zack Snyder Shares First Look at Anthony Hopkins’ ‘Rebel Moon’ Character

Geeked Week continues to offer some fun details and looks at what the future of Netflix has in store for viewers. Earlier today, we learned that Anthony Hopkins is going to play Jimmy, who is a sentient JC1435 battle robot in Zack Snyder‘s upcoming sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon. It’s a great casting addition but we didn’t get a good look at what the actor may look like. Luckily, Snyder didn’t waste any time showcasing his design on Twitter shortly after.

At first, we assumed that he may only be voicing a robot but the design does look more humanoid than expected. So, there might be a chance that he got to play the character on set. Of course, there are no confirmations on how Jimmy was brought to life in the upcoming film, but it’s great that he didn’t waste any time offering a first look at the character.

We’ll see if we potentially et other casting reveals alongside a first look at the character. The cast already sounds quite promising and Snyder has his own way of bringing many actors together to create some visually stunning pictures. So, it’s surprising that it took him this long to do a sci-fi film considering the visual palette it offers for him to bring to life.

  • ‘Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani Teases ‘The Marvel’s, Praises Director and Co-Stars

‘Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani Teases ‘The Marvel’s, Praises Director and Co-Stars

While Iman Vellani is busy promoting the new Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, she’s also set to join the big screen in the upcoming film The Marvels. She’ll join Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in a leading role, as they unite their forces against a common foe. We still know very little about the project, but it turns out that Vellani only found out moments before Disney Investor’s Day as revealed during an interview with Variety.

It was a night shoot when they were announcing everything at Disney Investor Day. Right before they announced “The Marvels” cast, I get a text from Disney PR, I get a text from Brie Larson and I get a text from our producers all at the same time saying I’m in the movie and then they announced it on the screen. I was like, “Thank you.” I had a hunch I was going to be in it, but more of a cameo role, not an actual main character, so it was cool.

    Iman Vellani

It definitely must’ve been quite the surprise when she thinks she’ll have a small role only to become a main member of the cast. Nia DaCosta is taking over directing duties for The Marvels and Vellani got the chance to praise the director for how she supported the actress during the shoot and even pushed her to improvise.

Nia DaCosta is my favorite human ever. I think she’s so talented and so caring and considerate. She’s very much an actor’s director. Like after she gets a take she wants, she’s like “This is yours. Do whatever you want. Anything we haven’t tried, just do it.” She would always give positive reinforcement, even if she didn’t have any notes. She’s be like “That little thing you did with your hand, I really liked that.” And I’m like, “Oh, wow. She noticed!” She really cares and checks up on you.

    Iman Vellani

That’s not all, as she also extends that praise to Larson and Parris, who both were seemingly quite supportive during her time on set. Of course, there’s the excitement of joining them in a film like this.

Brie and Teyonah are the same. Standing next to them, sharing a screen with them is so empowering. I didn’t want to be the one to continually just gush over them, so I had to hold back a little bit, because they took it very seriously, and I’m just like, “Oh my God, I’m in a movie.”

    Iman Vellani

It definitely sounds like it was quite the experience and we’ll see if the ending of Ms. Marvel potentially leads into the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out what the future has in store but it does sound like Vellani had a great time bringing the character to life in the Disney+ show and then carrying it over into her first film project.

  • Hayley Atwell Teases Her Future With the MCU Beyond ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Hayley Atwell Teases Her Future With the MCU Beyond ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Hayley Atwell has been a mainstay with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the first Captain America film. While she hasn’t had a major role in the films, she got her own TV show with two seasons and was a recurring character throughout the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Many were surprised when she returned as Captain Carter in the What If…? series only to also reappear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

During a panel at 2022’s Awesome Con, as shared by the Cosmic Circus, Hayley Atwell was asked about her future and highlighted her experience playing her and hopes to grow beyond just being “a minor player” within the MCU. Yet, in regards to her future, she could only share the following:

Well…I haven’t got news for you. But I share your enthusiasm. And I would love to if Marvel did find a home for her; that’s a home that feels worthy of her in terms of her evolution as a character and development as a character:

    Hayley Atwell

There have been rumors that Marvel Studios is considering a live-action Captain Carter project, but it has not been officially unveiled. Plus, it would be quite surprising for viewers that saw her death at the hand of Wanda Maximoff in the Doctor Strange sequel. The multiverse is vast but it could become a challenge if they start introducing characters that don’t exist within the main MCU timeline. Yet, it could also open up many new opportunities to tell stories they otherwise couldn’t.

