First Look at Azie Tesfai as Guardian on ‘Supergirl’ Set

There’s a massive change coming to the Arrowverse. A while back, it got announced that CW would be ending multiple series within its superhero slate, including shows like Supergirl and Black Lightning. After establishing their equivalent to the Justice League, it begs the question of how that roster will be affected. The futures of Kara Zor-El and Jefferson Pierce up in the air, we might see quite a few new faces take over their respective seats. The final season of Supergirl may offer a glimpse at a future member.

A few seasons back, we got our first look at Jimmy Olsen as The Guardian, the newest vigilante to hit National City. Following Jimmy’s Departure from Cat Co. and Mehcad Brooks‘s exit from the show, Azie Tesfai took over his role as his sister, Kelly Olsen. Co-showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner confirmed that Kelly would be picking up the mantle of “Guardian” in the upcoming season. Now, we got our first look at her costume courtesy of @canadagraphs.

Supergirl‘s sixth season is currently airing on the CW Network and is currently in its final season. The series is led by Melissa Benoist along with Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie Mcgrath, Nicole Maines, and Jesse Rath. It is uncertain if any characters from this show or Melissa Benoist‘s Supergirl will appear on other shows in the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see how the season ends and teases the future for Kara Zor-El and her wide cast.

  • Mo Amer Joins DC’s ‘Black Adam’

Mo Amer Joins DC’s ‘Black Adam’

Production on Black Adam kicked off just a few days ago, with the project set to feature The Rock as the titular anti-hero Teth-Adam. While details on the project are scarce, we know the film will see Black Adam go up against the likes of the JSA and liberate Kahndaq and its people from enslavement. The project has been in the works for some time now, with the Rock initially being cast as Black adam all the way back in 2007, for what was supposed to be the original Shazam! film. Recently the project has added actors James Cusati-Moyer and Bohdi Sabongui in mystery roles, and they don’t seem to be the last additions.

Confirmed by Deadline, Stand-Up Comedian Mo Amer has joined the cast of the upcoming anti-hero epic in an undisclosed role. Amer is most known for his work on the Hulu original series Ramy, as well as a stand-up special on Netflix titled Mo Amer: The Vagabond. While the extent of Amer’s role is also being kept under wraps, it’s not hard to imagine he’ll do a good job of stealing scenes.

Black Adam is currently set to release on July 29th, 2022, and will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Starring alongside Johnson will be Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan, Quintessa Swindell, Noah Centineo, and Sarah Shahi.

  • ‘American Horror Stories’ Returning to Fan Favorite Location

‘American Horror Stories’ Returning to Fan Favorite Location

Last year, Ryan Murphy shared that FX had given the green lit to an anthology spin-off of the popular horror series American Horror Story. The series is set to include 16-one hour episodes that share solo storylines contained to that episode. Further details given by Murphy confirmed that the series would dive into “Horror, myths, legends, and lore” as well as the return of familiar faces from AHS past. While no details on casting or any of the episode themes have been shared yet, some recent activity at a familiar setting from AHS past may lead to some answers.

Production on the series seems to be kicking off with crew setting up around Rosenheim mansion and even putting the black fence that surrounded the house in season one back up. It’s unclear what exactly we’re going to see happening at the mansion but considering its long history, we could see an episode surrounding its previous owners. Considering that AHS season 10 is currently filming, it’s possible we could see multiple stars from that season return such as Evan Peters as Tate Langdon, or even Frances Conroy as Moira O’Hara in what could be flashback episodes diving deeper into their characters. Maybe we could even see the return of Sarah Paulson’s Billie Dean Howard, as she returns to the murder house for a special, sorta like her brief appearance in Hotel where the ghost of serial killers’ past scared her away.

American Horror Stories currently has no set release date and has yet to officially add anyone to its cast but as production ramps up, casting will follow. In the meantime production of AHS season ten titled Double Feature has begun and will feature two separate and smaller storylines. The cast for the upcoming season is star-studded with the highly anticipated returns of Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson alongside Frances Conroy, Macaulay Culkin, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourde, Adina Porter, and Angelica Ross.

  • First Look at Kaci Walfall as ‘Naomi’

First Look at Kaci Walfall as ‘Naomi’

Late last year it was announced that the CW had green-lit a new series centered around the fairly new DC Comics character Naomi. Alongside its announcement was the news that Ava Duvernay was behind the new super series and that it would be produced by her Array Production company. From there, the series moved fairly quickly with its casting process, adding actress Kaci Walfall as the titular character of Naomi.

Duvernay has been quite active on Instagram lately documenting production on the pilot episode of the series, and took the time to offer a BTS as Walfall as Naomi. For those not familiar with the character, she made her comics debut in 2019’s Naomi by Brian Michael Bendis. She hails from an alternate earth, sent by her parents to save her from a villain known as Zumbado. She discovers she harbors powerful energy abilities and sets out to uncover the truth about where she’s really from and just how powerful she really is.

Naomi will be written by Ava Duvernay and Jill Blankenship with both also serving as executive producers on the series. For those looking to learn more about Naomi, some proper reading material would include Naomi #1-6, Young Justice #10-20, and the current run on Justice League by Brian Michael Bendis.

