    ‘The Thing about Pam’s Jenny Klein to Showrun New ‘Power Rangers’ Series for Netflix

    It looks like eOne’s Power Rangers reboot over at Netflix is finally picking up some speed. For quite some time now, we’ve learned that Jonathan Entwistle has been supervising a Power Rangers universe, but we never got any concrete information on where the project may or may not be heading. Now that all changed, as they’ve added their first member to the team. The Thing About Pam‘s Jenny Klein has inked a deal with Entertainment One and will act as showrunner on the Power Rangers series heading to Netflix, where she’ll work with Entwistle on the series. eOne’s EVP, Gabe Marano, shared the following statement:

    Building this partnership with Jenny, whose talent and passion transcends genres, is an exciting moment for us. We believe that her distinctive vision makes her the perfect fit to help us develop Hasbro’s deep library of IP, as well as original projects, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.

    There are still no details on what exactly the upcoming new take on the franchise will offer. Power Rangers is still currently airing with the Dino Fury series, which marks the 29th season since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired. There is likely still going to be a continuation as with Klein only joining now, they might not start production on a new series until 2023. Still, it’s exciting to finally get an update and it does seem like they are picking up the pace for the new Netflix universe based on the iconic series.

    ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Passes $400M at the Domestic Box Office

    While Top Gun Maverick has managed to pass the $400M domestic as the legacy title is pulling in some amazing numbers worldwide, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wasn’t too far behind. The film faced a harsh drop in its second weekend, which isn’t too uncommon with frontloaded crowd-pleasers but has showcased its horror roots by staying quite consistent throughout the rest of its run. As of now, the film has pulled in $935M worldwide and now officially stands at $400.3M domestically.

    There was some concern the film wouldn’t even hit the $900M mark but it has left that behind quite a bit. The film will release on Disney+ on June 22nd, which will still give it some time to potentially scratch the $940M mark. As per usual, the international cum is the strongest for the Marvel Studios entry and while Top Gun has taken a lot of accolades for its powerful jet-fueled wings, the Marvel project proves that the market is still ready for a variety of films to pull in massive box office numbers.

    Maverick also is sharing a similar trend that we saw with Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens back in the day. After a long pause at the box office, the films have managed to make quite a splash domestically and in international markets. There’s a different kind of energy to these projects that complement Marvel Studios’ approach to genre-mixing giving it a unique standing and longevity in the market. We might see the box office evolve in interesting ways moving forward.

    Tom Hardy Teases ‘Venom 3’ With A Tease of a “Last Dance”

    If there’s a superhero franchise from the last two decades that’s managed to truly surpass expectations, it’s Venom. Many fans assumed the goofy, gritty Spider-Man spin-off would be dead on arrival, but instead, the duology has become a massive success with a third entry on the way. Tom Hardy, the charismatic star behind both Eddie Brock and his symbiote partner Venom, recently took to Instagram to share that he is now in possession of the threequel’s script.

    Written by Kelly Marcel, based on a story by Marcel and Hardy himself, the new film does not have an officially revealed title. The image on social media features a little doodle of Venom in the title’s place.

    On the actor’s Instagram story, he shared the script cover with an added sticker from Michael Jordan‘s popular Last Dance documentary. It’s a curious inclusion, and while there is still very little known about the plot of Venom 3, it would indicate the film may be the character’s final ride. It would be a surprising decision for Hardy and the folks at Sony to make, should this be the case. Venom is currently one of their biggest cash cows, and fans have been clamoring to see the alien antihero interact with more characters from the larger Marvel Universe. Most specifically, of course, Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man, who has been hinted to be on a collision course with Hardy‘s Venom for some time.

    A few false-alarm post-credits scenes seemed to put the iconic arch-enemies on a oath toward each other, until more tinkering with the multiverse prevented it from happening. However, there is currently a bit of symbiote goo left in the mainline MCU, and it’s yet to be revealed how that will factor into the futures of Venom or Spider-Man.

