Now, this is a huge reveal. We always theorized that the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk will explore many aspects of Hulk’s history. We all were hoping that some from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk would finally return. Kevin Feige has just revealed that Tim Roth will return as Abomination in the Disney+ series. We will finally find out what he has been up to since he was taken into custody during the events of the 2008 film. This also opens up the possibility of The Leader finally making an appearance, which could still be possible.

‘She-Hulk’ Seeking to Cast Augustus Pugliese and Arch-Rival Titania
We are finally getting some new casting news for She-Hulk. The upcoming Disney+ show will shine a spotlight on Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters. After an accident, Bruce saves her life by giving her a blood transfusion, but it ends up transforming her into the titular character. The show cast Tatiana Maslany in the titular role as it eyes a March production start. Now, we have our first news regarding the supporting cast that will join Jennifer in her legal drama.
Let’s start with the standout casting of a villain. The character of Lucy is a glamorous Social Media influencer. She is described as a Kardashian and will have a considerable role in the series as a potential antagonist. Our best guess would be the character of Mary MacPherran, or better known as Titania. She is Walter’s arch-nemesis in the comics. Her character description is a far departure from what we are used to, but she sounds like the perfect foil to the more straight-laced She-Hulk. It would also be interesting to explore a character that focuses on her looks but ends up trying to compete with Jennifer through brawn.
The other supporting characters seem to be closely related to Jennifer’s day job as a lawyer. Susie, who is a 30-ish Asian-American, might be Angie Huang, who worked as her assistant during the Marvel NOW! run. Marvel Studios is also looking for a male co-worker, who would be a John Krasinski-type person. That description would match the character of Augustus Pugliese quite well. In the comics, he had a crush on She-Hulk and even became her roommate at one point. They were both involved in a storyline where Spider-Man sued J. Jonah Jameson for libel.
It was uncertain how much of the series would focus on her time as a lawyer, but it seems quite likely that we could have a procedural show similar to Law & Order or even Suits. The genre is quite popular, so they have a lot of inspiration to pull from. It’ll be interesting to see how this series will be from the rest, as Marvel Studios seems keen on making these shows stand out from the usual franchise structure so we could get a closer look at a world filled with superheroes and powered individuals.

‘SHE-HULK’, ‘MOON KNIGHT’ Targeting March 2021 Starts
Kevin Feige and his creative team at Marvel Studios have made a priority of developing and producing high-quality content for Disney Plus. As we inch near FINALLY being able to see the first fruits of their labor when WandaVision streams in January, work has been completed on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, continues on with Loki, has begun on Ms. Marvel and is going to kick off on Hawkeye “after Thanksgiving.” With things seemingly on cruise control with that group, the studio has turned its attention to the final two series from the streaming services first Marvel Studios wave: She-Hulk and Moon Knight. Having landed their leads in Tatiana Maslany and Oscar Issac, the projects are now casting for supporting roles and, according to a new trade report, will kick off production in March of 2021.

She-Hulk will introduce Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner, to the MCU. The studio is currently casting a handful of strong supporting roles for the series which will be comedy heavy and follow Walters’ as she navigates the world of superhero law while also partaking in some superheroing of her own.
She-Hulk looks set for a lengthy production window. Originally planned to shoot for 8 months from August 2020-March 2021, it could now be looking at being in production in Atlanta for more than half of 2021 should they follow that same schedule when it kicks off production in late March.

While She-Hulk is being billed as a comedy, Moon Knight looks set to tackle some more serious issues, including the mental health of its lead, Marc Spector, and his multiple personalities. Imbued with powers by the Egyptian god Khonshu, the former mercenary becomes a street-level vigilante.
Using London as its production HQ, Moon Knight will film in multiple European locations, including Budapest. Marvel Studios projects such as Black Widow and Eternals have followed similar production plans in the past.
With these two projects now headed towards production, the studio has turned its attention to the next wave of streaming series. Kyle Bradstreet is currently writing a Samuel L. Jackson-led Nick Fury-centric series and I’ve heard that the studio has begun work on 2-3 other projects with Ironheart being mentioned by multiple sources. While we don’t have a lot of data points, it looks like the studio is pairing up projects when possible, so we could expect to hear about the partner series to Nick Fury before too long as the studio will want those up and running for production in mid-2021.

‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’
Premiere: August 18, 2022
Showrunner Jessica Gao is currently prepping what appears to be a light-hearted take on Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, for Disney +.
Marvel was initially looking for an actress in her 20s-mid 30s with comedic chops to portray Walters. On September 15, 2020, Kat Coiro (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia; Shameless) was confirmed to be directing multiple episodes of the show, and just two days later it became official that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black; Perry Manson) had landed the series’ title role, ahead of an early 2021 start of production.
During the Disney Investor Day presentation on December 10, 2020, it was confirmed that Tim Roth would be reprising his Abomination role from The Incredible Hulk and that Mark Ruffalo would also be returning as the Hulk himself. Ginger Gonzaga joined the cast in January 2021, in the role of Walter’s as of then-unnamed best friend. In April it was Renée Elise Goldsberry that joined the show playing a lawyer named Amelia. Jameela Jamil was announced to be playing the villainous Titania in early June 2021, with the series also adding Josh Segarra and Director of Photography Florian Ballhaus to its crew the following month. Griffin Matthews (The Flight Attendant) will also be joining the show in an undisclosed recurring role.
In April 2022 some rumors surfaced that hinted at a late 2022 / early 2023 streaming debut for the series, a slight delay on what was initially expected. These rumors were later proved to be unsubstantiated with the announcement that the series would premiere on August 17 following the release of its first official trailer on May 17, 2022. Besides the release date, the show got a new title with the Attorney at Law subtitle being added and confirmation that it would consist of nine episodes instead of the initially announced ten.
Amie Doherty was confirmed as the composer of the show in July 2022.
According to an official Disney release, She-Hulk will debut with a single episode on August 17th, meaning it will likely have a nine-week run that will conclude on October 12th. This was soon changed with the series being revealed to be premiering on August 18 instead, with a new episode every Thursday. The decision will prevent a bigger overlap with the release of Rogue One spin-off Andor as well as prevent an Obi-Wan Kenobi / Ms. Marvel situation where both series’ episodes were being released on the same weekday.

‘She-Hulk’ Could Introduce Hulk’s Greatest Enemy: His Father
Just today, The Direct revealed that a 10-year old Bruce Banner is being cast for She-Hulk. At face value, it’s something we could’ve guessed given that they are cousins. It wouldn’t be too hard to imagine some minor flashback sequence between the two. Yet, once you start thinking about it, this is Marvel’s chance to tell a Hulk-centric story since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. That film skipped through his origin and creation. We get scenes reminisced of the original 1978′ The Incredible Hulk TV show, but it didn’t spend much time on Banner. The MCU was mainly focused on his relationship with the Hulk. We never truly spent a lot of time with Banner before he was facing his Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde scenario. Well, if the casting rumor is true, we might get
Throughout the MCU, Banner never much talked about his family history. We have seen this story told in the original Hulk film by Ang Lee. The 2003 film focused on Bruce’s relationship with his father David Banner, who started his experiment in gamma radiation. He isn’t the father of the year, as he believes Bruce owes him for putting him in this world. This ends up becoming his obsession by stealing Bruce’s ability before transforming into Zzzax.

In the comics, his father’s name was Brian. Sadly, the comics did not share a happier story for the Banners. He was quite abusive towards his son, as he believed his family had a “monster gene”. His work in nuclear energy drove him to alcoholism. He even swore never to have children but, of course, broke that when Bruce was born. He neglected him believing he shared the same monster gene, which he felt confirmed when Bruce showed a hyper-intelligence. It all led to the moment that Bruce had to witness his father kill his mother. These moments were what would truly shape the rage monster that he was holding within.
It’s a very dark story that was never delved into within the MCU. The recent news might be a small inkling of how we may uncover why rage is what fuels the Hulk. We might get to meet Brian and his mother, Rebecca. She-Hulk‘s protagonist Jennifer Walters is his cousin on his father’s side. We don’t know how close they are since he was on the run for most of his life after the transformation. He may have tried to get back in contact with her since he joined the Avengers. This forced him to face his past, which will be at the center of the story.
Jennifer’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be a jumping-on point in exploring more of Banner’s past and his relationship with his family. It opens up the question if we will get the introduction of Brian, who in the comics even transformed into a Hulk-like monster during the Chaos War storyline. Whatever they may have planned, it’s looking like Bruce will have to face his past one way or another.