  • GEEKED WEEK: Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Anthony Hopkins

GEEKED WEEK: Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Adds Anthony Hopkins

Zack Snyder has made himself a nice home over at Netflix. Not only was he able to create a new franchise based around zombies with Army of the Dead, but he’s also now taking a step beyond the stars. Geeked Week offered us a small tease of what’s to come, but that wasn’t all. Now, the all-star cast for Snyder‘s upcoming sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon, has once again added a new member to its cast. This time around, it looks like Anthony Hopkins will have a role in the film as revealed by the official Netflix Geeked account. the best part is they even announced who he will be playing.

According to the official Twitter account, he will be playing a sentient robot named JC1435, who once protected the slain king. So, we sadly won’t see Hopkins on-screen but get to enjoy his voice coming out of the robot. It does look like we’ll have to wait a bit until we get a good look at how JC1435 looks like, but the first teases of Rebel Moon have been quite promising so far.

Snyder has big plans for the new sci-fi series, as he aims to roll it out not only as a singular film but plans to build a franchise around it. Netflix’s new model has been quite strong in trying to bank on the success of these projects to establish franchises that aren’t dependent on a specific medium either. Even The Witcher got an anime spinoff and has a live-action one on the horizon. So, we’ll see just how big this franchise ends up.

  • Producer Hiram Garcia on How ‘Black Adam’ Connects to the Larger DCEU

Producer Hiram Garcia on How ‘Black Adam’ Connects to the Larger DCEU

Dwayne Johnson’s decade long investment into getting Black Adam on the big screen will finally pay off this fall when the character’s solo film debuts on October 21st. Initially set to be introduced in Shazam!, Johnson fought hard to make sure both heroes got their time to shine. As a result, the character’s first appearance in the DCEU comes when the idea of powered heroes is already well-established in-universe.

With such things already established, the creative team behind Black Adam had their work cut out for them when deciding how to introduce someone like Teth-Adam whose powers, as seen in the trailer, are sure to catch the attention of Earth’s other heroes. In an interview with Screen Rant, producer Hiram Garcia discussed how the team approached it and built it into the fabric of the film.

And for us, you’ll feel the effects in our world. We know that those guys exist. There’s even conversations where he’s told that there’s other heroes out there, but he’s very specific to the kind of hero he is. We like the idea of knowing that he has now been put into this world, and he’s kind of a disruption, because they’re not used to having a person that powerful be that much of a livewire. They can’t figure out how to control him.

    Hiram Garcia

As the trailer indicates, some of the first heroes Adam will come into contact with are Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Cyclone, members of the JSA who are all pretty powerful in their own right. How those interactions with the Man in Black, who isn’t known for playing well with others, remains to be seen, but we know one thing: the hierarchy of power in the DCEU is about to change.

  • ‘Black Adam’ Unaffected by DCEU Changes

‘Black Adam’ Unaffected by DCEU Changes

It’s been a long road since Black Adam made its way to the silver screen but with a trailer finally confirming it’s just around the corner, we’re finally nearing the point of getting to see it ourselves. Of course, a lot has changed throughout the DC Extended Universe since the initial announcement yet it seems that has not affected the story that is being told by the film.

Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia highlights how the upcoming film pretty much plays within its own little pocket of the DCEU. As such, it wasn’t affected by any major changes that were happening behind or in front of the scenes.

Luckily, we didn’t [have to go back to the drawing board], because we’ve been functionally within our section. Basically, we knew the characters we had: we had Black Adam and JSA, and we were launching things attached to that. Our world has stayed very much intact, so even though there has been some changes, it hasn’t really affected us. That’s been a very fortunate thing. There’s been a lot going on, but we’ve been able to maintain our bubble and our lane. We continue to build it out.

    Hiram Garcia

They lucked out that they have the opportunity to introduce the Justice Society of America and aren’t dependent on the Justice League, who were affected the most by the changes. We still don’t know if he’ll eventually team up or face other heroes from across the DC Universe, especially with his close ties to Shazam but they may be keeping that in their back pocket until the film releases. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is also set to release this year, which may have some tie-in with Black Adam, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out.