    ‘Astro Boy’ Reboot in Development by ‘Miraculous’ Creator

    It looks like Astro Boy, the iconic anime series from 1963, is once again making its return. Variety has just unveiled that Tomas Astruc, who created the popular animated series Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, is working on the animated adaptation. Method Animation, who worked on that series as well as The Little Prince, will work on the new series together with Shibuya Productions.

    The series was adapted from the original manga by Osamu Tezuka, which has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and was the franchise to set the path to modern Japanese anime. The simple concept of a child-like robot also became an iconic element of the industry, which would eventually also spark similar ideas such as Megaman. The following statement was shared on its international production.

    Tezuka’s original comics were far advanced in delivering a powerful message to readers worldwide. These fantastic stories of the little boy who flies are all about strong values that still resonate today for a global audience.

    It seems that this adaptation is seemingly going to be a timeless adaptation. Astruc will direct 52 half-hour episodes for the series which will be CGI-3D. So, we can expect a style quite similar to Miraculous. Still, it’s great to see the classic anime character getting another adaptation of this childhood classic.

    • Dan Snyder is going to be Dan Snyder. It appears he has declined to appear before Congress to testify about workplace misconduct. Among several reasons that his lawyers listed, Snyder argues that he has pressing Commanders business to attend to that day, contradicting previous reports that he is not involved in the day-to-day dealings of the team. Presumably, he will receive a subpoena that will compel him to appear.

    RUMOR: ‘Tokyo Vice’ Director May Have Joined Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series

    We’ve been slowly getting a good look behind the scenes at who is working on the upcoming live-action One Piece series. Just recently, the agency United Agents gave away that Doctor Who director Emma Sullivan was working on the production. Earlier in April we also learned that Lost in Space‘s Tim Southam has joined the production as Daredevil‘s Marc Jobst wrapped work on the first two episodes of the series. Now, it may look like one more has been uncovered.

    First shared by @OnePieceNxBr on Twitter, an agency site for hair and make-up artist Amanda Ross McDonald reveals she is actively working on Project Panda, the name of One Piece‘s production. What sticks out is that alongside the previous three directors, they also confirm one more is part of the team. The list reveals that Josef Kubota Wladyka may be directing episodes of the series spearheaded by Steven Maeda and Matt Owens.

    Wlydka has been building up quite the filmography, as he not only worked on quite a few episodes of Netflix’s iconic Narcos and Narcos: Mexico series, but also recently worked on HBO Max’s break-out hit Tokyo Vice. He’s also worked on Fear the Walking Dead and The Terror. So, he has quite a varied background that’ll definitely come in handy

    ‘Kingdom Hearts 4’ Will Feature Disney Worlds

    Here’s a rather curious surprise, as Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind Kingdom Hearts, has offered some insight into what the upcoming fourth entry has to offer. We were teased about the new world known as Quadratum some time ago, but it seemingly hinted at a very different game moving forward. Yet, it turns out that those worried we won’t get a chance to visit Disney Worlds.

    In an interview with Game Informer, he reflected on his time with the franchise and also discusses some minor aspects of what the future has to offer. In it, he also confirms that we’ll definitely be visiting Disney worlds yet wouldn’t elaborate on which ones.

    With regards to Kingdom Hearts IV, players are definitely going to see a few Disney worlds in there. I just want to mention that they don’t need to worry so much about this aspect of the game. It might feel slightly different from previous Kingdom Hearts titles, but once players have had a chance to play the game, I’m sure they’ll be relieved to find that it is definitely a Kingdom Hearts title. It’s the game series that they’ve come to know and love.

    Of course, there’s been a lot of speculation that one of the “Disney” worlds they’ll visit might turn out to be from Star Wars. The new art style also seemingly hints at a possible Marvel inclusion, as the game has seemingly moved away from its more cartoon-inspired roots in its graphics. Well, it turns out that also played a key factor as they approached the project.

