  • ‘Isle of the Dead’ Spinoff is One of Many Pitched Maggie and Negan Spinoffs

‘Isle of the Dead’ Spinoff is One of Many Pitched Maggie and Negan Spinoffs

The Walking Dead continues to grow its potential with various new spinoff series in some form of production. There’s an anthology series on its way titled The Tales of the Walking Dead, and we also got the confirmation of one titled Isle of the Dead. This series caught everyone by surprise as it’ll focus on Lauren Cohan‘s Maggie joining forces with Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s Negan.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Cohan reveals that they went through quite a few ideas before they landed on the current version. It seems that they definitely wanted to further explore the dynamic between Maggie and Negan, which has certainly changed since Morgan joined the show in quite a memorable introduction.

I know there have always been three, maybe four options for how Maggie would end up in a spinoff. For Maggie or Negan there’s been a bunch of ideas floating around. I think this story that Eli Jorne came up with, which is what we’ll be shooting for season one of Isle of the Dead, was just really powerful and such an interesting way for fans to get to see these characters continue.

    Lauren Cohan

The spinoff will explore the two characters exploring what is left of Manhattan, as it became cut off from the mainland and is now filled with a horde of Walkers. It’ll be interesting to see what exactly leads them to explore Manhattan and how they end up surviving a horde of Walkers that are just waiting for some fresh meat.

  • ‘National Treasure’s Justin Bartha to Return for Disney+ Spinoff Series

‘National Treasure’s Justin Bartha to Return for Disney+ Spinoff Series

It looks like one original cast member is making his return to the upcoming National Treasure spinoff series, as Disney+ took to its official Twitter account to announce that Justin Bartha is returning in a guest role. He’ll join the series as Riley Poole one more time, who was Nicolas Cage‘s nerdy sidekick and computer expert. The big confirmation with this is that the new series takes place in the same world as the original two films were, which opens up the window for other cameos later down the line. There’s no word if Cage might be interested in also reprising his role as Ben for the series, but the possibility definitely seems to be there.

It’s unclear if he’ll have any ties to the original films, or if he is simply reprising his role for an unrelated cameo appearance. The Disney+ series focuses on a completely new cast that follows Lisette Alexis‘ Jess as she embarks on an adventure of a lifetime to find a long-lost Pan-American treasure. Catherine Zeta-Jones has also been cast in a major role and will make Jess’ adventure quite a bit more difficult. So far, there’s no word if the series is being produced with multiple seasons in mind.

It’s great to see these legacy franchises include actors from the originals that inspired it. It adds that feeling of passing the torch even if not everyone is on board. Who knows, they could also always surprise viewers with a last-minute cameo, especially with films that became cult classics long after they premiered.

  • Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes to Direct ‘Ironheart’

Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes to Direct ‘Ironheart’

It looks like Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart has finally found its directing team, as Deadline has just reported that Brown Girl‘s Sam Bailey and One Day at a Time’s Angela Barnes. They also confirm a recent reveal by Anthony Ramos that the series is being produced under the banner of Ryan Coogler‘s Proximity, who are joining in a producing role.

Marvel Studios has been expanding its approach to producing its films, such as also opening up to external production labels joining in. We’ve just recently learned that Deadpool will also be a co-production, a first for the studio outside of Sony-owned productions It’s also fitting that Coogler is involved with the project, as part of his overall deal with Disney. Plus, he is introducing the character of Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Sam Bailey made her name in the industry as the co-creator of the Emmy-nominated Brown Girls and also for her work on You’re So Talented. She also directed the final season of Netflix’s Dear White People. Angela Barnes has most notably made her name in television with projects like Mythic Quest, Blindspotting, and even worked on the fourth season of Atlanta. So, they’ve really got some talented directors to bring the series to life.

  • Peacock Developing a ‘Riverdale’-inspired Live-Action Series of ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost’

Peacock Developing a ‘Riverdale’-inspired Live-Action Series of ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost’

It looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost is making his long return, as Peacock is currently developing a live-action TV series. What sticks out is that this will be a coming-of-age story in the same vein as Riverdale‘s darker interpretation that has put the CW series on the map with its very out-there approach to storytelling. The only thing we know is that the series will be written and supervised by head writer Kai Yu Wu of The Ghost Bride fame.

The story will follow a family arriving in Eternal Falls, where Casper becomes entangled in uncovering a dark secret that has been buried for 100 years. Just like Riverdale, the story will have a high school setting and the once-friendly ghost will have to explore what it means to be truly alive.

