‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Casting for Foreign Mercs, Diplomats

According to a report by POC Culture, Marvel Studios is currently searching for actors to portray foreign mercenaries and diplomats for an upcoming film. The report indicates that the roles are for a production getting underway in the U.S. in July and the only film that fits that description is Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The report indicates that the studio is casting for males and females, 40-60, to play a French and Dutch diplomat and males and females, 20-40, to play French and Dutch mercenaries.

Will Disney ever build a 'Black Panther' Wakanda theme park land? – Orange County Register

Little is known about how the film will move forward with the story of T’Challa given the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman, but should the film deal with the death of Wakanda’s protector and King, it’s likely that the nation could face threats from the outside as it deals with his passing and naming the next Black Panther. If what we’ve heard about the film is true, French and Dutch diplomats and mercs will be the least of Wakanda’s worries.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to begin production this July and will be in theaters July 8, 2022.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Studios Casting a Young Lead for ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Studios Casting a Young Lead for ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is preparing to start filming in the UK this July and while most of the buzz has been around Kathryn Newton stepping in as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors being cast as Kang, we can now share that Marvel Studios is looking to add another major character to the mix. The studio is currently looking for a young female of any ethnicity, 9-12, to play an unnamed lead character in the film.

The character is described as a 10-year old and the studio is looking for a young actress with singing, dancing and comedic chops. It’s unlikely that they’re looking for a young actress to play a younger Cassie Lang as Abby Ryder Fortson still fits the description, so unless she is unavailable, this is for a new character set to play a major role in the 2023 release.

  • Phase 4 Is Man-Thing’s Time to Shine in the MCU

Phase 4 Is Man-Thing’s Time to Shine in the MCU

For over 80 years, Marvel Comics have taken fans on adventures spanning the cosmos, the multiverse, the depths of Hell and more. Thousands of characters have gone on countless journeys and saved the universe time and again and, over the past 13 years, have begun to make their respective ways into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel stable of comic characters is so vast that fans can’t reasonably expect all their favorite characters will find their ways to the MCU but, as we learned from our interview with Malcolm Spellman, Marvel Studios lets their writers work and then going to their expansive roster of characters to find just the right one for the job. As the MCU moves into Phase 4, there’s a character on Marvel’s bench that could serve as the connective tissue to a couple of key Phase 4 themes while also setting the stage for some properties in development: enter the Man-Thing.

Marvel's Most Disgusting Superhero is Secretly a Popular X-Men Writer

Man-Thing already exists in the MCU. We saw his loveable face on the Grandmaster’s tower in Thor: Ragnarok, met his comic book ex, Ellen Brandt, in Iron Man 3, got a name drop in Season 1 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Nexus of All Realities, of which he is the guardian, was seemingly referenced in WandaVision and definitely referenced by Erik Selvig in Thor: The Dark World. However, other than the look at his mug, we’ve never seen him in action but the revelation that Isaiah Bradley is a part of the MCU and that his blood has been used to attempt to recreate the Super Soldier serum could finally open the door for Dr. Ted Sallis’ story to be told and for us to finally meet the Man-Thing!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was all about the legacy of Steve Rogers and the Super Solider serum that made him Captain America and, as we found out, that serum has been at the heart of some terrible things. In the comics, Dr. Ted Sallis worked for the U.S. Army on a project which was intended to create a way to help soldier survive biological warfare. Before long, he found his way down the same road many Marvel Comics’ scientists have: attempting to recreate the Super Soldier serum. Betrayed and sold out to A.I.M. by his wife, Ellen, Sallis injected the only existing sample of the new serum into himself (as all good scientists do) and crashed into the swamp where, because magic, he was transformed into the Man-Thing. Sallis’ story has some other twists and turns, such as working alongside Curt Conners and also having a bit of his regen serum in him as well (I guess he could get his hands on that if say Curt Conners were to show up in Spider-Man: No Way Home), but the MCU is actually set up really well to retrofit his story and insert his story into the present day.

