  • New ‘The Batman’ Trailer Features More Footage of Riddler and Catwoman

New ‘The Batman’ Trailer Features More Footage of Riddler and Catwoman

It looks like a new poster has finally dropped that offers a closer look at the upcoming March release of The Batman. Matt Reeves‘s new epic will reintroduce the world to a new take on the iconic Caped Crusader. We’ve had some amazing posters in the past, but the latest offers a look at the mystery surrounding Riddler’s true goal and even features more of Zoe Kravitz’s take on Selina Kyle.

This is a more action-packed offering than those before, which focused primarily on the detective aspect. The dynamic tease between Bruce and Selina is also quite intriguing, as it may offer a fresher take that can evolve throughout most films. It’s still crazy to think we’re getting a new interpretation of the character that leans more into the gothic side that has been heavily used throughout comics and even the animated projects. We cannot wait to see it once it releases in March and kicks off a new year for superhero offerings.

‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Delayed by At Least Half a Year Due to COVID

Sadly, it looks like the ongoing pandemic has caught another victim, as producer Naoki Yoshida has announced on Twitter that Final Fantasy XVI is facing delays by at least a half year due to COVID-19. The entire production is facing quite a challenge, which had allowed them to tweak quite a few important elements of the core game. Still, this means that we won’t get any updates on the game until Spring of 2021.

    https://twitter.com/finalfantasyxvi/status/1475335618905669635

We only got the initial trailer some time ago with our first real details back in October of 2020. So, we haven’t had any details for almost a year, which is why this update may be a bit of a dark surprise for some given how long we’ve already waited. It also means that other productions might be affected in similar ways, as we’re still waiting for news on the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake as well.

To be fair, that game hasn’t been given a trailer or official announcement which means it isn’t technically getting a “delay” but the lack of any updates has been a bit disheartening. Still, the health of the teams behind these games is important and here’s hoping they aren’t further affected by the ongoing pandemic.

  • ‘Morbius’ Eyeing a Longer Runtime Than ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’

‘Morbius’ Eyeing a Longer Runtime Than ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’

Sony is currently on a roll after the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home. They aren’t taking a break though, as their Marvel expansion is about to release in January with the Jared Leto-led project Morbius. He’ll tackle the role of the Living Vampire and it seems that the film might be eyeing the usual length of other films, as the website of Cinemark has included its runtime at around one hour and 48 minutes. It’s longer than the previously released Venom sequel, which was quite a surprisingly short entry as other superhero films continue to increase their runtimes.

No one expects an Avengers: Endgame runtime from a film about a man turning into a vampire, but there’s quite a bit of lore and character work that can pad it out. We’ll see how the film shapes, as we near its release in the new year, as most discussions focus on the confusing connection it has to Spider-Man. Each trailer adds more and more elements from across the multiverse, which adds some uncertainty if this is now part of Tom Holland‘s MCU run, or potentially a separate project.

No Way Home confirmed Venom isn’t part of that universe due to the post-credit sequence. So, him pretending to be the symbiote would indicate he’s from that same universe. So, the inclusion of Michael Keaton‘s Vulture adds to the confusion. Here’s hoping that the next trailer might offer a clearer picture and they were pulling our leg to add some discussion for the multiversal storyline that just recently passed the $1 billion mark.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings to $1 Billion Worldwide

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings to $1 Billion Worldwide

It has finally come, just as we discussed it yesterday, Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially joined the $1 billion club. With $467.3M domestically and $587.1M internationally, the film stands at a strong $1.05B over the Christmas weekend. While it did face a harsh drop, we’re in a very different situation given the effect the holidays have every year and it ties with Avengers: Infinity War for the spot of second-fastest to pass that milestone.

This milestone is quite impressive, as it goes against all odds given the omicron variant on the horizon. It’s also the first film to manage this in around two years, which hasn’t been kind to many films’ success at the box office when compared to the usual releases. Its drop can also be attributed to the fact it faced not one, but three new releases this weekend. At this point it has doubled Shang-Chi‘s already fantastic $224M.