    As far as the graphic qualities … since with each new title, the specs have been really increasing and there’s so much more we can do in terms of graphics, it kind of limits the number of worlds that we can create in a sense. At this time we’re considering how to approach that, but there will be Disney worlds in Kingdom Hearts IV.

    They may have made some decisions based on the graphical challenges, as the more realistic the designs get, the more difficult it becomes to adapt some franchises to keep the design consistent. It’s a shame they didn’t keep a more stylized look, but the upcoming

    ‘The Equalizer 3’ Adds Denzel Washington’s ‘Man On Fire’ Co-Star Dakota Fanning

    Denzel Washington has proven that you’re never too old to lead your own action franchise, as he’s been busy preparing for the third entry of The Equalizer series. Now, he has added an old co-star, as Dakota Fanning has joined the production according to a new report by Deadline. She’s joining a franchise where both previous entries managed to pull in over $190M at the worldwide box office.

    Richard Wenk wrote the script for the third entry which Antoine Fuqua will direct. It’ll be the first time that Washington gets a chance to work with Fanning again since Man On Fire almost 20 ago. The third entry is eyeing a release on September 1st, 2023, and will likely start production soon.

    Fanning has been busy on The First Lady, a Showtime series, starring alongside Michelle Pfeiffer. There’s also the adaptation of Ripley where she worked alongside Andrew Scott and even returned to the second season of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness as Sarah Howard. She’s been quite busy with film and TV projects alike, and it seems she’s looking to add a fun action film to the mix.

    Josh Andrés Rivera Joins ‘The Hunger Games’ Prequel

    The upcoming Hunger Games prequel film has been quite busy with casting. We got the big casting of Rachel Zegler in the leading role of Lucy Gray Baird. She’s the songbird in the title of the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Tom Blyth has also been cast in the title role of Coriolanus Snow, who would eventually grow into the antagonist of the original Hunger Games. Now, they’ve added an additional member.

    Josh Andrés Rivera has joined the cast in the role of Sejanus Plinth. It marks a reunion for the actor who also appeared in West Side Story alongside Zegler. He’s taking on the role of Plinth, who is a close friend to Snow and also the mentor for the tribute from District 2, who will be played by Jerome Lance.

    The film has been busy casting as they are preparing to start produciton. Just recently, they added five new members to the cast which includes the previously mentioned Lance alongside Know Gibson, Aamar Husain, Ashley Liao, and Mackenzie Lansing. The cast is coming together and it’s going to be exciting to see how they welcome viewers back to the franchise with Snow’s younger years.

    Paul Reiser Joins ‘The Boys’ as Stan Lee Parody

    The Boys isn’t done surprising fans with major guest stars.

    It was revealed today that veteran actor Paul Reiser has joined the series’ cast as “The Legend,” a parody of real-life icon Stan “The Man” Lee. The character originates from the Garth Ennis comic books, where he is a former employee of Vought-American’s Victory Comics who is now living underneath a comic book store. “The Legend” was responsible for writing many of the stories that made Supes famous, and as a result, possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of Vought’s superhuman roster. This proves to be helpful when he later becomes an unofficial member of The Boys.

    Viewers won’t have to wait long to see Reiser take over the role. Amazon teased yesterday that the character would appear in this week’s episode of the hit series, titled ‘The Last Time To Look On This World Of Lies.’ It’s currently unknown if the former Mad About You star will play a version of “The Legend” recognizable from the comics, or if his live-action take will be something new for streaming audiences. Amazon’s press release for the announcement does refer to “The Legend” as “an iconic fan-favorite character from the original comic book series”, so perhaps there is hope that this iteration will stay true to his graphic origins. Either way, the role marks another big step in Reiser‘s recent return to the spotlight. The actor is also currently starring as Dr. Sam Owens on Netflix’s smash hit Stranger Things.

    The Boys Season 3 is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