The Past: Sallis’ Research and Brandt’s Betrayal

Much of Dr. Ted Sallis’ comic book origins could easily be kept intact and adapted into the existing MCU, especially now that we know samples of Bradley’s blood have been the subject of experimentation since the 1950s. We know from The Incredible Hulk that the U.S. Department of Defense has experimented with Super Soldier serum during the interim and we could easily see Sallis retconned into being a part of the DoD’s research and working into the Everglades. While not something they necessarily need to do, Marvel Studios could easily retcon Ellen Brandt’s story (we only know that she was in the military herself and lost an arm) by having her be one of Sallis’ partners on the project, acting as an agent of A.I.M. (another organization that could really use some retconning). In the current MCU timeline, A.I.M. came into being sometime after 2000 and Brandt joined up in 2009. Sallis’ story could easily take place in the early-to-mid 2000s and allow him to meet and fall for Brandt, have her betray him and try to steal his work and have him encounter her one time as the Man-Thing, explaining the scarring on her face. Maybe we could even find out how he won the Contest of Champions!

The Present: The Nexus of All Realities

What is the Nexus in Marvel comic books? The WandaVision reference explained | GamesRadar+

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to bring all sorts of characters from their respective multiverses to the MCU, a theme that seems like it’ll spill over into both What If…? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the comics, the Nexus of All Realities is the type of interdimensional gateway that would allow for characters like Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker or Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock to travel from one universe to another and it’s Man-Thing’s job to protect that gateway as it is the crossroads for the entire Multiverse. As the guardian of the Nexus, Man-Thing has the ability to transplant people and places from their home reality into this one by opening portals to other realities. While we’ve never heard anything about Man-Thing showing up in any of these projects, if there were ever a time for big fella to arrive in the MCU, that time is now.

    The Future: Midnight Sons

Ghost Rider: How Rise of the Midnight Sons United Marvel's DARKEST Her – iNerd

Doctor Strange is present and Brother Voodoo is expected to join him shortly. Moon Knight is coming soon. Blade is headed to the MCU. Ghost Rider is in development. The supernatural side of the MCU is about to get crazy and bring in any manner of vampires, demons or other horrific creatures. Should the threat get bigger than any one hero could handle and a team-up be necessary, the Midnight Sons are that team and one that fans have been hoping to see come together for quite some time. Having first come together in the early 1990s, the team reassembled recently in Doctor Strange: Damnation with a few changes to the roster. If we were to meet Manny sometime soon, we could see him join this team in time for something like the third Doctor Strange film or even an event series on Disney Plus.

Given that the set up exists thanks to the MCU’s past, the great opportunity for him to tie into so many of Phase 4’s projects and the fact that the spooky side of things is going to make its way into the MCU, Man-Thing might be the nexus point of the shared cinematic universe if they give him a chance.

Report: ‘Ms. Marvel’ Has Wrapped Production, Slated for Late 2021 Release

Principal photography on Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Ms. Marvel has wrapped in Thailand, according to a trade report. The series spent more than a month filming on location in Thailand after beginning production in Atlanta. According to the report, episodes 4 and 5 of the 6-part series were filmed overseas; according to rumors and casting information, we could expect to see Kamala bump into the Red Dagger, one of her allies in the comics, during that time.

Iman Vellani is Kamala Khan in First Ms. Marvel Sizzle Reel!

Ms. Marvel was first announced at D23 in August of 2019 and is one of the studio’s most anticipated streaming series. After a long search for their Kamala Khan, Marvel Studios cast Iman Vellani in the role in September of 2020, shortly before beginning production on the series in November. Though we’re not quite sure yet when Ms. Marvel will debut, the trade report reiterates that it is expected to stream before the end of this year. Vellani will be moving into production on The Marvels later this year.

