Not only do we finally know who is playing Mihawk, who will be played by Steven Ward but also that Craig Faribrass is playing Chef Zeff. That’s not all, as Chioma Umeala will play Nojika, Celeste Loots is Kaya, and Alexander Maniatis is Klahadore. Last, but not least, Captain Morgan will be played by Langley Kirkwood.

GEEKED WEEK: First Look at ‘One Piece’ Sets and Concept Art

Finally, we got an update and official look behind the scenes on what exactly they’ve been working on for the live-action adaptation of One Piece. During Geeked Week, they shared a very close look at the amazing massive sets, as well as the detail that went into bringing this franchise to life. Not just that, but it also includes some concept art.

Sadly, they have not revealed any details or a look at the cast in their official costumes. But, it’s quite impressive that they put in the work to bring these ships to life. Here’s hoping that they start teasing more and more as we get closer to the potential release.

  • McKinley Belcher Arrives on Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Set

McKinley Belcher Arrives on Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Set

The live-action One Piece series’ production has been going strong. While we did get a surprising amount of set photos leaked, which is mostly due to just how massive the production is with actual ships being used for the various pirates, we still know very little about the crew and their looks. With only a few more days to go for a first tease during Geeked Week, it seems that McKinley Belcher, who has been cast as Arlong, has officially joined the production.

The actor took to his Instagram account to share a set photo of his chair with his name on it. Sadly, he also isn’t giving us a glimpse at his make-up as the iconic villain from the East Blue, but it’s fun to see the tradition of the chair shot return. It was used by the cast early on when everyone started finding their way to production.

With him officially joining production it means that they are likely filming the iconic Arlong Park currently. Perhaps we get some photos from the cast sharing a look at them hanging out together, which was something we saw early on. We are quite excited to see how they translate the Fishmen to live-action and how close they may stick to his original design. With a budget that could rival a Marvel film, there’s a lot of potentials for this series to establish itself as the platform’s next major release. Perhaps Geeked Week may give us a first look at his design alongside with the Straw Hats in their costume.

  • Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series Has Added to its Cast

Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series Has Added to its Cast

With only a little over a week to go before we get an update on the upcoming live-action One Piece series. The team has been hard at work on the series that’ll bring one of the most iconic manga franchises to life. Little was known about how they might adapt the East Blue Saga, especially in how they might adapt some of the arcs within a shorter episode count than the manga or anime. It’s certainly going to be quite the challenge, such as potentially skipping some elements. A new listing from ERM may have confirmed the addition of a familiar face from Orange Town.

As first shared by @OP_Netflix_Fan, it looks like actor Lindsay Reardon has joined the One Piece cast as Mayor Boodle. In case some don’t know, he is the mayor of Orange Town and was the last line of defense when Buggy and his crew took over the town. He was there to fight them off while the rest of the townsfolk stayed in hiding, especially as he tried to protect the dog Chouchou that was trying to keep an eye on the pet store of his owner.

There have been theories that they might skip Orange Town altogether and mix it with a different storyline to keep its tight pacing together. Set photos showcased what may have been a tent on Buggy’s ship, which led to a theory on our side that they may just have more stories happen on the boats rather than directly on the island, such as Chouchou potentially chasing after Buggy on his ship. The addition of Mayor Boodle may hint that they still could visit the island, or perhaps even that he chases after the puppy.

  • Live-Action ‘One Piece’s Budget on Par with Marvel Studios’ Films

Live-Action ‘One Piece’s Budget on Par with Marvel Studios’ Films

There’s been a lot of discourse on just how big the budget is for Netflix’s attempt at bringing One Piece into live-action. It’s not a cheap undertaking, especially when one considers the leaked set photos teasing towns and even entire boats replicated for the sake of production. Luckily, Richard Bridgland, the production designer on One Piece, has revealed that their project is on par with what Marvel Studios is producing.

We know he’s working on One Piece, as he’s highlighted as the Production Designer of “Project Panda,” which was the name we first heard just as the production was preparing a while before cameras started rolling. @dogy_logy shared a clip from the presentation on Twitter, which included the statement regarding the budget reveal.

On a big film, the main unit crew will cost anywhere between 180 thousand to 250K thousand a day. And we’re talking about a big Marvel movie, the production I am working on at the moment. If they get held up a half an hour, you can calculate that cost.

There have been many discussions on just how much money Netflix is investing in this project, and knowing that it’s following the production budget of a Marvel production, which goes up to the $200M, it’s quite something up. The challenge will be that they keep these budgets going for future entries, especially as future seasons may get even crazier with their budgets, and with Netflix’s current situation, here’s hoping they keep that investment alive for many future seasons.

  • Marc Jobst Wraps Work on First 2 Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Episodes

Marc Jobst Wraps Work on First 2 Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Episodes

It’s crazy to think that a few months have already passed since the live-action One Piece series started production. We didn’t know how they would tackle the series and if they are tackling it one episode at a time. It’s not uncommon for production to follow a different structure, as they schedule it around the availability of actors and how long some sets might require construction, something that stands out with One Piece‘s many ships that were spotted. Now, it seems that director Marc Jobst has wrapped up production on the first two episodes, as shared on Twitter.

The date on the board confirms that they’ve finished work with Friday’s date included. While we were able to confirm he’s working on the pilot episode some time ago, this is our first reveal that he’s also working on the second entry. The timing seems interesting, as the iconic ship of Shank’s was spotted and perhaps they’ve finished work on the flashbacks involving Shanks at a later point, which is why the first two episodes were only able to wrap at this point. He also shared a photo with some of the cast members to highlight the fun he had working on this project.

We’ve seen set photos of the Baratie and Alvida’s ship, which gave us some hint at some elements they may have filmed over time. Even Garp’s ship was hinted at, which was still in construction some time ago and may have already been finished. There’s a lot we don’t know, but it’s great to see they are moving forward with the production at a smooth pace and Jobst seemingly had an amazing time working on the production. Here’s hoping that he’ll also return for future seasons if Netflix realizes the potential of this project.

  • ‘Lost in Space’ Director Tim Southam Joins Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series

‘Lost in Space’ Director Tim Southam Joins Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series

It looks like we finally have a reveal of a new director for the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece. Netflix and TV veteran, Tim Southam, has revealed his involvement with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix’s adaptation on his personal website, as uncovered by @OP_Netflix_Fan. While there is no mention if he’s involved with a specific amount of episodes, he is seemingly also attached as an executive producer.

As mentioned, the director has quite a history with Netflix, as he worked on two episodes of Locke & Key and quite a few episodes of Lost in Space. He’s also worked on an episode of American Gods, Bates Motel, The Good Doctor, and many more. So, he has quite the filmography as a director. He’s also worked as an executive producer on Colony and Locke & Key.

He’s the second director revealed to be working on the series. Daredevil and Black Sails director Marc Jobst also is involved with the project and is directing the series pilot. It’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the One Piece adaptation, especially as we’ve seen quite a bit from the set that hinted at some massive sets, such as Shank’s ship, the Red Force.

We might get more information in June once Geeked Week starts, which may even give us a full reveal on who the directing team is behind the project. It’s unclear how many episodes Jobst and Southam might be working on, but it’s great to finally get some hint at who is working on bringing our favorite Straw Hats to life.