The Clients of ‘SHE-HULK’: A Potential ‘THUNDERBOLTS’ Set-Up
We finally got some more news for the upcoming She-Hulk series. They have now hired Kat Coiro to direct a few episodes, as the production aims to start in February 2021. Jessica Gao was revealed as the series’ showrunner last November. We even found out that Tatiana Maslany will be playing the titular role. Everything is hinting at this show having a strong comedy vibe. Yet, Maslany‘s drama experience could give us a very unique Marvel show. The show is rumored to focus on Jennifer Walters’ time as a specialized lawyer for superheroes. The comedic vibe could hint at some crazy antics with D-list characters making an appearance throughout the show. This gave me an idea of how the show may emulate Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. Also, how her clients may shape each episode and connect to the overarching plot. Let’s dive right into what type of clients poor Jennifer might have to face in her upcoming Disney+ show.
Hawkeye vs. the Law
So, the first question I asked myself was what characters from the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe may appear. Mark Ruffalo is the obvious choice, as his blood transfer will transform his cousin into the iconic She-Hulk. Yet, it seems like a waste that they won’t bring in other characters from the franchise. At first, I thought they might bring in characters from other Disney+ series. Ms. Marvel wouldn’t work as she is keeping her identity a secret. I highly doubt that Moon Knight would be sane enough to approach a lawyer. WandaVision and Loki are breaking the space-time continuum in their unique way. So, if we go by street-level heroes the one that makes the most sense is Hawkeye. To be more precise, Kate Bishop could kickstart the series and introduce us to Jennifer Walters.
They are trying to introduce the Young Avengers. She-Hulk wouldn’t have any connections to this potential overarching plot. So, her having to represent Kate would introduce her to the group before they get together. She actually could even represent Kate before she officially becomes Clint Barton’s protegé. We don’t have a specific timeline for these stories. So, we could see her as one of Lawrence’s first clients. Her story could be the catalyst that she meets her cousin. Bishop running around with the Hawkeye moniker getting into trouble. Jennifer tries to help her out but when she is on the run, she hopes that her cousin could get in contact with the real Hawkeye to keep her safe. As this is one of the last entries of Phase 4, it could be a nice way to tie it into the rest of the series. Also, it would give us a great introduction to Jennifer’s kindness before she transforms.
Teasing a Leader
What if not all her clients are superheroes? What if she ends up having to represent someone we haven’t seen in a very long time? Yes, I believe that this show might be the return of the iconic Hulk villain, The Leader. It has been 12 years since Tim Blake Nelson played the character of Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk. He tried to help Banner control the Hulk before getting knocked out. A chemical that started dripping into an open wound on his head started to change him. That was the last time we saw him. He got a brief cameo in the Fury’s Big Week comics. We see him getting transported away by S.H.I.E.L.D. to be locked away. Strangely, he hasn’t been freed since the spy organization fell apart during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Perhaps he has been in U.S. custody with Thunderbolt Ross making sure he has him for a future project.
So, how does this tie into She-Hulk? In an attempt to flee from custody, he ends up at Walter’s law agency seeking help. As we learned she is a kind soul, she takes him in and tries to find out what happened to him. Stern has turned green with an oversized head, so she calls up her cousin to show up and help. The guy is disoriented and can’t control his abilities. It all leads to him losing control before Banner could show up and see his old friend again. Jennifer is mortally wounded with her agency blown to smithereens. The only thing he can do is transfer his blood to save her life. Now, we have the set-up for two characters having to face their gamma-powered transformations as they also face the law of their repercussions. Stern’s turn to evil could be built up when Thunderbolt Ross’ project results from these events.
Helping Heroes in Need
Jennifer became She-Hulk and learns to control her abilities with Banner’s help. She is a strong-willed hero and still wants to rebuild her law firm. She got fired from the one that blew up so she started building up her own. Sometimes fighting the stress of losing control, she wants to find Sterns and help him. On her way, she ends up meeting a variety of unlikely heroes that each come to her with their issues. This could open up the show to a lot of smaller characters that otherwise wouldn’t get a lot of attention. After having a brief cameo in Jessica Jones, we could get an actual appearance of the Whizzer. Robert Frank has been keeping his abilities a secret for years. Somehow, the government is trying to get their hands on him so he goes to Walters for help. We could finally get Milana Vayntrub to play Squirrel Girl in live-action after New Warriors has been canceled.
Jennifer slowly starts to realize that there is a connection to the rise in superhero-specific cases. So, she starts digging and uncovers one connective tissue. Thunderbolt Ross has been abusing the Sokovian Accords to gather superheroes in one location. After trying her best from a legal perspective, she decides that her newfound abilities may have been a blessing after all. She takes the fight to Ross to save as many as she can. She stumbles upon papers of a project titled Thunderbolts before rescuing as many as she can. Sadly, it seems that Sterns was nowhere to be seen. One last court case with Ross, she can use the law that she didn’t break any rules. She was able to save a lot of superpowered people but little did she know that Ross had his team together. We get the reveal of the core members with Sterns and even the reveal of Emil Blonsky a.k.a. the Abomination.