Spider-Man wasn’t the only one to web up quite a bit this weekend, as Sing 2 managed to take the second spot at the domestic box office with $23.7M while The Matrix Resurrections landed in third with a mellow $14M. To be fair, the latter is also available on HBO Max, which may have become the main way of watching it for some audiences. Plus, the sequel to the 2016 animated film targeted parents with younger kids, who are the current audience group most uncertain about returning to theaters. Sadly, The King’s Man was struggling with a $10M opening, which only barely beat out American Underdog.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Webs Up the Title of Highest Grossing Film of 2021

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Webs Up the Title of Highest Grossing Film of 2021

The fabled Holiday weekend has done its thing, as Spider-Man: No Way Home will pass $1 billion over the weekend. As such, it has now become the highest-grossing film of 2021. The title was held by The Battle of Lake Changjin, which was a strong Chinese release with $904 million. It earned an amazing $19.7M on Christmas Eve and stands at a strong $405.5M domestically. With that, it has passed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle to become their highest-grossing film in the domestic market. As of now, the film has garnered $900M worldwide and will likely pass the mark either tonight over Christmas Day or the latest on Sunday.

If the film passes the $1 billion over Christmas Day, it’ll tie with Avengers: Infinity War to reach that milestone. Avengers: Endgame still has that title with five days. It’ll be the first to pass the billion mark since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019. What makes this film stand out is that it’ll pass this benchmark without a Chinese release, as it’s only the fifth film to manage the benchmark, which includes The Dark Knight, Joker, PIrates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and Alice in Wonderland. At this rate, it’ll inch closer to the releases like Frozen with $1.45B, or even Avengers: Infinity War with $2.048B. Developments in the new year will offer a clearer picture.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ Adds ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Li Cree as Storyboard Artist

‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ Adds ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Li Cree as Storyboard Artist

We’ve been quite excited to see what the future has in store for Marvel Studios’ new ventures, especially with their drive to expand into animation. What If…? was merely a window into the potential we can expect, but with the announcement of an X-Men: The Animated Series revival and Marvel Zombies project, there’s a lot of potentials. A personal highlight is the prequel series Spider-Man: Freshman Year that’ll explore Peter Parker’s time before he joined Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War.

It looks like the team is continuing to expand, as Star Trek: Lower Decks and My Adventures with Superman‘s Li Cree has announced they’ve joined the project on Twitter. The resumé also includes Port by the Sea, Critical Role: Vox Machina, and she was even part of the Nickelodeon Artist Program working on Rugrats. Her announcement came with a new visual to highlight the new project on Twitter:

The animated sequel has garnered a talented team of artists, such as Harley Quinn‘s Liza Singer alongside Jeff Trammel as executive producer. She’s also has worked on various projects including Disenchantment, DC Super Hero Girls, and more. It’ll be exciting to see how they bring the visual style to life and explore Peter’s time as a small-time hero while balancing his school life.

  • New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Merchandise Features All Three Spider-Men

New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Merchandise Features All Three Spider-Men

It looks like Sony and Marvel Studios have reached the limit to keeping all the secrets from Spider-Man: No Way Home. As it seems that concept art has found its way online featuring all three “Spider-Men” that appear in the film in their iconic costumes. It features Tom Holland front-and-center with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining in the fray. The designs are great and are definitely something for collectors that were excited to see all three together. Each design has a different tribute and even includes the “Spider-Men” name. The merch is shared by @BRMarvelNews.

There are some great details in here, especially with one playing tribute to Doctor Strange’s magical circle. We even get the scaffolding from the film’s final battle between the Spider-Men and villains from across the multiverse. It’ll be interesting to see if Garfield and Maguire might get their own unique character posters, but neither did Reptile or Sandman. So, we’ll see if we get any additional material besides the tie-in merchandise. Here’s hoping they get a bit more attention to highlight their inclusion as the film continues to dominate the international box office.