While I enjoyed the first season of Riverdale, the series had a very unique direction moving forward. It’s unclear if they might try to target the same audience, but a murder mystery does work well with a character like Casper. It’s just unclear if they will completely drop his “Friendly Ghost” tagline. The new direction opens a lot of opportunities but could also push it into similar territory to reflect some of the more questionable aspects of the CW series.

  • Disney+ Cast ‘The Adam Project’s Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson

Disney+ Cast ‘The Adam Project’s Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson

After a long search, it seems that Disney+ has finally found its Percy Jackson, as Variety has just announced that Walker Scobell, who just recently left his mark with The Adam Project, will take on the titular role. The series of Rick Riordan books was ordered to series back in January, and the writer has been actively teasing the project throughout, as he took a bigger hand in bringing it to life. He’s recently hinted that they are on their way to cast the main trio, which is now kicked off with Scobell taking on the role of the 12-year-old demigod.

Percy has lived most of his life as an outsider due to his ADHD and dyslexia. Yet, he learns that he has a bigger family secret than he may have ever imagined. Perhaps it also gives him a new home where he’ll finally feel where he fits in rather than sticking out as he did before. Yet, he still will find himself on an unlikely adventure after the Greek god Zeus accuses him of stealing the master lightning bolt and is forced to find it to free himself from the accusations while restoring Olympus.

Scobell made a big splash with his film debut in The Adam Project starring opposite Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and more. The film’s success definitely also put him on everyone’s radar, as he played a younger version of Reynolds‘ character. He’s also set to appear in Paramount’s upcoming film Secret Headquarters, where he’ll star with Owen Wilson. It’ll be interesting to see who else mightjoin the cast.

  • Natasha Lyonne Talks ‘Russian Doll’ Season 2

Natasha Lyonne Talks ‘Russian Doll’ Season 2

Russian Doll‘s first season was a smash hit for Netflix when it debuted in 2019 that left fans eagerly wanting more of this crazy world. While the series was renewed in June 2019, the journey to Season 2 has been a long one. Thankfully, however, the wait is nearly over and no one is more excited than series star Natasha Lyonne, who served as a director this season in addition to being the show’s co-creator, executive producer, writer, and showrunner. In a recent interview with Variety, Lyonne expressed her excitement over finally sharing this “crazy” season.

On Friday, Netflix held a rooftop celebration for the series at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Lyonne was on hand to promote the series and took some time to discuss what it was like to finally release the trailer, without trying to spoil anything for Season 2. “It’s scary releasing trailers and things like that, because you’re trying to figure out the right amount [to show], if you want people to be able to go in cold,” she explained. “And yet, there’s a thirst, a hunger that dictates that this is the way that we do things.”

She also talked about what it’s like to be so involved in the production, especially as she feels as though there are bits of Nadia in herself. “When I’m in the writers room, I’m much more of a stressed out person who looks tired and worn down. In prep, all of a sudden it’s that person, but with a lot of parkas, because directing loves parkas and sneakers. Then this third character emerges — now I’m inside of Nadia and it’s go time.”

After directing the eighth episode of Season 1, Lyonne stepped behind the camera for half of this season’s episodes, with executive producer Alex Buono tackling the rest of the episodes. For Lyonne, getting to work with Buono behind the camera was special as she enjoys their partnership and what they brought to this season. “I always tell Alex, ‘I know that you have your life and you have a best friend, but just know that you’re my best friend.’ Because I don’t think I’d ever been able to get quite to the end of a thought so concretely as I was able to with Alex. There was something so special about our partnership this season. There’s these things that we wanted to do, and we actually made them happen, so he’s incredible.”

Russian Doll Season 2 will finally hit Netflix on April 20th.

  • Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Returning for ‘Better Call Saul’ Final Season

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Returning for ‘Better Call Saul’ Final Season

While it’s great to see characters return that isn’t always the case if it ends up forced. Sure, it’s great to see your favorites back but does it really fit into the story well. Better Call Saul has done a great job at bringing back some popular characters from its predecessor series, Breaking Bad. We saw fan-favorites like Mike Ehrmantraut, Nacho Varga, Gus Fring, Tuco Salamanca, and Hank Schrader make their return. Each served a purpose and overall added something to the series. It looks like they are kicking it up a notch with the upcoming finale.

Yo Mr White!” is something we never thought we would hear again as the series came to an end, as Walter White was presumed dead. It seems our luck may have changed as Peter Gould, co-creator of Better Call Saul, has confirmed that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will indeed be reprising their roles.

I don’t want to spoil things for the audience, but I will say the first question we had when we started the show was, ‘Are we gonna see Walt and Jesse on the show?’ Instead of evading, I’ll just say yeah.