  • More ‘Shang-Chi’ Marvel Legends Leaks Confirm Family Ties

More ‘Shang-Chi’ Marvel Legends Leaks Confirm Family Ties

Over the past few days we’ve had multiple leaks surrounding merchandise from the upcoming Marvel Studios film Shang-Chi and The legend of The Ten Rings. Amongst those leaks were closer looks at Legos, Funko Pops! and quite recently the upcoming Marvel Legends figures based on characters within the film, offering our best looks yet at Shang-Chi and Wenwu, aka The Mandarin from the upcoming film. We’ve now got a closer look at the final two figures from the film in the upcoming wave, that of Xialang and the mysterious Death Dealer.

Our first close look at Xialang offers more details on her ties to the titular hero, revealing that she is indeed the estranged sister of the martial artist and another child of the Mandarin. When Shang-Chi suddenly shows up in her life, Xialang, played by Meng’er Zhang, must choose between the solitary life she’s created for herself or join her brother in the fight against the Ten Rings.

The next description gives less detail on the character but sets him up to be quite the worthy adversary for Shang-Chi in his fight against the Ten Rings group. Not much is known about the Death Dealer but if he lives up to his name he would definitely not be someone to take lightly.

Death Dealer is one of the most formidable opponents Shang-Chi has ever faced

Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings is currently set to be released on September 3rd, 2021 and will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The film stars Simu Liu as the titular hero alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Fala Chen, Ronny Chieng, Michelle Yeoh, and Florian Munteanu.

  • REPORT: Sinestro to Appear in HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’

REPORT: Sinestro to Appear in HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’

The upcoming HBO Max’s Green Lantern will span multiple decades, as we follow Lanterns from past and present. The film will explore the stories of Alan Scott, Guy Gardener, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Bree Jarta, who is an original character made for the series. It is set to start production next week. So, the timing of this reveal is quite interesting, as Illuminerdi has learned that Sinestro will appear in the upcoming series. Yes, that Thaal Sinestro will have a role of some kind. The warrior of will, who would eventually turn into an agent of fear.

The character is described to be “akin to a warrior monk.” It’s a fitting description for the character, who was previously played by Mark Strong in Ryan ReynoldsGreen Lantern film. They are looking to cast someone in their 40s to play the “greatest of all the Green Lanterns,” who will serve as a “strategic commander.” He will be a series regular with his darker side being teased prominently. So, we might see the Sinestro Corps make an appearance at some point in the HBO Max series.

Green Lantern currently has no release date but is currently set to release exclusively on HBO Max. The series is set to be written by Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith and produced by Greg Berlanti. The inclusion of Sinestro may hint at future appearances by other major characters like Hal Jordan or John Stewart. It’ll be interesting to see how the series ties together the different decades in the Green Lantern’s history once it releases on the Warner Bros. streaming platform.

Moyer’s previous credits include an array of Broadway work on plays such as Six Degrees of Separation and Slave Play, where played Dustin, a role that scored him a Tony nomination. More of Moyer’s portfolio consist of roles on Inventing AnnaProdigal SonRed Oaks, and The Path

  • Warner Bros. No Longer Developing Ava Duvernay’s ‘New Gods’

Warner Bros. No Longer Developing Ava Duvernay’s ‘New Gods’

Back in 2017, it was announced that development had begun on a film centered around the New Gods, a popular comic created by Jack Kirby, it’s now been confirmed via the Hollywood Reporter that the film is indeed not moving forward at this time. This move also includes the shelving of James Wan‘s Aquaman spin-off, The Trench. It seems that DC wants to refocus their Warner Bros had this to say about the recent decisions:

As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan, and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.

There had been little to no word on either project for quite some time. We’d heard that Tom King joined Duvernay on the project. He was co-writing it, but it went silent shortly after. The article states that Warner Bros couldn’t find a place to put the film on its release slate. It seems that Darkseid’s recent appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League is also one of the reasons for this decision, as the studio wanted space between the two projects. It’s a shame they aren’t moving forward and hopefully, it could see the light of day in the near future once their figure out their future DC slate.

‘Naomi’ Adds Barry Watson and More to Expanding Cast

The upcoming CW drama focused on the recently introduced DC character, Naomi, is currently being developed for the CW Network. The show will feature Kaci Walfall in the title role, and the series has now added multiple more to its cast. The production has added Barry Watson as Greg, Naomi’s adoptive father. He gets described as a retired veteran and Mouzam Makkar as her adoptive mother. Amongst more additions includes Mary-Charles Jones, Aidan Gemme, and Daniel Puig. The series has also set Amanda Marsalis to direct and co-executive produce the pilot episode of the series.

For those who aren’t close to the Naomi comics, her adoptive father Greg is from the planet Raan. In that storyline, Thanagar and Raan were in the midst of a war in which Dee, played by Alexander Wraith in the upcoming series, fled the war. Greg came to Earth to find Dee, a Thanagarian but ended up staying after meeting his now-wife. It’s unclear if the series will make him completely human or just part of the military as a cover.

Other additions to the cast include Mary-Charles Jones as Annabelle, Naomi’s best friend, who is incredibly loyal and will tell her the hard truths. Aidan Gemme will play Jacob, described as “sweet, shy and nerdy,” as well as Annabelle’s longtime boyfriend. Finally, Daniel Puig will play Nathan, a high school jock who also happens to be Naomi’s Ex. Naomi currently has no release date.
