  • Chris Pine and Fellow Cast In Talks to Return, New ‘Star Trek’ Film Eyeing 2022 Production Start

Chris Pine and Fellow Cast In Talks to Return, New ‘Star Trek’ Film Eyeing 2022 Production Start

Against all odds, it seems Chris Pine and the rest of the 2009 Star Trek cast may come aboard for another mission. Deadline is reporting the Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement star and his shipmates are in talks to reprise their roles for the next Trek film, with a production start set for late 2022. Paramount’s reported intention is to bring back Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. Bones McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and John Cho as Sulu, alongside Pine‘s Captain James T. Kirk.

If everyone were to return, they’d join a production helmed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman and produced by original series director J.J. Abrams. The most recent draft of the script is being worked on by Josh Freidman and Cameron Squires, based on a draft by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Currently, all plot details are being kept a firm secret, but the film will likely continue the adventures established in the prior three installments. The past few years have seen the studio’s Star Trek plans in limbo, with potential projects from filmmakers Quintin Tarantino and Noah Hawley floating in the air after an initial attempt at a fourth film with the original cast fell apart. It was reported at the time that the franchise stalled due to conflict over pay cuts with the movie’s leading cast. Back then, the movie would have been directed by S.J. Clarkson, who went on to take a job leading Sony’s upcoming Madame Webb adaptation.

  • ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Already in Development Ahead of Sequel’s Release

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Already in Development Ahead of Sequel’s Release

It looks like Sonic’s big-screen adventures are here to stay. It’s being reported that Paramount Pictures and the Sega Corporation have begun active development on a third film in the franchise, tentatively titled Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The news comes before the upcoming sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, has even hit theaters and was revealed at the Viacom Investor Event alongside the reveal of a Knuckles spin-off series for Paramount+.

No plot details or casting information has been made available in regards to the threequel, as the project is obviously in its earliest stages of production. Although, it seems likely Ben Schwartz would return as the title character. Haruki Satomi, CEO of Sega Corporation, had the following to say about the announcement:

We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed…Sonic has been beloved by fans across the world for over 30 years and we look forward to continuing to bring memorable moments and experiences to them for many years to come.

    Haruki Satomi

The first Sonic film was a surprise success, dropping in theaters just before the start of the pandemic. It quickly became the top-grossing video game adaptation of all time, making $320 million at the worldwide box office. Sonic and his friends have always inspired a passionate fanbase, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Paramount continued to come up with projects for the characters in the future.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 races into theaters on April 8th.

  • Latest ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer Best Look Yet at Michael Keaton’s New Batman Suit

Latest ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer Best Look Yet at Michael Keaton’s New Batman Suit

A few days ago, we got the first look at Michael Keaton arriving on the set of Batgirl in his Batman costume. Sadly, it was a bit difficult to make out due to it being quite dark and far away. Luckily, it seems that some more photos have found their way online that offer a better look at his updated suit for the HBO Max film. You can check out the images provided by @JTsLeague right here:

The costume looks great and surprisingly similar to what he wore back in 1998. Even the headpiece seems to follow the same structure, but we won’t know for sure if he can finally tilt his neck until the film releases. There’s always the chance that the fabric being used can replicate the look but also offer some more functionality for Keaton while acting. It’s certainly no longer a rubber suit that needs to be ripped off of him so he can escape it. The biggest addition seems to be the shoulder pads that connect to the cape and the cowl. He did have some in the original but it’s way more pronounced this time around.

If you look closely, his logo has also been changed slightly. It seems closer to the one he had in the original film and not its sequel, which altered it slightly to be closer to the logo used on most of the promotional material. As we haven’t gotten a good look at his costume in The Flash, it’ll be interesting to see how much they may have changed or adapted between these films to keep his look fresh. No matter what, it looks great and hopefully we get an official look soon.

  • ‘A Christmas Story’ Sequel Adds 4 More Familiar Faces

‘A Christmas Story’ Sequel Adds 4 More Familiar Faces

The upcoming A Christmas Story sequel titled A Christmas Story Christmas – no joke – has added a few more familiar faces, as Zack Ward (Scut Farkus), Ian Petrella (Randy), Scott Schwartz (Flick), and R.D. Robb (Schwartz) have now joined the cast of the upcoming Christmas movie. They’ll continue the storyline quite a few years after the original as an adult Ralphie, played by the returning Peter Billingsley, tries to give his kids the same magical Christmas that he had all these years ago.

Nick Schenk wrote the project with Clay Kaytis attached to direct the film for Warner Bros. and Legendary. Vince Vaughn is also on board producing it through the Wild West Picture Productions alongside Billingsley. The returning cast highlight how the project aims to build up him reuniting with some old friends and coming to terms with the death of his father.

It’s noteworthy that this is Petrella‘s first film since he played Randy in the original. So, it’ll be more than just a reunion for the actor. Ward has appeared on the FOX series Titus and in the recent Survive The Game project. R.D. Robb has been focusing primarily on the producing side of the film industry and was involved with Freeform’s Siren. Schwartz went on to appear in The Toy, KIDCO, and in a recurring role on ABC’s The Goldbergs.