    Peter Gould

Gould continued on to discuss that how the pair return will remain a mystery until it happens, as not to spoil it.

“How or the circumstances or anything, you’ll just have to discover that for yourself, but I have to say that’s one of many things that I think you’ll discover this season.”

    Peter Gould

That is not all, as we did also get a new image of the duo teasing their return in the upcoming series.

Their return will surely be interesting, as during the time this series takes place, Walter White has yet to “break bad” and amass his drug empire as Heisenberg. Its possible we could see them appear in a scene set during the events of the show that somehow fits into the story, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

  • RUMOR: Arden Cho May Have Joined Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

RUMOR: Arden Cho May Have Joined Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

Netflix has been busy developing its live-action adaptations of popular animated series from all over the world. One of the biggest on their list is the upcoming adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which will once again revisit the story of Aang, as he travels through the world to embrace his future as the Avatar while mastering all four elements. We got a good glimpse of the upcoming adaptation of the first season, but it looks like one more actress may have joined the production.

According to Knight Edge Media, actress Arden Cho may have joined the production in an unspecific role. There have been theories about her potentially joining due to her being in Vancouver for a month filming an unnamed project. She shared this information on her official Twitter back in March.

The actress made her big splash in the industry as Kira Yukimura on Teen Wolf, where she recently refused to return due to being only offered half the salary as her male co-stars. She’s gone on to have various guest roles on Castle, Hawaii Five-0, and even got a recurring role with Chicago Med.

With it being unclear who she might be playing, there are quite a few roles to fill for the first season. We know that it’ll likely adapt Book 1 from the original animated series. So, she could have a role as part of the Fire Nation, who’s going to face off against the Northern Water Tribe. She may also be part of the Earth Kingdom and is a tease for what’s to come in the future. We’ll see if this rumor turns out true once we get a first look at the series.

  • First Set Photos of CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ Leak as Production Starts

First Set Photos of CW’s ‘Gotham Knights’ Leak as Production Starts

CW has recently fast-tracked production on a project to adapt the Gotham Knights storyline, as Gotham struggles after the death of Bruce Wayne and a void is left in his wake. Batman’s protégé–surprisingly not Nightwing as initially expected–is forced to team up with the children of his father’s long list of rogue’s gallery. Production has finally kicked off and it didn’t take long for photos to leak from the Toronto set. While we don’t get a first look at any of the actors, we do get a good look at a sequence featuring the GCPD transporting someone, as shared by @Dew_u_c_me:

Luckily @TOFilming_EM also shared a video from the set confirming that the police escort is for someone. There’s a chance that one of the iconic villains might be hidden there, or maybe transferring someone to bring them to safety. We know Mischa Collins has been cast as Harvey Dent and he might be the one in the transport vehicle.

It’ll be interesting to see how they bring this series to life, especially with the concept of the children of Batman’s iconic villains teaming up. They might have multiple seasons in the plan, which opens up the question of what exactly the conflict will be throughout. Either they must team up against the villains pushing Gotham to the brain after the loss of Batman, or maybe an external threat arrives forcing the team-up to keep Gotham from whatever is trying to take over.

  • ‘The Flash’ Set Photos Reveal First Look at Fast Track

‘The Flash’ Set Photos Reveal First Look at Fast Track

The Flash is set to surpass Arrow for the longest-running Arrowverse series as it approaches its ninth season on the CW network. Throughout these past 8 seasons, The Flash has introduced countless other speedsters such as Reverse Flash, Zoom, Jay Garrick, Trajectory, The Rival, XS, Kid Flash, Savitar, and Black Flash — just to name a few. Over the past few seasons, the series has begun adapting recent stories like the seven forces, and looks to be bringing a recent addition to the speed force into live-action.

Recent set photos from The Flash have revealed that speedster Fast Track will be making her live-action debut sometime in the 8th season of The Flash. Set photos show the unknown actress suited up in the character’s black costume. We can assume that this actress will be playing Meena Dhawan, the alter ego of the character in the comics.

Fast Track is a fairly recent character, having been introduced in 2016, created by Joshua Williamson and Neil Googe, and introduced in The Flash Vol. 5 #3. Meena was a scientist at Star Labs who worked in the Newton’s Practical Application Department who was struck by lightning following a speed force storm sweeping through Central City. Meena used her newfound attachment to the speedforce to help the Flash in training the next generation of speedsters, those who’d also been affected by the speed force storm.

Here’s to hoping we’ll get an official look at the character soon with a better look at the costume and know just who is playing Fast Track.