Kat Coiro Tapped to Direct Multiple Episodes of “SHE-HULK”
Production has resumed on Marvel Studios COVID-delayed projects and Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye are set to start before the end of the year. She-Hulk is set to kick off in 2021 and now the studio has entered into negotiations with director Kat Coiro, whose previous works include It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Shameless, to direct the pilot and multiple other episodes in the shows first season. Coiro will also serve as an executive producer on the project. It was reported earlier that a potential production start date would be eyeing a February 2021 start date and looks to be filming in Atlanta.
The titular role of Jennifer Walters has yet to be cast, along with any other role in the project. The most recent update we heard on casting was that the studio was eyeing an Alison Brie-type actress for the role of She-Hulk but news on that has yet to surface. She-Hulk will air exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service and currently has no set release date, but is rumored to premier some time in 2022.
Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk first appeared in “The Savage She-Hulk” #1 in February 1980 and was created by Stan Lee and John Buscema. Walters was a Lawyer who was involved in a tragic accident and gains her Hulk-like abilities after a blood transfusion from her the cousin, the one and only Bruce Banner. Jennifer is able to maintain her personality even after Hulking out unlike her cousin who usually flies into an uncontrollable rage.

‘SHE-HULK’ Eyeing February 2021 Production Start
Marvel Studios is slowly restarting its productions. We just recently got some set photos from Falcon and the Winter Soldier showing off Bartoc the Leaper and Agent 13. Even as the pandemic still looms over everyone’s head, they are trying to plan out the next production starts. Looks like one more is joining the club, as both The Direct and Illuminerdi reported the show is eyeing a production start for 2021. It seems that they will try to kickstart production in February. They are currently eyeing Atlanta to film the series, which has become a staple for the franchise’s productions. As of now, the only MCU series without a production start is Moon Knight.
So far, we only know that they are eyeing an Alison Brie-type actress for the titular role. Yet, we haven’t heard anything since. Hopefully, we get some kind of casting announcement in the coming months before production starts. Mark Ruffalo has already expressed his interest in appearing on the show. It would be strange not to include Jennifer Walters’ cousin whose blood transfer turned her into She-Hulk. Hulk and Banner have fused into Professor Hulk, so it won’t be cheap to include him. It also opens up the question of how they will approach She-Hulk’s transformation. CGI seems like the obvious choice, so maybe this show will have a smaller episode count to avoid budgetary issues.

Mark Ruffalo Confirms Negotiations for ‘SHE-HULK’ Appearance
In news that will surprise few and delight many, Mark Ruffalo confirmed that negotiations have begun to see him return as the Hulk in the Disney Plus streaming series, She-Hulk.

According to ComicBook.com, Ruffalo announced the news at this weekend’s C2E2 event in Chicago. His return makes an unbelievable amount of sense given how integral Bruce Banner is to the story of his cousin, Jennifer Walters, becoming She-Hulk. With the news that he’s almost certainly going to return, we can now hope to see his character take some new paths down the road as well.