  • ‘The Batman’s Matt Reeves Want to Tackle a “Grounded” Take on Mr. Freeze

‘The Batman’s Matt Reeves Want to Tackle a “Grounded” Take on Mr. Freeze

We’re only a few more weeks away from The Batman finally releasing in theaters, but director Matt Reeves already has set his eyes on the future of the franchise. In his more grounded take of a noir-inspired storyline, it seemed like this cinematic franchise might move away from the usual fantastic elements we’ve seen in the comics. Looks like Reeves is definitely interested in taking a swing at some of the supernatural characters, as he reveals that Mr. Freeze might be on his radar in an interview with Collider.

So to me, it would be a challenge in an interesting way to try and figure out how that could happen, even the idea of something like Mr. Freeze, that is such a great story, right? I think there’s actually a grounded version of that story, which could be really powerful and could be really great. So, I love the fantastical side of Batman, but this iteration, obviously, while being, to me, I think it is very comics faithful, but I don’t think that this one is necessary, it doesn’t lean as hard into the fantastical, I guess.

    Matt Reeves

It sounds like the director has some fun ideas in place if he’s already considered exploring a character like Mr. Freeze. We don’t know if the upcoming film includes some Easter eggs to other characters that eventually turn into future members of his rogue’s gallery. With spinoff shows in place, who knows just how far in advance Reeves has mapped out his new Batman Cinematic Universe, but it would be great to see him get a chance to bring Mr. Freeze back to the silver screen.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings Past ‘Avatar’ to Become Third Highest Grossing Film Ever

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings Past ‘Avatar’ to Become Third Highest Grossing Film Ever

In its 10th week in theaters, Spider-Man: No Way Home has climbed to third all-time on the lifetime domestic gross charts, passing 2009’s Avatar. The Marvel Studios and Sony collaborative project now trails only Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens on the all-time U.S. charts.

Avatar is still king worldwide, however, and No Way Home‘s climb into the top 3 on that chart seems a bit more challenging as it currently sits in 6th place, over $200M away from catching Avengers: Infinity War.

Any way you cut it, the film was a major success for Sony and may eventually outgross the combined box offices of the next two highest grossing Spider-Man films (2002’s Spider-Man and 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home) which total up to around $797.5M. The success of the film has already spurred Marvel and Sony forward into a renewed partnership and development on a 4th installment in the MCU-set franchise has already begun.

  • ‘The Batman’s Robert Pattinson Wants to Face the Court of Owls in a Sequel

‘The Batman’s Robert Pattinson Wants to Face the Court of Owls in a Sequel

Robert Pattinson is ready to take on the mantle of the Batman in Matt Reeves’ new universe, and it seems he’s been taking a deep dive into the comic history. In an interview with Den of Geek, the actor has revealed that he is quite interested in exploring an adaptation from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo‘s iconic The Court of Owls storyline. The introduction of a secret society deep within Gotham’s high-class was a great storyline and had a more horror-themed aspect to it as it pushed Bruce Wayne to his limits. Pattinson highlights how their take on the character also leads itself perfectly for this storyline:

I’d love to do something like Court of Owls. There are elements of The Batman which are kind of horror and I think it really feels quite new for Batman.

    Robert Pattinson

Some time ago, we’ve even theorized that the series might be building up to a potential confrontation with the Court of Owls given some of the story hints that may hint at a bigger picture beyond this solo outing. While it seems they are going for a more grounded take on the Dark Knight, it may expand at some point to include supernatural elements, and zombified hitmen in owl costumes seem on the more acceptable side of that direction. Here’s hoping the actor gets his wish, as the franchise potentially spins off into a new trilogy or even more.

  • ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Trailer Hints at Doctor Strange Visiting an Animated Universe

‘Multiverse of Madness’ Trailer Hints at Doctor Strange Visiting an Animated Universe

We might be able to write all night about all the small details that are included in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Super Bowl trailer. We just shared an article that the trailer may have hinted at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the Savage Lands, but mere seconds before that you can actually see a star-shaped portal. Strange and America Chavez are falling through the multiverse and if you look closely, it almost seems like they are dropping out of a universe that seems to be animated or at least drawn.

There’s no clear point of reference to figure out what it may be hinting at, but with their revival of the 90s X-Men animated series, they could be using this as a point of connection. It’s certainly closer to hand-drawn animation rather than the CGI designs we got with What If…? but something that almost seems like it’s taken from the 60s Spider-Man series with its color palette. We might never find out until the film releases, but speculation is going to be fun to figure out where exactly they are falling out from. There’s also the chance that is a purposeful placeholder to keep viewers on the edge of their seat deciphering what secrets the film might have in store for us.

  • New ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Poster Teases Live-Action Debut of Captain Carter

New ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Poster Teases Live-Action Debut of Captain Carter

When Haley Atwell returned to voice Captain Carter in Marvel Studios canonical animated series, What If…?, it wasn’t long before rumors began to swirl that the character would eventually make the jump to live-action. In fact, we even speculated here that the What If…? Marvel Legends wave might have pointed in that very direction. Thanks to the new poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans need speculate no longer.

The magnificent new poster for the upcoming film shows what would seem to be the after effects of Strange’s spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home that broke open the multiverse. Among the images reflected on the shards of the broken window of the Sanctum Sanctorum, we can see the shield wielded by Captain Carter in What If…?.

What role will Captain Carter play in the film? Rumors have her among the members of the Illuminati who were revealed in the latest trailer. We’ll all find out together when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.