  • ‘Hawkeye’ Director Rhys Thomas Plays Coy on a Potential Season 2

‘Hawkeye’ Director Rhys Thomas Plays Coy on a Potential Season 2

It caught everyone’s eye when Hawkeye‘s final episode was called a “season finale“. We all expected an announcement in the series’ post-credit sequence but we were surprised by the fully filmed musical number from the Rogers musical. While a hilarious addition on the same level as the “patience” post-credit from Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were still left with some questions. In an interview with Collider, director Rhys Thomas was asked about a potential second season, where he only stated that:

I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy. Again, the show coming out, you never know how it’s going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it’s been great to see Hailee’s character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again.

    Rhys Thomas

So, it looks like they’re still sticking to that remaining a secret for now, but it’s interesting that Thomas didn’t give a clear “no” when discussing it. We might get an announcement in the near future, as we still anticipate what the future of Disney+ has in store for us. We’ll see what series we can expect in 2022 and when. Here’s hoping the wait isn’t too long until we find out.

  • ‘Hawkeye’s Vincent D’Onofrio Pitched His ‘Family Business’ Inspired Outfit

‘Hawkeye’s Vincent D’Onofrio Pitched His ‘Family Business’ Inspired Outfit

It’s been a busy week for Vincent D’Onforio, as he was interviewed by one outlet after another about that Hawkeye finale. He offered some insight into how it connected to the original Netflix Daredevil series and his future with the franchise. Well, ComicBook.com’s Adam Barnhardt asked the true hard-hitting question about his new wardrobe.

While we get a brief shot of the classic white-black suit he wore in Daredevil‘s third season, the rest of the episode features a very different take on the iconic NYC Kingpin. He is wearing a red-white Hawaiian shirt ripped straight out of the Spider-Man: Family Business storyline. It seems that D’Onofrio has a soft spot for the design, as he reveals it was an idea he “brought to the table.” You can check out the video here:

    https://twitter.com/adambarnhardt/status/1474068733597519883

It’s great to see how much love D’Onofrio has for the role and even bringing this different take on his usual fashion sense to life. It worked incredibly well, even if the hat was an adorable addition. Here’s hoping we get a lot more of his character in the future with some new outfits to mix it up.

  • ‘Hawkeye’s Vincent D’Onofrio Talks Kingpin’s Apparent Fate in the Finale

‘Hawkeye’s Vincent D’Onofrio Talks Kingpin’s Apparent Fate in the Finale

Hawkeye’s finale had shocked many, as it finally introduced Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin only to have Echo shoot him in the final moments of the episode. Of course, many eagle-eyed fans of the character have noticed that he gets away with it, especially how much the show teased that he’s quite a bit stronger than he was in Daredevil. Luckily, the actor offered a comment on his apparent “death” and what it meant for him.

I can comment personally. I can’t comment about any fact because they just don’t tell me. So, it made me hope that it would continue and it still makes me feel that way. I mean in my mind, she definitely shot him. And, I walked away from Daredevil, at first I thought, “Maybe he’ll come back somehow.” And then very quickly after that, I thought I was walking away for good. So I had always hoped because of the fans wanting him back and everybody, I’d hope that I would come back. So I feel the same way now.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

They also got a chance to talk about the Echo spinoff that was teased during Disney+ Day. While we know very little about that project, it does seem like it’ll closely tie into these events and it seems like a fitting choice for Wilson Fisk to return as its primary antagonist. It would seem that D’Onofrio is also up to exploring their relationship more.

I think it would be great. I remember the comic run. It was one of my favorites, the father-daughter relationship between Maya and him, and I would love the opportunity to do that.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

It seems likely the character got away from the shot, as either Echo ended up missing due to her strong feelings towards the surrogate father, or the man survived a bullet shot as if it was a scratch. Either way, it doesn’t seem likely that Marvel Studios would introduce such an essentially comic character only to never bring them up again. Perhaps we’re about to enter a new era of Fisk’s control over NYC.