‘THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER’ Headed to New York for Additional Photography

Thor: Love and Thunder has been filming in Australia for a few months now but as production down under gets closer to wrapping up, we’ve learned that some of the cast and crew will relocate to New York City for a week this summer. At the moment we have no details about what the additional photography will cover but hopefully, eagle-eyed residents of the Big Apple will catch a glimpse of the action as they did late last year when Hawkeye was filming there.

Thanos Vs Gorr The God Butcher: Who Would Win? | Fiction Horizon

NYC has served as the central location of the MCU for many big battles but a Thor/Gorr showdown there might make the alien invasions of Avengers and Avengers: Infinity War seem like small potatoes. Of course, it’s possible that Thor and Gorr won’t be duking it out there and that Thor is in NYC to visit one of his fellow Avengers (Thor could always check in with New York’s resident Master of the Mystic Arts) or it could even be the setting for part of Jane Foster’s story. At this point, we’re only able to offer wild and uninformed speculation, which is always the best kind.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters May 6, 2022.

  • Rumor: Shuma-Gorath Headed to the MCU

Rumor: Shuma-Gorath Headed to the MCU

Full Circle Cinema is reporting that insider Daniel Richtman has indicated that Shuma-Gorath, a multiversal demon who has often battled with Doctor Strange and The Ancient One, is primed to make an appearance in the MCU.

Though the report doesn’t indicate what project Shuma-Gorath is expected to appear in, his comic book history makes Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness a logical best guess. Though little is known about the film, the creature, known as the Lord of Chaos, fits well in a story that will follow up on Wanda Maximoff’s Chaos magic and involve some manner of multiversal hijinks.

Production on Marvel Studios ‘BLADE’ Delayed Until Summer 2022

According to a trade report, production on Marvel Studios Mahershala Ali-led Blade reboot has been delayed, with principal photography now expected to begin in July of 2022. Production was originally expected to begin this Fall, but the studio has opted to push it back to allow for more time for Stacy Osei-Kuffour to complete the script.

Mahershala Ali: What to Know About Oscar Moonlight Actor | Time

First announced at SDCC ’19, the Blade reboot has been the center of an awful lot of fan buzz, buzz which intensified when it was left off of this week’s Marvel Studios Phase 4 trailer. Earlier this year, word surfaced that the studio was searching for a teen for a lead role, leading to speculation that the film might center on the relationship between Blade and his daughter, Fallon Grey, a character who was originally intended to debut in the comics before being pulled. At the moment, the search for a director for the film is ongoing.

  • James Gunn Planning to Part Ways with Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy After Completing the Threequel

James Gunn Planning to Part Ways with Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy After Completing the Threequel

When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023, it will have been exactly 6 years since the group of misfits last James Gunn-led outing and a lot has changed between then and now. Gunn was fired by Disney and then rehired but not before signing up to direct DC’s The Suicide Squad, a project which led to him developing and directing a Peacemaker series for HBO Max. Production on the third Guardians film is expected to kick off this Fall and according to Gunn, this is looking like his last rodeo with these characters.

    https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1389402413967282181?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1389402413967282181%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fscreenrant.com%2Fguardians-galaxy-3-movie-james-gunn-final-reaction%2F

Not long ago rumors made the rounds that Gunn would become the shepherd of Marvel Studios Cosmic corner of the universe and Gunn made some noise about potentially developing projects for the Sylvester Stallone-led Ravagers but over the last several years, that noise has died down and Gunn has seemed to lean more into taking a break before deciding what’s next following Guardians 3. His latest statement certainly seems consistent with that and makes sense. Much has changed at Disney and Marvel Studios in the past 3 years much less the last 6. Disney Plus has come into the picture and the studio has started to chart what would seem to be a bit of a different course than the one that led to a Ravagers film. For now, it seems sufficient to let Gunn finish his story with this group of Guardians and let him take some time to determine what’s next, whether here, at DC or something entirely different.

  • Deep Thoughts: One Hypothetical Marvel Studios 2023 Release Calendar

Deep Thoughts: One Hypothetical Marvel Studios 2023 Release Calendar

With Marvel Studios finally revealing release dates for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023), it seemed like a good time to take a stab at how the rest of 2023 might shape up for the studio’s theatrical features and streaming series. We’ve played this guessing game before (here and here) and it’s been hit and miss; however, it’s still a fun game to play and can give us some idea of how things might turn out in a couple of years.

    ***NOTE***

Please read and share responsibly and don’t latch your hopes and dreams onto this. Don’t take it seriously and don’t start marking your calendars. This is one possible option with the only real intention behind it being to see if it could be done well.

One of the bigger surprises of 2021 so far has been the news that Marvel Studios was developing a solo Echo series. Newcomer Alaqua Cox was brought on board to bring Maya Lopez to life in 2021’s Hawkeye and must have made a huge impression as the studio quickly put together a writer’s room and greenlit the series. An Echo series could be an interesting way to reintroduce Kingpin and other Marvel Netflix characters to the MCU and her ties to Daredevil could leave open the opportunity for Matt Murdock’s adventures to continue on here. While this might seem like a pretty quick turnaround, I have a feeling this one is further down the development road than we think.

The Marvel Legends episodes have served as recaps and while they may seem a bit underwhelming to longtime fans of the MCU, they have proven to be effective in catching new viewers up on who everyone is. With that said, We should expect episodes for Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne and, I’d imagine, Cassie Lang, in the weeks leading up to the release of the third Ant-Man film. Given that production on this is set to begin before The Marvels, a lot of folks had this begged for a 2022 release.

I’ve consistently heard it was set for this date and that it was because it needed to come out when it did for storytelling purposes. I wish I had more context on that, but I just don’t and I guess we’ll all have to wait to see what stories needed to be told before we got this one. As it stands, we’re set to get a wild story that we know will include our second time meeting Jonathan Majors‘ Kang and some Quantum Realm shenanigans. As much as I still hope this is the first time we see the Young Avengers team up on screen, the fact that a new writer was brought on board since we first shared that info a couple of years ago makes me wonder if that’s no longer the case.

We are still a month away from the first season of Loki and we are already looking down the road at how they might summarize his adventures in that series before we get to season two in 2023. Who knows what adventures will befall the Trickster in season one…

Kevin Feige has made it clear that not all of the Disney Plus series are destined to have multiple seasons; however, before production on season one of Loki was underway, we knew a season two was part of the plans. Deadline later confirmed that Michael Waldron had inked a deal to work on season two and much like Echo has been fast-tracked, I think another season of Loki is closer than we might think.

Catching up on the adventures of the Guardians will be a necessity for new fans before the threequel lands in May. Some of them will have been on different adventures and one isn’t even from the Prime timeline. An episode or 6 of Marvel Legends might even do us long-timers some good as well, so expect quite a few ahead of May 5th!

By the time we see the Guardians on screen again, it’ll have been exactly 6 years since their last film and they’ll have been used in more films by other directors (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder) than by James Gunn. Gunn has been pretty consistent in saying that this film will wrap up the story of this version of the Guardians and that Rocket’s story will be a big part of the plot. Even though the script for this one has existed for quite a while, very little information about the plot of the film has gotten out though Gunn has debated Warlock’s presence in the film, that Earth-based heroes (like Nova) were on the table and, once upon a time, seemingly teased that it would include some version or another of Quasar. With production starting up this Fall, we might get lucky and catch a couple of leaks and get some idea of where this is headed.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler inked a deal to develop original programming for Disney Plus and chief among those was a series exploring the World of Wakanda. Details on this one are…well, they just don’t exist yet, but given the fact that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is out in 2022, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Coogler and his team keep the tidal wave of momentum going from that film and deliver more Wakandan-based stories to audiences sooner rather than later.

It’s possible that we won’t see Sam Wilson, the MCU’s new Captain America, again before his upcoming and yet still unofficially announced solo film, but then again I know I’m not alone in saying I hope we don’t have to wait 2 years. Cap could show up just about anywhere now from Ms. Marvel to Hawkeye to Spider-Man: No Way Home or even Armor Wars. Let’s hope we get to see more Cap rather than less.

Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson have been reported to be working on the script for this one and I don’t believe for a second that two guys who spent so much time working together on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier together have only just started writing this script. Even though we all just found out about it a couple of weeks ago, I’m willing to bet this is much, much more together than we think and will be underway much sooner than expected.

This one is a pretty big stretch given that there’s no confirmation from Marvel Studios that they’re developing a Nomad series and even the guy who broke the story was unclear of what exactly this was but then again, we are doing hypothetical stuff here…
When last we saw Bucky Barnes at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he had finally moved away, at least personally, from his deeds as the Winter Soldier. With his past finally behind him, it’s possible that we could see Sebastian Stan back in the role as the character carves out a present and a future. Stan gave an incredible performance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and reinvented the character. While we don’t know if Nomad is happening much less if it’s being developed for Stan, I don’t think too many people would frown upon it should it happen and a 6-episode run taking James across the country to deal with someone like the Scourge of the Underworld or, should they not appear in Captain America 4, the Serpent Socitey, would make for some great TV.

Of course, it’s also possible that this is one of the projects that Chris Evans is rumored to be returning for (perhaps something set during the time between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War) or an entirely new character. With that last option on the table, I didn’t want to put a Legends episode on the docket, but if it’s either Bucky or Steve, we’ll certainly get one.

It wasn’t too long ago that I was hopeful that this film would end up in an unused October 2022 slot. According to the Disney Investor Day Fact Sheet, it wasn’t too long ago that Marvel Studios might have held that same hope. At this point, however, Blade won’t make that date and even though fans are already freaking out about why it wasn’t included in yesterday’s Phase 4 trailer, this is definitely still a big priority for the studio. The studio has some time now to work on a script and line up dates with a director and if we’ve learned anything from the COVID pandemic it’s that giving studios more time to prepare can never be a bad thing.

The Young Avengers are coming, of that, there is no doubt. What is entirely unclear is when. My guess: sooner rather than later. You can’t cast a bunch of young actors in roles and then wait 3-5 years between appearances, not without continually recasting at least. Marvel Studios has proven that they’re open to recasting, but at some point, you might like to hang on to some actors for a while, especially when the audience is supposed to be seeing a story in which they grow and develop together as a unit, such as the Young Avengers. My guess is that the actors being brought on board to play these characters will find themselves incredibly busy over the next 5 years (see Tom Holland) so that we don’t end up with some Harry Potter-esque growth spurts and suddenly have 30 year olds playing teens. So out of the pile of projects Marvel Studios has in development, this one could easily be near or at the top. I think it plays better as a Disney Plus series for a lot of reasons, so despite having absolutely no idea what the plan is for this, I’m rooting for the series route.

We know Jon Watts is directing it and we have a fancy logo. We think we know it’s filming under Solve Everything Productions. Other than that, we don’t know anything about Marvel Studios Fantastic Four reboot. It seems like it is certainly a part of the studio’s Phase 4 plans given that it showed up in the Phase 4 trailer, but it has no writer, no cast, no release date and I have yet to hear any rumblings about when or where it’s going to get going. With all that in mind, I think it would make a mint at the box office as a family-centric holiday film so I am crossing my fingers that we’ll get another release date in 2023 and that the First Family will be home for Christmas.

Obviously, the further out we get, the more liberties that have to be taken. We’re at a point where much of what we’re looking at trying to schedule here doesn’t even have known production schedules at the moment. Furthermore, I’ve picked a couple of properties that the studio hasn’t even acknowledged are in development yet so that I could get 5 D+ series in the calendar year. Whether I picked the wrong 2 projects or not isn’t much of a concern because the reality is that the studio has so many properties in development, I’m confident we’ll be able to see 5 series every year should they want to continue producing them at this clip. Let’s all bookmark this one and come back for a laugh in about 18 months.
